4 Signs You’re Taking Your Monitoring Too Far

If you’re like most employers, you probably got the employee tracking app last year when everyone started working from home. We get it, you were in a completely new place, your entire team was suddenly working remotely, and it wasn’t easy managing everyone’s time and making sure people are staying productive.

And employee tracking software is amazing! It helps quantify and improve productivity, keeps you in the loop on your team’s usual activities, etc.

However, there are some lines you shouldn’t cross when using an employee tracking app.

Let’s see what they are.

Tracking Employees Without Their Knowledge

Monitoring employees’ computers in secret is only okay if you’re suspecting malpractice and you need to catch the perpetrator in the act. In most countries, this is the only time you’re allowed by law to monitor your team’s activities without their knowledge or permission.

However, if you’re using the software so you could improve your business, you should give them a heads up. Depending on where you’re located, you might need to tell your employees a few weeks in advance, or even have them sign consent forms and create policies that exhaustively explain everything about your monitoring practices.

What can happen if you don’t do this? Well, your employees will find out at some point, leaving you open to lawsuits. Not only that, but you can expect that your workers will be outraged, potentially quitting your business and giving it a bad reputation.

Using the Tracking Software Outside of Working Hours

Depending on how you set up your employee tracking app, it might be monitoring your employees since they turn on their work computer until they turn it off. Or, they need to clock in and out. If you’re using the second option, you can move to our next tip. If you belong to the first group, keep reading.

There’s no scenario in which it is good to collect employees’ private data, even if they’re doing private things on their work computers. So, if you have an option to make the tracker active only during specific hours – use it. It will automatically start at 9 AM and turn off at 5 o’clock. This way, you’ll avoid potentially catching their Facebook newsfeed, private emails, or whatever else they decide to check after hours.

The same goes for tracking during breaks – your employees should have an option to pause the tracking when they go on a break.

Collecting Private Data

As we said, collecting private data isn’t okay in any case. But, how can you prevent this if your employee decides to scroll through social media or pay some bills during working hours? Well, it depends on the employee tracking app you’re using.

Ideally, you should have the option to either turn off tracking or turn off screenshots (if this feature is on in other cases) when your employees are browsing through the aforementioned websites. You’ll still probably want to know that they’ve spent some time on social media, but you don’t need to see what they were doing there.

Not Using the Data for Improvement

Collecting the data about employees’ everyday activities just for the sake of monitoring doesn’t make much sense. It’s a waste of time, money, and other resources. The reason why you implemented such software should be connected to your business goals, or to the improvement paths you’re creating for your teams or individuals.

Don’t go around “catching” employees who slack off for short time periods. Track their behavior on a weekly or monthly level, and see how that “slacking” affects their overall workload or deliverables. If they’re doing a good job – you don’t have to give them a lecture on how they use their time.

On the other hand, if you do see that such behaviour affects your worker’s performance – talk to them. Tell them that you’ve been reviewing their data, and how it doesn’t look so good. Work with them to find the cause of this issue, as well as the potential solutions.

Wrapping Up

It’s not that hard to use employee tracking software “the right way”. Essentially, all you have to do is avoid being a snooping micromanager and you should be good to go.

Important Details Every Card Gamer Should Know By Heart

Card games are almost as old as humanity itself. With so many variations and options, it can be difficult to choose a game to play and impress your playmates. Whether your game of choice is Blackjack, Uno, or Dungeons and Dragons the devil is in the details! If you want to look like a pro and impress on your next game night, here are some quick details to help you take your game to the next level!

Take Out Your Cards

To start things off, let’s talk about the essentials: the deck. If you’re serious about your card games, you need to be serious about your deck. A deck of cards is like an extension of the player.  It should look professional, a little-used, and well kept. If you want to get serious about your card gaming, or if you want to impress your friends, think about investing in the real deal! Knock off and cheap playing cards are cute when you’re a beginner, but every professional player deserves their own original deck. If you don’t like the classic look, try a more personalized or stylized look that represents you best!

The Deck – Keep It in Check!

Once you’ve got the right deck, you need to turn your attention to how you can take care of it. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to play and realizing that your cards are damaged or dog-eared. To avoid any embarrassing situations, think about prioritizing the proper storage for your deck. Ditch the rubber bands, backpacks, and jacket pockets, and opt for an airtight tin, box, or container. Slightly used cards make you look like a pro, but you don’t want them looking distressed!

Set the Stage – The Playmat!

