Dell Technologies expands Edge manufacturing solutions with Hyundai AutoEver and Intel

Dell Technologies has announced the expansion of its edge partner ecosystem with Hyundai AutoEver and Intel to help manufacturers derive more value from their edge data with AI.

These initiatives underscore Dell’s commitment to leveraging edge data for transformative business outcomes in the manufacturing sector.

To ease manufacturers’ transition to an AI-enhanced factory, Dell is introducing updates to the Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge with the integration of Hyundai AutoEver.

This integration will enable real-time data analysis and AI-driven optimisations, empowering plant managers to enhance equipment performance, predict maintenance needs, and increase productivity.

The Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge is now supported by NativeEdge, Dell’s edge operations software platform. Manufacturers can simplify infrastructure deployments, manage multiple applications on the factory floor and scale infrastructure and applications quickly, while maintaining factory security.

This comes as the IDC expects AI will drive major growth in edge computing spend over the coming years, with worldwide edge computing spend expected to reach $232 billion in 2024, an increase of 15.4% over 2023.

Speaking about the expansion of Dell’s manufacturing edge solutions, Pierluca Chiodelli, Vice President Engineering Technology at Dell Technologies said “Artificial Intelligence is poised to transform how quickly and accurately edge data can be collected, analysed, and acted upon.

Dell Technologies is expanding its edge partner ecosystem with Hyundai AutoEver and Intel to help manufacturers derive more value from their edge data with AI. These collaborations highlight a pivotal role played by the Dell edge ecosystem in providing customers the latest technologies to harness the power of their edge data.”

Dell is also introducing enhancements to Dell NativeEdge Blueprints using Intel’s OpenVINO Developer Toolbox. The integration provides businesses with more flexibility and choice for the deployment and management of AI and machine learning applications at the edge.

Simplified orchestration and management of edge computing resources provide seamless and secure application deployment on Intel-based hardware. Optimized AI inferencing offers real-time insights and improved operational efficiency for businesses.

“By integrating OpenVino Developer Toolbox into NativeEdge Blueprints, we are empowering businesses to unlock the full potential of AI at the edge, optimizing operations and paving the way for new, intelligent applications.

This is a game-changer for industries worldwide, accelerating the path towards a smarter, more connected future,” said Muneyb Minhazuddin, vice president and general manager, NEX compute and edge AI software, Intel.

Mobile data usage surges during weekend events in Ireland

eir, Ireland’s leading telecommunications company, announced a milestone that they carried over 50 terabytes (TB) of data across its event mobile sites last weekend as a series of high-profile events took place across Ireland.

From the excitement of the Longitude Festival to the spectacular Taylor Swift at the Aviva and Shania Twain concerts at Malahide, the vibrant Dublin Pride Parade, the family-friendly Kaleidoscope Festival, and the iconic matches at Croke Park, eir’s network delivered seamless connectivity to thousands of customers.

To put this achievement in perspective, 50 TB of data is the equivalent of streaming 50,000 hours of video, which translates to non-stop watching for over five years.

On Sunday night, during Taylor Swift’s concert, twice as much data was carried over the eir mobile network compared to the Six Nations decider at the Aviva Stadium on March 16th, both of which were sold-out events. This highlights the significant difference in mobile data usage between Swifties and rugby fans.

Additionally, the data usage during the Taylor Swift concert was double that of the FAI Cup final in November and triple that of the Leinster versus Munster game in the same month. The surge in data usage was primarily driven by extensive video recording, sharing, and live streaming activities.

Fergal McCann, Chief Technology Officer at eir, commented on this achievement, stating, “The deployment of 5G technology and the addition of new mobile sites across the country have been crucial in handling the surge in data usage during these events. The Taylor Swift concerts alone showcased significant usage patterns, with fans live streaming and sharing their experiences. Compared to other major events like Six Nations games, the data usage was exceptionally high, demonstrating the growing demand for robust and reliable mobile connectivity.”

Ruth McGuinness wins Microsoft Power Women Award 2024

Microsoft has revealed that Ruth McGuinness, Head of Data and AI at Kainos, headquartered in Belfast has won the Microsoft Power Women Award 2024 in Ireland.

