Review – The Baseus UFO wireless charger. Slim, neat and cheap. #Baseus #WirelessCharger #Tech

Wireless charging is slowly getting big but with many phones coming without it is annoying, In fact so annoying it has stopped me buying some. True Wireless earbuds also now have wireless charging on deck and this is something to take not with products now on the market that caters for three products at one but we all dont have such products so this is a cheap alternative if you fancy picking one up.

Given it is at the lower end 5W scale it is a good start even to see how convenient it is to have one and just drop your device down without the need to plug in a cable this will also give your port a longer life too as they tend to wear down and stop working.

Input: 5V 1A/9V 1.67A

Poly unveils radically simple video devices and puts the mojo back into meetings. #Poly

Poly (“Poly” – formerly Plantronics and Polycom), has unveiled a full range of video endpoints that dramatically simplify the video conferencing experience for Zoom Rooms. Poly has announced two new purpose-built all-in-one video bars, the Poly Studio X30 and Poly Studio X50. The Poly Studio X Series does not require an external PC or Mac to drive the Zoom Rooms experience and features new Poly MeetingAI capabilities for breakthrough audio and video experiences built on machine learning and artificial intelligence. In addition, Poly announced that the G7500 video operating system will also support the Zoom Rooms experience natively.

This range of devices means that Zoom Rooms can be easily deployed in meeting rooms of all sizes, from huddle rooms to board rooms, with the enterprise-grade quality for which Poly is known. Together, these solutions put the “mojo” back into meetings with technology that is easy to deploy, easy to manage, and easy to use.

“Customers love Zoom because it offers an unparalleled video experience – and now with the Poly Studio X Series, using Zoom in a huddle room or conference room becomes even easier and more powerful,” said Eric S. Yuan, chief executive officer, Zoom. “A conference room with a single purpose-built device running Zoom means customers get simplicity, ease-of-use, and innovation at their fingertips – core tenets of our Zoom product offering.”

Open offices and flexible workforces mean the experience in huddle and meeting rooms has got to be right to keep workers connected. Following the launch of the Poly G7500 for mid- to large-sized meeting rooms and the award-winning Poly Studio plug-and-play USB video bar for huddle rooms, Poly is bringing greater choice and flexibility to address the needs of all meeting spaces with its Poly Studio X30 and Poly Studio X50 devices. Poly’s line of video devices is designed to work seamlessly with modern collaboration applications to streamline the experience, completely reinvented with support for 4K Ultra high definition (UHD).

Poly also introduced Poly MeetingAI features that improve all aspects of the meeting experience. Advanced noise suppression makes it easy to hear the human voices while simultaneously blocking the typing, pen clicking, or candy unwrapping that may be happening at the same time. New unmatched video production rules automatically allow remote employees to truly see the faces and the context of what is happening, without requiring anyone in the room to touch a remote or reconfigure a setting.

“We’re constantly looking at how we can modernise the way people work, and that means making collaboration much simpler—with the software of their choice,” said Joe Burton, president and chief executive officer at Poly. “Our completely refreshed line of video devices is designed to drastically streamline that experience of walking into any meeting room and starting a meeting instantly and easily.”

Powerful and simple Poly Studio X30 and Poly Studio X50
The Poly Studio X30, ideal for small offices or huddle rooms, supports 4K UHD video and built-in wireless content sharing capabilities, all in a compact design. The Poly Studio X30 supports the full range of Poly MeetingAI capabilities, so it packs a boardroom experience into a small box. Seamless content collaboration is enabled wirelessly. The video bar’s premium audio engineering offers plenty of pickup power.

The Poly Studio X50, the larger of the two new solutions, boasts even greater pickup range and high-quality speakers to suit the needs of mid-size conference rooms. In addition to the new Poly MeetingAI features, the Poly Studio X50 supports dual screens for Zoom Rooms, greatly expanding the capabilities to support the needs of larger conference rooms. It also supports 4K UHD video, 5x zoom, wireless content sharing, audio input/output and a room-thundering stereo speaker system.