If you’re a player of more elaborate card games, you’ll know what a playmat is. For those who don’t, a playmat is an accessory that players can use to play on and separate their cards and dice. For some, it can be as simple as a sheet of paper with some hand-drawn outlines. Which is fine and gets the job done, but where’s the fun in that? For more passionate players, the folks behind Your Playmat suggest having a playmat that’s a little more stylish, personal, and professional. With so many styles out there, you can find or create the perfect playmat to accommodate your game and your aesthetic. The right playmat can start your game off right!

The Players – Get the Gang Together

The second most important thing about card games, besides the deck, is the players. Sure, playing by yourself is great but card games were made to be played with friends or family. So find your crowd and get to playing! If you can’t find any gaming buddies in person or if you’re really passionate about a particular game, consider looking online. There are hundreds of online versions of your favorite card games to play from home. Not only that but you can find forums and chatrooms to connect with other players, learn about lore, and share tactics with.

Know Your Craft

The only thing more impressive than a person who knows their way around a card game is a person who knows their way around many card games. Nobody likes a spoilsport or a one-trick pony, so knowing more than one card game is a good idea. You can easily learn about any and every card game imaginable online. If you’ve ever wondered about just how many different games you can play with 52 cards, or you want to find a new obsession, start with some online research. Knowing more about a game can ensure that you have both more fun playing and the upper hand!

Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

Last but not least: Presentation! Everybody, whether they care to admit it or not, loves a good card flourish. Whether that’s knowing to shuffle cards in a cascading waterfall or a few card tricks, it’s always impressive. It’s also a great way to entertain onlookers, intimidate your fellow players, or learn a new skill! You don’t have to pull out all the stops and show your wild card immediately, but knowing how to shuffle cards at least is a good start. And remember, if you can’t win them over with your gaming skills, win them over with your tricks and charm!

Now that you’re all caught up, you’re ready to go out there and try your hand at a few games. Looking like a professional takes a lot of hard work and dedication, especially if you want to make playing at cards look effortless! We hope this list has given you an extra card up your sleeve and shown you that there’s more to playing cards than just the deck.

Google announces the new 2nd gen Nest Hub and it aims to help you sleep better. #NestHub #Google #2ndGenNest

Google Nest today announces that the second-generation Nest Hub is launching in twelve more countries around the world: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

“We know people already come to Google for information and tools to help them live healthier, happier lives, and we’ve specifically noticed more and more questions about sleep, exercise and health. So we decided to bring these kinds of solutions to our second-generation Nest Hub, while also improving what people already love about it” said Ashton Udall, Product Manager at Google Nest.

The Nest Hub you love, but better

The new Nest Hub’s speaker is based on the same audio technology as Nest Audio and has 50 percent more bass than the original Hub. Fill any room with music, podcasts or audiobooks from services like YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music — or enjoy your favorite TV shows and movies with a subscription from providers like Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube. With Quick Gestures, you can pause or play content at any time by tapping the air in front of your display.

The new Nest Hub also shows all your compatible connected devices in one place. And with a built-in Thread radio, Nest Hub will work with the new connectivity standard being created by the Project Connected Home over IP working group, making it even simpler to control your connected home.

New sleep features for better rest

The Nest Hub has always helped you tackle the day; now, it can help you rest well at night. Many of us don’t get enough sleep, which comes with some real risks.

In recent years, sleep trackers have become a popular solution. But we wanted to offer an alternative way for people who may not want to wear something to bed to understand their sleep. And we knew people felt comfortable with Nest Hub at their bedsides thanks to its camera-free design, so we went to work. The result is Sleep Sensing, an opt-in feature to help you understand and improve your sleep:

Understand your sleep: Sleep Sensing uses Motion Sense (powered by Soli low-energy radar technology) to analyze how the person closest to the display is sleeping, based on their movement and breathing — all without a camera or wearable. Sleep Sensing can also detect sleep disturbances like coughing and snoring or the light and temperature changes in the room with Nest Hub’s built-in microphones and ambient light and temperature sensors, so you can better understand what’s impacting your sleep.

Every morning you’ll receive a personalized sleep summary on your display, or you can view your sleep data anytime on the Nest Hub by asking, “Hey Google, how did I sleep?” Sleep Sensing can also connect to your Google Fit app on Android and iOS devices, so you can see your sleep summary alongside your other health and wellness information on your phone.

Get help for better sleep: Understanding your sleep is an important first step, but you may still have questions about what else you can do to get a better night’s sleep. Sleep Sensing helps by providing tailored bedtime schedules and personalized suggestions for improvement, developed by a team of sleep scientists and using guidance from organizations like the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Compiled after several nights of analysis, these suggestions point you to notable aspects of your sleep, educate you on why those areas are important and provide suggestions to improve.

