Use Gemini in new ways

Customize how Gemini helps you

Get more personalized responses from Gemini with the new saved info feature in Gemini Advanced. Saved info lets you ask Gemini to remember your interests and preferences so it can provide more helpful and relevant responses, tailored to your goals and needs. For example, tell Gemini you’re a vegetarian, and Gemini will remember and provide you vegetarian-friendly recipes without needing constant reminders. You can easily view, edit or delete any information you’ve shared as well as see when it’s used.

Get help across more of your favorite apps

We’re making it easier to access more apps and services from Gemini on Android. You can now ask Gemini to call personal contacts or businesses, as well as draft and send messages with your default phone and messaging apps. You can even set alarms, control your device settings, and open your camera to take a quick selfie.

We’ll be adding support for even more apps in the coming weeks. With the new Spotify extension you can play your favorite songs and discover playlists for any mood. You’ll be able to ask Gemini to control smart home devices that your Google Account can access such as lights, AC or TV, as well as ask Gemini for more information about a place on Maps and have it read reviews and scan websites to answer any questions.

Additionally, Gemini Live is now available in more languages!

Answer phone calls the smart way

Screen calls with even smarter replies from Gemini Nano

Gemini Nano on Pixel can now suggest more contextual easy-to-tap replies for you in Call Screen. This means you can easily respond to unknown callers without having to take the call yourself. For example, if a package is being delivered, you can use this feature to respond to the delivery person by answering their yes or no questions or asking relevant follow-up questions — all via simple prompts that will show up on your screen.

See live transcripts of your screened conversations so you know if want to pick up

You can now peek into conversations between the caller and the AI agent during an automatic Call Screen. You can also answer or decline a call at any time during the screening session.

Capture memories, get creative and stay organized

Share to social in fewer steps

Now you can capture and share Ultra HDR photos — full of bright intensity, higher contrast and more detail — right to your Instagram Feed.

Easily find photos and videos to share on Snapchat

It’s even easier to find photos and videos that you want to share on Snapchat. Instead of scrolling through your device photo albums, now you’ll see all your folders, favorites and cloud photos through the Photo Picker.

Strike a pose with Dual Screen

Don’t struggle to get the perfect portrait photo this holiday season: Take advantage of Dual Screen on your Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold in Portrait Mode so you and your photo subject can preview every shot before capturing the moment.

Get more smiles with Made You Look updates

Made You Look is now available on the first-generation Pixel Fold! Use fun animations on the outer screen to grab your little one’s attention and snap a photo at the perfect moment.

Plus, Pixel 9 Pro Fold users get an extra treat: Joy from Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out joins the fun, bringing even more smiles to your photos.

Send Pixel Studio stickers right from Gboard

Want to show off your Pixel Studio sticker creations in more places? They’re now available in your Gboard keyboard, so you can share them with friends and family via messages, social media and more.11

Discover more wacky emoji mash-ups

Emoji Kitchen in Gboard is your source for all the weird and hilarious emoji mixes of your dreams. And now with updated navigation, it’s easy to find the perfect expression when a standard emoji isn’t enough, straight from your keyboard.12

Get super-organized with screenshots

New Pixel Screenshots upgrades will help you stay organized during a busy holiday season. For starters, when you’re using Circle to Search and find something you like, you can save to Pixel Screenshots with just a tap so you can always find it later — no more lost gift ideas!

And Pixel Screenshots now automatically categorizes your screenshots, so it’s even easier to find exactly what you need with new search filters. When you find what you’re looking for, Pixel Screenshots provides helpful suggested actions based on the information you saved — like creating a calendar invite or getting directions.

Pixel Screenshots also lets you add tickets or credit cards you’ve screenshot to Google Wallet giving you quick access to things like your driver’s license, boarding passes and more in one convenient spot.

And in Gboard, you’ll now see movie, music, product and other text suggestions from your screenshots while searching in relevant apps. Just turn on “Show suggestions from your screenshots in other apps” in the Pixel Screenshots app.