Flexible installation means both Poly Studio X models can sit, stand or be mounted wherever desired, with downward facing connection ports making this flexibility possible. To make it even easier to install and use, Poly also announced the new Poly TC8 touch controller that offers a native Zoom Rooms interface, high-performance, and a single power-over-ethernet cable so there is no need to stretch cables or cords across tables to connect to the video bar.

Craig Durr, senior analyst, Wainhouse Research said, “The Poly Studio X Series paired with a native Zoom Rooms experience will simplify deployment for IT administrators while providing end-users with a streamlined experience.”

G7500 for Zoom
Poly also announced that its G7500 video endpoint for mid- to large-sized conference rooms will run the Zoom Rooms app natively, completing its family of video conferencing products. The Poly G7500 combines content collaboration and video conferencing capabilities in one device, integrating advanced audio features, wireless content sharing and 4K UHD video. The G7500 can be combined with an array of camera, microphone and display options for an immersive audio and video experience in larger conference rooms and training rooms.

A full suite of Zoom-enabled appliances from Poly
Today’s announcements round out a full complement of Zoom-enabled endpoints from Poly. The Poly Studio USB video bar is already certified for Zoom, as is the Poly EagleEye Cube USB camera. Poly’s VVX line of desk phones support Zoom Phone, and Poly’s line of noise-cancelling headsets offer great audio when used with Zoom on Macs or PCs, or with a smartphone.

In addition to supporting Zoom Rooms natively, the Studio X Series, like the Poly G7500, also supports the full breadth of conferencing capabilities through open standards like Open SIP.

Studio X series pricing and availability
The Poly Studio X30 and Poly Studio X50 will be priced at $2,199 and $3,499 respectively, including the Poly TC8, and will be available for pre-order in November with general availability in North America, Europe and select additional countries by December 2019. The Poly G7500 for Zoom will be available as a software update for the G7500 in December 2019.

New network GoMo launches in Ireland. #GoMo #eir

Competition in the telecoms world has heated up things a bit with a new player in town but there is a catch or two, It is belong to eir who have not had it easy over the last while and there is no shops and phones. It is all web based and similar to what is on offer elsewhere by the eir owner. eir also will have no hand on this when it comes to customer service and as we know customer service goes along way and it will in time tell just how good this is going to be assuming the uptake will be a big one.

The pricing on offer for the first 100,000 customers stands at 9.99 a month which is undercutting everyone else out there as it stands now but this move might just see others drop their price and there is nothing better than competition in my book but this whole thing just reminds me or the meteor/eir thing and ID mobile and ID mobile did not last too long.  This is a rolling plan something I am on with another network paying €25 a month for today

To join you just bring your number or sign up and you will pay €10 up front which is not bad and the data allowance is the one to watch as we now consume more data than ever before  and you get a whopping 80GB, So to cap off what is on offer it is all calls, sms your 80GB data and 10GB data of roaming but all this falls under the FUP policy and if you are outside the EU and roam you will be hit hard in the pocket paying big bucks there.

Usage outside of your inclusive allowances will be charged as follows:

  • Voicemail – Free
  • Additional Minutes – 30c/Min
  • SMS – 15c per SMS

See the roaming charges below. You can see more in the PRICING guide

Fair usage – 45,000 minutes and 10,000 SMS which being honest is fine most of us today use social media or Whats App for example to communicate, I think myself I get bout 5 text a week and send the same so no fear of going outside the limits or calls for that matter.

Is this a good deal? On paper yes once you dont roam outside the EU but you can see more at https://shop.gomo.ie/  I  will be back with a review on the service in a few weeks and just lets see how customer service works out.

Update – New fee €12.99

Update – Now 4 sims can be used on one account

E-waste Day aims to increase recycling rates of electronics. #Recycling #Electronics #ewasteday

On October 14, International E-waste Day takes place for the second time, aiming to reduce the burden that e-waste places on the environment and save natural resources. More than 100 organizations from 44 countries stand behind the initiative to encourage recycling of e-waste.

Fifty million metric tonnes of e-waste is generated every globally year. Much of it is handled in an unsafe way, causing pollution, human health hazards and the loss of valuable finite resources. E-waste is the world’s fastest growing waste stream and most countries have difficulties handling these vast amounts of discarded products in a responsible and resource efficient way. In 2016, only 20 percent of electronic waste was recycled globally.

