The camera can be mounted on a tripod too and although it is on the cumbersome side the way the housing is shaped gives you a good ergonomic grip and does not weigh down to one side even with the 4 batteries inside and also provided in the package.

There is a big lens on front which also turns the camera on and off with two focal lengths for you to pick from and also there is new films to check out which we will do in the full review soon..

The Technology Behind Today’s Smart House Alarms

Gone are the days when a house alarm simply shrieked to alert the neighborhood of a break-in. Today, safeguarding our homes involves intricate networks of interconnected devices, each playing a specific role in a sophisticated security dance. This evolution, while offering unparalleled protection, can be overwhelming for homeowners simply seeking peace of mind.

Sensors

Motion sensors come in two main flavors: passive infrared (PIR) and microwave. PIR sensors detect the heat emitted by moving bodies, while microwave sensors bounce radar waves to sense changes in the environment. Both boast a wide reach but are occasionally tricked by the playful movements of pets.

Ever wondered how your alarm system knows when a door or window has been opened? Door and window sensors work their magic through a simple but clever mechanism. Two magnetic fields, perfectly aligned when the door or window is closed, are disrupted when opened, triggering an alert. Some systems even take this a step further, offering sensors that virtually disappear into the woodwork, keeping your security discreet and your aesthetic intact.

Glass break sensors listen for the distinct frequency of shattering glass. These devices aren’t fooled by the everyday sounds of a bustling household. Their finely-tuned “ears” are specifically calibrated to detect the unique frequency of breaking glass. Whether it’s a window pane or a sliding glass door, these sensors can differentiate between a harmless bump and a potential security breach.

But modern alarms extend beyond the basic detection of intruders. Environmental sensors, like those for smoke, carbon monoxide, flooding, or extreme temperature fluctuations, broaden the scope of protection. They act as early warning systems for potential hazards, ensuring your home is safeguarded not just from intruders, but from a wider array of threats.

Communication Technologies

Modern house alarms are more than just sensors detecting disturbances. They need to communicate those detections effectively, both within the home and to the outside world. The method of communication can drastically affect the alarm’s reliability and capabilities.

The backbone of this communication can be a traditional landline, offering reliable connectivity but susceptible to tampering. Cellular communication, on the other hand, provides a wireless lifeline, immune to cut wires but potentially pricier. For those embracing the smart home revolution, Wi-Fi and protocols like Z-Wave or Zigbee weave together sensors, sirens, and apps into a seamless system.

But what happens when the power grid fails? Battery backup systems step in, ensuring your alarm remains vigilant even in darkness. Some alarms take communication a step further, directly alerting professional monitoring services who can dispatch authorities if needed. Others empower homeowners with self-monitoring, delivering alerts straight to their smartphones, a choice balancing cost and control.

Smart Home Integration

Today’s home alarms transcend their traditional role as mere security devices. They’ve become integral members of the smart home ecosystem, offering convenience and automation alongside protection.

Imagine strolling into your home, a simple voice command like “Alexa, I’m home” disarming your security system and turning on the lights. That’s the power of voice control, where virtual assistants become your alarm’s command center. But this integration goes far beyond the front door. With remote access via smartphone apps, you can arm or disarm your system from anywhere, receive real-time alerts, and even peek in on your property through live camera feeds.

Smart home alarms are masters of automation. They can orchestrate a symphony of actions triggered by an alarm event. Doors lock automatically, lights illuminate dark corners, and the thermostat adjusts to a pre-set temperature, all while you receive a notification on your phone.

But of course, all this comes with a few caveats. Ensuring the security of your smart home system through strong passwords and regular software updates becomes paramount in this interconnected landscape. The convenience of smart home integration is undeniable, but it’s essential to navigate this territory with an eye towards both the benefits and the potential pitfalls.

Choosing the Right System for You

The ideal alarm system is as unique as the home it protects. According to Conerney estate agents in Dublin, selecting the right one involves a careful balance of needs, budget, and future considerations.

Financial considerations are a natural starting point. Alarm systems span a wide range of costs, from basic DIY kits to elaborate professionally installed setups with monthly monitoring fees. It’s about finding the sweet spot between your security needs and what your wallet allows.

Speaking of DIY, some homeowners relish the challenge of installing their own alarm systems, while others prefer the peace of mind that comes with professional installation. Weigh the pros and cons, considering your comfort level with technology and the complexity of your chosen system. Remember that you could end up spending more money if you fail to install the alarm system properly. If in doubt, it’s best to leave this task in the hands of professionals.

Think ahead, too. Choose a system that can evolve alongside your needs. Perhaps you’ll want to add cameras in the future or integrate with other smart home devices. Opt for a system that offers flexibility and expansion options to avoid outgrowing your security setup prematurely.

Making the Smart Choice for Your Home

Understanding the technology used in modern house alarms is key to making informed decisions about protecting your home. From invisible motion detectors to door sensors that blend seamlessly into your home’s aesthetic, modern alarms offer a robust shield against intrusion. And with the added benefits of smart home integration, remote control, and automation, they offer not only security but a more convenient and connected lifestyle.

Ground-breaking live stage show asks audience to ‘game’ their way through performance in real time – 7 Deadly Sins in The Civic Theatre on July 12th and 13th

Imagine a stage-show where you don’t just immerse yourself in the story, enjoy the music and marvel at the spectacle, but you also get to actively ‘game’ your way through the performance and influence what happens on stage?

