European technology leader Shelly Group is expanding its smart home and building automation ecosystem with intelligent video monitoring. The company’s new Shelly Camera is a compact indoor smart camera designed for modern homes, apartments, offices and small businesses looking for reliable monitoring, intelligent automations and greater control over personal data.
Rather than acting as a standalone camera, Shelly Camera is fully integrated into the Shelly ecosystem, working seamlessly with other Shelly devices to trigger automations, communicate across the platform and become part of everyday routines. Whether enhancing security, improving convenience or supporting smarter building management, Shelly Camera enables homes and commercial buildings to respond intelligently to what’s happening around them.
The device delivers Full HD 1080p video, providing clear, detailed images both day and night. It features a wide field of view of 110 degrees horizontally and 70 degrees vertically, allowing a single camera to cover most rooms. Black-and-white night vision enables users to monitor their home or business premises even in low-light conditions.
Intelligent monitoring and automation
Shelly Camera’s motion detection can be used to trigger automations across the Shelly ecosystem without requiring a Cloud subscription. For example, detected movement can be used to switch on lighting, activate a relay or initiate another predefined automation, helping users create responsive homes and buildings.
For users who want more advanced monitoring capabilities, Shelly Cloud adds intelligent object detection, enabling the camera to distinguish between people, pets and vehicles for more relevant event alerts and smarter monitoring.
The camera also supports local AI models, allowing advanced users to run their own AI models on compatible local hardware when creating bespoke automation scenarios and fully local smart home and building management systems.
Flexible viewing and storage – with no subscription required
Shelly Camera does not require a Cloud subscription to operate, giving users flexibility over how they view and store their camera footage. Users have three options: they can view the camera’s live stream without recording footage; record and store footage locally using a microSD card (not included); or use Shelly Cloud for cloud-based video storage.
For users choosing cloud storage, the Shelly Cloud Premium plan includes storage for one camera, with additional subscription packs available for three, six or ten cameras. Every Shelly Camera purchase also includes three months of Shelly Cloud at no additional cost, allowing users to experience the additional Cloud functionality before deciding whether a subscription is right for them. This combination of live viewing, local recording, optional cloud storage and local automation gives users the freedom to configure Shelly Camera around their own requirements rather than making an ongoing subscription essential to its operation.
Privacy, integrations and data control
Shelly Camera features dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth for quick setup and requires no additional hub. The camera supports MQTT, WebSocket and WebRTC, and is compatible with Home Assistant, Frigate NVR, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
As part of the Shelly ecosystem, the camera can use motion detection to trigger local automations without a Cloud subscription. For example, it can switch on pathway lighting when movement is detected, activate security routines outside business hours, or trigger lighting, relays and other Shelly devices. Because these automations can run locally, they respond quickly while giving users greater control over their smart home or building.
The device also features a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, making it ideal for speaking with children, elderly relatives, visitors or colleagues.
Thanks to its compact design, Shelly Camera can be placed on shelves and desks or mounted to a wall or ceiling. It is powered via USB-C, with a two-metre cable and mounting plate included in the box.
Designed for a wide range of applications
Beyond monitoring homes and holiday properties, Shelly Camera is equally suited to keeping an eye on pets and young children, securing entrances and garages, and monitoring offices, retail premises, storage areas and other small commercial environments.
Unlike conventional smart cameras that operate as standalone products, Shelly Camera is designed to become part of a wider automation ecosystem. Whether installed in a family home, office, retail premises or small commercial building, it enables users to move beyond simple video monitoring and create spaces that automatically respond to activity, improving convenience, security and operational efficiency.
“There are already many excellent smart cameras available today,” said Stamen Tasev, UK and Ireland Country Manager at Shelly Group. “We didn’t develop Shelly Camera simply to add another camera to the market. We developed it because monitoring becomes far more valuable when it’s connected to a wider automation ecosystem.
“What makes Shelly Camera different is what happens after it detects something. Rather than simply sending a notification to your phone, it works seamlessly with lighting, relays, sensors and other Shelly devices to automate everyday tasks across homes and commercial buildings. Whether it’s welcoming you home with lighting, activating security routines after hours or helping buildings operate more intelligently, Shelly Camera becomes another connected part of the Shelly ecosystem, making automation simpler, smarter and more accessible.

“Shelly Camera is the first product in a new area of innovation for Shelly, and we see significant opportunities to build on this foundation. We’ll continue expanding our intelligent monitoring portfolio through future hardware and software developments, while remaining focused on the open integrations, local control and powerful automations that define the Shelly ecosystem.”
Available in black and white, Shelly Camera comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Shelly Camera has an MRSP of £37.90 / €39.90 /$49.99 and includes three months of Shelly Cloud at no additional cost. No Cloud subscription is required to use the camera: users can view the live stream or record footage locally to a microSD card (not included), while Shelly Cloud provides an optional cloud storage solution.
It is available soon from Shelly.com and through Shelly’s network of authorised distributors and resellers.