Listen (and look) at better audio-visual tools

Give your captions new life

Expressive Captions, now available for Android phones, uses AI to automatically capture the intensity and emotion of how someone is speaking for any content with sound on your phone, even livestreams. When you’re watching live sports, texting, using social media or watching a video message, you’ll see things like a gasp at a juicy secret, cheers and applause for a big win and all caps when someone is really excited.

Enjoy cleaner audio

Reduce noise and distractions automatically with the new update to the Recorder app. Whether you’re using the app to record a lecture or important interview, distracting background noises can make audio playback hard to follow. You can now enable the “Clear voice” feature on Recorder to focus on speakers and reduce background noise.

Enjoy a smoother, faster Pixel experience

Make your Pixel easier to read and navigate

We’re introducing a new way to navigate your smartphone with Simple View. Simple View increases your phone’s font size and touch sensitivity, making it easier to see and use controls, apps and widgets.

See what’s playing

Discover more songs and artists with Now Playing’s latest upgrade. You’ll now be able to see album art for each song in your Now Playing history, so it’s easier to explore new music.

Access controls on Pixel Tablet faster

You can now jump straight into using your go-to controls on your Pixel Tablet. All you have to do is swipe right from your tablet’s lock screen to access widgets for quick controls for your smart home devices, timers, music and more.

Try expanded safety and security features

Travel with peace of mind

Are you traveling this holiday season? Now, when you’re in a new location, Identity Check in beta will require your face or fingerprint authentication before any changes to sensitive settings can be made on your phone. This gives you extra protection against anyone who might try to take your phone and access your passwords, change your PIN or turn off theft protection features.

Keep your data even safer

Previously only available on Pixel phones, you can now use our free built-in Google VPN on your Pixel Tablet. This means data like your internet traffic, private messages and photos, health information, banking details and location data are all protected when connected to public Wi-Fi networks.

Tune into your home from your wrist

See who’s knocking at your door from your Pixel Watch 2.21 When you get a notification from your Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell, you can now see a live view of your porch and talk with whoever’s there right from your wrist.22

Check out health and safety tools in new regions

We’ve expanded access to Loss of Pulse Detection for Pixel Watch 3 users in Germany and Portugal. Loss of Pulse is a first-of-its-kind feature that can identify when someone’s heart suddenly stops beating due to conditions such as cardiac arrest, poisoning or respiratory arrest, and then prompt the watch to call emergency services for help.

For people in Germany, we’re also expanding access to Fall Detection for all Pixel Watch generations and Car Crash Detection to Pixel phones as well as Pixel Watch 2 and 3.

Stay in tune with your body’s recovery

Our enhanced Daily Readiness algorithm and new tools — Cardio Load and Target Load — originally launched with Pixel Watch 3. Now they’re coming to Pixel Watches and Fitbit smartwatches and trackers that support Readiness starting December 9. Powered by Fitbit’s advanced health and fitness capabilities, these metrics help you know your body better and balance activity with recovery so you can optimize your workouts and rest to prevent overtraining. On Pixel Watches, you can view these metrics on-wrist within the Fitbit Today app or by adding the Readiness complication to your watchface, and for Fitbit devices you can view these metrics in your Fitbit mobile app’s Today tab.

The December Pixel Drop, as well as new Android features, begins rolling out today.

Google Unveils New AI Education Programmes for Irish Students

Google Ireland is today announcing the launch of two new AI education programmes to improve AI literacy across Ireland, via Kinia and ADAPT. These initiatives will equip students and teachers with the essential skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven future.

Experience AI has been co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind to provide teachers with free classroom resources and professional development, enabling them to teach students about AI technologies and how they are changing the world. In Ireland, Raspberry Pi Foundation is working with Kinia, funded by a €360,000 grant from Google.org, to ensure that young people can actively participate in shaping their own futures. Kinia will provide bi-lingual (Irish and English) interactive and engaging AI content to 800 educators and meet the skills needs of over 14,000 young people in Ireland.

