Newry Company Provides Testing for Launch of James Webb Telescope – Resonate Testing.

NEWRY company, Resonate Testing, the leading commercial test house on the island of Ireland, conducted high level vibration and SRS shock testing on equipment that was used as part of the successful launch of the James Webb telescope on Christmas Day.

The telescope, the largest, most powerful and complex telescope ever built, has been described as a “time machine” by scientists and will allow astronomers to study the beginning of the universe shortly after the big bang, 13.8 billion years ago, as well as hunting for signs of life-supporting planets in our own galaxy.

Resonate Testing worked with Dublin based Réaltra Space Systems Engineering, which played a critical role in the launch by providing video images of the separation of the fairings (equipment used to protect the spacecraft during launch), and the spacecraft from the rocket.

Réaltra Space Systems ensured that all products underwent a rigorous “qualification” test campaign, which validated that the design could survive the harsh environments of the launch and space with sufficient margin. The process included extensive testing by Resonate Testing’s experienced and knowledgeable team to ensure the tests were completed to the required space industry standards.

Speaking about the launch of the most ambitious robot probe ever built, the $10bn James Webb telescope, which was blasted into space on top of a giant European rocket, Managing Director of Resonate Testing, Tom Mallon, said “Christmas was extra special this year. As a company we were extremely proud to have played a part in the successful launch of the huge Ariane 5 launcher and the James Webb telescope from the European Space Agency’s station in French Guiana.

“We have been working with Realtra Space for some time, and in recent years we have been competing on a global level by exploiting key upstream resources and developing world-class space downstream capabilities.”

Resonate Testing operates from its Centre of Excellence for Space in Newry and provides a range of testing processes across many sectors. The company has seen an increasing number of tests within the Space Sector, which can be attributed to its ability to rapidly develop and approve new capabilities, following requests from customers – not just in the space sector, but across the many industries that they service. This demonstrates Resonate Testing’s exceptional engineering services as a tried and tested facilitator.

In 2020, the company was awarded Platinum in the Innovate NI Innovation Accreditation programme for its cutting-edge processes that seen the delivery of high-quality live stream testing to global customers, including Réaltra, throughout the global pandemic.

FREE NOW partners with Zipp Mobility to integrate micro-mobility services in app across Ireland

Leading multi-mobility app FREE NOW and Zipp Mobility (Zipp), a leading Irish micro-mobility operator have today announced that they are joining forces with aims to integrate Zipp’s eScooters and eBikes on the FREE NOW app this year. This partnership will enable passengers to book Zipp’s micro-mobility transport options via the FREE NOW app when Zipp rolls out its services across Ireland in 2022.

The announcement comes off the back of the recently announced Road Traffic & Roads Bill 2021 which will legalise eScooter use in public places as public demand grows for flexible and sustainable transport options. Indeed, recent research conducted by FREE NOW shows that 40% of its passengers plan to use eScooters like Zipp’s for everyday transport when they are made widely available in Irish cities this year, and three quarters think that Ireland needs more sustainable, electric transport options in line with other European countries.

Zipp, headquartered at NovaUCD, has already launched in the UK and mainland Europe and plans to launch both eBikes and eScooters across Ireland in 2022 along with beginning operations in Portugal and Spain.

FREE NOW’s partnership with Zipp and its partnership announcements in 2021 with other eScooter players are an extension of its successful European eScooter rollout to date, and highlights FREE NOW’s commitment to empower sustainable urban mobility solutions in Ireland.

Commenting on the partnership with Zipp, Niall Carson, General Manager of FREE NOW Ireland said: “We are delighted to partner with Irish micro-mobility operator Zipp and share common ambitions to change, and ultimately improve, the way people across Ireland approach daily transport. It’s a really exciting time for the industry now that legislation on e-scooters is in motion, and we look forward to having eScooters available on our app in 2022. We understand that our customers want to make more sustainable choices and having the option to book an eScooter or EV taxi facilitates this. Using FREE NOW allows you to choose the best means of transport for you and your specific journey on any given day. Some longer trips make more sense in a taxi and for others using an eScooter or eBike will be quicker! It’s all about convenience and giving our customers the choice.”

Charlie Gleeson, Founder and CEO, Zipp Mobility said, “We are thrilled to join the group of operators that are able to offer their micro-mobility services on the FREE NOW platform. At Zipp we understand that micro-mobility is not a ‘silver bullet’ solution to decarbonising transport so we must collaborate with platforms like FREE NOW to give our customers a full spectrum of sustainable transport options. This is the only way we can meaningfully reduce our reliance on the private car and get to net-zero emissions in transport.”

He added, “This year we hope to launch our eScooters and eBikes in cities across Ireland including Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and this partnership will be a great asset to our users. Zipp was founded with Ireland in mind and we are so excited to bring our ethos of “mobility done right” to Irish cities during 2022.”

Adyen launches Android POS terminals

Adyen, the global payments platform of choice for many of the world’s leading companies, today announced the launch of mobile Android point of sale (POS) terminals in the EU, UK, and the United States. The devices represent a fundamental change in the role of the payment terminal, functioning as an all-in-one solution, eliminating the need for separate cash registers, barcode scanners, and customer facing displays.

Additionally, the terminals come with an app management system, allowing merchants to upload and manage the apps they use every day, for inventory management, loyalty programs, returns and more. The launch of these multi-purpose terminals will not only reduce the cost of their hardware, but also help businesses drastically improve in-person customer experiences.

Palisis, a provider of sales and operations solutions for tourism and transportation business, and Immfly, an in-flight digital services provider, are among Adyen’s first merchants to roll out the terminals.

“Consumers increasingly want to pay for products, tickets, or their meal where they are, without standing in lines. Existing mobile POS solutions typically involve multiple pieces of hardware. Our all-in-one Android terminals combine the flexibility of the Android platform with the security of a PCI certified payment terminal. They support a vast array of use cases, and both Immfly and Palisis are great examples of how they bring increased mobility and functionality to our merchants and their staff,” said Jan-Pieter Lips, Head of Unified Commerce at Adyen.

“Convenience is key in providing the best customer experiences, and these terminals help merchants meet that standard. Additionally, the use of these devices allows the merchants we work with to run a lean operational set-up, foregoing the need to install separate systems to make it all work.”

Judopay partners with Mastercard to revolutionise mobile purchases in the post-pandemic environment

Judopay, a leading mobile payments provider, today announces that it’s partnering with Mastercard on its SCA compliant (Secure Customer Authentication, which requires two-factor authentication to ensure it is in line with Europe’s new regulations), Click to Pay solution.

Click to Pay offers consumers and merchants a more convenient and secure guest checkout experience supported by intelligent recognition. Along with offering enhanced security, merchants across the Food & Beverage, Mobility and other sectors will also benefit from no additional transaction fees, as well as no additional onboarding or integration.
