Review – The EPSON 4K EH-TW9400 Home projector. #Tech #Epson #Projectors

First thing you need to know this is a beast by that I mean in size and weight and some might go as far to say the price.. It is not cheap but it does offer massive screen size if you have a wall big enough which enables enhanced viewing pleasure and not only that it is simple enough to use. The remote is a bit scary looking with all the keys but I found using the navi pad on the projector itself easier to use, there is lots of use case scenarios here this can be used in but my review is on home based use which for most will be HDMI based technology.

I tested this with my laptop, gaming consoles and USB and it works a treat, most of us will use the same at home especially HDMI connected products, Gaming is fantastic on this and it really changes how you look at it and play.either turn your speakers up full whack or put some headphones on and you are in a different world playing this on a maxed out wall as you will see in the video below..

Looking for a job in tech or IT click the image below…

This is going to need space depending on where you plan to put it and its heavy. This is not a short throw projector so it needs to be spaced and again you need to test run it before final installation especially if ceiling mounted. Once all that is done you are good to go after some adjustments with focus and so on and of course cable management.

Features..

  • PRO-UHD 4K-enhancement technology with advanced pixel-shifting
  • Full HD, UHD BD, and HDR support
  • 3LCD technology and an equally high White and Colour Light Output of up to 2,600 lumens delivering vivid colours
  • Frame interpolation and Detail Enhancement for smooth fast-moving action
  • Fully motorised optics: Powered zoom, focus and wide lens shift for flexible positioning
  • Large screen size – up to 300 inches
  • Incredibly long lamp life and easy installation

You can stream high-quality 4K content to the projector from smartphones, games consoles, Blu-ray players and more by connecting via HDMI to the 4K WiHD transmitter. I tested this on smartphones, TV,Gaming consoles and laptop Blu Ray is a thing of the past for many but I wish I had one..

Review – The Garmin DriveSmart 65 Sat Nav #Garmin #SatNav #Tech #Motoring

I am not one to use a sat nav due to being in the logistics industry over 25 years and working on maps and digital cartography over the years but I do like to check out these things when they come along and compare to what is on offer.

The DriveSmart 65 also has Amazon Alexa built in which is a good thing in one respect and keeps you with your hands on the wheel ( current laws in Ireland do not allow you access information now on devices) but there is other features on the tablet sized device that can help you on your travels which is good. I have mostly compiled video footage on this for a visual aspect and set up of the product too so I will go over the rest and point out the bad and good..

Set-up is easy and it is more or less ready to go out of the box just go through the options regardless as regions will vary on some aspects, Download the app and connect then fix to you or car  window and you are good tho go,this is simple to and is just mounted with a suction cup like a dash cam for example or mobile phone holder.

You can then pair to your cars audio system too and your mobile phone and chose which the audio comes from which is handy.

Using the Amazon features is fine in one respect but for some like any voice assistant this can be hit and miss but for the basic tasks you are fine, There is an “OK GARMIN” option too and the same is to be said here when asking for directions mainly because of the map data gathered here and this is shown in the maps itself but you can search with eircode which is handy and might be a better option for some, if you are looking for a business you will struggle and may perhaps have to relate to your smartphone for an eircode to get directions to the door..

Getting directions can be also a hit and miss as mentioned with businesses in particular and you will be sent off the opposite direction but this can also occur with other mapping options but the Garmin mapping layout is quite good overall on the large screen with good warnings on speed limits, coming off motorways with lane selection and on most occasions it will tell you that you are coming up to a school but you will see more in the video by how I mean the maps are antiquated.

Overall thought it is a good product and there is a version of this available with a dash cam which I would recommend over this for cable space and less window space taken up, Garmin dash cams are great  and both these combined in one unit would be of good benefit but I feel the product will get better and there might be more map data available in other countries as to whats available here. The latest software updates where installed during my testing period which was a huge 8GB update before I tested it.

Double Take – Unboxing and First look, The Edifier TWS1 and TWS5 True Wireless earbuds. #Edifier #TrueWireless

What a day to be alive. Our good friends Edifier have just sent us two of their True Wireless earbuds to check out and this will be a comparison on young and old if you will and we look forward to it, As I have test many products from Edifier and stand by their audio quality and their headphones are top notch and this is out first time to check out some of their true wireless range. We have the TWS1 and the TWS5 in for a review and comparison so this will be a double review and we have a double unboxing today to have a quick first look.

