Twelve South Curve Nano Review

The Twelve South Curve Nano is a new simple accessory which is ideal for those who want to keep their hands free and their smartphone at hand at any angle or in portrait or landscape mode.

This is a premium built product which looks well and comes in several colour and portable and being portable in this case is perfect for those that travel like myself and can be used at home or in the office, it is also ideal for your bedside locker or even your kitchen to watch cooking classes and so on without the need to hold your phone keeping your hands free.

For me it is ideal for travel and home use and can be placed beside my laptop where i can look at social media or emails not disrupting my work flow on the laptop I also can use on my bedside locker to watch media which I have a bad habit of and also easy access to interact with social media videos and podcasts etc without the need to pick the phone up.

This as mentioned works in portrait and landscape but also works at angles and with the hinge being solid it can go to any angle and almost 90 degrees depending on how heavy the phone is.

The base has a rubber footing which also keeps it in place and wont mark your desk or locker, overall this is a nice looking simple effective product that is small and light yet robust and not intrusive to your set up in the office or at home. I tested several devices and MagSafe compatible and Qi2 devices all work fine even with cases on and devices not compatible but have cases with MagSafe will also work.

Check the video below for a closer look.

Features

  • Holds MagSafe/Qi2 phones securely
  • Adjusts smoothly to any angle
  • Stays stable with anti-slip base
  • Ultra-light and compact

New EU law will improve phone and battery life

Starting this summer, all phones and tablets sold in the EU and Ireland must have more durable batteries, greater resistance to drops, and be easier to repair.

That is according to Fine Gael MEP for the Midlands Northwest, Nina Carberry, who has hailed the new law as a key measure in enhancing consumer rights and holding manufacturers to higher standards when designing products.

The ‘Ecodesign Regulation’ will mean that new mobile phones and tablets must be capable of holding at least 800 charges, while retaining at least 80% of their initial battery capacity.

Phones must also be able to survive at least 45 accidental drops, and be repairable for 7 years, with manufacturers required to supply key spare parts within 5-10 working days.

“Phones that last longer mean less waste, less cost on repairs, and far less frustration for the consumer. ”

“This regulation is a powerful reminder of how the EU shapes daily life. It will also reduce the environmental impact of electronic devices, promoting greater sustainability across Europe”, Carberry concluded

JCB Phone Launches New Rugged Smartphone Range

JCB Phone today unveiled its latest lineup of rugged smartphones, the JCB Toughphone E10, M20, and P20, as the company embarks on international expansion across Europe, Africa, Australasia and Latin America. Engineered for professionals in construction, logistics, agriculture, and emergency services, the new range delivers a powerful combination of durability, intelligent design, and performance in the toughest conditions.

At the heart of the launch is the JCB Toughphone E10, a slim, ultra-tough smartphone built for modern B2B deployments. Featuring Android 15, eSIM support, and multi-day battery life, it delivers serious enterprise capability. Ideal for fleet rollouts, the E10 combines outstanding value with premium rugged credentials including IP69K/MIL-STD-810H ratings, night vision camera, and 1.8m drop protection.

The Toughphone M20 and P20 models are designed to go further, packing heavyweight features for demanding users. With massive battery capacity, high-brightness displays, and enhanced durability, they’re built to be the ultimate reliable business tools for long shifts in extreme conditions. The P20 also becomes JCB Phone’s first device to feature an integrated thermal imaging sensor, which is perfect for inspection, diagnostics, and safety monitoring in complex environments.

The launch follows strong growth in the UK and a strategic investment in leadership to support international scale. In early 2025, JCB Phone appointed Pete Cunningham as Chief Strategy Officer and Chris Millington as Global Sales Director, combining decades of experience in mobile strategy and rugged device distribution.

“We’ve built a solid foundation in the UK, and now we’re focused on scaling internationally,” said Roy Taylor, CEO of JCB Phone. “This new range reflects what our customers have told us they need: tough, dependable smartphones with practical features that work in extreme conditions, all at a price point that makes sense for business.”

Industry experts remain optimistic about the rugged category. Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight commented. “While the rugged smartphone market has contracted over the past few years, there’s still a clear opportunity for companies that are lean, flexible and truly focused on customer needs. JCB Phone is well-positioned to meet that demand with a widely recognised brand and a clear product vision.”