Built with your privacy in mind: Sleep Sensing is completely optional with privacy safeguards in place so you’re in control: You choose if you want to enable it and there’s a visual indicator on the display to let you know when it’s on. Motion Sense only detects motion, not specific bodies or faces, and your coughing and snoring audio data is only processed on the device — it isn’t sent to Google servers. You have multiple controls to disable Sleep Sensing features, including a hardware switch that physically disables the microphone. You can review or delete your sleep data at any time, and consistent with our privacy commitments, it isn’t used for personalized ads.

Sleep Sensing on the second-gen Nest Hub is available as a free preview until next year. We’ll also be looking for ways to integrate with Fitbit’s sleep tracking features to bring the best of both together in the future.

Even if you choose not to enable Sleep Sensing, you can still fall asleep and wake up easier with Nest Hub. The display dims to make your bedroom more sleep-friendly, and the “Your evening” page helps you wind down at night with relaxing sounds. When it’s time to wake up, Nest Hub’s Sunrise Alarm gradually brightens the display and increases the alarm volume. If you need a few more ZZZs, use Motion Sense to wave your hand and snooze the alarm.

Sustainable design that matches any room

The new Nest Hub comes in two colour options: Chalk and Charcoal. It features an edgeless glass display that’s easy to clean and makes your Nest Hub an even more beautiful digital photo frame. And continuing our commitment to sustainability, Nest Hub is designed with recycled materials with its plastic mechanical parts containing 54 percent recycled post-consumer plastic.

The second-generation Nest Hub will be available for €99.99 from the Google Store from the 4th May, 2021.

Hybrid Working Is Here To Stay As Offices Prepare To Burst Back To Life. #Konftel

The traditional office is set to bounce back soon, but according to leading global collaboration manufacturer Konftel, rapid transformation will need to take place to deliver safer working conditions.

“Video conferencing will continue to drive meeting communications across a mix of remote working and phased office life,” UK Sales Director Jeff May said. “More companies are reorganising their offices and preparing to facilitate increased video meetings. That’s why we’re urging resellers to fully prepare their customers for the next phase of Covid recovery – backed by the latest independent research and a new educational webinar.”

Konftel estimates more than half of businesses are planning to accelerate IT budgets this year, with video meeting room technologies being one of their top priorities. May says the hybrid workplace will continue to grow, blending a combination of working from home and a gradual return to offices.

The company’s views have been reinforced by new research from strategic advisory analysts Metrigy and discussions with distributors and resellers across the globe.

“The traditional office is already going through a significant transformation,” May continued. “It’s clear many successful companies are already experiencing a rapid return on investment and are planning to invest more in meeting room technologies and hardware for remote workers.

“Versatile, cost effective and ‘climate neutral’ solutions (with no net impact on the planet) will be key. Konftel ticks every box.”

To support a safe office return, Konftel advises:

  • Limiting capacity of office spaces to ensure adequate social distancing
  • Converting existing meeting rooms into video enabled conferencing
  • Installation of touchless device technologies such as ‘contactless conferencing’
  • Adding more enclosed work zones
  • Increased general cleaning and sanitation

“Future workgroups will likely consist of a mix of in-person and remote participants, with professional-quality video meetings becoming the benchmark for collaboration success, wherever people are working. Flexibility is key.”

May added: “Clearly it is an evolving situation in all four corners of the world. But one thing is for sure, businesses need to prepare for greater numbers in the office, whilst also maintaining remote working too.

“We are planning a new webinar over the coming months to advise and assist resellers on how they can best equip their customers for the next phase of Covid recovery.”

Konftel has seen huge demand for flexible USB-based video kits, whilst early orders for its new Konftel Cam10 business webcam have exceeded expectations. A series of new products are in the pipeline, such as a high performance speakerphone and combined video cameras.

Contactless Conferencing

May emphasised: “Safety and social distancing will be vital when more people return to offices. No-touch solutions will be increasingly popular. Take our Konftel Unite app for example, that switches the operation of audio-based meetings from the traditional keypad to the screen of a mobile phone or tablet, easily via Bluetooth.”

Konftel has always argued for flexibility when it comes to all the collaboration tools available, such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex. It says safety is paramount too. At the office, Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) means the user can take their laptop into the meeting room with their choice of collaboration app installed and then connect the computer to the speakerphone, conference cam and screen using a single USB cable (Konftel OCC).