The main differences between TWS1 and TWS5:

1. Chipset

The main chipset of TWS5 is QCC3026, which is sort of better than QCC3020 of TWS1. QCC3026 is the representative model of Qualcomm’s QCC series chips. QCC3026 adopts WLCSP packing which is smaller and highly integrated, which is helpful for the design as well as the implementation of the sound cavity and antenna system, as 3026 is even more difficult to produce.

2. Diaphragm(Sound)

TWS5 adopts wool felt diaphragm, and therefore the sound quality is closer to the balance of the low/middle/high frequency and performs more outstanding in audio resolution and dynamic, compared with TWS1.

3. Antenna

TWS5 adopts LDS radium antenna, which guarantees the RF signal.

4. Charging Solution

The playback time is basically the same but the three touch-pin charging solution of TWS5 (TWS1 only has two pins) ensures better battery management of the charging box.

5. Size, Weight and Design

The size of TWS5 is obviously larger than TWS1, and it is about 57.2g versus 41.1g of TWS1. This matters according to different user’s preference. Some may prefer smaller ones while others focus on material texture. TWS5 uses metal spray paint to enhance the texture of charging box, the indicator on it also looks better.

With five built-in directional speakers, Echo Studio has been purposefully engineered to create premium sound with space, clarity, and depth. Echo Studio has a 1-inch tweeter and three 2-inch midrange speakers that deliver dynamic midranges and crisp, high frequencies. Designed for wherever your day leads you, Echo Buds are an easy way to access Alexa hands-free while on-the-go. Each earbud has two outer microphones and one inner microphone that work together to reduce ambient noise so Alexa can hear you whether you’re walking to work, on your lunch break, or carrying your shopping home on the train. All you have to do is ask to hear your favourite playlist, check your calendar, or order an Uber.

Echo Buds have two premium, balanced armature drivers in each earbud—the driver design is inspired by in-ear monitors used by professional musicians, to deliver crisp, clear vocals and dynamic bass. This design makes Echo Buds perfect for listening to your favourite music, Audible book, podcast, or radio station. Plus, with Bose Active Noise Reduction Technology, you can choose to minimise the noise around you. If you’re in a crowded coffee shop or working in an open office space, double tap either earbud to turn Active Noise Reduction on. When you are walking down a busy street or at the train station—places where you want to hear the world around you— double tap either earbud again to turn Pass-through mode on.

Echo Buds come with three different sized ear tips and wing tips for a secure fit that you can wear throughout your day. Each earbud is sweat resistant and IPX4-rated to withstand splashes or light rain. And with one full charge, Echo Buds have up to five hours of music playback or four hours of call time. The included charging case holds up to three additional charges, which means 15 additional hours of music playback or 12 hours of call time. Echo Buds connect to Alexa through the Alexa app on your mobile device and use your existing device’s data plan to access a range of features such as music, navigation via Google maps, calling, and more. You can also tap and hold your Echo Buds to access your phone’s native voice services—Siri or Google Assistant.

New Alexa Features

Alongside a new lineup of Echo devices, Amazon today announced ways that Alexa is getting smarter, making life more convenient and giving customers even more control over their experience.

Alexa can Recommend Routines

Customers around the world regularly use routines to execute multiple smart home commands with a single utterance, and now Alexa is able to recommend routines that you may want to set up based on your daily habits. For example, if a customer sets their alarm for 6 AM and then immediately ask for the weather every day, Alexa will suggest setting up a routine so that the alarm is always set and the weather plays as soon as it goes off. When Alexa asks if you would like a routine set-up, just say “yes,” and the routine is ready to go.

Alexa can tell you about her responses
Alexa will soon offer two new voice-based features that provide customers with more transparency over the responses they get. If a customer is curious to understand what Alexa heard when you asked her to tell you the news or play a specific song, customers will be able to say, “Alexa, tell me what you heard” and Alexa will read back your most recent voice request. You will also be able to ask, “Alexa, why did you do that?” and Alexa will provide a short explanation about her response to your last voice request. This feature will be rolling out in the coming weeks.

