Periscope the live streaming app has now updated and allows users to use it in landscape mode,it was annoying using your device in portrait mode so now we can use it the right way,This will allow a better viewing field,in short you can allow more to be seen..So all you need to do is update the app and you can then tilt your device and shoot in landscape mode.

Periscope says

You asked, we delivered! In the latest version of iOS and Android, Periscopers can now hold their phones either in portrait or landscape. Here’s how it works: Viewers can continue holding their device in portrait, or match the broadcaster’s orientation to maintain full screen video. Either way, you’ll never need to tilt your head to watch sideways video.

Also added is “Mutual Follow” where when you start a private broadcast, you can choose from a list of mutual followers,Share context is another addition but only on iOS for now which means when someone you follow shares a broadcast, it appears in your home feed noted with an indicator.

Never walk home alone again with “Companion App” #Apps #Safety

Waking home alone is not the wise move to make late at night and especially with the dark nights upon us daylight hours are less thus leaving some vulnerable earlier, the same applies now to the morning time as Winter approaches, this is when you might be potentially attacked which is the last thing one would want to happen.. Regardless prevention is better than cure and you should try to remain in a group or at least have a taxi or lift but it does happen when we may ramble on or continue to walk whilst trying to hail a cab..

There is now a new app to give you company if you will and you can have someone remotely monitor your journey home and its called Companion App which is a peer to peer operation via your smartphone..You can pick family members or friends who do not actually have to have the app installed and they can monitor your moves and it alerts them if there is no response and you can contact local authorities.

#Google #Microsoft #Mozilla & #Netflix are just some members of “AllianceForOpenMedia” By @VicenteA_George #Media #Codecs

We live in an age when almost everything is located on Internet and every day more and more of our Media are at some point, unplayable due to some “Format Restriction” of any kind.

Well, soon that’s about to end thanks to the recently announced Alliance for Open Media.

Starting on September 1st Seven of the most greatest Media creator have created this “Justice League” of Formats and Codecs for video and media in general.

“The Open and royalty-free format for next-generation
ultra high definition media”

Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix have made partnership into this Open-Source Project to reach to ultimate goal of “develop next-generation media formats, codecs and technologies in the public interest.”

Something that really complicate media consumption in the format of the video we’re trying to see.

For example:

For using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 formats, a royalty must be paid to MPEG LA.

Mozilla has Daala

Google is has on VP9 and 10

Etc.

That’s why should not come as surprise that this guys wanna save some money and as result we have a more persistent and pleasant usability of video formats.

What they want to do as main task is to create media:

Interoperable and open.

Optimized for the web.

Scalable to any modern device at any bandwidth.

Designed with a low computational footprint and optimized for hardware.

Capable of consistent, highest-quality, real-time video delivery.

Flexible for both commercial and non-commercial content, including user-generated content.

(Something worth the mention is Apple absence in the group, which is easily explainable.

Apple owns QuickTime and they need to pay anyone to implement videos on  iTunes or Apple TV.)

The license name will be Apache 2.0 and will work under the W3C patent rules.

Opportunity For Devs Passionate About Social Gaming. #Devs #Social #Gaming

In January 2014 we covered a new social app developed by Damien Kieran and Gerald Gallagher called Picguesso.

Just to give a brief recap. The guys at Picguesso came up with an innovative concept that transforms picture messages into a novel and fun picture puzzle game. We are currently in the era of the picture message, but the team at Picguesso feel “the death of our distinctively human skill of interactive communication is creeping upon us. Our images are currently being posted into the vacuum of cyberspace to everybody but at the same time nobody”. Damien explains “It’s quite innovative with nothing currently like it available on the app stores and can generate hours of fun. It encourages players to create their own personalised picture puzzles and with its social features it promotes group based gaming and players to be more imaginative and creative with their devices camera/gallery”.

There are many benefits of gaming with Picguesso which include:

  • Group based gaming
  • It encourages human interaction
  • Increases brain function
  • Family bonding
  • Develops general knowledge and spelling abilities
  • Educates jnr. without promoting education to jnr.
  • And it’s just a fun way to kill some time

Since our article has been published, the guys have worked with some of the country’s top minds with regard to further development of the concept and a Picguesso software ecosystem which spans across mobile, TV and education. Considerable progress has been made into investigating the market potential of the ecosystem. The companies and initiatives involved were:

  • Vital for Ideas – An EU funded regional development program which specialises in fast tracking innovative ideas with huge market potential to experienced implementers
  • Irelands Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) – A government led initiative that recognises outstanding ideas and commercial ventures
  • SOSventures – SOSventures is a venture capital and investment management firm that provides seed, venture and growth stage funding to startup companies in the technology sector.

The guys have gained some great connections along the way that have verified the huge market potential behind this and can provide assistance on getting this off the ground but unfortunately the guys themselves cannot commit to the further development of the project due to a change of circumstances and feel it would be a massive shame to let such an innovative messaging system simply cease due to their availability.

If you think you have the right skills, passion and commitment to take the reins of the Picguesso eco-system, the work could be very rewarding.

For further information you can contact the lads on either damien@picguesso.com or gerald@picguesso.com
