JustTip partners with myPOS to streamline solutions for customers

Irish fintech startup JustTip has announced a strategic partnership with myPOS, the payments platform that powers seamless transactions across Europe. The collaboration integrates JustTip’s award-winning cashless tipping and service charge management technology directly into myPOS card terminals, delivering a powerful, fully compliant solution for the hospitality industry.

The integration allows customers to pay both their bill and a tip directly on a myPOS terminal, with payments routed to the merchant’s account, and tips automatically separated, processed, and distributed through JustTip’s transparent platform. Businesses gain access to real-time reporting, automated allocation, and written distribution policies that support compliance with Irish legislation.

In the first 12 weeks of the partnership, the collaboration, which is being rolled out across Europe, has processed more than €3 million in payments and €350,000 in tips, working with renowned clients including Marco Pierre White, Variety Jones, and Farmer Browns.

“Hospitality is under immense pressure to cut costs while keeping staff motivated and compliant with complex legislation,” said James Fahy, co-founder and CEO of JustTip. “By combining our technology with myPOS’s trusted payment infrastructure, we’re giving businesses a powerful, cost-saving solution that eliminates admin headaches, ensures transparency, and puts more money into staff’s pockets.”

The partnership also helps businesses reduce costs, eliminating the 11.15% PRSI charge on tips, while ensuring compliance with legislation in the UK and Ireland’s amended Payment of Wages (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022, which requires employers to show complete transparency on all tips as well as provide a breakdown of electronic tips and their distribution.

Founded in 2021 by entrepreneurs James Fahy and Ciara Walsh, JustTip emerged in response to outdated tipping practices that lacked transparency for staff and employers. Today, it is trusted by more than 650 companies across Ireland and the UK and is scaling rapidly into new European markets, bringing its unique blend of cashless tipping and tax-efficient automation to more businesses.

“This partnership is a major milestone for JustTip,” added Fahy. “It shows the appetite across Europe for modern, transparent solutions that not only keep businesses compliant but also strengthen trust between employers, employees, and customers.”

JustTip closes €1.1 million funding round to further expand into the UK

JustTip, the cashless tipping solution led by James Fahy and Ciara Walsh, successfully closed a €1.1 million funding round in September of this year. The investment is led by ComOp and Enterprise Ireland, bringing the total investment in the company to €2,100,000.

This funding milestone marks significant growth for JustTip, which has seen a 300%+ increase in business in 2024. Launched in 2021, by the now 23-year-old entrepreneurs James Fahy and Ciara Walsh, the Irish Fintech, with offices in Dublin and Manchester, continues to spearhead innovation in the hospitality sector.

JustTip addresses key challenges in the hospitality industry, including the rising costs, new legislation, and the need to automate core components in the business. The platform, used by over 600+ merchants and 13,000 employees in Europe and the UK, ensures compliance with the recent legislation change in the UK, as well as the change to Ireland’s Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022. These laws require employers to show complete transparency on all tips, gratuities, and service charges to workers; as well as providing a detailed breakdown of electronic tips and their distribution.

“All tips generated through our systems are collected, pooled, and distributed weekly directly to the employees’ bank accounts bypassing the employer completely. This ensures transparency and fairness, empowering employees with tools to ensure that tips left for them, go to them; while also streamlining processes for employers.” explained James Fahy, co-founder and CEO of JustTip.

Since launching, the founders, who have been named in the Sunday Independent ‘30 under 30’ list and more recently in ‘TechRound 100’, have brought the platform to new levels, winning ‘FS Challenger of the Year’, as well as ‘National Start-up of the Year’, to name a few. “This validation is testament to the platform’s initial adoption and exponential growth,” Fahy said. The newly secured funding will continue the platform’s expansion across the UK, foster deeper relationships within the hospitality industry, and accelerate the company’s product innovation and team growth.

