Thes posts allow award recipients the opportunity to express their gratitude for the coworkers who recognise them and the company that provides such opportunities. Reward Stories, featured on the Culture Hub, also gives nominators the ability to pause and reflect on the shared success, hard work, collaboration and support they’ve encountered while motivating other employees to pursue such experiences through their contributions at work.

“Human Intelligence is an entirely new way of approaching data, using it to empower humans with the knowledge they need to lead with purpose and compassion,” said Mosley. “Embedding culture and insights into the flow of work enables organisations to cultivate magnetic workplace environments where every recognition moment drives meaningful business outcomes.”

These intuitive, powerful tools – individually and combined – give organisations the resources and capabilities to do recognition right. They surface content that celebrates the goodness of making work human and brings a company’s culture and values to life in real-time.

“AI and data are tools—but humanity is the foundation,” Mosley continues. “Human Intelligence is a testament to our belief that when organisations recognise and understand their people, they unlock their greatest potential. The future of work is human.”

“One of the things that sets Workhuman apart is its ability to be really sophisticated about telling a story with the data,” said Lisa Monaco, SVP, Employee Experience at Moody’s. “Workhuman is doubling down on that through the Human Intelligence tools – and the functions embedded in the organisation, like Workhuman iQ, which can really do this work and be an extension for our companies. I think this is so very valuable.”

Over a third of Irish employees admit to faking activity at work – Workhuman Survey

Workhuman the Irish tech unicorn revolutionizing the way employees celebrate, connect with, and appreciate each other in the workplace, today announces new findings from its Human Workplace Index, which found that 36% of Irish employees admit faking activity at work, with 37% of these individuals citing the pursuit of a better work-life balance as a key motivation for this behaviour. Burnout (27%) and unrealistic expectations (25%) were also factors cited as reasons. The survey further details how employees spend their time when pretending to be busy, with 42% scrolling through social media and 41% handling personal errands during work hours.

The Human Workplace Index surveyed 1,000 full-time employees in Ireland and was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into employee engagement and productivity.

The survey also uncovers a correlation between employee engagement and the likelihood of faking activity at work. According to the findings, employees who are less engaged are more prone to pretend they are working. Specifically, 54% of respondents admitted that when they aren’t feeling engaged, they do the bare minimum to get through the day, while 17% confessed to faking activity during these periods of low engagement.

Additionally, the data shows that 29% of employees reported they are required to use time-tracking software on their work devices, and 72% of managers believe it is important to know the exact hours their direct reports work. This emphasis on monitoring could unintentionally lead to more faking activity, as employees may feel pressured to appear busy. On the other hand, supportive management practices can have a positive impact. Nearly half of the employees (46%) believe that their manager’s involvement helps them perform their jobs better, while 32% say that their manager helps remove roadblocks, which can potentially increase employees’ productivity.

Niamh Graham, Senior Vice President of Global Human Experience, Workhuman, said“The reality is that most Irish employees aren’t faking activity, but many feel compelled to do so. Our research findings highlight deeper issues around workplace expectations, and the illusion of being ‘always on’, with many employees feeling they need to fake activity to appear busy, rather than being genuinely productive. To address this, companies should focus on building a high-trust culture where employees are recognized for their results. High-trust, collaborative working environments, combined with meaningful recognition, can drive greater engagement, higher productivity, and a stronger sense of belonging and purpose. This approach not only reduces the need to fake activity but fosters a more motivated and productive workforce overall.”

More than half of employees in Ireland suffer from productivity anxiety

Workhuman, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, today announces new findings from its Human Workplace Index, which found that 64% of employees in Ireland are suffering from productivity anxiety. Recognition is a key element in helping to improve employees’ wellbeing, with 57% saying they would feel less anxious if they received proper recognition for their work.

The research also found that although 58% of employees said they feel more productive at the office, a gender disparity exists in perceived in-office productivity. While 71% of male employees felt they accomplished more on in-office days, only 33% of female employees reported the same. Despite this, women are more likely to work in the office five days a week compared to men, with 58% of women required to be in the office, versus 30% of men.

The survey of 1,000 full-time employees in Ireland was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into workplace sentiment, productivity and wellbeing.

