At first glance it resembles a compact body camera, but in reality it aims to be something far more ambitious – an AI-powered wearable companion designed to remember, organise and interpret parts of your day.

What makes the Looki L1 stand out is not the camera hardware itself but what happens afterwards. Waking up to AI-generated collages, daily summaries, comics and highlights based on activities from the previous day gives the device an element of surprise and excitement. There is a genuine sense of curiosity in seeing what the AI chooses as important moments and how it presents them.
During testing, the device generally performed well, capturing useful moments and providing interesting insights when asked about the day’s events. The ability to discuss your activities with the AI, retrieve memories, and generate shareable content from everyday experiences demonstrates the potential of this new category of wearable technology.
That said, the Looki L1 is not without its flaws. The AI occasionally produced inaccuracies, including sporting reminders for events that had already taken place. Response times during AI conversations could sometimes feel slow, and there are a few hardware niggles such as the non-breakaway lanyard, the colour mismatch between the charging cable and device, and the reliance on a proprietary docking connection for charging. Although the unit offers IP67 protection against water and dust, it is not designed for swimming, which may disappoint some outdoor users.
These issues, however, feel more like the growing pains of a young company rather than deal-breaking faults. Looki is attempting something genuinely different in a crowded technology market, and that ambition deserves recognition.
The Looki L1 will not be for everyone. Privacy-conscious users may need reassurance about wearing a device that resembles a body camera, particularly in public spaces, at concerts, or at events where recording devices may be restricted. However, content creators, frequent travellers, busy parents, AI enthusiasts and early adopters will likely find significant value in what the device offers.
Ultimately, the Looki L1 feels less like a finished destination and more like an exciting first step towards the next generation of AI-powered wearable technology. Despite a handful of minor frustrations, it delivers a fascinating glimpse into a future where AI doesn’t just answer questions but actively helps document, understand and enrich our lives.
