FUJIFILM announces its instax mini 13 instant camera

FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, Imaging Solutions Division, has announced the introduction of its instax mini 13™ instant camera (mini 13). Following in the footsteps of the popular instax mini 12™ instant camera launched in 2023, mini 13 brings a fun, playful new look and feel with its soft, sculpted shape and a metallic silver logo that accents the front of the camera.

New for mini 13 is the introduction of a self-timer, with options for 2 or 10 seconds, giving the photographer the opportunity to be in the shot themselves with their subjects, or for easy hands-free selfies (with the help of the included wedge-shaped angle adjustment accessory). The mini 13’s main features also include a Close-Up Mode, Selfie Mirror, and Auto Exposure capabilities, as well as the Parallax Correction feature, in which the camera’s viewfinder aligns with the lens when using Close-Up Mode, minimizing object shifts to produce a centered photo. The mini 13 also features Automatic Flash Control, which optimizes image quality in bright or low light situations. The lens structure is designed to provide intuitive steps both for powering the camera on/off and for accessing the popular Close-Up Mode with a simple twist of the lens.

“Our instax™ mini line of mini instant cameras, smartphone printers, and film represents not only an incredible value for our users, but in many cases, it’s a user’s first foray into analog photography,” said Shin Udono, Senior Vice President, Imaging Solutions, FUJIFILM Europe. “The mini 13 is a perfect fit because experimenting with instant photography – trying out new lighting, poses, or scenes (especially by using the new self-timer feature), are all fantastic ways to express oneself artistically and be a part of your art. We’re looking forward to seeing what our community creates with the mini 13!”

Fujifilm mini Evo Cinema 3-in-1 Hybrid Instant Camera First Look

FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, Imaging Solutions Division, has announced the introduction of the instax mini Evo Cinema™ (mini Evo Cinema) hybrid instant camera. The mini Evo Cinema offers multiple ways for users to make highly personalized, one-of-a-kind content through still photos, short-form video (15-second clips), and instax™ mini photo prints via the free, downloadable instax mini Evo™ smartphone app. This 3-in-1 hybrid instant camera is designed to give users one of the most dynamic creative experiences the instax™ brand has ever offered. Also announced was their new smartphone printer.

“mini Evo Cinema offers the best of both worlds – the vintage look of an 8mm video camera, with all of the modern functionality of a hybrid instant camera now integrating photo, video, and print in one unique package,” said Shin Udono, Senior Vice President, Imaging Solutions, FUJIFILM Europe. “The mini Evo Cinema delivers a smooth, unique photographic experience that gives the user a myriad of ways to turn casual moments into unforgettable ones.”

Main Features:

Eras Dial™

The mini Evo Cinema hybrid instant camera features a first for instax™ cameras – the Eras Dial™, which allows users to apply photo effects from 10 different eras to their image – from the grainy, pale tones of the 1930s, to a 1960s effect inspired by 8mm film cameras, to the vibrant colors of the 1980s, and to the sharp, rich imagery of the 2020s. Each era is designed to capture the look and feel of the imagery of that time.

Degree Control Dial

Content created in each era can be fine-tuned with any of the 10 effects from the Degree Control Dial on the lens. By simply rotating the dial to precisely adjust color, contrast, and noise expression – users can create up to 10 creative variations per era.

Frame Switch

Once an era is chosen and the intensity of the era is selected via the Degree Control Dial, users can continue to personalize by adding a frame to every shot or video clip utilizing the Frame Switch. There’s a frame for every era, each paying homage to the characteristics, media, and playback devices that defined that time.

CINE/STILL Modes

Users can easily switch between “CINE” and ”STILL” modes to capture either a video or photo, respectively, with ease. In CINE mode, users can shoot a series of clips – up to 15 seconds in total – and the camera will stitch them into one smooth video automatically. Via the free, downloadable instax mini EvoTM smartphone app, users can connect via Bluetooth® and extend video creations to 30 seconds by adding or reordering clips.

Zoom Lever

The mini Evo Cinema features built-in digital zoom. The tactile Zoom Lever lets you dial up the intimacy of the shot or pull back for greater scope and more atmosphere.

“My Gallery”

Within the instax mini Evo™ app, the My Gallery section provides users a secure place to store the images and videos they create, segmented into categories including Favorites, Printed, Video, Photo, Projects. Through this function, users can also save printed images digitally to their smartphone’s camera roll, finished with the iconic instaxTM mini border.