Additionally, while work-life balance is highlighted as the most important aspect of workplace wellbeing for 65% of Irish employees and 31% believe that companies facilitating work-life balance are more successful in fostering employee-employer trust, there are significant disparities in the distribution of wellness benefits between men and women. Nearly half of employees report receiving wellness benefits or perks in addition to standard benefits and say they improve their overall wellbeing, but men are more than twice as likely to have access to perks like gym memberships, healthy snacks, and in-office wellness spaces compared to women.

Niamh Graham, Senior Vice President of Global Human Experience, Workhuman, said“With ways of working constantly evolving, it is not surprising that employees may be feeling more anxious about whether they are achieving enough at work, and being noticed for it. With recognition being the number one factor employees stated can help with their anxiety, leaders must start prioritizing this to foster a supportive work environment.

Our survey also shows a discrepancy between men and women when it comes to working arrangements and wellbeing perks. With more than half of women saying they are more productive at home, but most of them being required to work five days a week on-site, it’s clear that leadership needs to be more in tune with the individual needs of its employees when designing flexible work policies and wellbeing benefits packages. Understanding and addressing these gaps is essential for companies to foster a fair, supportive, and productive work environment for all employees”

Workhuman Launches New Reporting Feature in Admin Hub to Elevate Recognition Program Management

WorkhumanÒ, the company revolutionizing the way employees celebrate, connect with, and appreciate each other in the workplace, is introducing new Reporting features in its Admin Hub, enhancing a Program Manager’s control and access to insights of their organization’s Social Recognition program.  Breaking down traditionally rigid HR reporting systems, Admin Hub’s updated Reporting functionality provides the ability to adapt report details, increases the efficient process of customizing and disseminating data, and improves collaboration in the analysis and interpretation of data.

The data from an organization’s Social Recognition program holds a treasure trove of insights: data points like the percentage of employees who give or receive recognition, how frequently it is given, and the dollar amount associated with each award. This information can help track recognition program outcomes and impact; the latest features now allow for upgraded report management and access functions that make better use of that recognition data.

‘Manage Reports’ feature – Enhanced Program Reporting

Workhuman’s ‘Manage Reports’ feature equips HR and business leaders with the intelligence they need to turn recognition into business success. With ‘Manage Reports,’ program managers can create and customize reports to meet the specific needs of different department leaders, modify data measures and fields in real time to accommodate ever-evolving initiatives, and add charts and graphs to seamlessly visualize data in presentations and communications.

Manage Reports facilitates the efficient communication of data across the organization. By presenting reports in a self-service manner, the data becomes more comprehensible and actionable for different stakeholders.

‘Report Access’ function – Effortless Access Management

The new ‘Report Access’ feature eliminates the need for complex Excel files or additional Workhuman account team support – allowing managers to authorize users across the company to access and centralize their reports in one location. Program Managers can provide report access on-demand, reducing the burden of ad-hoc data requests.

With ‘My Reports,’ authorized users can easily find the data they need, viewing and downloading report data as required. They can access up to three main report types, including Award Activity Reports; Recognition Intelligence, with dashboards offering a comprehensive view of recognition program performance; and, if applicable, Conversations, which displays activity like participation rates and performance metrics across the Conversations feature.

This new feature streamlines report access and enhances the efficiency of managing recognition programs by making it easier for authorized users to access the necessary data.

“Workhuman’s platform captures those authentic human moments within an organization and turns them into actionable insights, revealing patterns in the data that can inform strategy and actively shape culture. Our latest updates empower Program Managers to uncover this valuable intelligence more efficiently and effectively,” said Zoe Peterson-Ward, Workhuman’s Chief Customer Officer. “We’re revolutionizing the reporting experience for our customers, offering program owners capabilities and visibility like never before. What was once a cumbersome process is now an on-demand, self-service one, and we’re thrilled to announce that we have even more enhancements planned for later this year, all aimed at providing our customers with the ultimate recognition program experience.”

For 25 years, Workhuman has pioneered the employee recognition market. The company’s Social Recognition solution, backed by data and science, cultivates appreciation, enhances performance, fosters social connections, and promotes inclusivity. As Workhuman and Gallup research has shown, a strategic investment in recognition can boost a company’s bottom line.”