The Microsoft Power Women Awards are part of Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to inspire, promote and invest in a new generation of women tech talent. The awards shine a spotlight on some of the amazing women spearheading greater diversity and inclusion throughout the Microsoft Partner network.

In the second year of the awards, the programme expanded its reach covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with nearly 400 applications from exceptional women who have made significant contributions to technology, and diversity and inclusion.

McGuinness is a prominent leader in the field of AI, overseeing one of Ireland’s largest AI teams with 150 members generating millions of pounds annually through delivery of AI technology programmes in both public and private sector organisations across Ireland, the UK, Europe, and North America. Her focus includes developing AI tooling that is robust, explainable, and trustworthy and advocating for ethical AI adoption.

Passionate about bridging the gap between academic research and industry, McGuinness is also the primary industry partner of the AI Research Centre (AIRC) at Ulster University, supporting 100+ AI researchers in trusted AI applications. She also supports the development of more diverse AI talent as a curator of AI CON, Ireland’s largest annual AI conference, while being a strong advocate for the robust regulation of AI across other public forums, both local and international.

Accepting the award, Ruth McGuinness said, “I’m very grateful to Microsoft Ireland for honouring me with this prestigious award. It is humbling to be included among such an incredible and inspiring cohort of powerhouse women in the Microsoft ecosystem across Western Europe.

“I also welcome the opportunity of accepting an award for my career during a period of extended maternity leave with my second child – it’s great to see how much progress has been made in terms of gender equity despite how much more we need to achieve!

“Women face a multitude of barriers when trying to have children and a career. While we know that only 26% of technology roles are held by women, further data shows that women often then depart those technology careers at this important stage in their lives, due to inadequate parental leave benefits, expensive childcare systems and a lack of access to good quality flexible working.

“The IT industry needs to continue to do more, to not only attract, but also to retain young women, through ensuring job roles come with an inclusive culture, flexible working hours, flexible roles, equity and fairness.

“I feel passionately about the mantra that “you can’t be what you can’t see” and believe that elevating diverse role models for women – such as through Microsoft’s Power Women Award – plays an incredibly important role in empowering others coming into the industry” – said Ruth McGuinness, Head of Data and AI at Kainos.

McGuinness will join the other 18 winners at the Microsoft Women’s Leadership Program 2nd Edition, a customised programme developed by Professor Jennifer Petriglieri at the INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau, France.

Tech Review – JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds

The JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds are their latest on offer moving up from the JBL Tour Pro 2 with similar features and looks which unfortunately I never tested but from the getgo I was intrigued by being able to control your music from your earbuds case and how well it would work but these can offer more than one would expect after testing them out now for a few weeks. You can see a detailed first look here.

The presentation is as always excellent and identifiable easily in a store or online and the overall package pretty cool putting up as one of my favourite earbuds case this year so far and that is due to what can be done and how you can use the case and I am pretty sure others will follow in time which in fact some chinese manufacturers have done so with rampant ads on Facebook with a really cheap price so be warned, they most likely will be brutal and cheap knock offs some even using the JBL logo and trying to hide it, yes we seen you….

So the case is excellent and the earbuds are on the small side with small stems LED lights and magnetic points to stay put in your case with subtle branding on the outside of the stem, colour dependent this may stand out more but not in your face.

Of course you get the JBL app to set up the earbuds and you can use the case to do so too however once set up via the app I find you will no linger need to go near the earbuds you can even get message notifications on the earbuds case which is handy and this is also a neat way to keep you away from your phone giving you a little taste of some detox which is not a bad idea. The notifications are not rich however still it is a great idea.

email notification on the JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds case – techbuzzireland

Onto the sound as we go into detail on the case in the video review below and overall it is as you would expect from the brand with their custom sounds and app access you are in control not only from your phone but from the case, with their 10mm drivers highs lows and mids all fine nice bass and after going through my test look everything did really well you can customize the sound to your own needs which is vital on a pair of earbuds an no issues for me no lag latency or tinny sound when maxed out which is how I like listening to my music and movies etc.

Some might find the case as a gimmick however I found myself using it all the time and with some travel I have done I have brought them with me and will be doing so on upcoming tech trips very soon so watch out for some new cool tech coming soon here on the site and YouTube.

