In addition Konftel will explore options for improved energy efficiency at its biggest manufacturing sites.

Instagram launches new tools to stop abuse. #Instagram #SocialMedia

Instagram have announced a new way to protect people from seeing abusive DMs  as well as the ability to prevent someone you’ve blocked from contacting you from a new account. Social media has been under big pressure to tackle such and much more is still needed to be done here to curb this kind of behaviour this is a step forward and lets see what the future hold, see the Press release below.

A new feature to filter abusive messages

We understand the impact that abusive content – whether it’s racist, sexist, homophobic, or any other kind of abuse – can have on people. Nobody should have to experience that on Instagram. But combatting abuse is a complex challenge and there isn’t one single step we can take to eliminate it completely. For example, we know that many in our community, particularly people with larger followings, have faced abuse in their DM request inbox from people they don’t follow.

Because DMs are private conversations, we don’t proactively look for hate speech or bullying the same way we do elsewhere on Instagram. That’s why we’re introducing a new tool which, when turned on, will automatically filter DM requests containing offensive words, phrases and emojis, so you never have to see them. This tool focuses on DM requests, because this is where people usually receive abusive messages – unlike your regular DM inbox, where you receive messages from friends. It will work in a similar way to the comment filters we already offer, which allow you to hide offensive comments and choose what terms you don’t want people to use in comments under your posts. You can turn both comment and DM request filters on and off in a new dedicated section of your Privacy Settings called Hidden Words.

We’ve worked with leading anti-discrimination and anti-bullying organisations to develop a predefined list of offensive terms that will be filtered from DM requests when the feature is turned on. We know different words can be hurtful to different people, so you’ll also have the option to create your own custom list of words, phrases or emojis that you don’t want to see in your DM requests. All DM requests that contain these offensive words, phrases, or emojis – whether from your custom list or the predefined list – will be automatically filtered into a separate hidden requests folder. If you choose to open the folder, the message text will be covered so you’re not confronted with offensive language, unless you tap to uncover it. You then have the option to accept the message request, delete it, or report it.

This new feature is designed to help protect you from potentially offensive or abusive DM requests, while also respecting your privacy. All message filtering will take place on your own device, which means this feature won’t send any message content back to our servers. Using this feature doesn’t share the content of your DM requests with us, unless you report them.

We’ll start rolling out this feature in Ireland and a number of other countries in the coming weeks and will look to expand to more countries over the next few months.

A new way to protect you from unwanted contact 

We’re also making it harder for someone who you’ve already blocked from contacting you again through a new account. With this feature, whenever you decide to block someone on Instagram, you’ll have the option to both block their account and pre-emptively block new accounts that person may create. This will be available globally in the next few weeks.

This is in addition to our harassment policies, which already prohibit people from repeatedly contacting someone who doesn’t want to hear from them. We also don’t allow recidivism, which means if someone’s account is disabled for breaking our rules, we would remove any new accounts they create whenever we become aware of it.

Continuing our work to combat offensive comments

As well as using our proactive detection technology to help catch violating comments, we offer a number of tools to help you control abuse in your comments. If you have a public account, you have the option to only allow comments from people you follow and/or are following you.

We’re also starting to hide common misspellings of offensive words from your manual comment filter list, so that even if a word you don’t want to see is accidentally or deliberately spelled wrong, you still won’t see it in your comments.

We know there’s still more we can do, and we’re committed to continuing our fight against bullying and online abuse. We’ll keep working in partnership with experts, industry organizations, teens, creators, and public figures to understand their experience on Instagram and how we can evolve our policies and products to protect them from online abuse.

Tech Review – Creative STAGE V2 soundbar and subwoofer. #Tech #STAGEV2

Many of you over the Xmas would have got a new TV for your sitting room or perhaps bedroom but one this consistent with TV speakers is they are generally underwhelming when it comes to delivering sound and with smart TVs selling like hotcakes you will pick them up for a good price which is grand but notice the offers on soundbars in the TV section in any store? Yes the stores also know this too and its an option for you to decide on yourself..

So here is the thing.. Remember 3D tv? Yes it failed and one thing that is consistent is the sound coming from your TV unless you spend thousands on and already 8K TVs are being touted which there is no need for now and simply out of most peoples price bracket now especially in the state the country is in now with the pandemic. So just buy your 4K smart TV which can be picked up for around 600 euro or less depending on screen size. Buy if you are clever you could get a great TV and sound system for under a grand easily and still enjoy a cinematic experince and the creative STAGE V2 is one way to do it which also comes with a subwoofer and I will tell you this it changes how you watch films and listen to music.

This works with everything, Gaming consoles, TV, Phone and Projectors which I primarily use at home because massive screen estate and portability. I always say to people go the optical route with any product as it works better and less hassle and that is how I have set mine up, I have tried several soundbars in the past but none came with a subwoofer which makes all the difference, your couch will vibrate yet alone the floor and this system just does it all, the sound is great, there is some power from the system and volume loud but not as loud as I would like it but that is just me and the same with headphones but yes my neighbours could here it next door so for the average joe it will be more than sufficient.