AI Literacy in the Classroom, led by ADAPT, is a training initiative designed to help secondary school teachers boost their AI literacy and empower students to use AI critically. The programme will comprise workshops and online resources, co-created with teachers to ensure it aligns with their needs. Developed in alignment with current AI education policies and training provisions from the Department of Education, the programme aims to equip teachers with the essential AI knowledge and practical insights to navigate AI in the classroom and guide students to use AI-powered tools safely and ethically. With support from Google, the initiative is designed to ensure AI is taught responsibly.

Speaking at the launch, Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland, said:

“AI has the power to reshape our approach to society’s biggest issues, promising extraordinary breakthroughs that can improve billions of lives. That’s why we want to equip Ireland’s young people and educators with the skills needed to understand and navigate this transformative technology. Our support for Kinia and ADAPT underlines our commitment to making AI literacy accessible across Ireland, ensuring that students are prepared to shape an AI-enabled future that benefits all of society.”

Obum Ekeke OBE, Head of Education Partnerships at Google DeepMind, said:

“We are incredibly excited to see the launch of Experience AI in Ireland. AI is rapidly shaping our world, and we believe every young Irish student deserves the opportunity to understand and engage with this transformative technology. By making AI education more inclusive, we can help young people make more informed decisions about using AI applications in their daily lives, and encourage safe and responsible use of the technology.”

Marianne Checkley, CEO of Kinia, said:

“We are very proud and delighted to introduce Experience AI to schools and youth services in Ireland. As a programme co-created by educators and industry, Experience AI offers a unique chance for young people in Ireland to access immersive content that brings together real world relevance and the future view of artificial intelligence. Underpinned by our mission at Kinia this funding support also addresses a critical societal need, to make sure that all young people will be in a position to seize the opportunities and tackle the challenges of the future.”

Professor John Kelleher, Director of Adapt, said:

“We have seen first hand how excited teachers are to bring AI into their classrooms but also how daunting it can be without the right support in place. That’s why we’re launching the ‘AI Literacy in the Classroom’ programme. It is all about helping teachers gain the AI knowledge and skills they need in a practical, hands-on way. We want to make sure they can use AI tools confidently and critically, so both teachers and students can thrive in this AI-driven world. This initiative reflects ADAPT’s commitment to real-world education and ensuring we’re equipping the next-generation to embrace the future as responsible digital citizens.”

Philip Colligan, Chief Executive, Raspberry Pi Foundation said:

“We are delighted to welcome Kinia to our Experience AI global network of partners. Working together with Kinia, we look forward to equipping teachers with the skills needed to teach AI confidently, ensuring it’s both engaging and relevant for their students. Through the partnership, we aim to ensure that over 14,000 young people in Ireland develop a foundational understanding of AI technologies and the role that they can play in their lives.”

Google TV streamer 4k review

The Google TV streamer is the latest addition to their product portfolio this year and a welcome upgrade too with more storage (32GB) and RAM and 22% faster on offer this time and a big design change from the old chromecast we all know and love.

This time around it is not a small box that plugs into the back of your TV but one that sits on the TV stand or nearby and this time you also get an ethernet port if you want a solid connection.

This also comes with Matter so you can connect any other compatible device to have on one hub along with your desired content all in one place so for example if you have google home and several devices you can have these on your TV which is excellent however you cant respond to your doorbell for example if it rings but you can still see all your cameras there which for me is ideal as I an an entrenched user of Google products and others.

The remote control has also changed slightly this time and ha s a custom key on it which I have set up for google home, voice commands work much better now and overall the UI of the product is excellent as you will see in a detailed video review below.

On setting up you will see a list of apps and then you select what is required if not on screen just download basically you are putting all your subs into one place or any favourite that doesnt cost.

You have AI built in of course with AI overviews and suggestions and of course the regular AI features like what’s the weather or find a movie all which we are accustomed to at this stage.

