Sony announces new TA-AN1000 AV Amplifier

Sony has today announced the TA-AN1000 – a new highly anticipated 7.2ch 8K AV amplifier with 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to its range. Last year, they introduced the ability for users globally to message seamlessly across all their devices, while maintaining the same level of privacy and security.

Today, they are now improving multi-device offering further by introducing the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones.

A feature highly requested by users, now you can link your phone as one of up to four additional devices, the same as when you link with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktops. Each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, ensuring that your personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and if your primary device is inactive for a long period, we automatically log you out of all companion devices.

Linking phones as companion devices makes messaging easier. Now you can switch between phones without signing out and pick up your chats where you left off. Or if you’re a small business owner, additional employees are now able to respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.

This update has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Tech Review – Edifier WH950NB Hi Res Audio Wireless Headphones

Edifier have always delivered a robust good sounding pair of headphones no matter the cost and that surprised me some months ago when we test out a pair of headphones I was not expecting to sound good at all which was the wH500 which were fantastic for the price and sounded great despite not being the ususal style of headphones I would take shine to.

The latest from Edifier the WH950NB are no different and for me have been a joy to use over the last few weeks and again exceeded my expectations and not only this their app which has got better it seems really helps out and gives you more control over how you want things including sound and some controls.

The build and design is very clean here and most of the time are for the company keeping things simple with simple controls on one side which we go through in the video review below and of course we check out their app so be sure to check it out as it might also help you.

The headphones are comfortable and sit nicely on the ears and once placed correctly they omit much of the outside world and with their superb ANC you can forget about what is going on outside as they just block it all out which I like but you do have the option to have ambient ambient mode turned on and not only that you have gamer mode so everyone is covered here.

For the Audiophile here we also get LDAC which changes the sampling rate which is a bonus we also have multipoint connection too so again a great bonus for those working with two devices LDAC is only available on Android devices take note.

The sound overall is fantastic using their 40mm dynamic drivers and one thing for me and remember it is my personal finding from the review is theatre mode which pouts you right in the centre of everything and sounds just great with not a peep from what is going on outside given we have a level of protection with safe volume they have done an excellent job on the ANC end of things here.

You can skip and reverse tracks adjust the volume and control calls and access your AI voice assistant from the controls on the headset or use the app for some features too making it an easy pair of headphones to use all round, there is an MFB button which you can access your voice assistant from or change the ANC settings and the keys overall on the headphones worked really well with no issues to report at all and worked as instructed in their manual.

Overall excellent sound to be had here for gamers and more with no distortion at maxed out volume noted nice bass and good on phone calls too, I would like to see more colours perhaps but apart from that there is nothing to complain about and we have a decent battery life too but this worked out under their claims as all do but this is down to you and your settings and mine is always volume up and so is the bass which naturally takes a hit but for anyone else who uses 70-80% volume will reach the figures claimed. Another feature to note is the 7 hours playback with just a 10 minute charge.

Conclusion –  These are an excellent pair of headphones and work well sound great and give you a real theatre experience and much more and do not cost as much as other competitors on the market offer sub par experience for the price. Google open applications for 2023 scholarship to support women in Computer Science Education

Google has now opened applications for the 2023 Generation Google Scholarship for women in computer science in Ireland which will see each successful applicant being awarded €5,000 annually, for the duration of their undergraduate studies.

Launched in 2020, this is the fourth year of the scholarshipIn that time, 40 recipients have been awarded scholarships with two 2022 Generation Google scholars now interning at Google’s Dublin campus. The aim of the programme is to further gender equality in the field of computer science in Ireland, by encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, and become active leaders and role models in the industry.

Ruth Bergin, a recipient of the scholarship last year said: “The Generation Google scholarship has boosted my career immensely. I received mentoring from an Engineering Director at Google, who offered me excellent career advice and helped me improve my technical interview skills. I completed an internship at Google Zurich, during which I even got the chance to visit the US on a business trip! I’ve presented to a Google Vice-President, to Senior Directors, and to Directors. Beyond all of that, I’ve met so many female role models in the tech space – from my intern host to the scholarship programme team. When I applied, I didn’t realise just how many experiences and opportunities would open up to me – or that I’d even be chosen at all! I’d urge any student pursuing a tech career to apply.

Welcoming the 2023 programme, Jessica McCarthy, Director of Engineering at Google Ireland, said: “Since 2020, Google has helped inspire a new generation of women to begin careers in computer science. The ten Generation Google Scholars will each receive a €5,000 award for the duration of their undergraduate studies. Scholarship funds will be distributed to selected scholarship recipients, on an annual basis, for the duration of the student’s undergraduate programme for up to four years.

Those eligible to apply must be currently enrolled as a first or second year undergraduate student at a university /institute of technology in Ireland. They must intend to continue pursuing their Bachelors degree at a university/ institute of technology in Ireland for at least the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. They must be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field, demonstrate a strong academic record, and exemplify leadership and show a passion for increasing the involvement of women in technology.

CWSI to create 50 new jobs as it accelerates business growth

Other significant appointments include Mark Mitchell as Group Chief Technical Officer (CTO), who will be responsible for new product, technology, and service development. Mickaella Glynn has been appointed as Group Chief People Officer (CPO), and will be responsible for all aspects of the group’s people strategy. Paul Line has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and will lead all marketing and commercial activity for CWSI.

Thierry Lammers and Ulrik Van Schepdael, the respective CEOs of the newly acquired BLAUD and mobco, also join the senior leadership team and will continue to provide local leadership and drive business development in their regions.