May concluded: “In addition our Konftel 800 audio device for example can be daisy-chained to significantly increase the distance between people, yet ensure they are still clearly heard even in the biggest of rooms. Returning to the office, embracing the hybrid workplace and working from home long term are the three main factors organisations need to be addressing now.”

Netmore building out nationwide IoT network (LoRaWAN®) in Ireland – Starts in Dublin

Netmore has initiated an extensive venture when the IoT operator starts building a nationwide IoT network based on LoRaWAN technology in Ireland. The investment is part of an international rollout plan for Netmore’s IoT Network business area. The strategic decision to expand the existing network with nationwide coverage in Ireland, is based on local demand for large-scale IoT connectivity.

The network expansion in Ireland means that Netmore is taking the next step in the international expansion of the IoT network. The network is growing in parallel with more and more devices being connected, and is purpose-built to provide for millions of IoT devices worldwide with a robust and reliable connectivity.

Netmore, through subsidiaries, cooperation agreements, customer agreements and contacts, has been active in Ireland since 2010, which is why the increased focus on the Irish market is a natural step.

International IoT recipe for success is introduced in Ireland

In connection with the LoRaWAN establishment in Dublin and the official launch, Netmore introduces three growth concepts with which it has had success in the Swedish market. The concepts have been developed to create the best possible conditions for IoT growth for the company’s existing and prospective IoT partners.

LoRaWAN – Coverage on demand

For IoT service providers, Netmore offers to adapt the network expansion to their application and sensor rollout plan. Netmore builds LoRaWAN to ensure that the distributed devices receive the coverage needed for their IoT solution. This is necessary to create the intended benefit for the end IoT user.

LoRaWAN – Try for free (platform included)

IoT service- and solution providers as well as other IoT players will have the opportunity to test Netmore’s entire LoRaWAN offering free of charge. Five devices can be connected for three months, and Netmore’s complete IoT platform is included. The platform provides the ability to control and monitor the devices, while a full-scale and cyber-secure bidirectional API makes it possible to integrate the IoT solution as is desired.

Integrated IoT connectivity

Netmore’s partners (for example IoT service providers and sensor manufacturers) have the opportunity to create and package commercially viable IoT solutions, where the network connection is fully integrated into the cost of the solution. When the cost of connectivity is integrated at an early stage in IoT projects, the probability increases for a smooth process when the project goes from pilot phase to commercial delivery.

AIRPULSE launch the A80 bookshelf speakers in electric Blue. #AIRPULSE #Tech #Speakers

AIRPULSE has released the quintessential modern bookshelf speaker – the A80 – in a stunning electric blue. In addition to the original Walnut Finish, the recently released A80 matches in equal parts its technical superiority and stunning design. Created to be the perfect combination of conventional loudspeaker and digital XMOS system, the A80 offers a superb sound quality from a stylish unit.

The A80 is AIRPULSE’S entry level plug and play speaker that utilizes the brand’s signature horn-loaded aluminium ribbon tweeter and proprietary 4.5-inch magnet ferrite mid woofer to drive the system. The thin aluminium ribbon diaphragm has high sensitivity, superb transient response, extended frequency range and well-defined resolution. This meticulously formulated horn shape produces directional and optimized high frequencies from the ribbon tweeter, so they are aimed at the listeners, minimizing unwanted inflections and producing a superior, three-dimensional sound with excellently defined details.

The mid woofer is a 4.5’ hard anodized aluminium alloy cone suspended in a heavy, ultra-rigid cast magnesium alloy frame. Featuring a 30mm diameter voice coil, it is unusually larger than most loudspeakers of this size. It has been shown that larger voice coils have less power compression because they run at a cooler operating temperature. In terms of this sound produced, this means a more realistic and dynamic representation of the music.

The interior of the A80 is padded with professional pyramid soundproofing foam, reducing unwanted resonance, while the oval vent tube is carefully designed to minimize wind noise while in use. The A80 cabinet is built with an 18-mm thick high-strength MDF in beautiful walnut finish that, while making this a stylish addition to any room, further reduces coloration and audio distortion.

Connect audio sources to the A80 via AUX, RCA, optical, coaxial, USB, professional balanced input, and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth input uses version 5.0 and has support for Qualcomm aptX codec, resulting in minimal interruptions. The well – known American TRANSPARENT cable is used for internal connections to ensure minimum signal loss, producing a reliable sound quality.

Bass, treble and volume controls are located on the back panel. Easily brighten the highs-frequency to your taste and adjust the amount of bass according to the listening environment. Included with the pair of speakers is a wireless remote that allows you to switch between inputs, adjust volume and mute your speakers from a distance.
