Surge in young investors across Ireland and the EEA

New data from Revolut’s European-licensed investment firm has identified a considerable increase in the number of young investors across both Ireland and the EEA more broadly. Young millennials and Gen Z are beginning to invest at a much younger age than any generation before them, according to internal data from Revolut. The global financial app has more than 45 million retail customers globally, over 30 million across the EEA, while over 2.8 million people are Revolut customers here in Ireland. The company’s Investment services across the EEA are provided by Revolut Securities Europe UAB.

Younger investors, defined as those aged 18-34, now make up over 57% of Revolut’s investment customers in Ireland — only slightly below the company’s pan-EEA average of 62%. Notably, one in every four of Revolut’s EEA-based customers who started to put money into the investment firm in the first half of 2024 said they were new to investing. In addition, the amount of investors aged 18-34 in Ireland has risen considerably by more than 17% when comparing the first two quarters of 2024.

Investments into Money Market Funds (MMFs) through Revolut’s Flexible Cash Funds service, which launched earlier this year, made up nearly two-thirds (62%) of the country’s youngsters’ investment portfolios. Other financial instruments, such as stocks and ETFs, accounted for 16% respectively, while bonds were traded by just 6% of young investors in Ireland.

The average portfolio size of all of Revolut’s investing customers in Ireland is more than €2,600. When compared to the company’s EEA-wide average of just over €4,000, it’s clear that Ireland’s appetite for investing versus other member states still lags behind its European peers.

Revolut’s youngest investors, defined as those aged 18-24, tended to start out by investing much smaller amounts in Ireland — with the average size of their portfolios around €400, while those aged 25-34 typically had around €1,300 invested.

In terms of the most popular assets among 18-34-year-olds, most recently in July, the most-traded US stock (measured by the most bought and most sold assets) was the fluctuating American tech giant Nvidia, currently dominating the markets owing to its recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI).

Meanwhile, the most bought ETF in Ireland was the Vanguard S&P 500, while the most sold was the Dow Jones Global Titans 50 index. The top moving EU stock (both bought and sold) was German battery manufacturer VARTA AG.

Rolandas Juteika, Head of Wealth and Trading (EEA), said: “The unprecedented level of interest in investing among our younger customers marks a significant shift in the financial landscape. This generation is much more involved in finance, with a strong focus on education. Revolut is a helpful tool for Irish investors looking to build up their knowledge and confidence in investing. Our app features courses, trading alerts, company performance information, and up-to-the-minute market news.”

Revolut offers a wide array of investment options for its customers across Ireland and the EEA, with over 3,000 financial assets (US and EEA stocks, ETFs, corporate and government bonds) available within the Revolut app. Investing in stocks and ETFs is commission-free within customers’ plan limit allowance. Other fees may apply.

Revolut also offers a Robo-Advisor service, which is best-suited to customers who have limited or no trading experience or simply don’t have time to do extensive research. In contrast, for more experienced traders, the company has a Trading Pro subscription — this paid plan offers pricing benefits (such as lower commission fees and higher order size limits), as well as additional analytics features. This pairs well with Revolut’s sophisticated in-app investing tools, which are designed for both beginners and professionals alike.

Maurice Murphy, General Manager at Revolut Bank UAB – Ireland Branch, added: While our savings account ensures Irish savers can get a really good return on their deposits, this data shows that our customers’ are embracing these additional options to further diversify and build their wealth. Investing needn’t be overly complicated, nor should it only be for the wealthy or the more-experienced. At Revolut, we’re eager to help and encourage the next wave of investors and support their respective financial journeys — while also providing Ireland’s more-experienced traders with the sophisticated tools that they need.”

European-licensed bank Revolut was recently recognised by financial comparison site Bonkers.ie as ‘Ireland’s Best Consumer Business’ and ‘provider of the Best Current Account’, while the company ranked 9th as part of the Ireland RepTrak® 2024 study earlier this year.