Workhuman research finds 1 in 4 employees expect to respond to work emails over Christmas

Workhuman®, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, today announces new findings from its Human Workplace Index, which found that 1 in 4 (27%) of employees expect they will be responding to work emails over Christmas. While work pressures are getting to employees, more than half (58%) of employees in Ireland say they are also stressed about the financial burden of buying Christmas gifts this year.

The survey of 1,000 full-time employees in Ireland was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into attitudes and expectations around the holidays, including how work cultures support employees during the season, as well as gifting and giving habits.

The research suggests that many find it difficult to take a break over the holidays. Some 22% of employees say they will not be able to fully switch off from work over their Christmas holidays while 28% admitted that their large workload would prevent them from taking as much time off as they would like over the holidays.

The survey also found that, though the spirit of the season is alive and well, many employees may find this a stressful time of year. Per the research, employees expect to spend an average of €974 each on Christmas gifts this year. More than half of employees (54%) responded that they feel stressed out about buying holiday gifts— however this doesn’t seem to be hindering the amount of people they shop for, with nearly a quarter of employees saying they will buy holiday presents for up to 10 people.

Workhuman’s survey found that as people get into the festive spirit, the majority of employees who receive end-of-year bonuses are using them to pay for Christmas presents. More than a quarter (27%) of respondents who receive end-of-year bonuses say they are essential for affording Christmas presents, while a further 53% said they alleviate some of the financial burden. Despite this, over half (51%) of respondents would prefer to receive smaller spot bonuses throughout the year rather than one larger lump sum at the end of the year.

Many employees expressed an interest in employee recognition as a means of supplementing their Christmas budgets. Workhuman’s survey shows that 66% of employees would like to use points from an employee recognition programme to buy gifts. Employees are using Workhuman’s recognition platform in this way, with smartwatches, air fryers and headphones among the top purchases for those based in Europe.

When it comes to gifting trends in the workplace, 44% of employees receive Christmas gifts from their colleagues and 27% do a ‘Secret Santa’ at work. Some 32% get presents from their employer or manager and, of these, 95% say they usually, or always, like them. However, 12% admitted they usually re-gift them to someone else.

Niamh Graham, Senior Vice President of Global Human Experience, Workhuman: “Our research has shown that while this is an exciting time of year, it can also be a stressful one. Financial, familial, and professional pressures can impact employees over the holiday season. When done right, company culture can help to alleviate some of this stress, rather than being a cause of it. Ensuring employees are using their paid time off and have a solid coverage plan so they can truly unplug over the holidays is a practice leadership should demonstrate and encourage.

“Employee experience initiatives can also help get at some of this stress; spot bonuses and redeemable recognition points can be partic

58% of employees in Ireland use AI tools as part of their job

Workhuman, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, today announces new findings from its Human Workplace Index, which found that 58% of employees in Ireland now use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of their job. Moreover, some 40% of employees have claimed work carried out by AI as their own. The research shows that of these, half of them were rumbled by a colleague or manager.

The survey of 1,000 full-time employees in Ireland was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into the use of AI in the workplace. It found that 58% of employees in Ireland now use AI tools as part of their job and 30% of all employees are using them frequently.

With 47% of users saying they use generative AI (such as ChatGPT) for drafting emails, while 44% use it for brainstorming, the research suggests that AI is helping employees with some of the more difficult interactions in work. Some 28% of those surveyed have turned to AI for help or inspiration when asking for a promotion – 36% said they would consider it – and 20% have used it to ask for a raise. AI has also helped 22% of employees with the delicate matter of resigning from their job.

The survey also shows that AI can help companies to retain skilled talent. The introduction or increased use of AI would make 46% of employees more likely to stay in their jobs (versus 22% who would be less likely to stay), with 71% of those saying it would make them more productive. Moreover, 70% believe AI will lead to better job satisfaction and a better work-life balance, while the same proportion believe it will create new job opportunities – significantly higher than the 42% who believe AI will eventually replace their job.