Battery life is also solid and you have an IP55 rating and with your ANC and really good ambient sound on tap these certainly should be on your radar and not overpriced either compared to the benchmark offerings from Apple.

PayPal study: SME owners in Ireland are prioritising tech investments to drive growth

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ireland that sell online appear to be experiencing a growth period, with 96 per cent seeing an increase in online sales over the past 12 months. A similar proportion (95%) are feeling optimistic about the growth of their business over the next year.

PayPal’s 2024 ‘Business of Change Report’* revealed that on average, SMEs selling their products or services in international markets generated €240,605 in the last 12 months. Those surveyed that don’t currently sell internationally, but are planning to do so in the future, estimated that the move would generate €122,728 annually for their business.

Cross border trade a catalyst for growth

Further exploration into the prevalence of international commerce uncovered that half (50%) of SMEs in Ireland are presently engaged in international sales, with an additional 30 per cent intending to do so within the next year. Among those already selling internationally, 77 per cent have experienced a surge in international sales volume over the past three years.

The primary impetus behind international expansion is the belief that Ireland is strategically positioned to seize opportunities in global markets (41%). However, a significant 31 per cent of those surveyed indicated that their survival hinges on international expansion.

Not surprisingly, 34 per cent of SME owners prioritise delivering an improved customer experience as a crucial factor for business expansion—second only to providing high-quality products or services, which garnered 38 per cent. Rounding out the top five priorities were adopting emerging technologies, utilising online marketplaces, and ensuring affordability of products or services, each at 32 per cent.

Concerns and challenges

While there is a general feeling of optimism, almost a quarter of SME owners (23%) cited poor purchasing processes for customers as a top barrier to future business growth. Meanwhile, more than a fifth (22%) identified that they lack the skills or resources to fully leverage online platforms.

As well as internal factors, external trends most impacting SMEs in Ireland that sell online are:

  • A rising demand for more payment methods (such as buy now pay later and digital wallets like PayPal) – 40%
  • More people wanting discounts, promotions and deals – 38%
  • Customers wanting more convenience (such as click and collect, and package tracking) – 37%
  • Three in 10 (30%) are concerned with the trend that fewer people are converting at checkout – more browsers than buyers.

SMEs prioritise tech investments for future growth, eyeing AI, VR experiences

Looking forward, the vast majority (92%) of SME owners prioritise technology investment for their business’s future growth. Nearly a quarter (23%) desire to allocate resources to Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, while 21 per cent plan to invest in Virtual Reality experiences.

Regarding specific areas earmarked for investment within the next year to bolster expansion, 38 per cent plan to prioritise enhancing their online presence. Following closely are investments in marketing (33%), additional shipping/delivery capabilities (32%), team expansion (32%), and social commerce (31%).

Moreover, 27 per cent intend to invest in ecommerce capabilities, with secure payment methods and international sales processes on the agenda for 26 per cent of SME owners surveyed.

Jonas Breding, General Manager, PayPal Northern Europe shared, “For over twenty years, we’ve been a trusted partner for Irish entrepreneurs and ecommerce businesses. We recently launched PayPal Complete Payments, our most advanced offering in the market. Our comprehensive solution fosters growth, provides advanced fraud protection, and streamlines cross-border trade, empowering entrepreneurs to thrive.”

Keeping Your Business Running Smoothly: 7 Key Benefits of Outsourcing IT Management

In today’s digital age, technology is the backbone of almost every business. From keeping customer data secure to ensuring smooth network operation, a robust IT infrastructure is crucial for success. However, managing this infrastructure in-house can be a complex and demanding task, especially for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). This is where outsourcing IT management comes in.

What is IT Management Outsourcing?

IT management outsourcing involves delegating the responsibility of overseeing your company’s IT infrastructure to a qualified external provider. This provider, often referred to as a Managed Service Provider (MSP), becomes your trusted partner, handling everything from network maintenance and security to user support and disaster recovery planning.

Why Outsource IT Management?

