IT.ie forecasts €1M revenue increase from ethical hacking service

IT.ie, the Irish-owned Managed IT Services company, today announces that it expects to generate an additional €1M in revenue through an automated testing service that imitates the movements of hackers to uncover and exploit cybersecurity weak spots within organisations.

The company’s new penetration testing as-a-service (PTaaS), also known as pen testing or ‘ethical hacking’, is an automated cyber security solution designed to fully replicate a hacker’s attack on an organisation, as it attempts to exploit and gain access to its network. This forewarns the organisation to the potential dangers before cybercriminals have an opportunity to exploit them, potentially preventing an attack.

Pen testing has emerged as a key solution for businesses with the growth and increased sophistication of cyberattacks in the modern business landscape. As threats develop at a previously unforeseen rate, regular, automated testing – which takes into account human oversight – is essential.

The new service provides an in-depth scan of the organisation’s network to identify vulnerabilities. It then exploits any vulnerabilities found by replicating the actions of a hacker via a diverse and sustained attack.

PTaaS is preferable to traditional pen testing, which typically only occurs once per year. It represents a significant upgrade on the previous method, which was less precise, more expensive, and more prone to human error. Monthly assessments, however, allow organisations to constantly evaluate and reinforce their systems, enabling them to protect themselves from emerging threats.

Significantly, regular pen testing also enables a reduction in business’ insurance premiums, representing long-term cost savings. As insurance premiums for businesses continue to rise, PTaaS can reduce the likelihood of needing to pay out a ransomware attack – along with the associated costs of a major cybersecurity incident – making them less of a risk to insurance companies.

The new service is being introduced at a time of significant growth for IT.ie. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to double its headcount to 50 people by the end of 2025 and increase annual revenue to €8M.

Wayne Morgan, CTO at IT.ie, said: “To stay ahead of hackers, we must think like them and view our defences as their points of attack. Manual penetration testing led the way for many years, highlighting vulnerabilities in our networks and systems. Identifying these issues internally gave us time and direction to apply remediation steps before falling victim to malicious intent.

“Although this is effective at the time it is carried out, it fails to account for the dynamic nature of cyber threats. Hackers don’t just knock on your door once; they are constantly there, looking for ways in. Automated monthly pen testing is the next generation approach and is a much more effective means of testing your network to highlight any potential weaknesses, helping you to keep hackers at bay. This new innovative service offers cost-effective, monthly assessments, reducing costs and helping achieve regulatory compliance.”

“At IT.ie, we are determined that we remain at the cutting edge of cybersecurity and provide our customers with the most up-to-date services available as we continue to grow, and this new solution adds to our armoury.”

How Chargeback Prevention Alerts Save Merchants Time and Money

Chargebacks can seriously damage your merchants and cause significant revenue losses, which is why chargeback prevention alerts are essential for businesses of all types and sizes. But what are chargeback protection systems, and how exactly do they save you time and money? Let’s try to answer this question together.

What Are Chargeback Prevention Alerts?

To understand what a chargeback prevention alert is, we need to give the definition of a chargeback first. So, a chargeback is the procedure of refunding a customer after a dispute. From the customer’s point of view, chargeback is a great service that protects customers’ funds. At the same time, disputes are not good for businesses, especially if they are fraudulent, since they often come with significant money losses and reputation damage. Thus, chargeback prevention alerts, like Verififi or Ethoca, are the tools aimed at preventing disputes at early stages and, therefore, protect your merchants, revenue, and reputation.

How Do Chargeback Prevention Alerts Work?

In general, most chargeback prevention alerts have a similar work algorithm, which is the following:

  • The issuer notifies the chargeback prevention alert about a dispute
  • A special alert is sent to the merchant
  • Merchant issues a refund to prevent the chargeback procedure
  • The issuer receives an outcome

Of course, this workflow is generalized, and most modern services have sophisticated alerts that do more than just refund customers before a dispute is issued. So, in the next paragraph, we will talk more about merchant chargeback prevention services and their benefits for businesses.

What Are the Benefits of Chargeback Prevention Alerts for Merchants?

It is needless to say, chargeback prevention alerts have plenty of benefits, so let’s talk about those in more detail.

