Since it first struck on Friday May 12th, the WannaCry ransomware attack has spread to more than 150 countries worldwide, with upwards of 10,000 organisations and 200,000 people directly affected. Ransomware involves hackers capturing crucial files and demanding the payment of a sum of money by a set date for the resumption of access to the files. If the user doesn’t produce the predetermined money on time, they are threatened with permanent deletion of the files.
