Review – BenQ Screenbar e-Reading LED Task Tech Lamp. #tech #reviews

The Benq ScreenBar e-Reading lamp is a horizontal LED lamp that sits on top of any monitor and lights up the area in front. The Benq ScreenBar e-Reading lamp felt strong and sturdy with the patented clip heavier and stronger than expected while visually appealing. The Benq ScreenBar is made up of a aluminum tube. The tube clips into a counter-weight mount, which then sits on top of your monitor. The entire tube rotates a few degrees and you can also shift the angle by moving the mount on the monitor a bit.

Key Features:

  • Auto Dimming
  • Space Saving Design
  • Screen Glare Free
  • USB Powered
  • Mood Lighting

Dimensions:

Weight 531 g

Product Dimensions 53 x 44 x 35 cm

Setup:

The setup is minimal, there was is no need for tape or screws, The Benq ScreenBar e-Reading lamp was hung on the back of the TV using the supplied counter-weight mount on the back of the lamp. This has a micro-USB port for power, this was connected to a USB socket, (cable was supplied) The LED was connected via the USB port which tales very little power.  The 4 main buttons on the tube worked easily with minimum fuss. Once connected, the built-in ambient light sensor automatically illuminates to 500 lux which advised, is the ambient light source.

A specially designed clip makes the attachment onto monitors easy and stable. No need for screws or tape that damage monitors. The clip fits any monitor with thickness from 0.4” to 1.2” (1 to 3 cm). The patented clip features space saving, no Lamp base and more desk space.

Overview:

The units touch and weight look like a premium quality product.  The Screen Bar has an automatic dimmer and asymmetric optical design, this can illuminate the working space with USB power, avoiding reflectively glare off your monitor screen. The ambient light sensor automatically illuminates to 500 lumens as it detects the surrounding brightness and then supplements it with just the right amount of light. This worked close to the light for reading but not practical for reading in a larger room. The light has a high level of technology build into the LED, allowing eight colours choices.  The warm light lets you relax and replenishes your energy. The cool light allows you to concentrate and boosts work efficiency.

This technology includes Remove Eye Strain, Non-flickering LED lighting, Auto-Dimming, Hue Adjustment Features, No Screen Glare or Flicker and No Blue Light Hazard, with my favorite Touch Sensitive Control. The BenQ ScreenBar e-Reading LED Task Lamp can be hung on monitors to save space, matte black USB powered office lamp with eye-care. This light is ideal for those who want a light in the room but don’t want the room lights turned on fully, the build quality is strong, sturdy and unobtrusive on the top of a TV or monitor. The setup and controls are simple to use.

This is a light which looks cool, works as a light with lots of technology in the background, this is not going to excite anyone but does what it supported to do.  This solves some basic problems with a traditional light, limited space, another plug socket required. The Benq team seems to have looked at traditional lights, found the annoying features and designed a lamp to minimise these defects. There are less expensive lights out there but if the technology from BenQ does what it states in terms of your eyes this alone is a feature work getting.

STM Launches The Myth Collection. #Tech #Travel #TechBags #STM #STMGOODS

STM Goods, a leading designer of innovative bags, cases, and accessories for consumer electronic devices have launched newest line of products: The Myth Collection. A four-piece assortment of casual, handsome accessories, Myth combines STM’s trademark protection and clever, thoughtful design with a captivating look of complementary colours and fabrics. We have been using their bags now over two years on a daily basis and can highly recommend these products and are ideal for tech fans who travel with tech and go to press events and so on.

The Myth line is comprised of a 28L capacity backpack, 18L backpack, laptop brief, and laptop sleeve, as well as two storage accessory items—the Must Stash and the larger Dapper Wrapper. Each pack and brief boasts abundant storage, divided into roomy sections that easily house daily essentials: a laptop, tablet, phone, and documents (the roomier backpacks even have enough space to house incidentals such as a lightweight jacket or lunch bag). Suspended tech cells for digital gear provide ample protection for fragile contents, and numerous zippers and pockets throughout the bags help ensure that all smaller items (batteries, cables, pens, etc.) remain organised and safely in place.