  • Revenue losses prevention. As we have already mentioned above, disputes are costly, which leads to significant revenue losses, especially if we are talking about small businesses. Chargeback back prevention alerts help prevent unnecessary costs and therefore save you money.
  • Penalty reduction. Not only do disputes require you to refund a customer, but also come with penalties, which often are pretty high. Luckily, high-quality alerts will protect you against chargeback and, therefore, penalties.
  • Time saving. It is a known fact that chargeback prevention systems save a lot of time on processing and resolving dispute requests, which is also a great benefit.
  • Approval rate growth. You probably already know that a high approval rate is important for smooth payment processing as well as the security of your merchants. Chargeback prevention alerts help significantly increase your approval rate.
  • Improved reputation. The fewer disputes you have — the better your reputation is, which is a pretty obvious benefit of most chargeback protection systems.

Of course, the most significant benefit for most businesses is definitely revenue losses prevention since business is all about making money. At the same time, all the benefits we mentioned above are pretty significant, which makes chargeback prevention alerts worth your attention.

Chargeback Costs and How Do Alerts Save Money?

As we have already mentioned above, chargebacks are costly, but just how much? Well, except for the product or service refund fee (which might also be a problem if you provided a service or sold a product that cannot be returned and resold), there are also many chargeback fees. In particular, depending on the merchant’s agreement with their acquirer, a dispute fee might vary from $20 to $100 for a single chargeback request. That price includes transaction costs, operational fees, as well as marketing and acquisition expenses. For example, let’s say you sold a product that costs $100, and a customer requested a chargeback. If you do not have any prevention alerts, you will pay for the following:

  • Transaction value: $100
  • Transaction fee (usually 4%): $4
  • Product costs (usually 23%): $23
  • Marketing expenses (about 35%): $35
  • Operational costs (20%): $20
  • Chargeback fee: $25
  • Total: $207

So, basically, because of a chargeback, a $100 purchase will cost you twice as much. Moreover, you might also get pretty costly fines and penalties if you have too many disputes. Fortunately, chargeback prevention alerts can significantly reduce this cost since most systems prevent disputes and refund customers before a chargeback procedure is started. In other words, you will only lose the product or service value. Additionally, if the product is returned and can be resold, you won’t lose a penny. That’s pretty much how alerts save your money and protect businesses from financial losses.

What Chargeback Protection Services to Choose?

There are dozens of chargeback prevention alerts available on the market today, but some of them are worth your attention more than others. So, let’s take a brief look at the top three chargeback prevention alerts for businesses of all types and sizes.

  • Verifi. It is a chargeback prevention alert developed by Visa, which makes it perfect for Visa transactions (though it is compatible with other transactions, too). Verifi offers a wide variety of useful features, such as Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR), Order Insight, CRDN, Compelling Evidence 3.0, and more. Such functionality provides transaction security and reliable chargeback protection that will save you money and protect the reputation of your business, and you can have all of that within Gemius CRM.
  • Ethoca. This dispute prevention service is also an efficient tool for preventing chargebacks, especially for Mastercard payments. Ethoca is a great way to eliminate chargebacks as well as protect your merchants from fraud thanks to its Fraud Insights feature that provides merchants with all the info about declines and disputes. The good news is that you can get Ethoca easily and completely stress-free within Germius.
  • Kount. Last but not least, Kount is one of the market leaders that will provide AI chargeback prevention solutions and automated fraud protection for your merchants. Though this service is pretty expensive, it is reliable and definitely won’t let you down.

These were the leaders that are surely worth your attention and, most importantly, money, so pick one of those and won’t go wrong.

Wrapping Up

Chargeback prevention is essential for businesses of all types and sizes since it does help reduce revenue losses. So, no matter if you have a small handmade pottery online store or a large corporation, chargeback protection is something you simply cannot neglect.

Tech Review – emporia ME6 smartphone

The emporia ME6 smartphone is one with two faces you could say with more thrown in for those who want to keep things simple and play it up with just the normal Android skin.

emporia is known for their simple phones and with last year having their first full fledged smartphone so to speak the SMART 6 but still keeping it easy with this one you can pick which way you want to go and gear up for the full experience when confident enough too even the convoluted sub menus Android has to offer.

It is like any other smartphone when it comes to the specs for their price point which in this instance is very good after testing out and seeing it at launch so I will not bore you to tears with specs etc that are listed below and a detailed video walkthrough so you can see what you are getting into.

The build quality is excellent here in my view and looks more premium than one would expect with nice soft edges that do not dig into your palm and a nice camera array set-up on the rear and prying eyes will be asking questions especially with the red circled heart icon on the rear which we are custom to with emporia devices and that is the panic button that can be remapped to take photos if you wish you can also use it for a torch silent mode or have it do nothing. The camera set-up is just nice anyway and not a huge hump we tend to see to much of today and is annoying now.