One of the key benefits of AI highlighted by Workhuman’s survey is the efficiency gains. The majority (88%) of those using AI in the workplace say that it is increasing their productivity. For 49%, it is reducing their workload, while 47% are spending less time on repetitive tasks, enabling them to be more strategic in how they complete their work. When asked what they do with the time that AI gives back to their day, 50% of those using it said they have social chats with colleagues, 46% help other members of their team, and 42% focus on tasks that they wouldn’t have otherwise had time for.

By supporting people in their roles, the survey suggests that AI is helping to reduce stress among the working population. It found that the majority (91%) of employees say that AI is making their job easier or more manageable, while 86% say it is improving their job satisfaction and 84% say it is improving their sense of wellbeing in the workplace. In fact, Workhuman’s research found that employees who use AI in their job are generally happier than those who don’t. Of those who described themselves as being happy in work right now, 64% are using AI – versus 26% usage among employees who describe themselves as unhappy in work.

Reflecting the power of AI to positively impact the culture of an organisation, such as removing bias from the recruitment process or highlighting unconscious prejudices, many of those working in organisations that are using AI believe it is helping their company to become more diverse (cited by 85%) and more inclusive (82%).

Jonathan Hyland, Chief Technology Officer, Workhuman, said: “Our research shows that there is an increasing level of comfort with AI among the working population. Employees are using it as a tool not only to enhance their work, but also to manage their workloads and stress levels. It is helping with inclusivity, too, with 84% of employees saying that it is supporting more inclusive communications and collaborations with colleagues. As more organisations adopt AI, these kinds of benefits are growing in number and compounding to have a positive impact on wellbeing and the ever-challenging issue of retention.

“Businesses are realising that AI isn’t going to be optional and that means that their employees will need to understand it and embrace it. Yet, our research found that 20% of those who are working in companies that use AI have received no training in its use or application. It’s important that we keep the human element in the process in order to maximise our use of AI. Employees are constantly evolving and upskilling, and AI should be used to enhance the human experience – not replace it entirely. Employers and their teams must work together to find the AI solutions that work best for everyone. Only then will they be able to realise the true benefits of AI by unearthing the tools that will make a difference.”

“At Workhuman, we are excited that, starting in December, our Customer Services team will be actively working with AI to digest case summaries. Currently, agents spend 60% of their time manually reviewing cases, so using AI as a solution will help accelerate response times, increasing productivity and customer satisfaction. The idea of using AI to support with case summaries came directly from our Customer Service Agents during Workhuman’s Hackathon, and we’re excited to see how it will enhance our employee satisfaction.”

One-in-six admit to feeling awkward about giving gratitude in work

Workhuman®, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, today, on World Gratitude Day, announces the results of its latest Human Workplace Index. The new research found that almost one-in-six full-time employees admit to feeling awkward about giving gratitude, while 15% say they don’t always know how to show it.

The survey of 555 full-time employees in Ireland was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into gratitude in the workplace. The research, conducted in September 2023, found that 49% of workplaces are celebrating World Gratitude Day today and 71% of employees say they work in an environment where showing gratitude is highly valued.

Workhuman’s survey found that it is employees’ peers, rather than managers, who are most likely to dish out kudos. In fact, some 20% of employees say that they have not been thanked by their boss in a month or more. Workhuman’s research found that 41% of employees say they are most likely to receive gratitude from their peers, while 29% say their boss is the most likely person to show appreciation. Just 10% of employees say members of the C-Suite show the most gratitude at work.

When asked why they themselves might avoid showing gratitude to someone else in their workplace, 25% of employees say that for gratitude to be meaningful, it shouldn’t be given too frequently. However, Workhuman’s research indicates that gratitude is highly valued by employees and 23% of full-time employees (479,320 people*) admit to having left a job due to a lack of gratitude. Meanwhile, 33% would be willing to leave a current or future role if gratitude wasn’t shown.

The Human Workplace Index found that being shown appreciation at work has many positive impacts on employees’ attitudes to their job. Among the positive impacts, 59% said it makes them more likely to go the extra mile for colleagues, 57% say it makes them more eager to work in-person with their colleagues, and 49% say it makes them want to show gratitude to others.

In recognition of the positive impact of appreciation, the majority of employees say that monetary and non-monetary rewards have either increased or stayed the same in their workplace. Monetary rewards, such as salary raises and bonuses, have increased for 32% of employees and stayed the same for 55%. Similarly, non-monetary rewards, such as shout-outs and verbal praise, have increased for 29% of employees and stayed the same for 58%.