Revolut’s investment services in the EEA are provided by Revolut Securities Europe UAB, an investment firm authorised and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania. Tech Review – Ellie Baby Plus, Baby Monitor Pro

The Ellie Baby Plus, Baby Monitor Pro is a simple to set up and use camera for your home and given it is aimed at babies in the house this can be used for basic security for your pet or even elder parents/ grandparents if they have a need to be monitored which is great.

What is great with this kit is there is a tablet that comes with it and an app which bot replicate each other in most instances so for example if you are in one room and your baby or child in another you can carry the portable tablet with you which is well built and robust and simple to use just like the app and you can see both in action in the video review below and what to expect.

The app is full of features and has a good UI  and works both on Android and iOS giving you control be it at home or if you are away and you can set notifications if you wish to do so and not miss a thing.

There is a two way speaker system and you can clearly hear if you are either listening or speaking from your phone not only this there is a suite of options for babies such as lullabies to help them sleep if they are not settling down. You can also use the split screen mode if you are not with the child.

The camera is also quite cool with a themed toy shape and look and is silent when it is being moved around so it will not disturb your child or pet unless you speak through it.

The camera also offers zoom, large angle rotation, 360° room view, and automatic movement tracking. Features 2.5K QHD night vision and Pan-Tilt rotation and comes with local storage and no monthly fees which for me is a real bonus as most security cameras no require this and tease you into a 30 day trial with no SD card option so this is a huge win for me and certainly is for the customer.

Of course AI being the big buzzword now this camera also offer AI features such as covered face & rollover detection, breathing detection, sleep quality reports, danger zone detection, cry detection, auto-soothing, person tracking, and auto photo capture and also offer sleep  and breathing reports we do not have a baby to try this part out but I gently went over it with my dog who kindly participated in some of the review which was hard work.

Overall this is a superb product if you have a new baby and if you are expecting one this needs to be on your radar as it offer more than most in this category.

Revolutionizing Care: How Technology is Shaping the Future of Healthcare

For years, technology had a huge part in pushing forward healthcare systems; but as recent technological advancements are made, the new developments have changed the face of healthcare in ways never seen before. From AI-based diagnostics to telemedicine, these innovations are changing patient care, saving lives, and streamlining healthcare systems. Here we will pick up where we left off and dig deeper into this technological revolution within healthcare, how it is shaping the future of the industry, and what that means for patients as well as providers.

1) Diagnostics and Medical Treatment;

AI and machine learning are leading the healthcare transformation. Artificial intelligence technologies allow to processing of huge volumes of medical data, including images and patient documentation for more accurate and quicker diagnoses. Further, machine learning models assist in tailoring treatment plans to individual patient data, a factor that can drive the benefits of specific interventions and improve the outcome for patients.

2) Telemedicine for Increased Care Access:

Telemedicine enables patients to consult healthcare providers at home through video conferences & remote patient check-ups. Therefore, more healthcare facilities are built in response to this which means care is delivered quicker which staves off or even reverses various adverse health outcomes related to patient delays in receiving necessary treatment.

Telemedicine can address routine annual visits, but also follow-up for chronic conditions, and in some capacity can provide a diagnostic workup – all of those are the elements that make it much better for individual users compared to just taking care of immediate urgent needs.

3) Wearable Technology:

The use of wearable technology — smartwatches and fitness trackers in particular — is transforming how patients begin to manage their health. They can monitor vital signs, track movement, and feed real-time health data back to the patient and healthcare teams.

So, for example, connected wearables could warn you of an abnormal heart rhythm or if you have high blood pressure and you may want to get it checked out. The result is that chronic conditions can be better managed, and people are more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices, which leads to an overall better state of health and well-being.

4) Advanced Diagnostics and Imaging:

Recent technological innovations in imaging and diagnostics may improve the accuracy and efficiency of medical examinations. Imaging like MRI and CT scans can provide detailed high-resolution images of invested parts of the human body to assist with more accurate diagnosing.

Further, advances in endoscope maintenance and design have increased the dependability and quality of endoscopy. Preventive maintenance measures help ensure endoscopic equipment performs at its best, minimize procedural complications, and enhance patient safety.

