The Edifier Hecate G1000 II Desktop Computer Speakers are an affordable pair of speakers that are portable and fucntional not only with your laptop or PC but with phones tablets and gaming devices which makes them really versatile for a user with several of the above gadgets like me.

In the home or office these look neat they are small and have nice RGB lighting effects and do not take up much space like more conventional speakers and can be even packed into a travel bag if travelling which is great.

They have rubber feet underneath to keep them in postion and several buttons on top of the left speaker for volume control connectivity and EQ settings and also present in the Edifier ConneX App

Testing on PC and mobile these speakers pack a punch and sound good and with the use of the Edifier ConneX App enhances the user experience with audio and of course visual with the RGB lighting effects.

Connectivity is excellent here with several options for users which again makes them more versatile and not restricting use they are simple plug and play speaker too which is great.

Highs lows and mids sound good as do all other genres tested during my use and overall a pleasant listiening experience ehanced more so on gaming and mobile devices outperforming built in standard speakers which are often below par in general and these will change this instantly.

Microsoft employees charity cycle raises over €300,000 for LauraLynn

Microsoft Ireland employees have completed the final 360km stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way as part of their annual charity cycle, raising more than €300,000 – the most they’ve ever raised in a single year – in support of LauraLynn, Ireland’s only children’s hospice.

The charity cycle, which began in 2014 with just 10 cyclists, has grown into a major annual fundraising event. This year, 100 cyclists and support crew took on the three-day and 360kms cycling challenge from Letterkenny to Buncrana, County Donegal, battling wet weather, steep climbs, and winding roads – all in the name of supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Over the course of the last 12 years, the Microsoft team have raised more than €1.7 million for LauraLynn, having cycled more than 4,560km.‌‌ The funds raised go directly to LauraLynn to help provide care in the Hospice, symptom management, short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care, as well as family supports and bereavement care to children with life-limiting conditions and their family units across Ireland.

In 2024 alone, LauraLynn supported 670 families across Ireland, with 119 new referrals accepted to its hospice service providing 1,677 nights of care to those who need it.

This year’s cycle is particularly significant as it coincides with Microsoft’s 40th anniversary in Ireland, reflecting the long-standing commitment of its employees to giving back and making a meaningful impact in their local communities.

Microsoft Ireland’s annual charity cycle raises over €296,000 for LauraLynn

Building on a decade long legacy of giving and community, Microsoft Ireland employees have once again completed their annual charity cycle along the Wild Atlantic Way, raising over €296,000 this year for LauraLynn, Ireland’s only children’s hospice.

Now in its 11th year, the annual fundraising challenge brought together 105 cyclists and support crew who over the course of three days undertook a 360-kilometre journey from Ballina, Co. Mayo, to Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

Since its launch in 2014 with just 10 participants, the Microsoft Ireland annual charity cycle has raised over €1.4 million for LauraLynn. The vital funds help to support LauraLynn’s work in providing palliative care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. This includes expanding the reach of services LauraLynn offers, including symptom management, planned short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care, crisis care and bereavement support.

In more recent years, this expansion has seen LauraLynn’s hospice care being provided to children and their families in their own home. LauraLynn has added two new community teams in Cork and Galway, and it has been able to extend the reach of the Dublin team throughout the greater Leinster region. In 2024 LauraLynn provided 2,471 community visits across the country.

For this last cycle the Microsoft team set out with an ambitious goal of raising €100,000 but proudly exceeded it due to the team’s deep commitment to the hundreds of families who benefit from LauraLynn’s services.

Piceasoft introduces new, unique solutions to extend the lifecycle of mobile devices and advance the circular economy

Finnish circular economy company Piceasoft introduces major updates to its unique-to-the-industry PiceaOnline platform to boost circular economy, increase customer choices, and broaden retailer business and sustainability program opportunities in the used mobile phones market.

Mobile phones are one the most common electronic devices, but at the same time, one of the least recycled or resold. According to the International Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) forum, 5.3 billion mobile phones were thrown away in the year 2022 alone. With many of these potentially reusable, better access to mobile reselling opportunities could significantly reduce the 53.6 million tonnes of e-waste produced annually, a significant amount of which comes from discarded mobile devices.

Also, there is a chronic shortage of pre-owned mobile phones in Europe, so the sales of used phones are severely limited by supply. Used phones are exported from the USA, which partly meets the demand. But US devices are not CE marked, and only phones with CE approval can officially be sold in Europe. While compliance with CE standards varies across Europe, this further complicates the availability of used devices.

Despite the many mobile phone trade-in programs from operators and retailers, it is estimated that less than 20% of consumers recycle their phones. One major reason is the lack of transparency in the trade-in process: many times, the actual trade price for the old phone can be significantly lower than the original estimation due to the shortcomings in accuracy and lack of transparency of the diagnostics and evaluation process. These issues limit consumer options, demotivate them to recycle phones, and hinder trust towards the whole trade-in process.

Expleo targets £130K for charities in Tech Cycle Challenge

Expleo, a global technology, engineering and consulting service provider, is today announcing its fifth annual Tech & Engineering Teams Cycle Challenge. The company plans to raise £25K for NSPCC and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) at this year’s event on Saturday, 27th May, bringing the total sum raised through the cycle challenge to £130K.

After a three-year hiatus, Expleo’s biggest annual charity fundraiser is back. This year’s event features more than 100 cyclists from technology companies based in Northern Ireland, with esteemed cyclist John Madden leading the group. With the choice of a 40km or 80km course, participants will start and end their journey in Ballygally, Co. Antrim, while taking in the breathtaking views of the Causeway Coastal Route and The Glens on the way.

Since its inception in 2016, the Cycle Challenge has raised £105K, with all proceeds going directly to NSPCC. This year’s challenge will also see AANI benefit from the initiative. To date, the funds raised have allowed NSPCC to deliver its Speak Out, Stay Safe message to 60,521 school children in Northern Ireland, providing them with knowledge to stay safe from abuse and neglect. Additionally, the funds will sustain AANI’s rapid air response services, aiding in urgent medical assistance to save lives in the NI region.

The sportive will see local pharmacy chains providing aid and a local retailer supplying nutrition. Spirit AeroSystems, Liberty IT, Energia, PwC, Allstate Northern Ireland and Telefónica Tech are long-term supporters of the event and will be involved. Additionally, Splash Community Projects UK, Pharmacy Plus and Championship Ireland have recently joined to lend their support to the event.