International E-waste Day puts a spotlight on the fact that, while the focus has been on collecting products, not enough effort has gone into building infrastructure for processing the waste or safely recovering used materials. This has led to a shortage of facilities where e-waste can be managed safely. Instead, e-waste is mixed with residual waste, where it is often incinerated, placed in landfill, or exported to developing countries. E-waste exporters generally choose destinations lacking effective legislation that regulates how e-waste should be handled.

In these countries, products are manually disassembled, burned in the open air or dissolved in acid by local laborers, including children, without adequate protective equipment — leading to severe health problems. Electronic products contain a number of toxic substances hazardous to human health, with documented risk to the brain nervous system, lungs and kidneys as well as links to certain cancers. Toxic residues can leak and contaminate the soil, air and water, affecting surrounding ecosystems where the local communities grow their food, hunt and fish. The hazardous substances are also spread to other continents through the air and the sea.

To prevent e-waste, the global sustainability certification TCO Certified has a circular approach to the production and consumption of IT products. By requiring that IT products are durable, repairable and upgradeable as well as recyclable, products can live longer and materials can be recovered.

“There is not one big solution to this problem — it’s all about taking many small steps in the right direction. For example, with TCO Certified, generation 8, the use of hazardous substances in IT products is reduced or eliminated, to enable recycling of materials when the product has reached the end of its usable life.” says Andreas Rehn, Development Manager at TCO Development, the organization behind TCO Certified.

He continues:

“TCO Certified also requires that important spare parts are made available and that batteries are replaceable so we don’t have to discard products just because the battery has lost its capacity.”

What you can do

  1. Use your products for as long as possible. This is the single most effective thing you can do to minimize e-waste and the negative effects on our planet.

  1. Choose products that are designed to enable a more circular model and can live multiple lives by being repaired, upgraded and refurbished.

  1. Consider if someone else might find the product useful when you no longer use it. Sell it or donate to charity.

  1. Make sure the product is recycled in a safe and responsible way at the end of its usable life.

Review – Amazon Echo Show 5. It is a must have for the price. #EchoShow5 #Amazon #Alexa

Those who are familiar with Amazon products will know too well how they work but this one is on another level as you can actually see something this time,Yes there is other products from Amazon that do the same but I have not tried them so hear me out because there is plenty like me and most might just have the standard echo in one gen or another.

First the unboxing experience.

The UI is pretty simple to use and easy to navigate, setting up and customising is simple and you have many options hopefully more will follow though later on. I left mine with a flip clock and news information and have it placed on my bedside locker as it come in handy in many ways than the usual use for such as due to the screen there is alot more on offer and the screen size is good enough to watch things on and the quality.

The echo show 5 is basically your echo dot with a screen and much more if you make use of it you can browse the web although might be a bit awkward for some due to its shape but for me it was fine, you can use google search watch netflix and much more and depending on the skills you have or what is available to you and for you. We can do all the good things like ask for the weather and get a visual response and as I have said I often feel like a fool speaking to these things but this time is different, I you have IoT in your house you are also on a win especially if you have security cameras as you can view them on screen but you cant do anything which is fine you just get a bigger picture than you might on your smartphone but check out the video below If you have a friend that has one it is cool as you can do video calling I tested this out on myself again seen in video review.

I am surprised more skills are not available for this yet as it has many benefits even such as radio stations there is little to chose from but you do have TuneIn but we could have much more skills and this could be a one stop shop for many people, I have more IoT tech coming and will be going over things again later on and to see how the integration is as a whole as for now I just have several camera skills on it and some other and these work great. It is a convenient hub great for setting alarms getting news and weather and much more and worth its price if you take it up on all the offerings it has, I now watch you tube and Netflix  on it for example and it keeps my phone free and it is not a cumbersome lump on your bedside locker either it just fits nicely. Another thing to note is the sound quality it has great bass and rich sound this is important and adds to the experience.

For those worried about privacy there is a camera shutter key but for the folks that worry about the rest I always say turn the like of this tech off when not in use which is what I do.

One small niggle I found was that smart menu did not always show but im sure a software update will fix that. Other than that it is one of the best pieces of tech worth the money right now.
