US based Utility Innovation Group establishes European HQ in Dublin following acquisition of Irish energy advisory firm

Utility Innovation Group (UIG), a leading US-based provider of advanced energy solutions, has today announced the strategic acquisition of Enicity, a leading advisory firm specialising in the application of innovative energy technologies in modern power systems based in Ireland. Following the minority investment by Gothenburg, Sweden based Volvo Penta in April, the acquisition will see UIG establish a formal European headquarters in Dublin as it positions itself for accelerated expansion into the wider European energy market.

The global journey towards decarbonisation is presenting new and complex challenges for electric utilities and Large Energy Users (LEUs), including data centres, in all major economies. As people strive to reduce their carbon footprint and transition to cleaner more diverse energy sources, electric utilities and operators are under increasing pressure to optimise their infrastructure and integrate renewable energy into their grids all while ensuring reliable power supply which minimises environmental impact.

Founded by utility veteran Alan McHugh, Enicity has established itself as an influential player across the European energy sector, known for its partnership approach and commitment to smart and sustainable energy solutions for utilities and LEUs. By incorporating Enicity’s regulatory experience, utility facing capability, and established network, UIG further compliments its wealth of system integration expertise as they deploy their battery energy storage, distributed generation, and GridSure controls platform within the European market. Alan McHugh, will continue onwards as Managing Director of Europe for UIG. The acquisition aligns with UIG’s mission to revolutionise the global energy landscape and underscores its commitment to influencing the growth of decentralized and advanced utility systems worldwide.

Derek Tugwell, President, UIG, added: “Acquiring Enicity represents a major milestone in our expansion strategy. The European energy market offers tremendous potential for growth, and with Enicity’s impressive track record and partnership approach, we are well-positioned to make a substantial impact. EU markets are already facing complex challenges in terms of adapting power and grid infrastructure to a new electric landscape, and we have shown that our expertise and solutions platform provides a new means to overcome these challenges.”

Alan McHugh, Managing Director, Enicity said: “We are delighted to become part of the Utility Innovation Group family. This partnership marks an exciting new chapter, as we combine our expertise with UIG’s vast resources, solutions platform, and global reach. Together, we are poised to bring unparalleled innovation to the European energy market and drive the adoption of sustainable energy solutions at scale.”

Tech Review – ASUS Zenfone 10

One might recall when compact devices where a thing any Sony once ruled the roost here and today it is a debatable topic which is well and good and yet again the iPhone seems to get dragged in somehow and that being the mini which apparently is not popular today but I disagree here and this is coming from a person who preferred bigger phones and has been using them for many years, now however I like the smaller phone now as a daily driver which has one obvious bugbear having the smaller screen however I can now live with this and the ASUS Zenfone 10 has been a super solid phone to use the last while and it could be phone of the year.

Being a compact device one would think it has cut corners but not here even with the battery being smaller the optimisation of the phone is excellent yielding an easy day and half for me being a power user but for the average person it is a two day or more phone, the next main thing is the screen which is glorious with an AMOLED panel with a 5.9 inch size and can go up to the much pointless tech speak of 144 Hz in gaming and 120 Hz refresh rate standard and has 800 nits with a peak 1,100 nit and makes for fine outdoor reading.

Need protection and more check out our  Review – ASUS Zenfone 10 Connex Accessories Set

Here for some though is the screen size issue for those who want to consume media and for me in all fairness it is not that bad on a smaller screen and if I want to go large I just stick on my projector at home I would not be one to consume media much on the go as it would be in a hotel for example and I would cast or use another product or means to do so from my phone but overall the experience is crisp and clean with excellent sounding speakers thrown into the mix.

Need a case check out our – Review – ASUS Zenfone 10 Rhinoshield SolidSuit case

The build quality of the device was solid for me and perfect in the had which was mentioned in the unboxing video, my review device colour was bland but it comes in more eye catching colours which I really like and we have polycarbonate materials here which are solid and eco friendly.

When it comes to getting the job done be it gaming social media emails and all that kind of stuff in which I have other apps and some heavy hitters this phone sailed through with no problems at all it performed better than my Pixel 7a and iPhone 14 pro at most tasks and this is an important factor for many if like me use their phone daily and power user, this device just done it simply and effortlessly.

Unboxing and Walkthrough

The cameras are powerful although this is not the main feature I tend to look for in a phone they all claim to be great but just wait and see the comparison to another review device I have in claiming all the bells ans whistles and the camera alone was poor never mind the performance but the camera and video on this device is up there with the other top tier devices out there and in some cases better, this is subjective mind you but from testing many phones over the years and buying multiple other devices this phone packs a punch in the day and night with both video and camera shots and there is samples below taken with this device and you can be the judge, as in all phone reviews I never claim to be the camera expert or portray myself as one but I do know good results when I see them and here I was impressed overall and remember we can shoot up to 8k on this device.

Battery power is excellent as mentioned above and will see most through a solid days work my workload would be heavier than most and I would be more demanding with some gaming but not as much as I would previously would through at a phone in recent years I am gone beyond that gaming stage now being honest but I do have several games there for travel or toilet purposes when bored.. We have wireless charging of course and this comes in at 30 watt fast charging and 15 wirelessly charging.

Overall this is a little powerhouse of a phone and I enjoy it immensely and it does everything it says on the tin and it is also a phone that delivers results on cameras and performance it might be on the smaller size for some but get over that caveat and we have a contender for phone of the year though again when it comes to price this might be another caveat for some and like that you can’t please everyone can you..