The Myth sleeve is sized and designed specifically to safely carry and protect a laptop, and features a fleece-lined section that securely cradles tech gear. Must Stash is a 1.5L volume carrier that comfortably fits inside most STM backpacks and provides additional organisation as a repository for cords, pens, and other small items. Dapper Wrapper features multiple pockets and storage compartments for corralling cables, adapters, and other larger odds and ends.

All products in the Myth Collection are constructed from lightweight, water resistant fabric.

The Myth Collection is a culmination of STM’s more than 20 years of innovation, creating products that are “Smarter Than Most” and enabling the brand to attain a reputation as an industry leader in originality. Each of the new Myth items teem with features that demonstrate a smarter functionality in one of six key categories (some features on backpacks only):

Smarter Protection: SlingTech™ suspends laptop away from edge of the pack, isolating it from the bump zone; fleece-lined laptop section and tablet pocket cradle tech gear

Smarter Design: ComfortCarry™ harness features ergonomic curved fit, provides ideal weight distribution; TPU coated webbing handles with rivets ensures durability

Smarter Travel: PassPort securely easily connects the backpack to other baggage items

Smarter Construction: Water and dirt repellent, environmentally-friendly fabric; air channel back panel system promotes air flow, keeps the user cool and comfortable; reverse coil zippers (slider positioned on the flatter side) keep moisture and grunge out; main zipper on each of the backpacks is waterproof

Smarter Technology: Remarkable CableReady system lets you charge on-the-go with cords out of sight; portable power pocket; AirPod pocket offers quick, easy access to your wireless headphones; dedicated place to keep ear buds safely stowed, corralled, and untangled

Smarter Organisation: Roomy capacity; internal power brick/cable compartment; fleece-lined storage for sunglasses

“From the very start of our company, STM has created products that work for the customer in a better, more intelligent way,” said Ethan Nyholm, CEO and co-founder of STM Goods. “For example, our SlingTech™ feature is one of the industry’s most revolutionary innovations in digital gear protection. Today, with the introduction of such creature comforts as the ComfortCarry™ harness, and convenient pockets for AirPod and ear bud storage, we continue to create products that set new standards for effectiveness, efficiency, and originality.

“It occurred to us that associating the letters in our company name, with a message that clearly identifies to the customer why our products are their best choice, made perfect sense in reinforcing a strong brand identity. When people see the letters STM, they will be able to make the immediate connection that our products are ‘Smarter Than Most,’ helping to establish us as the most appropriate choice, the better choice—the first choice—for a pack or brief.”

One design feature that sets Myth apart from other STM collections is the assortment of fabrics used in the product lineup. In the past, the company has used identical materials and textures—in a variety of different colour choices—throughout a particular collection. For Myth, STM chose to use different materials and textures for each of the three colour selections (300D x 400D poly for the granite black, 300D x 600D nylon/poly blend for slate blue, and 300D x 600D poly triple diamond rip for windsor wine).

Pricing for items in the Myth Collection is as follows: 28L backpack £119.95; 18L backpack, £99.95; brief £69.95; and sleeve, £49.95. Dapper Wrapper retails for £24.95; Must Stash for £14.95.

Every house should have this. Review – Beyond products multidevice charging station. #tech

When it comes to phones in my house there are lots not only just me which is the main culprit but the rest of the family. There is always a rush for the charger and fights over plugs etc etc. Given I have more than the average plug ports in my place there is still never enough but now this product fixes that problem many people have today at home with mobile phones invading them.

This product is simple and compact and serves more than you might think. Its got multiple charge ports for all devices and tablets included. On the front is a wireless charge mat and the whole top of the unit is covered in a rubberized material which is nice to feel and this acts as a grip for your devices so when they are sat in there or placed on the mat they will not budge.

The unit is not huge by any means its small enough and can be fitted anywhere in the house or office. With the 5 ports to the right they take a standard USB connected cable which also can be purchased from the company which I recommend you do as they are short and keep things tidy. You will see the difference compared to long cables around your desk or counter top which get in the way and is very annoying.