There are numerous compelling reasons why businesses of all sizes are increasingly turning to outsourced IT management solutions. Here’s a closer look at the key benefits:

  1. Cost Efficiency and Predictable Expenses

One of the primary benefits of outsourcing IT management is cost efficiency. Maintaining an in-house IT department can be expensive, involving costs related to salaries, benefits, training, and equipment. By outsourcing, businesses can convert fixed IT costs into variable costs, allowing them to budget more effectively. This model also provides predictable monthly expenses, helping organizations manage their finances better.

Outsourcing eliminates the need for significant capital investments in IT infrastructure. Instead, businesses can leverage the infrastructure and resources of the outsourcing provider. This approach not only reduces costs but also ensures access to the latest technology without the burden of ongoing upgrades and maintenance.

  1. Access to Expertise and Advanced Technology

Outsourcing IT management provides businesses with access to a pool of experienced professionals with specialized skills. These experts stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and industry best practices, ensuring that your IT infrastructure is managed efficiently and effectively. This level of expertise is often difficult and costly to maintain in-house.

Moreover, outsourcing providers invest in state-of-the-art technology and tools to deliver their services. By partnering with a reputable provider, businesses can benefit from advanced technologies without the need for significant upfront investments. This access to cutting-edge solutions enhances operational efficiency and competitiveness.

  1. Focus on Core Business Activities

Managing IT infrastructure can be time-consuming and distracts from core business activities. By outsourcing IT management, businesses can free up valuable time and resources, allowing them to focus on their primary objectives and strategic initiatives. This shift in focus enables companies to enhance productivity, innovation, and overall performance.

Outsourcing IT management also reduces the burden on internal staff, who may be stretched thin trying to handle IT issues alongside their regular responsibilities. With IT management in the hands of experts, internal teams can concentrate on their core tasks, leading to improved efficiency and job satisfaction.

  1. Enhanced Security and Compliance

In the digital age, cybersecurity is a top concern for businesses of all sizes. Data breaches and cyberattacks can have devastating consequences, including financial losses and damage to reputation. Outsourcing IT management to a specialized provider ensures that your IT systems are protected by robust security measures and monitored around the clock.

Outsourcing providers implement stringent security protocols, conduct regular security audits, and stay informed about emerging threats. This proactive approach minimizes the risk of cyberattacks and ensures that your data is secure. Additionally, outsourcing providers are well-versed in industry regulations and compliance requirements, helping your business adhere to legal and regulatory standards.

  1. Scalability and Flexibility

Business needs and technological requirements can change rapidly. Outsourcing IT management offers the flexibility to scale services up or down based on your organization’s needs. Whether you’re expanding your operations, launching new projects, or experiencing seasonal fluctuations, outsourcing providers can adjust their services to meet your demands.

This scalability eliminates the need for businesses to invest in additional resources or infrastructure during peak times. It also ensures that IT support is available when needed, without the delays associated with hiring and training new staff. The ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances gives businesses a competitive edge in today’s dynamic market.

  1. Improved Uptime and Reliability

Downtime can be costly for businesses, leading to lost revenue, decreased productivity, and frustrated customers. Outsourcing IT management to a reputable provider ensures that your IT systems are monitored and maintained for optimal performance. Providers offer proactive maintenance, regular updates, and prompt troubleshooting to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operations.

Many outsourcing providers offer service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee specific performance metrics, such as uptime and response times. These agreements provide peace of mind, knowing that your IT systems are managed by professionals committed to maintaining high levels of reliability and availability.

  1. Access to a Broader Range of Services

Outsourcing IT management provides businesses with access to a comprehensive range of services that may be difficult to achieve in-house. These services can include network management, cloud computing, data backup and recovery, cybersecurity, helpdesk support, and more. Having a single provider manage multiple aspects of your IT infrastructure simplifies operations and ensures seamless integration of services.

Additionally, outsourcing providers often have partnerships with leading technology vendors, allowing them to offer exclusive solutions and services that might not be available to individual businesses. This access to a broader range of services enhances your organization’s technological capabilities and supports its growth and innovation.

Conclusion

Outsourcing IT management offers numerous benefits, from cost efficiency and access to expertise to enhanced security and scalability. By partnering with a reputable outsourcing provider, businesses can focus on their core activities, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that their IT infrastructure is managed effectively. In an increasingly complex and competitive business environment, outsourcing IT management is a strategic move that can drive growth, innovation, and long-term success.
