Fitbit adds Premium Sleep Profile and we check out the Fitbit Sense

Fitbit have launched a new feature which is the Premium Sleep Profile and what a great to to test out their Fitbit Sense which has just arrived and our first time to check out the brand on site which we look forward too, on first look at the device it feels premium and has more features than I had expected in comparison to some other similar products I have here in for review and I quite like it.

With health and fitness being a daily part of people’s lives now people want more features and Fitbit have launched a new option which is great for those who track their sleep never mind the stress something which I both lack and have an abundance of so for me an ideal time to check out what is on offer here.

This new Fitbit Premium feature offers a new longitudinal analysis of your sleep patterns. It also makes your sleep data even easier to interpret with fun animal characters, so you can take steps to improve your sleep quality and, in turn, your overall health.

How does it work?

Wear your Fitbit device to sleep for at least 14 nights per calendar month to receive an assessment. The more you wear the device to sleep, the more precise the evaluation. Sleep can vary significantly from night to night, so it’s helpful to analyze your sleep data over a longer period from your own sleep environment to uncover more insights into your habits and how you can improve.

As a Premium member you will see your Sleep Profile, including your sleep animal and monthly sleep analysis, on the first day of every month. Animals can change from month to month, and data collected throughout the month will inform the next animal you receive the following month. There is no “ideal” animal – each one can be used to better understand your sleep patterns and how you can improve your sleep quality.

An integrated approach to realise a 5G future

By Marc O’Regan, Chief Technology Officer for EMEA at Dell Technologies

5G is set to completely transform the mobile communications network. Yet rarely discussed are two key components to its success: edge and cloud. The reality is that cloud solutions facilitate the cost efficiencies and pace of innovation that make 5G such an exciting prospect – and hybrid cloud is the firm favourite amongst organisations seeking new network speeds.

But businesses, like telecom operators, for example, can’t simply adopt existing available cloud technology. Instead, they need a bespoke cloud platform designed for their requirements and challenges. If 5G Private Mobility and associated technologies are to achieve their true potential, telecom operators need to incorporate highly scalable cloud-native infrastructure into their rollouts. This is a complex task, requiring expertise from trusted technology partners.

The 5G Challenge

Understanding that software is just one piece of the cloud is important. Hardware, services, and additional tools are needed to bring a cohesive cloud strategy together. Therefore, collaboration with experts and integration with other technologies are important parts of the 5G ecosystem in order to achieve a successful outcome.

Many need to question their understanding of 5G – it’s often not what they think. It is software driven, born from and Native to Cloud – and it’s still relatively young. It is the transformer and provider of new cloud-based services. One of the first beneficiaries of this will be rural broadband services. 5G will help progress rural connectivity by using mobile networks to close digital divides, bringing broadband to homes at a reduced cost – without the disruptive need to drag fibre up the driveway.

Meanwhile, 5G will also power a new range of devices and services across industries. In high-density areas such as a Rugby or football stadium – where previously signal bars would be low – now, not only will fans have accessible signal, but they will also have entirely new content-driven experiences. For example, streaming a try or goal via mobile phone from a close-up viewpoint will augment the in-stadium experience. Similarly, at live gigs, concert goers will be able to stream close-ups of their favourite musicians and players live.

The opportunities

These opportunities are driven by fundamental cultural shifts – we have moved from an era of content consumption to content creation, transforming our technological needs.

As businesses respond to the potential offered by lower latency, capturing these new enhanced services will enable organisations to monetise 5G networks. But in order to do this, they need to be nurtured, provided with technological expertise and develop a good level of business savvy.

In the industrial world, 5G will be an enabler of smart factories, providing connectivity for devices in remote locations and streamlining processes. Industrial IoT (Internet of Things) and automation powered by edge technologies are key in this context. Automation has a role to play in the network itself, helping service providers deploy their work. For enterprises looking to leverage automation in their factories, such as warehouse automation for retailers, 5G accelerates that automation with an immediate impact on both the bottom line and the top line of an enterprise. It will be possible for businesses to achieve more in a shorter time because the robots will go faster, and because the response to any needs or obstructions will be resolved faster.

We also have the intersection between 5G and other Emerging Technologies like Machine Learning and Intelligence that will allow us to build and scale new digital services at the point of Data creation. Using new blends of algorithms, Data Scientists can work in teams of OT and IT personnel to scrum their way toward new essential services delivered through information that is extracted from the Edge, near the sensors, alarms, pumps and actuators powered by new and powerful AI Models that are driven by architecture that combines the ability to drive high yield and draw low power in the factory environments and beyond.

Bespoke cloud technologies for telecoms

Underpinning everything is the quest to modernise networks and embrace cloud operating models which provide more choice, speed, and agility – especially in the vital sector of telecommunications. Ultimately, telecom operators want Open Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies that offer better performance and efficiency. The growing open ecosystem offers telecoms greater choice in their technologies and partners as they modernise to cloud-native networks. Telecoms need the various technologies of the open ecosystem to work together seamlessly to offer differentiated edge services and reduce costs.

That’s where Dell Technologies can help and add value. We began building telecom-grade servers and partnering with telecom cloud vendors to create telecom cloud platforms that are pre-integrated, pre-validated, and proven to work out of the box. We have added infrastructure automation tools to make it simple to deploy and manage virtualised network functions at the edge, in the RAN, and the core on purpose-built, standards-based, bare-metal servers. This will give cloud and service providers a scalable cloud foundation. Also, with the introduction of Dell Telecom Multi-Cloud Foundation, we are providing telecoms with a simple way to build and deploy open, cloud-first networks faster with less cost. We’re laying the cloud foundation for an open software ecosystem.

