Tech Review – Realme GT 2

The Realme GT2 is part of a duo of devices that has been recently released by the company and the GT2 pro is the top tier in the series costing slightly more but having said that this model does not skimp out really and after testing for a few weeks It has been one of daily drivers for that period and only one thing let it down which was the sound on video recording which has been notable on several videos I have used it to shoot reviews on and in the video review samples itself which will be seen below but other than that there is not much else to complain about if you want a new phone today.. We go through the phones features in the unboxing below so be sure to look at this and see what to expect.

Unboxing

Design and build

The design of this device might be borrowed from the predecessor however I am fine with that, the paper green model we have feels really nice on the back but it still looks clean and looks cool for me, the lens set up is fine with a hump that is not huge unlike other devices out there and kept simple and with the realme branding next to it gives it some balance, this is also slightly raised, after that the rear is clean with a textured back giving you additional grip.

The corners are rounded and not sharp so holding the phone in hand is fine, up top there is a mic on the bottom is your sim tray another mic the USB-C port and a speaker and finally on the left is the volume toggles and all the buttons are the same colour as the device which is nice.

Display

The display is fine for me and will be for most people thought the buzzword used today is the 120 hz refresh rate which being honest most would not know the difference if coming from a 90hz the panel is an amoled 1080p getting up to 1300 nits peak 1080x2400px resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, 398 ppi which makes for great viewing at night or out in the sun.

Under the hood and performance

OK so they have their own skin realme UI 3.0 running on top of Android 12 and i find this is good overall with a nice user experience and settings to mess around with to customize the phone to your liking and this is one thing I like about my phone and having the option to do that and this is the case here with it allowing you to do almost anything you want to get that look you desire, asides that we have the usual spec sheet that some seem to think is what is most important so for the spec nerds you get a 5000 mAh battery which last as day easily and that is being a power user and not letting it off easily, and using it all day long for browsing social media and much more.

Also it has the latest silicon inside with the Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G, don’t let the 5G make you think it is a better phone because 5G for us here in Ireland is shite and the uptake has shown this but expect a push from the operators this year to get people on it but my advice is steer clear for another year with 5G. When it comes to performance overall it outdone my PIxel 6 with video crunching twice over when tested side by side using the same app I always do to stitch videos together so for a time element this is good if you are one to use your phone for such work.

Anyone using this device for day to day use on like most do today will have no issues on this phone multitasking.

Camera

The camera, I will not bore you with the specs but lay them out and you can watch the videos below which show night and day footage and more, the camera is decent and does well for the most but the only thing is the audio experience which can hopefully  You have a 50 MP rear camera f/1.8, 24mm, 1/1.56, OIS; Ultrawide 8 MP, f/2.2, 119 and a Macro 2 MP, f/2.4.

The front camera is a 16 MP, f/2.5, 26mm (wide) and i found the front camera quite good but they have been improving greatly on most phones these days anyway so for the selfie fans you are in luck.

Nighttime samples

Conclusion

The phone is good for the price and that is what people want these days you also get a very good fingerprint sensor which is under the screen and I have had no issues with this at all during the test period, between this and the GT 2 pro this one makes a bit more sense I think and the better buy as there is not much difference between the two but that said nothing is to stop you getting the more expensive model.

The realme GT2 was sent to us to review with no compensation, input or preview, as with all our reviews we are transparent and don’t use stock images you see the tech in hand for context.

realme joins forces with top operators to provide ECO Rating labelling for smartphones

realme, the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand and top 5 Android smartphone brand globally, furthers its commitment and vision of being a sustainable company that contributes to a better world, as the realme 8 5G and 8i smartphones have been recognised by the cross-industry Eco Rating labelling scheme.

Eco Rating has been created jointly by five of Europe’s leading mobile operators to launch the pan-industry labelling scheme – Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica (operating under the O2 and Movistar brands), Telia Company and Vodafone.

By evaluating the environmental impact of the entire process of production, transportation, use and disposal of mobile phones, Eco Rating helps customers to make informed and sustainable choices, providing an overall score from 1 to 100. The closer the score is to 100, the better the sustainability of the device.

The realme 8 5G and 8i have both been awarded high scores of 76/100 and 80/100, respectively. Both devices achieved similarly high results in the key area of resource efficiency, with the 8 5G being awarded a score of 85/100 and the 8i 90/100, representing a low impact on the scarcity of resources.

Commenting on the new ratings, Madhav Sheth, Vice President of realme, President of realme International Business Group, CEO of realme Europe, said, “As an industry, we have a commitment towards a better future, and at realme, being transparent with our users via the Eco Rating labelling scheme is a positive step towards realising that future. We at realme stand by this with the new 8 5G and 8i ratings, as well as our E-Waste Management Program which incentivises the safe recycling of electronic waste and strive to launch the most eco-friendly products in the near future.”

“In line with a series of products we have launched, including smartphones, earphones, and tablets, we proactively advocate the combination of technology and environment, Going and Living Green.”

“Simultaneously, we are developing a unique eco-friendly smartphone, with endeavours to tremendously reduce CO2 emissions. The product will arrive in Europe in the near future.”

First look at the €199 realme 8i with 120Hz refresh rate #realme8i

Building upon the success and maintaining the momentum of the overwhelmingly favoured realme 8 series, today, realme will launch one more best-seller candidate: realme 8i. Since its inception, realme has been carrying out the mission of democratising tech for all, by providing cutting edge technology at an affordable price.