You now have an information center on board too which keeps all in one place similarly to your standard phone today but kept simple however this is only on simple mode. There is talkback mode which reads all actions done on device which is really handy. You can see more in the video below on how to switch between modes and it is simple and a key feature thanks to that little man in the corner that I labelled.

Ok so daily tasks then, this phone performs rather well not that the target market would have the phone loaded to the hilt like me but I loaded it and it done as any other phone has done so there is plenty of power under the hood should you happen to have a lot going on like me which is OTT for most daily users.

The screen is vibrant by the way and excellent for media consumption and you have biometric options with face or fingerprint unlock which both worked well you also have audio description to let you know what is going on in supported movies and shows.

Multitasking is fine doing your social and emails is fine and any other taxing applications you might have on the go.

The camera is decent too even with low light shots it is not the best in the world of what you would expect from a 1000 euro plus phone It did a decent job with excellent audio on recording too again you can decide with the samples below.

If you like music well this phone has a trick up its sleeve too and the audio experince is excellent and helped me out alot when testing other product the last few weeks it also has a super voice input option for recording text and ASHA support which means you can stream audio directly into the hearing aids via LE bluetooth.

Overall this is a decent mid range phone for someone who wants that bit more but there is much more under the skin here packed with features for those with some difficulties and certainly something they need in their life.

Key use case scenarios

1) The user makes the decision: clear, easy user interface or conventional Android mode.  The emporiaME.6 starts up in the familiar Android mode by default. The mobile phone can be switched to the clear, reduced easy mode with just two presses. Or straight back again. It is a conscious decision that YOU make.

2) The Info Centre, which is only available in simple mode.  This is where all notifications come together in one place. Whether it’s a missed call, new email, WhatsApp message or a notification from Facebook Messenger, you can keep an eye on everything here.

3) The external, directly accessible panic button. Press firmly once and help is automatically called. Good to know if you’re walking home alone at night, for example. Or if you are planning a lonely mountain tour. 360 hours (15 days!) of standby time should be enough even in this case.

Normal and easy modes on the emporia ME6

Features

  • 5G smartphone, 6.58-inch touchscreen
  • Physical panic button with 999 / Quick-key
  • Triple-lens 50+2+TOF-MP back camera
  • 8 MP selfie camera
  • Fingerprint sensor for biometric identification
  • NFC for contactless payments

How a female-founded Wexford brand uses TikTok digital platform to destigmatise periods

Jessie Bennett, launched Monthlies Organics over the pandemic. Her company allows those who menstruate to order period products to suit their own experience and flow, rather than being forced to bulk buy lots of different products that they may not use regularly and waste.
Based in Wexford and with a base in London, Jessie spotted a gap in the market for young women who were re-entering the workplace, school or college and needed to prepare for their period while they were outside of the home.
But for many new companies, adding TikTok to their marketing credentials is yet another thing on a long to-do list.
To help, TikTok has teamed up with small business support platform Enterprise Nation to unlock its powerful digital community to help small businesses fly.
The partnership will deliver a curated new email marketing course that will take founders through step-by-step access so they can harness TikTok’s vast potential when it comes to marketing a brand and building a community.
TikTok Takeoff will include access to a group of like-minded small business owners and successful creators to help businesses create content that will get their brand noticed as well as tips from Isobel Perl whose business Perl Cosmetics has 281k followers on TikTok.
Emma Jones, CBE, founder of Enterprise Nation, which launched in Ireland last month, said: “Small business owners are busy people and many may feel like exploring a new social media platform might be yet another thing on a long to-do list.
“This course and experience demonstrates that unlocking the power of TikTok can be transformative and for brands looking to find new inclusive communities and real allies in the business world. TikTok is brilliant at showing the human face behind the business, and people buy from people – so it makes perfect sense.”
Jessie uses TikTok regularly and believes it has massively increased brand awareness in the right demographic for her brand. She said: “I wanted to help people who period destigmatize periods and create an open dialogue so it’s OK to discuss issues around periods and products. I noticed in particular that menstruators returning to school needed a kit to put in their locker that had everything they would need for every stage of their period.
Jessie Bennett
“Over lockdown I had time to do some research and found so many of these products contained plastic and chemicals and were awful for the environment. I recognised that while periods and period products were nothing new, the way we consume them could be dramatically improved.”
Jessie, who has a background in social media, also recognised that TikTok was a really good platform for her brand, because it allowed her to share her own journey and be honest about her own experiences.
She said: “Sell, sell, sell doesn’t fly anymore. Brand awareness is king.”
Jessie’s top tips:
  • Show them your journey as a founder
  • Create educative content
  • It doesn’t matter how old you are or what background you’re from, people love to see it
  • Keep it joyful – most TikTok users are supportive and will get involved.