The build quality is also great and it blends in well with my surroundings and does not look out of place, I have two other speakers already connected to my TV too so I may pair them up with this system for an even more immersive setup but would rather have the same brand as a complete set up, for now these replace the current set up I had and I am really impressed overall with the quality and versatility this system gives, we go through the product below in the video review showing you how it works, different connection options and what you can connect to it which will enhance your experience overall than the usual flat experience you tend to get. Tech Review – Epson WF-110W mobile printer. #Epson #Printing #Tech

Printers come in all shapes and sizes the price of course applies but there is various options available for the consumer to buy and especially businesses. For the office printer some can be huge and cumbersome and I have always found them too big and feel they could be made smaller. I have seen many printers the public would not be use to seeing such as our government’s printer that still has not printed a page and cost the taxpayer a colossal amount of money and printers to create maps and plans and so on and the need for those is different however I still find office printers and home printers on the large side but it is what it is I guess.

Mobile printers have been around some years, I remember signing documents printed off one years ago for life insurance and it was a strange looking device and awkward to say the least to set up never mind print a page but things have changed over the years with technology advancing and we now see more mobile printers in use today than ever before and some look the part and do the job whilst some look awful.

The Epson WF-110W mobile printer is a new option and advanced compared to others I have seen and does the job and more and is ideal for conducting business on the go, sales reps, insurance you name it now all sport mobile printers as they call to your home at late hours to get the paperwork signed rather than email it, this is portable, not cumbersome and easy enough to carry in your bag whilst you are on the go, of course you do need to carry paper but that can be left in the car and only a few sheets are required in most cases for printing in someone’s home or office on the road. this comes with WI-FI cloud services and more and has a small screen where you set up to your needs.

I had this set up in 5 minutes which was good and there is little tech know how required here if you just want to print paper or files off or files from your phone or Google cloud services it is simple and the quality is quite good too especially for documents but not so much on images this maybe due to the ink levels I had left on my review unit but overall they are good and that is what matters when your spending such money on a device. Personally I have no printer in the office and must invest in one, I have had printers in the past and they have been just too big and in the way where as this one will sit neatly in any home setting and furthermore you dont need to touch it once set up to get documents or files printed, it works well with the cloud service and general use and an ideal piece of kit to have at your disposal.

Tech Review – Edifier TWS1 PRO #Edifier #Tech TWS1PRO

Back in 2019 we checked out the TWS1 and now Edifier has the new TWS1PRO for us to check out and they are indeed an improvement however Edifier have been constant with their audio signature and their products are solid and the TWS NB remain my favourite to date but they have more to come and we cant wait to try them out in the coming weeks.

The TWS1 PRO may look the same but have improved with sound and hopefully like the TWS1 they come in a new range of colours too later on which are super affordable. Check out the GREEN model here.

So how do these sound and feel? Great fit given a little on the large side some might say but on par with many others on the market they are packing a good punch sound great and they fit well overall. Controls are simple to use here again with the large touch area on the housing with the Edifier logo prominent. We go through the controls in the video review below which as mentioned simple to use, there is however some features missing but its the sound signature that wins, highs lows and mids are fine direction and clarity is great too ,same for calls also these can be used individually which is important and the volume is decently loud too so I cant complain for the price here.

Tech Review – The Eachine E520s 720p drone. Great for starting off with. #Drones #Tech

I am no drone expert so lets get that out of the way nor claim to be one however I am seeing many people in the tech world touring €400 is what you call an affordable drone which is utter bullshit. OK the brand in question is DJI that make good drones dont get me wrong but the constant push at €400 and affordable is BS and should be ignored unless you are using in a professional capacity and have being flying drones before and have had the practice of their basic functions before you go and shed out big money on the more expensive ones.

Drones come in all shapes and sizes and of course price point and can be picked up cheap as the one in this review for example. If you are new to drones start out on the smaller cheap scale to get the skills to understand how they work rather than shell out and lose your affordable €400 drone and be pissed off for a long time over it, At least loosing a cheap drone is not a big deal and a fraction of the price.

This drone comes in several variants and all cheap but can go up much higher and here is where to start. I have lost a drone and I know many other who have only my first drone loss was non expensive and I got over it however I know some folk who have lost expensive ones going in with the expert approach and never flew a drone before and I just laugh.

This drone has all the features of more expensive drones bar the camera quality and it is sufficient to have fun and learn the basics before you move up to more expensive gear, As with many drones battery life is the problem but you can purchase separate batteries to have longer sessions and fun and get shots you could never do otherwise and drones are a new approach to getting things done in more ways than one. You can configure your package here with this drone with battery quantity,camera quality and more which I think is great.

It is simple to setup use and learn the basics with easy to use controls on the joypad or use the on screen controls from your smartphone with basis toggles again on both to capture images,record videos and do basic commands controlling it. This is a first of several drones I will be checking out and this time around I had brutal weather and it was windy which made it hard to get good stabilised footage but I went out to see what it was capable of doing in such conditions and the results are good given the poor camera on this but the day footage is good enough and a great way to get started before you get the skills and knowledge built up and shed out truck loads of money for the likes of DJI and so on.