Additional control for customers—Auto-Delete Voice Recordings
Alexa and Echo devices are built with multiple layers of privacy protections. Earlier this year Amazon introduced the ability for customers to say, “Alexa, delete everything I said today,” and “Alexa, delete what I just said” to make it easier for customers to delete their recordings. Today we’re taking it one step further with Auto-delete. Available later this year, customers will be able to choose to have their voice recordings older than three or 18 months automatically deleted on an ongoing basis. This feature will be available in addition to the ability to access and delete utterances individually, or all at once, which customers have today.

Availability

The all-new Amazon Echo, Echo Flex, Echo Dot with clock, Echo Show 8 and Echo Studio are available for pre-order starting today and will start shipping to UK customers later this year. Echo Buds will be available in the UK later this year and customers can sign up at www.amazon.co.uk/echobuds to be notified when they become available.

The new devices announced today join Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Show 5 and Echo companion devices to create the Echo family of devices. Amazon also introduced new Alexa features that will soon roll out to Echo devices. Read more about today’s news at www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonDevices.

Review – Secure data 1TB SSD secure drive. James Bond tech. #data #securedata #drives

I have covered several drives here in the past and to be fair some of these are quite the kit with James Bond ringing about them and this one is no different but it has a trick up its sleeve compared to others when it comes to the tech aspect. Most of what I have covered uses keypads this one does not infact there is little to it at all you just get a cable in the box there is a couple of LEDs on top and then there is the bluetooth unlocking which is excellent and works every time without fail and I tried and tested on several phones just to be sure.

When it comes to drives like this people ask about the FIPs level ( Federal Information Processing Standards) each year they are getting higher with more security and encryption levels making them harder to break into and in some case even physically break at all. Currently there is 4 levels of FIPs and 5 is not too far away by the looks of things You can read up more on this HERE

The setup process is painless here which is great all you need is an app which is on Android and iOS power in the unit to your PC and then pair them up and away you go you have the options to command what needs doing after this. You will see how to in the video review. You also get DriveSecurity Antivirus powered by ESET – 1 Year License which is great..This does not require software which is an added bonus and file transfer is quick and fast and no lag or issues here..

Features:

  • FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Validated, AES 256-bit Hardware Encryption
  • Wireless Unlock via Mobile App. 2 Factor Authentication via Text
  • No software, OS Independent (Works on and with any OS)
  • Unique Password Recovery features via Text
  • Remote Data Wipe if device lost or stolen
  • Read Only Mode, Device Step Away AutoLock
  • Malware Protection: Preloaded with USB Antivirus

Would I recommend? Well yes but first you will have people complain about the price but this is the norm today you pay for storage no matter what tech you buy just like smartphones but with all that is on offer here on top and how easy it is to use. This model costs €505 euro and goes up to €3500 depending on storage..

New Dell Technologies Research Forecasts Top Ways Emerging Tech Will Transform our Lives by 2030 #Tech #Dell

Dell Technologies today released the Future of Connected Living – new research exploring how emerging technologies will transform how we live by the year 2030. The research, conducted in partnership with  Institute for the Future (IFTF) and Vanson Bourne, surveyed 4600 business leaders across 40+ countries. The findings detail a future brimming with opportunity as advancing technologies hold the potential to drive human progress across the world.

Mark Hopkins, General Manager, Dell Technologies Ireland said: “The Future of Connecting Living report we are launching today outlines concrete examples of the immense changes that will take place over the next decade. Everything around us will become more intelligent and human-machine partnerships will drive higher productivity and greater work-life balance.

“At Dell Technologies, we are committed to working with our customers across the island of Ireland to ensure that they are prepared for our world of 2030 and are well-placed to benefit from emerging technologies to drive future business growth.”

 Emerging technology driving major shifts

IFTF and forum of global experts forecast that technologies such as edge computing, 5G, AI, Extended Reality (XR) and IoT will combine to create five major “shifts” in the coming decade. These shifts will have the power to change lives across the globe.

IFTF forecasts the following shifts between now and 2030:

  1. Networked Reality: Over the next decade cyberspace will become an overlay on top of our existing reality as our digital environment extends beyond televisions, smartphones and other displays.

  1. Connected Mobility and Networked Matter: The vehicles of tomorrow will essentially be mobile computers. We will trust them to take us where we need to go in the physical world as we interact in the virtual spaces available to us wherever we are.

  1. From Digital Cities to Sentient Cities: Cities will quite literally come to life through their own networked infrastructure of smart objects, self-reporting systems and AI-powered analytics.