UI and Walkthrough

Meet HMD Skyline: designed for creation

Tech innovator, Human Mobile Devices (HMD), spearheaded the dumbphone trend by reimagining feature phone classics for the modern day as consumers sought to limit their screen time for their own mental wellbeing. The European phone manufacturer then called time on hard-to-maintain and fix technology by introducing smartphones that can easily be repaired.

Now, the tech disruptor brings you the affordable HMD Skyline, which marries detox and repairability as well as a camera packed full of tricks – including a 108MP hybrid OIS triple rear camera. With the all-new Capture Fusion, 4 x Zoom and Portrait Mode for stunning 50mm shots with natural bokeh effect.  Detox Mode is available from August and brings a dumbphone function to a smartphone – it is designed to help users when they want to step away from that always on feeling by deactivating a bespoke selection of apps or contacts.

HMD Skyline also debuts a new era for smartphone design called Gen2 Repairability; your friendly service centre can simply pop off the back cover, remove some screws, and get that screen replaced nice and quickly.

In testament to its super-powerful photo capabilities, Human Mobile Devices has turned to Gen Z superstar snapper Rosanna Elettra to test drive the new HMD Skyline, capturing ten striking images shot and edited entirely on HMD Skyline following a group of Gen Z fashionistas on a night out.

Celebrity photographer Rosanna Elettra took the HMD Skyline for a test drive, she commented: “I’ve had the joy of capturing acclaimed artists like Rhianna, Central Lee, Aitch and Cara Delevingne. HMD Skyline is Gen Z’s dream device, so I wanted to show the phone in its natural habitat, in scenes dripping in Gen Z culture. I’m used to shooting celebrities, but I loved turning the camera on Human Mobile Device’s latest launch and taking its super impressive camera for a test drive. The shots – all taken on the phone – are super cool, stylish and have main character energy – just like Skyline.”

Lars Silberbauer, Global CMO of Human Mobile Devices, said; “Human Mobile Devices is human by design…and that’s what we’ve done with HMD Skyline, put consumers first. There are so many great functions on this phone to call out. The camera is a creator’s dream, a step-changing detox mode too. And it looks absolutely beautiful.”

Celebrity photographer, Rosanna Elettra, said: “HMD Skyline is Gen Z’s dream device, so I wanted to show the phone in its natural habitat, in scenes dripping in Gen Z culture. I’m used to shooting celebrities, but I loved turning the camera on Human Mobile Device’s latest launch and taking its super impressive camera for a test drive. The shots – all taken on the phone – are super cool, stylish and have main character energy – just like Skyline.”

Your shots are about to take off: snap, selfie-check, and socialise (in ultrawide)

Skyline has been built with a progressive GenZ audience firmly in mind so the camera capabilities are stand-out and seemingly endless. The 50MP front camera comes with autofocus and eye-tracking to ensure the sharpest of selfies, and with Skyline, creators don’t even need to press a button or set a timer to take a picture. The device comes with in-built ‘selfie gesture’ hardware, which means all users have to do is to look at the phone while making the universal peace sign (or one of three other hand signs) to activate the camera. You can also create video selfies in 4k when this feature arrives in August.

The 108MP Hybrid OIS triple rear camera is equally impressive. This camera really is ready for any shot, portrait mode allows for stunning 50mm shots with beautiful natural bokeh effect and crisp close-ups can be achieved with the x4 zoom function. Night Mode 3.0 balances exposure and preserves detail and stunning scenery and group shots can be captured using the 0.5x ultra-wide mode and there’s AI Capture Fusion too to add maximum detail to zoom images.

A smartphone with dumbphone functionality: Detox Mode shuts down your socials

And the good news just keeps on coming. From August, the super-slick smartphone for the ages will come with a powerful new in-built Detox Mode with bespoke app and contact blocking, allowing users to tailor their detox to their needs, focus on the real world and enjoy a balanced smartphone experience whenever they need a break from the digital world

With the digital detox movement continuing to gather pace, particularly among Gen-Z, it is a timely technological advance that stands above competitors detox functions which usually only silence apps and notifications.