The new JCB Toughphones will be available across Europe immediately, with rollout to Africa, Australasia and Latin America to follow.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Review

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G is a mid ranged priced phone but has the premium look to it and we have been testing it out the last few months and have to say it is a device I could use as a daily driver all year round.

Storage is now a factor in mobile phones and the base factor here starts at a rather generous 256GB where others fall behind and for those who like to take good photos and video the base offering here is more than welcome.

Specs are known now and listed below so we will not bore you with them but there is plenty to think about at this phones price which will vary by region and further making the point there is no need to spend over a thousand euro on a phone today.

The build quality is decent here and given it has a plastic back the body of the phone is premium with alloy rails and a 6.7 OLDED panel with a 120hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 making it ideal for media consumption.

With the camera hump placed in the middle on the back it means no wobble on a flat desk though most of us will use cases it is good to know and in the camera array we have a 200mp main camera 8mp ulltra wide 2 mp macro and not forgetting the 20mp front camera. which the results of can be seen below with the photo and image gallery.

Redmi Note 14 pro 5G images and video samples

We have no wireless charging on board here which might be a deal breaker for some but 45w fast charging which is a fair speed at this price point and we also have a decent battery at 5110 mAh and one thing we do not see too often is an IR blaster up top which is great for those who use such an remote controls is one handy use for it.

The Redmi Not 14 Pro is power by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra chip and for my personal daily use which is more than most is fine and I had no issues with the countless apps running and social media and emails etc all day long making it fine for multitasking.

The phone runs on Hyper OS which lies atop Android 14 so we are a bit behind here but for me there was no issues in my review period and zipped along fine with any task I threw at it but there is only two years of software updates available now which is much less than rivals however that can change and most people change their device within that time frame.

If you are on a budget within the big budget market there is plenty of options available and making the choice more difficult but after testing this phone out myself it is one to certainly think about. Check out the first look video where we take a deep dive into the phone and show you lots more.

Featuring a new, robust and easy-to-grip design with a simplified interface, each component prioritises ease of use and user peace of mind.

A recent Doro study revealed that 51% of seniors worry about pressing the wrong thing on their devices, while 49% struggle with app navigation. To address these challenges, the phones feature three physical buttons for easy calling and a dedicated home key, making navigation simpler for all users, including those with impaired sight or dexterity. The devices, with the buttons and their streamlined interface, also provide quick access to Google Gemini features.  With loud and clear sound quality powered by Doro ClearSound, they ensure crystal-clear communication.

Users benefit from peace of mind with the signature Doro Secure Button, featured on every device. With TeamViewer, the user can gain real-time technical assistance remotely — making technology hurdles disappear with quick, convenient support. This addresses a critical need, as 59% of supporting relatives confirm their senior family members struggle with handling updates and settings on their own. The devices highlight why seniors deserve technology crafted specifically for their unique needs, rather than second-hand devices passed on from friends or relatives.

The phones come in a variety of designs: the Aurora A10 is a perfect compact 4.5” smartphone, the Aurora A20 is a 4.5” smartphone with a flip-down number keypad, and the Aurora A30 is a smartphone with a large 6.1” display. The A10 and A20 feature a 13MP camera, while the A30 offers a Doro-best enhanced 50MP camera.

The Doro Aurora smartphones are the latest instalment in the Doro ecosystem, meeting our users’ evolving needs. At Doro, we believe technology should boost independence, not complicate it – and Aurora is a testament to that commitment.”

imoo Z7 Smart Watch Phone Review

The imoo Z7 Smart Watch Phone is an ideal kit for your child or family member to keep track of even during school hours it is on the large side however it is robust and tough and you can get additional screen protection and watch protector for it making super tough for kids.

The watch is simple enough to set up which requires a sim card with a plan so keep this in mind before you purchase but this is how most work these days anyway.

The UI on the watch is also simple to navigate and we go through all that and the app seen below in the video review down below so be sure to check this out after reading as you will find it helpful

The watch also keeps track of your child’s health and fitness plus many other features built in and a constant track of your child’s location.

You can send messages including voice and picture messages from the watch and to your parents have full control of the device you can also add more family members to talk to for messaging which is great and of course calls both video and standard.