Bard’s latest update: more features, languages and countries

Curiosity and imagination are the driving forces behind human creativity. Whether it’s a child inventing a game, friends dreaming up their next adventure, or an entrepreneur coming up with a new business idea, the ability to imagine new possibilities is one of the most innate human qualities. Bard today has launched in Europe with new features and more, check out the press release below..

That’s why we created Bard: to help you explore that curiosity, augment your imagination and ultimately get your ideas off the ground — not just by answering your questions, but by helping you build on them.

Today we’re announcing Bard’s biggest expansion to date. It’s now available in most of the world, and in the most widely spoken languages. And we’re launching new features to help you better customize your experience, boost your creativity and get more done.

Interact with Bard in new places and languages

Starting today, you can collaborate with Bard in over 40 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, German, Hindi and Spanish. You can also now access Bard in more places, including Brazil and across Europe. As part of our bold and responsible approach to AI, we’ve proactively engaged with experts, policymakers and privacy regulators on this expansion. And as we bring Bard to more regions and languages over time, we’ll continue to use our AI Principles as a guide, incorporate user feedback, and take steps to protect people’s privacy and data.

GIF shows the text “Bard can collaborate with you in over 40 languages, including…” followed by names of different languages.

Get more customized responses

We’re launching new updates so Bard’s responses better suit your needs:

Listen to responses: Sometimes hearing something out loud can help you approach your idea in a different way. That’s why, starting today, you can listen to Bard’s responses. This is especially helpful if you want to hear the correct pronunciation of a word or listen to a poem or script. Simply enter a prompt and select the sound icon to hear Bard’s answers. This feature is now live in over 40 languages.

  • Easily adjust Bard’s responses: You can now change the tone and style of Bard’s responses to five different options: simple, long, short, professional or casual. For example, you can ask Bard to help you write a marketplace listing for a vintage armchair, and then shorten the response using the drop-down. This feature is live in English and will expand to new languages soon.

Boost your productivity

Four new Bard features are also launching today to help you get more done:

  • Pin and rename conversations: We’ve heard you want to be able to revisit prompts, so we’re adding new ways to pin and rename your conversations with Bard. Now when you start a conversation, you’ll see options to pin, rename and pick up recent conversations in the sidebar. For example, if you ask Bard to help you compare outdoor sports for the summer, you can revisit the tips later. This feature is now live in over 40 languages.

GIF shows a conversation with Bard. The cursor selects the option to pin the chat in the sidebar and renames it.

  • Export code to more places: We’re continuing to see interest in using Bard for coding tasks. So today we’re adding a new feature that allows you to export Python code to Replit, in addition to Google Colab. This feature is now live in over 40 languages.

  • Share responses with friends: We’ve also made it easier to share part or all of your Bard chat with your network. With shareable links, you can share your ideas and creations with others. This feature is live in over 40 languages.

  • Use images in your prompts: Images are a big part of how we put our imaginations to work. At I/O we announced we’re bringing the capabilities of Google Lens into Bard. Whether you want more information about an image or just need help coming up with a caption, you can now upload images with prompts and Bard will analyze the photo to help. This feature is now live in English, and we’ll expand to new languages soon.

GIF shows the text “Bard can now collaborate using Google Lens” and a picture of a bike.

So the next time you have an inkling of an idea, a full-fledged concept or just need to brainstorm, give Bard a try. You’ll not only find the tools to bring that idea to life, you may also uncover an entirely new one.

Gamma and AXA enabling homeowners to go green with new sustainability offering

Gamma, the Irish technology company, has recently announced that it has signed a contract with AXA, one of Ireland’s leading insurance companies, to support AXA’s new Go Green web platform.

The platform is designed to help homeowners in the Republic of Ireland to create a more sustainable and comfortable home, reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy bills. It offers a wealth of information for home improvements and helps streamline the research process for homeowners, saving them time and hassle.

Together, AXA and Gamma have enhanced Gamma’s existing BERWOW platform to provide a seamless and visually consistent user experience. The platform generates tailored retrofit suggestions based on an individual property’s energy rating and physical characteristics.

Homeowners can effortlessly access energy retrofit recommendations using their own BER information by entering their Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN), or by selecting their house type from over 50 classifications. The web-based tool aims to educate homeowners about the financial and comfort benefits associated with retrofit investment.

In addition to the collaboration with AXA, Gamma also has successful partnerships with SSE Airtricity and An Post in place. Over the coming years, the company aims to further grow its customer base and expand into international markets.

Feargal O’Neill, CEO, Gamma, said: “We are thrilled to join forces with AXA and bring our BERWOW technology to their customers. This collaboration is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team in developing an innovative solution that is already enabling homeowners across Ireland to identify, plan and carry out retrofit projects.”

“As we continue to expand our reach, we remain committed to helping homeowners make informed decisions on energy efficiency upgrades, ultimately contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.”

Michael Hanratty, BERWOW CEO, said: “Our goal is to create a one-stop retrofitting shop for the Irish homeowner and transform the industry. In order to do this, we have to work with leaders and the fact that companies of AXA’s calibre are associated with our technology is a great endorsement.”

Ben Deans, Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer at AXA in Ireland, added, “Our aim is to provide our customers with protection and peace of mind. That’s where Go Green comes in – it will help future proof customer homes, reduce reliance on electricity and gas and save on energy bills. This new offering supported by Gamma aligns with our strategic focus to ‘protect more of what matters’ and adds to a host of existing initiatives focused on sustainability and climate action.”