The cherries on top

HMD Skyline’s battery has up to 48 hours per charge, and you can charge wirelessly with any magnetized Qi2 charger. The battery stays in great shape for hundreds of charges, and has been tested by Human Mobile Devices to maintain at least 80% of its original capacity after 800 full charging cycles. 3 And if it ever does need replacing, you can gain easy access thanks to its unique repairable design.

Thanks to its display and sound specs, Skyline is a fantastic device for entertainment. Everything from short reels to high-end games will get the color and clarity they deserve with the bright poled display, boasting a 144 Hz refresh rate and HDR10 video playback, and they’ll sound ace with the stereo speakers. At the heart of it all is a Snapdragon® 7s Gen 2 chipset, made for high performance and smooth multitasking.

You can make your HMD Skyline even more “you” with the Custom Button. Users can set it up to do one thing when they hold the button down, and another when they double press it. It’s your personal shortcut to your favourite game, navigating home, asking the AI-powered assistant of your choice burning life questions, and more.

Skyline launches in two distinct colourways, neon pink and twisted black it is available now at hmd.com/ie and in-store in August for €499

Revolutionary treatment transformative for Irish clinics

A LEADING podiatrist and business owner who has completed nearly 1000 treatments using a revolutionary new medical device has hailed its potential as the future of treating painful skin lesions.
Having adopted Emblation’s Swift® device, Dublin-based podiatrist Joseph Egan revealed that it has become the most effective form of treatment in his three clinics across Ireland.
Designed by global medical microwave leader Emblation, Swift is an innovative form of treatment that uses targeted bursts of microwaves to treat warts and verrucae.
Joseph, who is the owner and director of MyFeet, explained that he was convinced to implement the device into his clinic after seeing promising research on its results – and has since reaped the benefits of its highly effective treatment.
Joseph said: “We are seeing hugely positive results for patients across our clinics. I’ve been really impressed with how effective treatment with the device has been.
“When you compare this against more traditional forms of treatment such as cryotherapy or treating with salicylic acid, the difference is night and day.
“For us, it’s been a positive step change, leading to a much easier process. Using Swift means we don’t have to provide protective padding or dressings and they don’t need regularly changed.
“Additionally, patients aren’t having to go through persistent pain every week that they otherwise would if they went down other routes like cryotherapy, acid or invasive surgery.”
Unlike other traditional treatments, Swift utilises revolutionary microwave technology, targeting the tissue with a highly controlled dose of energy, with research showing that the treatment has an efficacy rate of up to 86.4% on verrucae.
Over 345,000 treatments have been performed across the world and the innovative microwave technology is undergoing trials as a treatment for conditions such as fungal nail, facial acne and melanoma.
Speaking about the future of treatments, Joseph added: “In my opinion Swift is currently the most effective form of treatment clinicians can provide for their patients when it comes to warts and verrucae.
“The research is what convinced us to start using it and it’s been an excellent decision from both a patient care and business standpoint and we’ve not looked back since.
“From a business perspective, we recouped what we paid for the device in three to four months, which is a massive bonus. From the get-go, we’ve wanted to improve our treatments for customers and Swift® has managed to do that – almost instantly.”
Emblation founders Gary Beale and Eamon McErlean, who first crossed paths during their postgraduate studies at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, jointly established the company.
Speaking on Joseph’s feedback, Chief Commercial Officer, Jonathan Williams said: “It’s obviously incredibly encouraging and motivating to hear such positive feedback about Swift.
“The treatment has proved to be a real game changer when it comes to patients’ quality of life, and we’re still very early into our journey in Ireland. We’re happy Swift® has had such an impact for Joseph and most importantly his patients and we can’t wait to continue to grow Swift’s presence across the country.”
In 2021, the firm experienced a significant injection of capital when Apposite Capital, a London-based specialist in healthcare, invested an eight-figure sum.
This financial boost propelled the firm’s rapid global expansion, resulting in the acquisition of a distribution company to form Emblation Inc.
This financial injection also paved the way for the establishment of new Emblation subsidiaries in Canada and Germany, in addition to their expansion into more than 20 other countries.
This financial boost tripled the company’s workforce necessitating larger office space. Emblation has now moved into their state-of-the-art headquarters £4m headquarters in Stirling.