This product is executed well with its compact design and functionality and you can charge more than your phones with it too. If you have smaller tech products with any compatible connection you are good to go which is great and again it saves space and a bloody mess.

Features

  • 4 USB charging ports
  • 1 Qi wireless charging pad
  • Smart charging for the quickest charge rates – automatically adjusts for each individual device
  • Only takes up one household socket – much more cable management friendly option
  • Soft touch high grip materials – devices won’t vibrate or slip off the station
  • Perfect for the family – fits neatly into any living area
  • Awesome addition to any man cave
  • High quality – CE, ROHS and FCC certified

Lifestyle, eating habits, technology… How much “sleep debt” are we in. #Tech #Sleep

Most Brits love a weekend lie-in, and there’s no better time to focus in on getting enough time between the sheets than Sleeptember. But, before the whole nation reaches for the snooze button, it’s worth factoring in what we give up when we sacrifice our free time to dreaming.

New research from bedroom experts Furniture Village has revealed that the average Brit loses a mammoth two years of free time to catching up on the ‘sleep debt’ they build up in the week, affecting travel plans, education and even reality TV ambitions. Along with a new calculator designed to show each user their own personal sleep debt, they’ve teamed up with sleep experts to advise on the best ways to re-set your sleeping habits – and keep some time in reserve for achieving your dreams, instead of just having them.

Sleepy Sacrifices

70% of the UK sleeps below the recommended amount, losing an average of 41 minutes of sleep every week night, with the pressures of deadlines and early starts responsible for less snoozing in a jam-packed week. Multiply that by five, and the UK is almost five hours behind what their bodies need to function by the time the weekend rolls around, causing most people to oversleep in an effort to ‘pay back’ their body for the missed time.

This payback schedule, however, has a huge impact on British free time and productivity. In the time spent catching up on those precious hours of sleep, the average Brit sacrifices the time it would take them to:

  1. Visit 37 countries
  2. Make 45 new friends
  3. Study 2 Bacherlor’s degrees
  4. Learn 19 languages
  5. Qualify as an airline pilot 6 times

With so much already written about the impact of loneliness, thwarted dreams and less relaxation on British wellbeing, why are we still doing it? The short answer is because we’re too tired to do anything else. If we didn’t catch up on that sleep, the accumulation of minutes and hours spent out of bed would eventually have physical and mental ramifications, leading to a nation of health problems, or even just a nation of office workers asleep on their desks come Monday morning. The secret lies in resetting our attitude to sleep in the week.

Resetting The Weekday

Luckily for everyone, health experts reckon that there’s a few very easy steps you can take to calming your mind and setting a bedtime routine that cancels out your sleep debt, negating the need to pay it back. Some easy tips that everyone can follow include:

Exercising at least 3 times a week. Exercising can help improve your ability to fall – and stay – asleep. And it’s not just a case of fatiguing the body! Studies have shown that regular exercise across a 16-week period can cause significant improvements in the quality and duration of sleep.

  • Cutting out caffeine after 2pm. Caffeine can stay in your blood for over 7 hours after you consume it — so that 4 o’clock espresso could be what’s keeping you from drifting off at 11PM. How long our bodies take to process caffeine varies from person to person, but by cutting it out after 2PM you can be sure it won’t be interfering with your sleep!
  • Setting aside screen devices for 2-3 hours before bed. The blue light emitted by devices like computer screens and mobile phones suppresses melatonin – a vital hormone for regulating sleep. Giving yourself as much screen-free time as you can in the hours before bed allows your body to relax and get ready for sleep.
  • Embracing mood lighting. Light is one of the main ways your body knows whether it’s meant to be awake or asleep – so if you’re sitting in a brightly lit room for hours before sleep, you’ll find it harder to wind down. Mood lighting’s a great method for letting your body and brain know that bedtime is on the way.

Calculate Your Sleep Debt

The quality of your sleep can have a huge impact on your day-to-day life, so don’t let anything get in-between you and forty winks. To calculate your own personal sleep debt, and get personalised recommendations for improving your sleeping life, check out Furniture Village’s sleep debt calculator here.