There is a sports hub too if your are into that and you get Google Free play so there is plenty here to get started if you want to embrace on a new smart home if you have not already and for those who have not would find themselves wanting more if you had a hub like this to have an entire ecosystem at home which for me is the best way to have it.

If you lose your remote do not worry as there are several ways now to find it one being the button on the back of the hub by voice or on the home app.

IN short here again if you are using an entire Google Ecosystem this is certainly what you need in one hub and anything else in one place it is a must have.

Check the video below for a look at what you get it is cool.

Features

  • Everything you stream on one screen.
  • Your entertainment, built around you.
  • Unlock 4K with cinematic visuals and immersive surround sound.
  • A big leap in performance and connectivity.
  • Better comfort and convenience with a redesigned voice remote.
  • Making your smart home smarter.
  • Thoughtfully designed to feel at home.

Google’s approach to help tackle online scams and fraud in Ireland

Google is making changes in Ireland to help tackle online scams and fraud, including some detail on Google’s broader approach to tackling these issues. Preventing fraud and scams on its platforms is critically important to Google.

About the update

  • Google will shortly notify customers that it is updating its financial services verification process to introduce new requirements for advertisers promoting financial services in Ireland.

  • The update will allow Google to require Financial Services advertisers to complete verification based on their authorisation from the Central Bank of Ireland or other appropriate regulator. Advertises who are required to complete the process and do not, will not be allowed to show financial services ads. Google is working with customers to ensure this process goes smoothly.

  • This change is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to tackle fraudulent or scam ads.

Google’s broader approach

  • Preventing fraud and scams on our platforms is critically important to Google. Fraudsters are constantly evolving their tactics – both online and off – to try to scam people and businesses alike.

  • Google is tackling this adversarial behaviour in a number of ways including:

    • Introducing and updating policies and programs to prevent abuse including Google Ads Policyadvertiser identity verification program and business operations verification program.

    • Investing in technology to better detect coordinated adversarial behaviour, allowing Google to connect the dots across accounts and suspend multiple bad actors at once.

    • Improving its automated detection technology and human review processes based on, for example, previous account activity and user feedback.

  • We know we are successfully preventing many bad advertisers from placing ads – you can read more detail in our latest ads safety report – but, as you know, this is a complex and evolving challenge and we must constantly find ways to improve.

  • We continue to work closely with industry partners, regulators, policymakers and other stakeholders.

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 review

The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are the latest tech in my ears a while now and alongside that their Pixel 9 devices still my daily drivers which both combined work a treat.

Earbuds come through here so fast we have reviewed over 200 pairs now at this stage if not more and I love them but slightly off the topic Google Need to give us headphones next time around or even as a separate product and I am hoping they will soon but as far as their earbuds go they are one of if not the best out there today and a big improvement over the last model which is now around two years ago, why the gap one asks?

Smaller earbuds and a smaller battery this time around and they still deliver in every aspect and give you more this year with their smarts on board like most other brands and their AI but it is fair to say Google is way ahead of the game some time now and the rest are playing catch up.

OK so they are smaller and not the type of earbud I go for I rather stems however this time around the wing has a different shape and it is at the start a bit fiddly to get them in but once in they will not budge even if running, they are sleek and subtle and not only that you can wear these in bed lying down on either side without hitting a command and this for me is a huge bonus as I like to listen to music and podcasts in bed and also test the. This is a win for me.

They are small and look like a small pebble or mint and still at that people asked what are they when out and about and me with the big smile ohh they are the new Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 and they were surprised to see the size and shape not only that the colour is also cool and the nicest out of the new range but I do like some other flavours too.

Sound then.. Yes they are better than the last version quite a bit actually and with all the new features on board they are topping the list for me which is a hard feat and I would say even better than Samsung’s Buds Pro 3 but again they are device specific like the Pixel Buds Pro 2 which loses features on iPhone but this is a game they are all playing.