“As the hospitality industry continues to embrace digital transformation, JustTip remains committed to driving innovation and setting new standards for excellence,” Fahy added. “This investment is a huge vote of confidence in our vision and will enable us to continue our rapid growth into 2025 and beyond.”

Speaking on behalf of the lead investors, Glen Magee of ComOp said “JustTip is our third investment in the payment and tipping space in 2024. The automation of payment and tipping is being driven by legislation and the increased use of non-cash payments. Where JustTip stood out in this space is the exceptional leadership team of James and Ciara. The company and product is a representation of their personalities; it is innovative, fast growing, and we got a feeling of ‘you have seen nothing yet’. We are excited by both their product expansion and geographical expansion, and are here for the long term.”

Karen Cohalan, Head of Fintech, Financial and Business Services, Enterprise Ireland, said:  “JustTip and its innovative fintech solution is a prime example of how cutting-edge products and services from pioneering Irish owned companies are delivering solutions for global challenges. This investment round will support the company’s expansion in global markets, as well as accelerating its innovation and growth.

“Enterprise Ireland is committed to supporting Irish-owned companies to start, grow and scale, and JustTip was earlier this year announced as the winners of the 2024 Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards. We would like to congratulate James, Ciara, and all the team on their achievements to date, and on this important milestone.”

Earlier this year JustTip expanded its offering with the introduction of JustTip Flex, a new mobile tipping solution developed for restaurants, pubs, and hotels offering table service. By enabling customers to tip independently of their bill, JustTip Flex enhances tip earnings for servers, and aligns businesses with the latest regulations.

JUSTTIP Flex offers next generation mobile tipping solution for table service establishments

In a move that is set to further transform the hospitality industry, Irish founded company JUSTTIP has expanded its offering with the introduction of JUSTTIP Flex, a new mobile tipping solution developed for restaurants, pubs, and hotels offering table service.

The latest hospitality solution from Dublin headquartered JUSTTIP, co-founded by young entrepreneurs James Fahy (23) and Ciara Walsh (22), saves business owners the 11.8% PRSI liability on every tip managed through the system, reduces administrative burdens, and brings them in line with tipping legislation to avoid on-the-spot fines of up to €1,500.

With the new Flex option, as well as existing Fixed terminals and QR code solutions offered by JUSTTIP, customers can easily and securely tip hospitality staff, safe in the knowledge that everything goes directly to staff. For customers, JUSTTIP Flex allows them to choose their tip amount in a separate transaction from paying the bill, thus increasing servers tips while separating them from the business’ income.

Designed to streamline the tipping process for both businesses and employees, Ciara Walsh, Co-founder of JUSTTIP explained “We launched JUSTTIP to bring transparency to tipping, but found so many businesses didn’t even know the charges they were paying on tips, and requirements with updated legislation. The platform is built to help businesses and employees manage tips, with end to end transaction reports, bringing businesses in line with legislation, and offering complete transparency to their staff. An added bonus is that the customers love it too.”

With tipping legislation in Ireland updated in December 2022, companies must now provide clear information to customers on how tips are shared among employees, promoting transparency and trust in the tipping process. Legislation also states that staff should receive a breakdown of electronic tips received and how they are distributed, and guarantees employees the right to receive their tip, protecting them from unfair distribution.  All tips generated through JUSTTIP’s systems are collected and pooled, and distributed weekly directly to the employees’ bank accounts in proportion to the hours they worked, bypassing the employer’s business completely.

With JUSTTIP, employers manage tip distribution thanks to the easy to use employer portal to monitor tip collection and distribution. For employees, tips are paid directly to their bank account every Tuesday, and tax management tools are available to help with calculating liability.

JUSTTIP Co-founder James Fahy added “As the hospitality industry continues to embrace digital transformation, JUSTTIP remains committed to driving innovation and setting new standards for excellence. We guarantee regulatory compliance for businesses and equitable tip sharing for employees.”

JUSTTIP was founded in July 2021, and since then has successfully on boarded 400 establishments and over 7,000 staff across Ireland and the UK.