Video Printing

Users can access videos via a one-of-a-kind instax™ mini instant photo printed with a QR code ready to be scanned and played back on a smartphone. Video is captured as standard at 600 x 800, and with the 2020 Era selection is captured at 1080 x 1440.

Timeless Design

With sleek black, vertical grip design (inspired by Fujifilm’s “FUJICA Single-8”, an 8mm camera introduced in 1965); and analog-inspired details, this hybrid instant camera is meticulously crafted for those who appreciate tactile functions alongside beauty and elegance.

Additional camera features include:

  • Remote shooting capability (via app)
  • Integrated Selfie Mirror and Self-Timer
  • 1.54-inch high-resolution LCD Monitor

Beyond Swift: The revolution of instant international payment solutions

For over half a century now, the global financial system has relied on a SWIFT mechanism that, in 2026, feels archaic. It was certainly revolutionary at the time for the banking messaging system that it is. It helped create a safer and more orderly way to get money from one bank to another.

Today, it’s seen as legacy infrastructure that brings with it a lot of friction. A transfer can take days to settle (in the 80s, sending money from the UK to Hong Kong in three days was impressive!), while fees are now seen as high and quite unpredictable. And, perhaps most disappointingly for a correspondence system, tracking the location of the funds is difficult.

While information travels instantly, money has lagged behind – partly because replacing a large global system, which takes fraud seriously, is understandably sticky. But a quiet revolution has been happening from the bottom up. API-first financial infrastructure has been booming over the past decade, and alternative finance is growing so big that it no longer feels like an alternative.

The problem with legacy systems

To understand the magnitude of this revolution, you first have to appreciate the inefficiencies of the current status quo. Traditional Swift is a chain of correspondent banks – money doesn’t actually go from point A to B, but it passes through a series of intermediaries, all of which collect their own fee.

This structure is therefore inherently opaque. A business might send $10,000, but the recipient might receive $9,850. If the business says it wants the recipient to receive $10,000, then the sender will pay high fees, and it often won’t be clear whether they’re wire fees, exchange spreads, and so on.

How modern API-first solutions work

The solution to this is interoperability and direct connection. Modern fintechs aim to be borderless, and they’re building their own “financial infrastructure” to achieve it. They might use SWIFT when it works out best, or they might establish entities in multiple countries and connect directly to local banking systems. They might use treasury tricks, where they can deposit/withdraw money from multiple users simultaneously to align a transfer, and achieve it even with no money ever crossing the border. In the end, it’s about choices, flexibility, and being agile.

This API-first approach means instant settlement. Because the payout is a local bank transfer, it clears within seconds.  Plus, the fees are clearer and the tracking is more accurate (fewer intermediaries).

The advantage for global business

For treasury managers and CFOs, the ability to consolidate liquidity is a game-changer for obvious reasons. Before, expanding into new regions like Latin America or Southeast Asia meant opening multiple local bank accounts, which was a bureaucratic nightmare, whether you’re a large corporation or an independent store.

Modern platforms allow users to see their global finances in one view. Through a single API integration, a company can automate pay-ins and pay-outs in dozens of countries. This means it’s easier to track liquidity and cash flow, but it also means it’s easier to manage multiple currencies and have an FX strategy. You can build up reserves in a multi-currency account wallet and execute timely transactions when the exchange rate is favourable (or when it’s large enough to get a bulk FX discount).

Who is driving the change?

Transparent cross-border payments are made up of global generalists and specialized regional experts. Wise is perhaps the most recognizable name and it was an early mover in setting the standard for transparency and mid-market exchange rates, while Airwallex carved out a strong position by offering a comprehensive platform that combines payments with card issuing and expense management – ideal for larger enterprises.

Latin America is always an interesting environment because it has historically been characterized by fragmented banking systems. Belvo has set the standard for Open Finance, as they’ve helped build the API rails so businesses can access banking data and initiate payments in markets like Mexico, Brazil and Colombia. On the issuing side, Pomelo provides the cloud-native infrastructure to help companies launch and scale, while Dock operates heavily in the background as a banking-as-a-service powerhouse.

Prometeo has positioned itself to focus specifically on borderless banking for treasury management. Here, the international payment solution provides a single API that consolidates these local networks to allow for automated liquidity movement between Latin America and the US.