Excellent volume decently loud great highs lows and mids really good bass and treble and then you have the app to play around with the EQs and get the best sound for you there is and whats more they sound like you are there in some aspects like in podcasts and also other settings and this is thanks to new features, again if watching movies footsteps and background noise more present and to top things off you have got spatial audio conversation detection and head tracking all thrown in here.

The gesture controls work really well and all the options are like skip and reverse track volume control call control play and pause and your AI assistant access. The ANC is pretty much up at the top here to but also do check the fit and tips and the earseal test as I always advise in any other earbud that offers the same which is now becoming a basic feature these days.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are almost on par with headphones now once you have the right tips and test done and for me this is the second pair of earbuds so far this year that have come close to this, you have you ANC on/off and of course transparency mode which is superb so you can hear your surroundings and again conversation detection so you have no need to remove one of your earbuds to hear that conversation.

Multipoint connection works seamlessly here and of like me you own more than one pixel device even better, battery is decent too and again a first with the tensor chip inside and overall even for an audiophile they might just give them the nod too and for me they are easy to recommend this year and better again if you are a Google Pixel owner you are in for a treat.

The App

Ten things to know about the Pixel Buds Pro 2

1 – Designed to be the most comfortable earbuds.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 are designed to be the most comfortable and secure-fitting earbuds. They were designed using 45 million data points from ear scans to come up with the optimal shape for maximum comfort and a secure fit. Combined with the new Tensor A1 chip, we were further able to reduce the size by 27% as well as make them lighter while increasing performance and battery life.

2 – Twist-to-adjust stabilizer for adaptable fit during exercise.

Use the twist-to-adjust stabilizer when you’re exercising to lock your Pixel Buds Pro 2 securely in your ear, or adjust in the other direction for all-day comfort.

3 – The first Tensor chip in an earbud.

The Tensor A1 chip was built for advanced audio processing and Google AI. It
processes audio 90 times faster than the speed of sound to adapt to you and
your environment, cancels twice as much noise,2 and helps deliver clear calls.

4 – Silent SealTM 2.0 cancels twice as much noise.

Active Noise Cancellation with Silent SealTM 2.0 adapts to your environment up to 3 million times per second, and adapts to your ear to cancel up to twice as much noise as before.2 By expanding the frequency range, Silent SealTM 2.0 also cancels
a wider range of noises, including even higher frequencies.

5 – Upgraded acoustic architecture for premium sound.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 have large 11 mm drivers for powerful bass and a new high- frequency chamber for smooth treble. Multi-path processing on the Tensor A1 chip adds an additional signal path for music. This allows it to bypass the Silent SealTM processing chain to deliver unaltered, pure sound to the speaker drivers.

6 – Improved Clear Calling.

Clear Calling on Pixel reduces the noise around the person on the other side of the call, enhancing their voice so you can hear them even more clearly.3 For example, when your friend is on the subway, you’ll hear them clearly through your Pixel Buds Pro 2, no matter which phone and earbuds they use. This year, updated algorithms reduce noise in even more settings.

7 – No more taking out earbuds to talk.

With Conversation Detection, Pixel Buds Pro 2 use AI to tell when you start speaking. Your music gets paused and the earbuds switch to Transparency mode. When the conversation ends, the music resumes automatically, going back to Active Noise Cancellation without you taking any action.

8 – More precise location tracking for your earbuds and case.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 support the new Find My Device network, so you can find your earbuds’ precise location on a map.4 When you’re close, just ring them or the charging case to find them even faster.

9 – Switch audio automatically.

Easily switch from watching a movie or show on your tablet to listening to your running playlist on your watch.

10 – The best earbuds for Pixel.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 are deeply integrated with your other Pixel devices. Features like Clear Calling, Spatial Audio with head tracking, precise location tracking of your buds and case with Find My Device, and seamless switching make them the
best earbuds for everything Pixel.