‘7 Deadly Sins’ is the world’s first hybrid eGaming and storytelling stage show, and it will premier a number of development performances in The Civic Theatre, Tallaght on the 12th and 13th of July. Utilising ground-breaking mapping technology, created in partnership with Maynooth University, the audience use a simple app on their mobile phone to become ‘active’ participants, creating a seamless interaction between the audience and performers in real-time. So instead of being told to ‘put your phone away’ when you enter the theatre, this performance will be asking you to get your phone out and be a part of the show!

This steam-punk rock opera, created by Irish playwright and technologist Niall Austin and directed by Prof. David Bassuk, re-imagines Dante Alighieri’s iconic 14th century masterpiece ‘Inferno’ for the 21st century. The 7 Deadly Sins are positioned as digital or social media channels such as:

  • Photo and video sharing apps represent Envy
  • Dating apps represent Lust
  • Cryptocurrency represents Greed

While the performance is taking place live on stage, audience members can engage in combat with an array of virtual demons, zombies and dragons through an app available on IOS and Android. Spectators are encouraged to hold up their phones during the show and partake in the performance by using the app which features augmented reality gaming technology contextually designed around the on-stage production.

Starring opera sensation Claudia Boyle, rising hip-hop star Fortune Igiebor and singer and actress Aoife Spratt, the performance also features a host of other, never before seen interactive features.

Niall Austin, the show’s creator, says: “7 Deadly Sins not only brings a traditional piece of literature into the 21st century, it is a dynamic experience which offers the audience a new frontier in live entertainment – where technology, narrative and performance marry together create an unforgettable stage show. Live entertainment is constantly evolving with many young people now attending concerts and shows to take photos and videos. I am looking forward to enhancing audience engagement and creating an incredible experience for attendees.”

Donal Shiels, Artistic Director at The Civic, says: “It is an exciting time in the world of theatre where technology can be incorporated into stage productions to create a new and interesting experience for audience members. We are delighted to be bringing a world first to The Civic Theatre as we remain committed to evolving with the ever changing technology landscape. Following the incredible success of Niall’s last two shows – PL-AI and Deep Fake – we are looking forward to seeing the interaction between the audience and the performers.”

7 Deadly Sins takes place in The Civic Theatre, Tallaght on Friday 12th July and Saturday 13th July at 7:30pm

As a ‘development performance, tickets are available for €12 here: https://www.civictheatre.ie/whats-on/7-deadly-sins/

Piceasoft’s new AI-powered self-service promotes mobile device circularity by bringing troubleshooting assistant to your pocket

Piceasoft, Europe’s leading provider of mobile device lifecycle solutions, has expanded its Picea® Online mobile circularity platform by developing AI-supported self-service device diagnostics and troubleshooting capabilities. The new self-service features, currently being piloted with a major mobile operator, allow end users to remotely detect and resolve device issues or find the most relevant trade-in or repair options wherever they are.

Self-service capabilities make it easier than ever for end users to access the right services to get the most from their mobile devices. There is no need to visit a physical store; customers can initiate the service from a link or QR code. The platform also enhances mobile operators’ customer experience, allowing them to promote the most relevant add-on services, such as trade-ins and repairs at the right time, uniting mobile operators, trade-in vendors, and repair centers as a full-service ecosystem.

“Picea® Online’s expansion into self-service opens up a whole new workflow for mobile operators and gives them greater access to new business opportunities throughout the entire self-service journey,” says Samuli Ylinen, Product Director at Piceasoft. “The platform performs a personalized, AI-supported device analysis based on the issues experienced by the customer and then recommends resolutions for device problems. These allow operators to promote the most relevant add-on services, for example, trade-in, repair, or insurance, giving operators full control of the entire process through a single platform.”

The solution also promotes device circularity and prevents old phones from being scrapped and ending up as e-waste, as operators are able to offer trade-ins or repairs precisely when the customer needs them. Based on the results of the AI-supported diagnostics, operators can then provide tailored services addressing specific device issues experienced by the consumer.

“The new developments strengthen PiceaOnline as a comprehensive, all-in-one solution for mobile circularity. We’re effectively the middle layer between mobile operators and end customers, as well as the glue holding together all the ecosystem services from partners like trade-in vendors, repair centers, and insurance providers.” Ylinen explains.

Self-service, AI-supported diagnostics, and troubleshooting provide an additional time and cost-saving benefit by significantly reducing the number of No Fault Found (NFF) cases faced by mobile operators, retailers, and repair companies.

“According to our customers, as many as 60%-70% of devices sent for repair are recorded as NFF. NFF cases are very costly for operators and present a significant sustainability issue from the unnecessary shipping of devices that could have been fixed with the right self-service diagnostics,” Ylinen explains. “Most often, these could be avoided if users were guided in the diagnostics phase to perform simple steps like rebooting their device, updating to the latest software, or freeing up some of the devices’ memory.”

Increasing the supply of used mobile devices

Despite high and increasing demand, the supply of used mobile devices in the European market remains low. As this demand continues to grow, the market’s success depends upon increasing the supply of second-hand devices, for example, through effective trade-in programs.

“From a sustainability and mobile circularity point of view, self-service has an extremely high potential to drive change,” says Samuli Ylinen, Product Director at Piceasoft. “There’s a severe shortage of second-hand mobile devices, but there is significant, and increasing consumer demand. One of the major challenges holding back device circularity is the fragmented nature of the process for trade-ins. By supporting customer-driven processes, operators can significantly incentivize trade-ins by providing the best deals for the customers, which helps put more sought-after second-hand devices back into the market.”