Workhuman’s survey found that workplaces in Ireland are more likely to celebrate World Gratitude than those in the US, with just 27% of workplaces celebrating it there, versus 49% in Ireland. In fact, employees in Ireland are so keen to celebrate World Gratitude Day in their workplace that 35% would ditch Valentine’s Day workplace celebrations over it, 31% would do away with Halloween and 30% would even scrap Christmas.

Niamh Graham, SVP Global Human Experience, Workhuman, said: “We all dedicate a huge proportion of our lives to work, so we want to be treated like it means something. It is encouraging to see that the majority of organisations value the power of appreciation and that World Gratitude Day is being celebrated by so many today.

“Gratitude brings people together and it is evidently something that is cherished by employees. This World Gratitude Day, I encourage business leaders to reflect on your workplace culture and ensure that you are creating an environment that makes saying ‘thank you’ easy and second nature to your employees. After all, where would we be without the humans in our workplaces – they cultivate and nurture culture and workplace experience, and showing them gratitude should be a key practice throughout your organisation.”

Workhuman launches recognition app for Microsoft Teams

Workhuman®, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, has strengthened its market-leading Social Recognition platform by launching the all-new Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams. The application, which is now available for download in the Microsoft Teams app store, gives an organisation’s employees full access to all features of Workhuman’s powerful recognition platform from directly within Microsoft Teams, where employees are working, meeting, creating, communicating, and collaborating every day. Leveraging the latest capabilities in the Microsoft Teams platform, this new application allows Workhuman to offer its clients a way to elevate the awareness of and real-time participation in their employee recognition programmes.

“In the modern workplace, no one wants to stop what they’re doing to navigate to another application. We’ve radically simplified the user experience so that employees can participate in recognition where employees already are, natively within Microsoft Teams,” said Jim Drewry, Workhuman VP, Product. “This integration enables enterprises to meet and exceed performance and culture goals by recognising the whole human at any time, from any device with Teams access. Professional contributions, service milestones, and personal achievements are all highlighted and showcased in our Teams app homepage. Ultimately, pervasive recognition creates employees who are motivated to align with company culture and goals because they feel seen and recognised as human beings. This vastly improves employee perception and sentiment, which in turn means better business outcomes.”

Building upon Workhuman’s initial Teams integration, which supports users launching the recognition nomination process within Teams chats and Teams channels, the new app offers:

  • A native welcome page that enables instant recognition and showcases an ‘always on’ awards feed, and a highlight reel of years-of-service awards and celebrations without requiring employees to log into a company intranet.
  • Award notifications within the Teams Activity tab, and the ability to add kudos and congratulations to colleagues throughout the organisation who are receiving recognition or celebrating key life and work milestones, creating a more cohesive company culture experience.
  • The ability to deliver ‘in-the-moment’ recognition within a Teams chat, channel, or even meeting (with a Microsoft Teams meeting extension)– on mobile, desktop, or web versions of Teams.
  • The ability for employees to see their own points balance as a reminder of the recognition they have received from peers, and one-click access the Workhuman Store to browse and redeem for merchandise, gift cards, charities, or Experiences.
  • Teams administrators the ability to centrally permission and deploy the application into the organisation’s Microsoft Teams environment, with granular controls and strong security options.

Research from Workhuman and Gallup explored the impact of recognition on a business. One of the main findings found that one in four employees in Gallup’s global database strongly agree that they have received recognition or praise for doing good work in the last week. However, the study also found that if this number was doubled, businesses could see a 9% improvement in productivity, as well as $91,989,474 in gained employee productivity. Additional research found that when employees experience recognition for life events and work milestones, they are three times as likely to strongly agree they feel connected to culture.

The Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams harnesses all the power of an enterprise’s human resources and employee experience strategy and delivers it to a captivated audience to spark improved employee engagement, connection, retention, and productivity at scale. The release of the Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams is the next step in Workhuman’s evolution of bringing the power of its entire platform through the digital employee experience offered by Microsoft 365; including Microsoft Teams, Viva, Outlook, SharePoint, and more.