New in Gemini: Custom Gems and improved image generation with Imagen 3

Gemini, Google’s state-of-the-art AI powered assistant, has new features rolling out, starting today, that were previewed at Google I/O. Gems, a new feature that lets you customize Gemini to create your own personal AI experts on any topic you want, are now available for Gemini Advanced, Business and Enterprise users. And its new image generation model, Imagen 3, will be available across Gemini, Gemini Advanced, Business and Enterprise in the coming days.

Over the coming days, Gemini Advanced, Business and Enterprise subscribers can start creating and chatting with Gems, the custom versions of Gemini first previewed at I/O. You can customise Gems to act as an expert on topics or refine them toward your specific goals. Simply write instructions for your Gem, give it a name, and then chat with it whenever you want.

With Gems, you can create a team of experts to help you think through a challenging project, brainstorm ideas for an upcoming event, or write the perfect caption for a social media post. Your Gem can also remember a detailed set of instructions to help you save time on tedious, repetitive or difficult tasks.

To help you get started, Gemini is launching a set of premade Gems for different scenarios, including:

  • Learning coach helps you break down complex topics, making them easier to understand.

  • Brainstormer gives you easy inspiration — from fresh ideas for a themed party to the perfect gift for an upcoming birthday.

  • Career guide unlocks your career potential with detailed plans to refine your skills and achieve your career goals.

  • Writing editor can elevate your writing through clear, constructive feedback on everything from grammar to structure.

  • Coding partner levels up your coding skills and can help you build projects and learn as you go.

Gems are now rolling out on desktop and mobile devices to Gemini Advanced, Gemini Business and Gemini Enterprise users in more than 150 countries in most languages.

Gemini has upgraded its creative image generation capabilities, and over the coming days, it is  bringing its latest image generation model, Imagen 3 to Gemini Apps and expanding its availability for users in all languages.

Imagen 3 sets a new standard for image quality, generating images with just a few words. You can even ask Gemini to create images in various styles — like photorealistic landscapes, textured oil paintings or whimsical claymation scenes.

Imagen 3 brings advanced image generation capabilities that come with built-in safeguards and adhere to Gemini’s product design principles. Across a wide range of benchmarks, Imagen 3 performs favourably compared to other image generation models available. And as with Imagen 2, it uses SynthID, Google’s tool for watermarking AI-generated images.

Gemini’s design principles are clear: From start to finish, you remain in control of the creative process. If the initial image you get doesn’t meet your expectations, simply tell Gemini what you’d like to change and it’ll give you a new image.

Over the coming days, Gemini will also start to roll out the generation of images of people, with an early access version for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users, starting in English. It has worked to make technical improvements to the product, as well as improved evaluation sets, red-teaming exercises and clear product principles.

With Imagen 3, Gemini has made significant progress in providing a better user experience when generating images of people and does not support the generation of photorealistic, identifiable individuals, depictions of minors or excessively gory, violent or sexual scenes. Of course, as with any generative AI tool, not every image Gemini creates will be perfect, but it will continue to listen to  feedback from early access Gemini Advanced users as it keeps improving. Gemini will gradually roll this out, aiming to bring it to more users and languages soon.

Ringke Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL Onyx cases review

The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are my current daily drivers the last while now and the first thing to do is pick up a case and the next in our case lineup is from Ringke for both devices from the Onyx range.

We have done several other brands and more to come so stay tuned for more cases for your new shiny Pixel 9 series over the next while.

The Ringke Onyx range are simple and to the point and look well on the phone giving you extra grip all round, these are not Magsafe compatible however do a good job regardless.

There is a tapered lip up front meaning you can easily navigate your phones screen and place it face down on any flat surface and on the rear the camera bar is also protected really well with the camera bar recessed in the case and again stops it getting marked and again lets you put it down on a flat surface in confidence, the keys are tactile too and work well as does wireless charging and you can also use a lanyard strap if you wish to do so.

Overall these cases do a good job and will give you some peace of mind should you drop your device and not expensive either.
