The Blackberry Priv becomes more available. #BlackBerry #Priv.

The BlackBerry Priv, the first device running Android from BlackBerry has been talk of the town for some months now and impressions of the device are mostly good, one thing though that was an issue was the availability factor of the slider sporting a nice keyboard tucked under the hood..

The Priv can now be ordered from more countries from today which are The Netherlands, Italy and Spain.. Sadly no news for Ireland and it is highly unlikely at this stage we will not see it in retail just as the Passport,Leap and Cassic which can be bought sim free from Currys/PcWorld

We have been using the Priv some months now and to date its been a solid device and stands out from the crowd especially when you show off the keyboard hidden underneath…

Check out our unboxing and walk-through after the break..

To our readers not in Ireland here is the links you need,if you need any assistance and living in Ireland drop us a mail… For reviews and unboxings of the Passport /Silver Passport /Leap and Classic see related articles.

Blast from the past with #Nokia – The Nokia 1680 classic from 2008. #Unboxing

Our last lookback and some old Nokia devices was the 1800 from 2010 this goes back two more years to 2008,again featuring a coloured screen the 1680 classic was dubbed a feature phone and had little going for it compared to what you can get now for the same money, the colour screen though was the in thing back then and no matter how small the screen,we all wanted coloured screens…

The 1680 had similar options to the 1800 even with the 1800 two year older..A 1.85 inch screen, radio even a camera this time round albeit a VGA 0.3 MP,the 1680 even had internet via WAP and a staggering 11MB of internal memory with NO sd card option,so we had to be careful of storage…

Check out the unboxing and image gallery below…

Blast from the past with #Nokia – The Nokia 1800 from 2010. #Unboxing

A few Nokia devices landed at our office and these are untouched and have never been used so we decided to do a little feature, beginning with the Nokia 1800 which was announced late November 2009 and launched in 2010 and for a cheap small phone it had several features that sufficed many people back then,in fact the same suits many today,,

The 1800 was a feature phone with a colour display, stated as large on the packaging today you would laugh at that term considered how far we have come since then and how fast technology has changed and a small screen like this simply would not cut it for a main daily driver today..

The 1800 has features like a 1.8 inch screen with 114 ppi,and a radio,it had no camera,no sd card support and basically it was the colour screen that the 1800 had going for it…Ohhh and not forgetting it had a flash light which then was cool…

Check out the unboxing and image gallery below and watch out for more soon…

LG introduces the K Range to its line up. #LG #K7 #K10

LG have announced to mid tier devices and perhaps not what some where hoping for but looking for follow ups to the likes of the G4 and so on…However LG have turned a corner in the last two years and delivered some fantastic devices which shadows their former years, one thing though is availability and with Irish networks ignoring such devices we just have to rely on third party sellers and so on…

LG K Series smartphones will be the first to offer LG’s glossy pebble design language, a contemporary, stylish look with a curved, modern finish aimed at a younger audience. The glossy pebble design is complemented by LG’s new 2.5D Arc Glass for a smooth and seamless style that could only be made possible due to the sides of K Series smartphones being free of button clutter. Face Swap Live – A new fun app that swaps faces on iOS. #Apps

Most of us like to try out new apps and see whats new in the world of apps and daily we see something different and unique. From then on we see several attempts to copy these apps one at a time with some offering more or claiming to do so,true it is that there is some out there better than the first instalment but often the case they lack the same features too..

A new app called Face Swap Live is one such app which is quite cool and fun, sadly just on iOS for now and hopefully there will be an Android and Windows Phone option later on,this app is fun..

This app is not like others that use static photos to make small videos,we have seen this done several times, this app is different and uses your phones own camera and the fun begins..

To use the app…

1. Position: Don’t tilt or rotate your head, or move around too quickly.
( Make sure both faces are angled in the same way for better results )
2. Good lighting: Make sure your faces are not too dark, also avoid very bright lights coming from behind.
3. Brush back any hair that might be around your eyes.
4. Remove glasses if possible; large beards can also cause some shaking.

Face Swap Live lets you switch faces with a friend or a photo in real-time. Record videos or photos of yourself swapping faces with a celebrity, friend or any fun picture from the internet or your phone. Unlike other apps that only can use static photos, this app switches faces live right from your camera’s video feed. Ever wanted to see your talking face on Marilyn Monroe’s photo. Be amazed putting your moving mouth onto a pic of your favorite pet.

BlackBerry Passport Silver edition unboxing. #BlackBerry #Passport

The BlackBerry Passport was released last year and there was much talk about it,myself included found it rather an odd design and I gave it a scoff,This was one a few devices scoffed last year and some recommended ignoring a few devices which is just bad form and mainly trying to make a point, dont scoff something until you actually have held or used the product people…The older passport was one such device that had an interest in and I actually used it for longer that expected as a daily driver, typically I use two/three devices a day which is becoming rather cumbersome…

There is just mainly cosmetic changes to the silver edition and make it a worthy update which makes it more solid and pleasing to hold, the corners for example on the Original Passport where sharp, this is not the case here and the same applies to the surrounding housing which is chamfered and feels much better than the old.

Take a look at the image gallery and unboxing below and if you have any questions fire away….

You can see the Original Passport Unboxing HERE and our review of the same device HERE

Diet Scanners soon to be fitted to smartphones. #Food #Diet #Health #SCiO

Diet Scanners could soon be a standard on our smartphones and there is such a scanner now in development, this would be a welcome move and help us maintain an even healthier lifestyle with the ability to actually scan food items there and then..Sure there is plenty of apps around today to guide us on food but this would be a new step yielding real-time results. Currently it’s a standalone product..It works via a spectrometer and sends info to its cloud and then back to your device, the buck does not stop here with just health though the possibilities are endless and any object can be scanned..

Sky reports

The current model is able to pinpoint properties such as the sugar content in an individual piece of fruit, the percentage of fat in a particular cheese, or identify whether a drug is counterfeit or an illegal substance.

After a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and numerous demonstrations at technology conferences around the world, the SCiO scanner has become one of the most talked about new technologies of 2015.

Augmented reality hits Android Wear via Tilt. #Tilt #AR #Mobile

This is something rather new and perhaps a sign of whats to come and in its early stages looks quite cool, its a new Augmented reality game called Tilt which allows you to use your mobile phone and smartwatch to play a game on,this we came across last night..

The game does not have intensive graphics and looks retro but the idea is quite cool which allows you to move your wrist or device to play the game via its camera, the game itself is simple and you move the ball around by moving your device..

https://twitter.com/jimboireland/status/682301046614585345

The game is in its early stages and feedback is required to improve the game,Certainly looks interesting although one thing I noted was my device heated up rather quickly when trying it out..On testing I was using my Moto 360 and BlackBerry Priv.
