Nikon | RED extends Z CINEMA line with ZR full frame camera

Nikon | RED extends the Z CINEMA line with the addition of the ZR full-frame cinema camera. Built for filmmakers and creators on the move, the ZR is the lightest all-in-one cinema camera around and punches well above its weight in cinematic power.

From carefully staged scenes to run-and-gun video footage, the ZR is the perfect tool for storytellers who want to elevate their video output. Up to 6K/60p in-camera recording and a full suite of professional video recording formats provide the flexibility to deliver for practically any platform or workflow. Standout features include an exclusive R3D NE codec, which brings renowned RED colour science to Nikon. Plus, the ZR boasts a Dual Base ISO of 800/6400 which maintains the sensor’s 15+ stop dynamic range for maximum detail in highlights and shadows.

For agile set-ups, the ZR’s 4-inch Vari-angle monitor is a huge asset. The large, bright display functions as an expansive control hub and it covers the DCI-P3 colour gamut for accurate on-set colour monitoring. Since the picture is only half the story, the ZR also makes its mark as the first camera in the world1 to offer internal 32-bit float audio recording. The dynamic range of 32-bit audio is so vast that levels won’t need to be monitored constantly during filming: sound can be captured freely, and the levels adjusted in post without clipping.

Other professional ZR features include full weather sealing and vast lens choice thanks to compatibility with Nikon and third-party lenses. In addition, the ZR offers extensive system expandability, and Nikon’s new ME-D10 digital shotgun mic covers rich directional audio capture in a wide range of recording environments.

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Nikon Europe says: “Today, we’re raising the curtain on the first truly cinematic Nikon camera. Our collaboration with RED is bearing fruit, and the cinematic future looks bright!”

Summary of key features: ZR cinema camera

Large, bright 4-inch Vari-angle touchscreen monitor: covers the DCI-P3 colour gamut and boasts a generous 16:10 display format. Functions are controlled with soft, quiet screen taps, and up to 10 3D LUTs can be loaded into the camera for viewing on the monitor while filming.

Dual Base ISO of 800/6400: when shooting in Log3G10. The sensor’s wide 15+ stop dynamic range is maintained at both base ISOs.

In-camera 32-bit float audio recording: capture sound freely using the camera’s internal mics, or a compatible external mic, and adjust the levels in post without clipping.

Cinematic video modes and custom RED Picture Controls: 4 creative video modes and 9 custom RED presets for content with a cinematic look and feel straight out of the camera.

Fast, intelligent AF: quick, accurate, reliable, and customisable. Intelligent subject detection and tracking, custom wide-area AF, and selectable AF speeds for smooth, repeatable focus transitions.

Focus-breathing compensation: for smoother, more natural-looking transitions.

Long recording times: an innovative body design efficiently and quietly dissipates heat.

Light, tough: the ZR weighs approx. 540 g (body only) and is fully weather sealed.

Z mount for flexibility in lens choice: attach any Nikkor Z lens, any Nikon F-mount lens, and a wide range of third-party lenses.

Expandable: Nikon and partner brand accessories make it possible to put the ZR at the heart of an extensive video rig.

Buying LEDs Online? Why You Should Never Skimp on Expert Advice

It’s a familiar scene: you’re browsing online, looking for LED lighting for your home or business, and you spot what seems like an amazing deal. Prices are incredibly low, almost too good to be true. You see an unbranded bulb for a fraction of the cost of a well-known brand, and it’s tempting to think you’ve found a smart way to save money. But what if that bargain is just an illusion?

The illusion of a bargain – why cheap LEDs aren’t always a good deal

The truth is, a low price often hides a range of long-term costs that can quickly make that initial “saving” disappear. While the sticker shock of a high-quality product might give you pause, it’s worth considering what you’re actually getting. When you buy cheap, no-name LEDs, you’re not just buying a light bulb; you’re buying a gamble.

These low-cost alternatives often suffer from poor-quality components. This means they are far less likely to meet their advertised lifespan. Instead of lasting for years, they might fail in a matter of months, forcing you to buy replacements more frequently. This constant cycle of buying and replacing is not only a hassle but also adds up, eroding any initial savings.

Moreover, cheap LEDs can have inaccurate specifications. The light might not be as bright as promised, leading you to purchase more bulbs than you actually need, or it might consume more energy than advertised, resulting in higher electricity bills. Ultimately, what starts as a way to save a few dollars can turn into a drain on your finances and a source of frustration. Choosing a quality product from a reputable seller is a smarter investment in your home’s lighting and your wallet’s future.

5 critical factors to consider before you click “add to cart”

Finding a great deal online is exciting, but a smart shopper knows that the real value lies in the details. Before you get swept away by a low price, take a moment to understand what truly makes a quality LED. Here are five crucial factors that will help you make a choice you won’t regret.

1. CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) and CRI (Color Rendering Index)

These two factors are all about the quality of the light itself. CCT (color temperature), determines if your light is warm and cozy or cool and energetic. A low CCT (around 2700K) produces a warm, yellowish light perfect for a relaxing bedroom. A high CCT (around 5000K) creates a crisp, bluish-white light ideal for a home office or kitchen. CRI measures how accurately the light reveals the true colors of objects. A high CRI (90+) means your décor, food, and skin tones will look vibrant and true-to-life. A low CRI can make everything look dull or washed out.