When you call your child you get their location and the camera is live on call so your child can show their surroundings if required this also works if your child calls you on their watch. You can choose between Google Maps or Apple Maps which is nice.

The watch also has multisport fitness options and is IP68 water proof which means it can be taken anywhere.

Call and video quality is quite good once you have a decent signal and the battery will last between 2-5 days depending on use the location history also lasts 14 days in a cycle.

Overall this is a must have for parents who want to keep and in contact with their child at home  and again even better on a holiday and nit too expensive either and it also looks nice and comes in several colours again you also need a sim with a plan for it to work.

What to Do if Your Phone Is Stolen: 7 Essential Recovery Tips

With the rising cost of phones, comes the rising cases of theft. Like minded  Tech Expert Joe Davies shares tips on how to recover yours if lost.
In the age of expensive smartphones, the rising trend of phone thefts, and the ever-present risk of losing your device, it’s essential to be prepared. Phones now contain much more than just contact lists and photos.
They now also hold sensitive information and act as our connection to the digital world. With TikTok trending hacks and expert advice, we break down how you can improve your chances of finding your stolen phone.
The TikTok Hack: Can It Help You Find Your Stolen Phone?
Recently, a TikTok video went viral, showing a hack for tracking a stolen phone. By using the “Find My” feature from Apple or Google, it demonstrated how you could locate your device if it’s turned on and connected to the internet. This hack, while useful in theory, is not always reliable, particularly if the thief has turned off the phone or disabled location services.
“The viral TikTok hack is a good starting point, but it’s not a complete solution. If your phone is off or disconnected from the internet, you’re left with limited options. Always ensure that the necessary tracking services are enabled before any potential loss.”
That said, while the hack can be part of the solution, here are some other effective strategies to help you recover your stolen device.
7 Tips to Find Your Stolen Phone
  1. Use Find My iPhone (Apple Devices) or Find My Device (Android)
Apple and Android devices come with pre-installed features designed to track your phone. If you have “Find My iPhone” or “Find My Device” enabled, these tools can pinpoint your phone’s last known location. Additionally, they offer the ability to lock your device or erase sensitive data remotely.
“One of the most reliable ways to track a stolen phone is through the manufacturer’s built-in features. Just make sure they’re enabled beforehand, or you’ll miss out on these helpful tools.”
  1. Contact Your Service Provider
If location tracking doesn’t lead to your phone, reach out to your mobile network provider. They may be able to track your device’s IMEI number (a unique identifier for your phone) and lock it remotely to prevent further use.
  1. Remote Lock Your Phone
Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, remote locking can prevent thieves from accessing your personal data. “Find My iPhone” and “Find My Device” both offer the option to lock your phone remotely, offering some peace of mind in case the phone can’t be recovered right away.
  1. Report the Theft to Local Authorities
While you may not be able to track your phone in real-time, it’s important to file a police report. This not only helps with the recovery process but is necessary for insurance claims. Some local law enforcement agencies have the means to trace stolen phones based on their IMEI numbers.
  1. Check Lost-and-Found Services
Many airports, malls, and other public places have lost-and-found services. If you’ve lost your phone while out and about, make sure to check with them in case someone turned it in.
  1. Use Third-Party Apps
Third-party apps like Lookout or Prey offer additional tracking options and remote control of your phone, such as taking photos of the thief, locking your phone, or erasing your data.
“Third-party apps can be a good backup option, but you need to install them in advance. These apps may not be as effective as the built-in features, but they offer extra layers of security.”
  1. Protect Your Phone with a Case and Screen Protector
While this doesn’t help you track a stolen phone, using a protective case makes your phone less appealing to thieves. A bulky or uniquely designed case can act as a deterrent.
While recovering a stolen phone is not always guaranteed, taking these steps can increase your chances. However, the most effective way to protect yourself is to ensure your phone is equipped with the necessary security settings before any incident occurs. Enable location tracking, use strong passwords, and stay vigilant when in public spaces.
“The best way to prevent a phone from being stolen is to be proactive. Prevention is always better than trying to recover something once it’s gone.”
With these tips and expert advice, you’ll be better prepared to find your phone if it’s stolen or lost. But, ultimately, safeguarding your device starts with taking simple steps to protect it from theft.
