Sony Announces the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II Lightweight Portrait Lens

Sony today announces the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (SEL85F14GM2) a premium lens offering a supreme blend of high resolution and stunning bokeh with fast autofocus (AF) in a compact body. This is a second-generation lens that inherits the optical design that achieved a high-level fusion of bokeh and resolution that was highly praised in the first-generation model, and generously incorporates the latest technology. Compared to the current FE 85mm F1.4 GM the weight of the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (642 grams, 22.7 oz.) is approximately 20% lighter and 13% smaller in volume, which is achieved through the latest mechanical technology and optical design.  The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II has a filter diameter of φ77 mm, diameter of 84.7 mm (about 3-3/8 in) and length of 107.3 mm (about 4-1/4 in).

Effective Cinematic Creation Features

For smooth movie creation at F1.4, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II has an XD linear motor. Focus breathing is minimal, and in-body focus breathing compensation is supported. It has two customisable focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch offer flexible operability, while an independent aperture ring and Linear Response MF focus control provide the kind of intuitive control that creative shooting demands.

ZAGG Camera lens protector Screen protector and Bridgetown case review for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6

If you are now sporting the new Galaxy Line of products such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 you might want to get that device protected as nothing comes with it in the box which is annoying considering the cost of the phone outright.

They have three new products on offer which we take a closer look at in the video review below and it is in your interest to get them in my book because if you drop the phone it will be a costly fix and that is the last thing you want.

Their new Bridewtown case is pretty cool to start with protecting most of the exterior bar the fold part when closed however the front and rear of the device is well protected and you get additional grip too which is great due the phone being much larger in the hand when opened.

All ports are accessible as expected and you can still wirelessly charge the device with the case on but seems to work with the stronger wireless chargers only.

The keys work well and no issues noted here when using and no infringement when folding the device open or closed so for me it is a safe bet and worth the purchase.

The lens protector for the rear too is well worth the purchase as I have cracked a lens on an iPhone in my pocket before and since then get these for all devices when available and this just sticks on easily and has a better sticking power than others I have tested in the past.

The screen protector comes with an install kit and takes two minutes to install and right away your are good to go with no issues with the outside screen when working as normal, overall the trio is a small price to pay to protect such and expensive phone and you should look into it. The only bugbear here is when the phone is opened you are still at risk if it lands face first.

Tech Review – Ringke case line-up rear lens protector and screen protector for the Google Pixel 8a

Next up we have the Ringke case line-up and their new rear lens protector and dual easy film protector for the Google Pixel 8a which in short will protect your phone front top to bottom and front to rear with the latest products they have on offer.

Havin used Ringke goods before on many devices you are in safe hands and what is new here that I like most is the new rear lens protector.

The cases already do a great job of protecting the entire camera bar on the rear which Google’s own case once again forgot on the 8a meaning it will be free from scratches. The lens cover is an extra measure to ensure the glass does not get damaged and ideal here for Pixel 8a.

This is subjective though on what one prefers as the clear cases let you see the phones color and still offer a decent lip around the front protecting the screen you could place them all face down and the keys again all tactile and work really well check the video below for more but the choice is yours.

Sony releases large aperture wide-angle zoom G Lens FE 16-25mm F2.8 G

Sony has announced the latest addition to its full-frame α (Alpha) E-mount lens line-up. FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is a large-aperture wide-angle zoom lens that maintains an F2.8 maximum aperture over the entire zoom range from 16 mm to 25 mm, combining supreme image quality with excellent portability due to its compact and lightweight design.

This new lens offers high-resolution performance, beautiful bokeh, and high-speed, high-precision, quiet, fast-tracking AF (autofocus). Weighing an impressively light 409 g, it is highly portable so you can easily enjoy every day shooting that emphasises the sense of perspective that can only be achieved with a wide-angle lens. It benefits from the same filter diameter, operability and roughly the same size and weight as the “FE 24-50mm F2.8 G” announced in February 2024, easy to use when shooting hand-held or when combined with a gimbal. The FE 16-25mm F2.8 G expands the range of photographic and video expression for creators in a variety of scenes such as astrophotography, landscapes, architecture, portraits, general snapshots, and selfies.

This is especially helpful if you want to hear the correct pronunciation of a word or listen to a poem or script. Simply enter a prompt and select the sound icon to hear Bard’s answers. This feature is now live in over 40 languages.

 

  • Easily adjust Bard’s responses: You can now change the tone and style of Bard’s responses to five different options: simple, long, short, professional or casual.   • Pin and rename conversations: We’ve heard you want to be able to revisit prompts, so we’re adding new ways to pin and rename your conversations with Bard. Google introduces multisearch – for when words alone aren’t enough

Often we don’t have all the words to  explain exactly what we are looking for. For example, trying to find the perfect, unique piece of clothing or finding a tutorial to recreate hard-to-describe nail art.

Now there is technology to help! Google multisearch is here to help you uncover the information you’re looking for — no matter how tricky it might be to express what you need.

Multisearch does this by allowing you to search with text and images at the same time meaning that you can go beyond the search box and ask questions about what you see. With multisearch, you can ask a question about an object in front of you or refine your search by color, brand or a visual attribute.

For example, you can screenshot a stylish orange dress and add the query “green” to find it in another color. You can snap a photo of your dining set and add the query “coffee table” to find a matching table or you could take a picture of your rosemary plant and add the query “care instructions”.

How to use multisearch on Google Lens:

  1. Simply open up the Google app on Android or iOS

  2. Tap the Lens camera icon

  3. Either search one of your screenshots or snap a photo of the world around you eg, the stylish wallpaper pattern at your local coffee shop.

  4. Then, swipe up and tap the “+ Add to your search” button to add text.

Tech Review – Humixx iPhone 14 Pro protection kit

When it comes to protecting your phone there is plenty of options out there today such as cases and screen protectors and there is no shortage but a one stop shop that does more including protecting your lenses too is more appealing to me, Last year with my iPhone 13 pro one of the lenses cracked despite being in a protective case and since then I always look for a solution on any phone I use and with my iPhone 14 pro the same applies.