2. Lumen output vs. Wattage

This is where a lot of people get confused. With old incandescent bulbs, you looked at wattage to know how bright the light would be. With LEDs, you need to look at lumens. Lumens are the direct measure of a light’s brightness. Wattage, on the other hand, tells you how much energy a bulb consumes. An energy-efficient LED will have a high lumen count for a low wattage. This is key for energy savings. For example, a 10W LED might produce the same brightness (lumens) as an old 60W bulb, saving you a significant amount on your electricity bill.

3. Beam angle

Beam angle refers to how wide or narrow the cone of light is. A narrow beam angle (around 20-40 degrees) is perfect for accent lighting, like highlighting a piece of art or a specific feature in a room. A wide beam angle (120 degrees or more) is what you want for general illumination, spreading light evenly across a whole space. Choosing the wrong beam angle can lead to either a poorly lit room or a spotlight effect where you don’t want it.

4. Dimming compatibility

If you plan to use a dimmer switch, you must choose dimmable LED lighting. Using a non-dimmable bulb with a dimmer can cause annoying flickering, buzzing, or even damage the bulb itself. Always check the product description for “dimmable” compatibility. Be aware that not all dimmers work with all dimmable LEDs, so it’s a good idea to check the specifications or ask an expert.

5. Quality and certifications

A quality LED is a lasting investment. Look for products from reputable brands that have proper certifications, such as CE and RoHS. These certifications are your assurance that the product meets high safety and quality standards and is free from hazardous materials. A certified product from a trusted supplier means you’re buying a safe, reliable, and durable light that will perform as promised.

Why expert advice is your best investment

You now understand the key technical details that go into choosing the right LED. But let’s be honest—navigating things like beam angles, CRI ratings, and dimming compatibility can be overwhelming. This is where seeking expert advice becomes your most valuable investment.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Review

The Google Pixel 10 Pro is one of their latest slew of devices on the market today and probably the best choice out of the lot though I yet to try the fold which some see as overpriced.

Regardless of that I have a Pixel phone as one of my daily drivers all year round coupled with the watch the earbuds and many other items at home and works a great ecosystem. AI though I think is where the Pixel 10 Pro shines this year with lots of extras on board alongside good cameras a UI experience and overall a smooth phone to use even for heavy multitaskers like me.

AI is a word we cant get away from these days however this is good and bad depending on how you use it and for photos it is excellent and with fixing images and giving you the best result and as they say the best camera you have is the one in your pocket.

Walkthrough of the Google Pixel 10 Pro

Magic Cue. The right info, right when you need it.

Magic Cue brings a new level of personalised intelligence and helpfulness to Pixel. It can help connect the dots across your digital life by anticipating your needs and proactively suggesting relevant information and helpful actions, based on the context on your phone.2 Calling your airline?

Magic Cue finds your flight details as soon as you dial. Friend asking for your Airbnb address? It automatically retrieves the info for quick sharing. Magic Cue is powered by our custom-built Google Tensor G5 chip, featuring cutting-edge, on-device AI that gives features the ability to process and understand relevant information and deliver helpful, proactive assistance.

Transform photos in the blink of AI.

The Pixel 10 series makes it effortless to capture an amazing photo every time, offering AI-powered features and magical editing tools in the Pixel Camera. The all-new Camera Coach, powered by Gemini models built right into the camera, can read the scene, offer you suggestions and help you find the best angle and lighting. It can even suggest the best modes to use, helping unleash the creative photographer in you. Asides photos in general AI in embedded in to the Pixel 10 pro and more or less system wide and Gemini is one feature I use quite often now and can be helpful in many ways which I use on my chromebook and Pixel devices

Design and Display

The Pixel 10 Pro has a similar design language to its predecessor, featuring the distinctive visor camera bar on the back. It’s polisheded finish with  spacecraft-grade aluminum frame and a silky matte glass back, all protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Buttons are tactile it does not rock on the table when flat like most phones today with big humps.

The Pixel 10 Pro has a  6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen with a dynamic refresh rate that can go from 1Hz all the way up to 120Hz. The peak brightness is said to reach an impressive 3300 nits, which would make it one of the brightest displays on the market, ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight.

Performance and AI

The biggest change under the hood is the new Tensor G5 chip which is major upgrade over the Tensor G4, promising faster CPU and GPU performance, which runs a bit more smoother, more responsive user experience for everything from everyday tasks to mobile gaming and as a poweruser of phones I seen no issues to date with what I do.

The Tensor G5 powers the  next-level AI features on which this phone is more or less selling point is enabling new features like “Magic Cue,” which proactively offers relevant information based on your apps and usage and also allows you to edit photos by telling the phone to do so.

Camera System

The Pixel 10 Pro camera array consists a 50MP wide lens, a 48MP ultrawide with Macro Focus, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The combination of hardware and the Tensor G5’s new Image Signal Processor (ISP) the suite of tools also on the Pixel 10 Prio is plenty for editing but check out the image and video gallery below for more and you deciide I found it much better this time round especially with night photography and video.

Photos and Videos taken with the Pixel 10 Pro

Final Thoughts

Overall the new Pixel 10 is a powerful tool for those wanting to engage in AI more and for me not a huge fan of the AI buzzword but it has me trying new things using the AI the cameras are great and overall I am impressed with what I have here and it will be staying put as my daily driver until the next model drops which I look forward too.