  1. Agents and Algorithms: We will each be supported by a highly personalized “operating system for living” that is able to anticipate our needs and proactively support our day-to-day activities to free up time.

  1. Robot with Social Lives: Robots will become our partners in life – enhancing our skills and extending our abilities. Robots will share newfound knowledge to their social robot network to crowdsource innovations and accelerate progress, in real time.

Anticipating Change

Many businesses are already preparing for these shifts. For example, the survey of 4600 businesses found that:

  • 76% expect they will restructure the way they spend their time by automating more tasks.
  • More than half of businesses surveyed indicated that they anticipate Networked Reality to becoming commonplace
  • 56% say they would welcome day-to-day immersion in virtual and augmented realities
  • 56% say they would welcome people being fitted with technology that controls computers with their mind (brain computer interfaces)

Navigating Challenges

These major technology-led shifts may challenge people and organizations that are grappling with change, according to the research. Organizations that wish to harness the power of the new emerging technologies will need to take steps to effectively collect, process and deploy data to keep pace with rate of rapid innovation.

Additionally, concerns around the fairness of algorithms that do everything from decide how companies hire to who is eligible for loans must be addressed, as will growing concerns from the public about data privacy. Governments will need to learn how to work together to share and deploy their data if cities are to go from digital to sentient.

Business leaders are already anticipating some of these challenges:

  • 74% of surveyed businesses leaders say they consider data privacy to be a top societal-scale challenge that must be solved
  • 44% call for AI regulation and clarity on how it’s used

To execute the research, IFTF relied on its decades-long study on the future of work and technology, the latest Dell Technologies research, and experts from across the globe. The Future of Connected Living is the third and final part in a three-part research series that includes The Future of the Economy and The Future of Work, both of which were released earlier in 2019.

GECAS & UL launch new Women in Aviation Scholarship. #WomenInAviation #GECAS #UL #Aviation

GECAS, the leading aircraft lessor based in Shannon, and the University of Limerick School of Engineering, are pleased to announce Ireland’s first ever Women in Aviation Scholarship to help drive increased engagement by female students in Aeronautical Engineering.

Beginning this year, GECAS will provide a Scholarship each year to one qualifying first-year female student of the UL Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering course. The successful student will be awarded a €5,000 bursary for each year of their studies, meaning a total of €20,000 will have been granted by the time of their graduation.

Through this initiative, GECAS is leading the Irish aviation leasing sector in helping drive female engagement of Irish aeronautical engineers, starting from the ground-up. As a major employer in the region, GECAS is keen to spearhead this initiative with the University of Limerick.

Niamh O’Dwyer, a 4th year aeronautical engineer from Clonmel, Emma Tobin, a 5th year aeronautical engineering student from, Duncannon, Wexford, Hannah Begley a 4th year aeronautical engineering student from Curragh, Kildare and Maram Youssef, a 4th year aeronautical engineer from Clonmel.
Photograph Liam Burke Press 22

Speaking at the launch, David Campbell, Head of Technical, GECAS said, “It is estimated that only around 10% of Aeronautical Engineering students in Ireland are female. We want to change that metric. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage, and more importantly, support the development of the next generation of women in aviation, particularly in the engineering space. GECAS understands very well that diverse teams offer great advantages to organisations, so it is vital that we play our part to ensure a strong pipeline of female talent into our industry.”

Sarah Hartnett, Director of Development, University of Limerick Foundation said, “We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with GECAS. The under-representation of women pursuing careers in the Aeronautical Engineering space is a concern. However, through the support of organisations such as GECAS, we can work towards encouraging young women into fields that they might not initially consider and highlight to them the fantastic career avenues that exist.”

Ronan O’Higgins, Course Director of the Aeronautical Engineering Programme, University of Limerick Foundation said, GECAS has always been a strong supporter of the Aeronautical Engineering Programme at UL. In fact Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA), the forerunner of GECAS, was directly involved with the establishment the programme in 1991While female participation is traditionally low, our female graduates will tell you of the fantastic opportunities that they have experienced in their careers in aviation. The GECAS Women in Aviation Scholarship will help to increase awareness of this exciting career to future female aeronautical engineers.”

The program is open to female students of the University of Limerick’s Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering and begins with first year students. Each year, one new first year student will be awarded the scholarship, with the bursary continuing for each year of the course. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement and passion for aviation.

The deadline for submission of this year’s applications is October 11th, 2019.