Value movement

Instant international payments is still a new concept to larger banks. But for those looking to take advantage of maturing open banking regulations, payments is an area which is improving in quality while decreasing in cost. It has come at a time of the rise of crypto, which is in part how crypto has been kept at bay away from mainstream use. Going forward, it’s unlikely to see large corporations embrace interoperability because it’s a playing field leveller, and so bottom-up fintech movements will continue to shape consumer experience.

Fujifilm instax mini LiPlay+ hybrid instant camera Review

The Fujifilm Instax mini LiPlay+ builds upon the popular LiPlay hybrid concept, delivering a compact, 3-in-1 device that functions as a digital camera, an instant film printer, and a unique sound recorder. Launched as an upgrade to its predecessor, the LiPlay+ introduces some new features that make it one of the most versatile Instax cameras yet.

The most impactful upgrade is the Dual-Lens System. Where the original relied on a small mirror for selfies, the LiPlay+ features a dedicated wide-angle selfie camera on the back (above the main LCD). This significantly improves framing and precision for self-portraits. This dual system powers the new Layered Photo Mode, allowing users to combine images from both lenses onto a single print.

Like all Instax hybrids, the LiPlay+ is a digital camera first (using a small 1/5-inch CMOS sensor, producing 4.9MP images), which is a huge benefit:

  1. Select Before You Print: You can review, edit, and filter images on the 3.0-inch LCD before committing to a print, saving expensive film.
  2. Smartphone Printing: It connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone, allowing it to function as a printer for any photo on your phone’s camera roll.

The camera’s digital image quality (4.9MP)  and is not intended to compete with modern smartphones. It captures the charm of nostalgic, retro photography.

  • Best Performance: Performs best in bright, well-lit conditions.
  • Low Light: Expect focus hesitation in dim environments, though the built-in flash works well within its limited range (up to 1.5m).
  • Print Quality: When printed on Instax Mini film, the digital file is rendered beautifully in the classic instant film aesthetic. You can choose between Instax-Rich Mode (deeper, vibrant colors) or Instax-Natural Mode (softer, classic film look) before printing.

The LiPlay+ is designed for vertical shooting, which complements the portrait-orientation of the Instax Mini film. The control layout is intuitive, featuring a navigational dial that doubles as shortcuts for filters, frames, and flash settings.

Its compact size (4.86 x 3.27 x 1.49 inches) makes it easy to carry in a coat pocket or small bag some might think it is a bit clunky however and each to their own.

Many of the creative features, like customizing frames and utilizing the advanced Sound Album feature, are managed through the companion smartphone app and you can see this down below and also check out the unboxing and walkthrough video.

This unique feature allows you to record a short (3-second) audio clip when you take a photo. When printed, a QR code appears on the film. Scanning this code with the companion app plays back the recorded sound, adding an interactive, auditory layer to your physical memory. See samples below. Yes you can scan the QR codes.

The Fujifilm Instax mini LiPlay+ is a highly versatile and fun instant camera, ideal for users who want the creative freedom of digital photography without losing the tangible experience of an Instax print. Popular as ever this will be in many Christmas gifts this year and one should lap it up if so and have fun and get creative with the new features on board.

instax mini 41 instant camera review

The instax mini 41 instant camera from FUJIFILM is their latest offering and a fun camera to use for those who like instant cameras and instant shots and this is no different than their other products on the market in this respect.

The snaps on this model are smaller than others is so keep this in mind they are not the larger based photo prints from other models we have tested before.

The camera is smaller than others however hence the smaller photos it prints but still has that nostalgic experience and the mini 41 camera is a joy to us it is simple to use and anyone can use it be it a pro or beginner.

To turn the camera on all you need to do is turn the ring on the lens and you have two focal lengths to play with 30-50cm and has much improved viewing window but be careful not to get your finger in some shots as I did on testing.

The build quality of the camera is also excellent here and has all the right rough edges in the right places making it easy to hold in both portrait and landscape mode and not as cumbersome as one would think some have asked what it was but I think they are more interested in the lens as is always with these that twist open on these cameras.

There is a flash on the camera however this cant be turned off which I found odd but it is what it is they put it there as is for a reason I guess and handy for night shots and low light situations when using the camera.