5) Healthcare Management:

Data analytics and electronic health records (EHRs) are making healthcare management more automated, integrating the entire accomplishment, recording as well helping in decision-making better than humans. EHRs offer a complete perspective of the medical history of a patient that facilitates easy access and sharing of information among healthcare providers.

Data analytics tools can identify trends, predict patient outcomes, and optimize resource allocation in real-time. Through the integration of these technologies, healthcare systems can boost efficiency and reduce errors, all while making care more personalized.

In conclusion, we all know, that for better diagnostics, treatment, and patient care technology is changing the future of healthcare in a good way. AI, telemedicine, wearable tech, and the most minute imaging technologies are enhancing healthcare delivery and experience. As these innovations continue to grow, so too are the promises of what we can do around health and wellness – resulting in more effective and efficient healthcare for everyone.

These initiatives aim to enhance the detection capabilities of smaller and fainter objects in space, contributing to global efforts to ensure a safer and more sustainable orbital environment.

Prof. Waldmann, who will be joining Spaceflux full-time as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the Labs, stated, “Spaceflux Labs represents the next chapter in our journey to revolutionise space situational awareness. Our goal is to drive innovation in AI and sensor technologies, fostering collaboration and co-creation with our partners to deliver transformative solutions that meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

This dual achievement showcases Spaceflux’s leadership and expertise in the field of space situational awareness and aligns with the firm’s recent successes and strategic objectives in the UK. This project not only advances Spaceflux’s technological capabilities, but also positions the company for future opportunities to supply next-generation state-of-the-art systems to other clients.

Samsung Solves: Tips to Keep Your Home in Top Shape and Welcome Autumn on the Right Foot

The longer days of lounging outdoors are coming to an end. However, as days shorten, autumn calls us back inside to attend to what might now be some neglected spots around the home.

According to research by Samsung Ireland, over a third (31%) of Irish people consider vacuuming as their all-time favourite chore. With the average person spending over a week a year battling dust and dirt on their beloved floors.

To help restore order to your home and get prepared for some seasonal decor, Gino Grossi, Head of Brand Marketing for Home Appliances at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, shares some tips.

1)    Vacuuming

Vacuuming is a must in any home, especially if you have carpet and whether you love it or hate it, you can’t deny that vacuuming makes your home feel instantly fresher. Sometimes a quick go-around the floor with the vacuum is all you need. But when you neglect certain areas, like the back of the couch, dust and dirt build up and compromise that clean-home feeling.

It’s also important to consider the inner workings of your vacuum, it needs to have adequate airflow to function properly. If you tend to let the canister or vacuum bag fill to the brim before emptying it out, your machine will be less effective. Empty your vacuum after each use and if your vacuum has a bag, remember to change it regularly. In addition, learn how to clean your vacuum, from the canister to the filter and base plate.

Looking to upgrade? Bespoke Jet™ AI vacuum is the most powerful cordless stick vacuum yet with up to 280W₁ of suction power, a self-emptying enhanced All-in-One Clean Station and artificial intelligence (AI)-based functionality.

2)   Fridge Maintenance

Just like the back of the couch, a lot of dust can gather in the gap behind your fridge. At least once or twice a year, use the applicable attachment on your vacuum to spruce up this often-ignored part of the kitchen. If you keep the coils dust free, the fridge will be more efficient.

Over-packing is another common cause of fridge performance issues, according to our customer support teams. We recommend filling your fridge to no more than two-thirds of its capacity to help with air circulation, as over-packing your shelves can block air vents that keep your fridge cool, which over time can lead to expensive repairs.

If your household needs more storage, look out for models that maximise the capacity without taking up more space in your kitchen. All Samsung fridges feature SpaceMax technology, which means the walls are thinner but have higher insulation creating more space inside. This means you can store up to three more bags of groceries₂ without compromising on performance or space in your kitchen.