This time, the realme 8i brings the first 120Hz ultra smooth experience with a never before seen affordable price. Equipped with a powerful G96 processor, 120Hz display, and up to 7GB Dynamic RAM while also featuring a massive 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charge, realme 8i is poised to be the ultimate smooth superhero.

realme 8i comes with Helio G96’s debut in Europe. The Helio G96 possesses two large A75 cores and 6 small A55 cores, and its main frequency reaches up to 2.05GHz.

The Helio G96 processor is jointly overseen and launched by realme and Mediatek, demonstrating realme’s determination in ensuring quality control and product development. Seven senior engineers were assigned to guide the whole process. Over the course of 106 days, they had technically optimised 3 major performance features, making the realme G96 the only G9 series chip that can power 120Hz displays for updated smooth gaming performance. This is also realme’s first screen in which the brightness can reach as low as 1 nit.

Combined with high-quality performance, the realme 8i also offers the ultimate immersive viewing experience with its 120Hz refresh rate, 6.6inch full screen with a 90.8% screen-to-body ratio, allowing more people to enjoy the ultra-smooth experience together.

Apart from processor and screen display, realme also upgrades the smooth experience with DRE technology, Dynamic RAM Expansion, where 4GB RAM can be upgraded to 7GB RAM (only 4GB+128GB version). The DRE technology is originally derived from computers and is now applied to smartphones for comprehensive uplift in overall smoothness. Not only do apps open faster, but background processes also move faster.

The realme 8i not only delivers a smooth experience but the 5000mAh Battery has also been optimised for ultimate, long-lasting performance that doesn’t affect the day-to-day experience. With just a single charge, this device lets you talk to your friends for 40 hours straight, listen to 1,200 songs or watch 18 movies.

For now we take a dive into the new device and will have a full review soon so if you have any questions feel free to ask below or on our You Tube video below

realme concludes Inaugural 5G Summit with commitment to bring 5G phones to 100 million young consumers in next three years

realme, the the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand, today announced at its inaugural 5G summit that it would enable 100 million young consumers to use 5G smartphones within the next three years. At the summit, which was held in partnership with GSMA, Counterpoint Research and Qualcomm, realme also revealed that new models in GT series, realme 5G performance and camera flagships, will be launched in June and July 2021, respectively, among several other corporate initiatives to promote 5G adoption globally.

With the theme “Making 5G Global: Accessibility for All”, the 5G summit brought together leaders from industry association, research institution, and component vendor and device manufacturer to share their insights on several 5G topics: current global 5G connectivity – the driving forces behind it and the technical aspect to 5G evolution; the unique relationship between 5G and the younger generation; and how to further facilitate 5G accessibility in the future.

At the summit, realme reaffirmed its commitment to become a “popularizer of 5G” and shared its latest pledge to advance the adoption of 5G in global markets and bring the technology to more users worldwide. In 2020, realme launched 14 5G devices in 21 markets, accounting for around 40% of all its products. By 2022, the company aims to increase the number of its 5G offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70% across 50 markets. realme also plans to take the industry lead in launching a 5G mobile phone at a US$100 price point in the next few years, a move that is set to further accelerate 5G adoption, especially across the rapidly emerging economies.

Madhav Sheth, VP and CEO of India and Europe, realme, said at the summit, “Starting with our first 5G model, the realme X50, we have been exploring new design concepts and technical innovations to bring users more slimline and design-rich 5G phones that have a powerful performance. We believe that in the 5G era, helping to accelerate the adoption of this new technology is a crucial mission for realme. We will work hard to help popularize 5G by listening more to consumers’ needs, pushing forward product innovation, and helping to build the broader 5G ecosystem with our industry partners.”

Johnny Chen, Brand Director, realme, added, “realme believes that 5G is for the younger generation – internet natives who are looking for ways to connect and express themselves beyond the physical world. As a brand that’s dedicated to young consumers, realme tries to listen carefully to what they expect from 5G technology and get them more involved in the process of creating a better 5G user experience. By empowering the young, we hope they can, in turn, become the forerunners of 5G adoption and help lead more people into the 5G era.”

In 2021, realme plans to set up more than ten 5G pop-up stores around the world allowing young people to create exclusive spaces where they can enjoy 5G experiences through cloud gaming, ultra-clear AR, live broadcasting and other popular 5G applications.

Also joining the summit was Kalvin Bahia, Principal Economist, GSMA Intelligence. He commented, “As of May this year, 60 countries around the world had launched 5G – 12 of them are emerging markets and mostly in Asia. While the growth of 5G coverage is encouraging, a survey by GSMA shows that other barriers remain for widespread adoption of the new technology amongst consumers, such as affordability of the devices, lack of digital literacy and skills, and costs of mobile data. But nevertheless, the transition to 5G is inevitable across the world, and 5G is expected to bring USD 600 billion to the global economy over the next decade.”

Peter Richardson, VP and Co-founder, Counterpoint Research agreed that the growth of 5G has been impressive and the rapid reduction in smartphone prices has been one of the main drivers. He noted, “By the end of last year, we saw some highly competitive 5G products offered at affordable prices in China, with realme being the most aggressive with its V3 5G selling at around US$145. realme is helping to popularize the technology across many other countries with a series of compelling products with great specifications at surprisingly affordable prices.”

Mr. Rajen Vagadia, VP and President, Qualcomm India & SAARC said at the summit, “The upgrade to 5G chipsets pushes platform processing performance to remarkable levels, allowing us to maximize the step change improvements we are seeing in today’s smartphone components and hardware. Just as important, we are delivering 5G to all tiers, ensuring it is accessible to broad segments across developed and emerging markets alike.”

To support the global adoption of 5G products, realme will establish seven R&D centers around the world in 2021, dedicated to exploring innovative 5G technologies and products. At present, 90% of realme’s R&D resources have been converted to 5G technolo