The images produced are as expected pretty good in most cases some came out over saturated or had a greyish hue to them but mostly good this time around I had no prints that came out white which has happened in past models.  Photos again take about 90 seconds to process but let them sit a bit longer and watch them. This is a basic point and shoot camera which requires no skills no settings to play around with all day like other cameras and is fun to use it is not for everyone however as always with these cameras they are a joy to use and just simple and who does not like that.

Key mini 41 features include:

Automatic Exposure functionality

The Automatic Exposure function automatically senses the level of ambient light when the shutter button is pressed, optimizing the shutter speed and flash output according to the scene. It allows users to produce high-quality photo prints on-the-spot in a variety of interior or exterior environments.

Close-up Mode with Parallax Correction

The mini 41’s close-up mode features Parallax Correction, which helps center close-up images (including selfies) by adjusting the position of the ‘focus’ mark to the lower left of the frame.

Updated, easily portable design

Building off the classic design elements of its predecessor, the textured, tactile body of mini 41 provides secure, ergonomic grip, and the subtle metallic-like finish and orange color accents add unique design elements to the camera body.

The instax mini 41 joins a fun and versatile lineup of instax instant cameras and smartphone printers. Fujifilm’s instax mini 41 instant camera will be available at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of €110.00 (inc, VAT).  It will be expected to be available for purchase from 17th April 2025 at FUJIFILM retailers nationwide.

Tech Review – instax WIDE 400 instant camera

The instax WIDE 400 instant camera is the latest now on offer from FUJIFILM and it is a big boy this one, everywhere I went with it I was stopped and questions asked never mind looking like an American tourist but this did not bother me in the slightest as it catches eyes.

The camera is simple to use with simple controls and of course an array of filtered prints available and you get an add on selfie extension for those who like to take selfies which many do.

There is a selfie timer up front and of course your shutter key which you need to watch out your finger does not end up in the photo, that being said with big hands it is just me but just beware anyway, there is also your flash up front and that big lens that twists to two settings which I enjoy opening and closing.

Up top your wide image comes out and on the rear is your viewfinder and hatch for the films that we all love that just slot in with ease and also a counter for remaining shots.

There is a tripod mount there and also a strap with two blocks to help you get that right angle you need at the time of shooting.

This runs on batteries so be sure to fully close the lens after use. Also on the unit is two strap holders for carrying the camera around which is fun and gets you noticed.

The camera is analogue and twists open to give two ranges of shooting mode being 90cm to 3m and 3m to infinity you could say. You are also provided with the extra close up accessory of selfie clip as I call it as that is what my daughter just used it for and you can also capture images up to 40cm away for macro photography.

The camera is fun to use however there is not much control of what you can do here and no app to go with it and it is their first Wide camera in many years so for me they have kept things  simple which is fine.

When it comes to image quality this will vary and again on the light and film you pick and I found their monochrome and black and white films to be rather good over the usual cartridges however this depends on the pictures you are taking on the day.

Overall the instax WIDE 400 camera from FujiFilm is a simple fun camera to use with a built in selfie timer for those selfie fans and in most instances you will get good snaps some did come out overexposed as expected from an analogue camera which does waste expensive film..

Pricing and Availability:

Fujifilm’s instax WIDE 400 instant camera will be available at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of EUR 150.00 (incl. VAT). It will be available to buy from FUJIFILM stockists nationwide from July 12th, 2024. For more product information, visit https://www.instax.ie/cameras/wide-400/

Main features of the instax WIDE 400:

(1) Analogue instant camera compatible with wide-format film.

・This simply designed analogue instant camera is compatible with instax
WIDE-format film. With automatic exposure and flash control, simply turn the lens to switch it on, hold the camera and press the shutter button.

After turning the lens to switch the power on, turn it further in the same direction to switch to Landscape mode, allowing you to capture distant scenery from a distance of more than 3m. Furthermore, by attaching the included close-up lens, you can capture images up to 40cm away for macro photography.

(2) Equipped with a lever-operated self-timer for that analogue feel.

A lever-operated self-timer is mounted on the front side of the camera. When the lever is turned, the LEDs light up in sequence and the self-timer can be set for up to 10 seconds.

Pressing the shutter release button starts the countdown and the LEDs go off one by one every two seconds. Group shots can be easily taken while enjoying the sound of the timer and the operation of turning the lever.

(3) Includes useful accessories for self-timer shooting.

By using the included camera angle adjustment accessory, choose between two height options for the optimum shooting angle, all without the need for a tripod.