Dirty door seals are another common yet easily fixable reason why fridges don’t cool well. Dirty seals can cause gaps large enough to let in warm air. If you notice dirty seals or frost build up around the gasket, clean them immediately and allow up to 24 hours for your fridge to regain proper temperature.

Looking to upgrade? Samsung 75cm Wide Fridge Freezer is our A-rated fridge freezer that not only provides more space than common fridge types but also features AI Energy Mode. This feature can help you to save up to 15%₃ on your energy use by optimising the compressor speed and defrost cycles, based on your usage pattern.

3)   Washing Machine

Autumn also means going back to school and with that, comes a lot more laundry. One way to help make sure your washing machine stays clean is by running a washing machine cleaner through it every month or so. Remember to clean out the filter from your washing machine to help keep it running efficiently. This is usually the centre column of most machines, or near the bottom of the washtub. Check that you’re using the right type of detergent for your machine. For example, high-efficiency machines perform best with low-sudsing detergent, so check for “HE” on the detergent label to confirm you’re using the right kind.

Looking to upgrade? Samsung Series 6 AI Energy and WiFi-enabled Washing Machine brings significant energy savings of up to 70% with AI energy mode4 Our AI Wash takes the guesswork out of the perfect wash. Four sensors weigh your wash load and check the level of soiling to adjust the water, amount of detergent dispensed, rinse time and spin speed* for great results and minimal wear and tear with every wash.

The MopExtend™ unit also detects edges and corners by using a position-sensitive sensor that automatically expands the range of the mops by up to 4cm, making it possible to clean even hard-to-reach areas that pose a challenge for conventional cleaning robots.

The extendable and adjustable side brush is also able to fit underneath furniture with a height of more than 10mm, and when paired with the main brush can use different modes to adapt to multiple home scenarios. Even those areas that are susceptible to dust can be reached by the L40 Ultra.

Cross-contamination with mops is also prevented as the main brush can lift to 10.5mm, which is a big advantage for low-pile carpet cleaning.

Powerful Suction to Provide Ultimate Cleaning Solutions

The L40 Ultra impresses with an outstanding suction power of 11,000Pa, effectively removing animal hair, dust, and debris. This performance enables faster and better cleaning results in fewer passes, with users also able to select from five levels of suction power to adjust the cleaning performance to the individual.

The innovative dirt detection function, supported by an RGB AI camera, allows the L40 Ultra to independently detect dirt on the floor and adjust its performance accordingly. This technology also enables detailed cleaning with precise wiping movements.

The Anti-Tangle TriCut Brush is the perfect solution to hair tangling in the robot vacuum cleaner. With three specially designed cutting heads located on the roller brush, it is a must-have vacuum for pet owners, as it is able to automatically cut and feed human or animal hair directly into the dust container, saving users valuable time and effort.

All-in-One Auto Base Station Care

Dreame revolutionises home cleaning with its fully automated, multifunctional base station that manages routine tasks efficiently, providing a hands-free cleaning experience.

After completing its work, the L40 Ultra returns to its station, where it independently cleans the mops with 65-degree water and blow-dries them with warm air for two hours to prevent unpleasant odours. The washboard also cleans itself to avoid stain residue, with its optimised design preventing water pollution and increasing cleaning efficiency.

Users can choose from four temperature levels; normal, mild, warm, and hot via the Dreamehome app to optimise energy consumption. With a 3.2L dust bag and intelligent algorithms that ensure thorough emptying and reduced clogging, the L40 Ultra can operate for up to 75 days without manual intervention.

Thanks to its compatibility with the water mount kit, the L40 Ultra also enables fully automatic cleaning. Users can simply connect hoses to the water supply to refill clean water and drain dirty water, meaning the manual lifting, filling, and carrying of heavy water containers is now a thing of the past.

With Dreame’s innovative technology, the L40 Ultra can be easily controlled using voice commands or via connection to popular voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Home. This voice control capability allows users to enjoy a customised cleaning experience tailored to their needs.

Along with this, the L40 Ultra also has a three-year warranty that offers not only strong performance, but also a guarantee of reliability for a supreme, worry-free cleaning experience.