According to Government targets, all Irish households and businesses are set to be covered by a Gigabit network no later than 2028 and all populated areas by 5G by 2030. 5G is an indispensable part of our data-driven future and can unlock the value of data in unprecedented ways. However, to get there, telecommunications companies and the public sector alike need expert partners and a solid foundation of cloud and edge. By adopting this approach, they can deliver agility and reduce operational and capital expenditures, with an open, software defined, cloud native, and data centric approach that can bring innovation to market and allow them to realise the vast opportunities presented by the 5G future.

NEFF celebrates 20 years of the Slide & Hide

NEFF celebrates 20 years of the Slide & Hide feature, the first and only fully retracting oven door. It is now 20 years ago that NEFF broke the rules with an oven door. Until that day, every oven door in every kitchen worked in the same way: by folding open. Instead of doing what everyone did, our engineers and designers at NEFF followed their own bold idea to create a different opening mechanism.

Ralf Grobleben, Head of Design now and then, remembers: “In the very beginning, the Slide&Hide® door was just a vague vision but with more and more ideas on how to make it happen, the vision became clearer. As with many things that challenge the norm, the idea was not initially received with great enthusiasm, the reactions were a bit more reserved. Our designers and engineers had many challenges to overcome; one that caused us to scratch our heads for a while was the mechanical stress of the door mechanism. In the end, it was realised, partly through an attitude of openness and the art of seeing what does not exist yet. The vision was always to achieve something that slides smoothly, is practical and also fun to use.”

With each evolution, Slide&Hide® was improved, soon not compromising on cavity space and today, over 2 million people enjoy the feature that was first launched 20 years ago.

Instead of just celebrating an oven door this year, we also want to celebrate something much bigger: the boldness, creativity and open-mindedness that made Slide&Hide® possible. We want to inspire people to break free from common rules around eating, cooking and kitchen – and instead open their minds, unleash their cooking passion and let nothing block their creativity – whether that is old-fashioned kitchen rules or an oven door. PSB Launches Passif 50 Speaker to Celebrate 50 Years

PSB Speakers, innovator of high-fidelity speakers since 1972, releases the Passif 50 Anniversary Edition Standmount Loudspeaker in celebration of its 50-year milestone. The design and technologies of the Passif 50 model leverage five decades of dedicated research and pay homage to the early Passif II model first released in 1974. The Passif 50 will be available to pre-order online the first of August with shipping this September, and it retails at USD $2499/GBP £2499/EUR €2999/CAD $3299. As a show of gratitude for the brand’s devoted fanbase, the first 500 units sold of the Passif 50 will contain a handwritten letter from Paul Barton and includes a QR code with an offer to receive a gift pack that includes a cotton canvas backpack, double-walled water bottle, and commemorative keychain.

Capturing a Legacy

In 1974, PSB Founder and Chief Designer Paul Barton developed the Passif II at a time when his initial acoustic research had led to the establishment of PSB’s design philosophy. The Passif II was the first model to incorporate those principals and demonstrate what is now praised as the brand’s signature “True to Nature” sound. Paying tribute to the Passif II, the Passif 50 represents the PSB legacy that has remained strong over 50 years of speaker innovation – a series of products marked by tonal accuracy, spatial realism and freedom from distortion.

Retro-Modern Aesthetic

The Passif 50 features 1970s inspired elements like an open-grained walnut veneer cabinet, magnetically attached woven cloth grilles and dedicated stands. The loudspeaker evokes a sense of nostalgia with its retro details while being constructed with modern materials that align to current tastes. Other unique embellishments include a pull tab on the front grille, which sports the retro PSB logo – originally hand drawn by Paul in his high school geography class – and a rear-panel plaque adorned by a maple leaf with an inscription that reads, “Passif 50 – 1972-2022.”

A Landmark Design

The design of the Passif 50 mirrors its famous 1970’s forefather but incorporates the most current flagship level components and benefits from 50 years of acoustic research. The result is a loudspeaker with classic 70’s looks but achieves a level of performance well beyond the capabilities of its ancestors.

The titanium dome tweeter employs a powerful neodymium magnet and ferrofluid damping, for higher output, improved power handling, and reduced distortion. A phase plug in front of the tweeter’s dome directs the tweeter’s output to ensure a wide and consistent dispersion well beyond the traditional listening window. The result is a speaker which creates a wide and deep soundstage with very acute imaging which isn’t reliant on a precise listening position. A felt pad surrounding the tweeter minimizes edge diffraction for improved transparency and more stable imaging.

The woofer and passive radiator have cast aluminum baskets that resist flexing, and filleted rubber surrounds that dampen cone resonances, resulting in smoother response and reduced distortion. Considerable engineering effort was invested in refining the interaction between the woofer and the passive radiator. The result is a state of perfect balance of their opposing forces.

All joints in the heavily braced enclosure are mitred for improved fit and finish and reduced cabinet vibration. Featuring dual five-way binding posts, the Passif 50 can be bi-wired or bi-amped.

How to develop an ERP? A step-by-step guide

For every company, there comes a moment when paperwork-based management turns into a liability. That’s when you know it’s time to consider a more high-tech approach to handling your resources: Enterprise Resource Planning software.

In this guide, we’ll discuss what ERP systems are, what they bring to the table, and how to develop them in a way that ensures your business gets the most out of the final product. So, let’s start from the beginning.

What is an ERP?

An ERP is a type of software that helps businesses manage their processes, including logistics, accounting, inventory management, HR management, and so on. It’s primarily meant to boost profits and operational efficiency by means of automation and keeping everything in one place.

As technologies progress, so does ERP software. The ERP solutions of today often employ AI and machine learning to further raise the effectiveness of their management tools. While there are ready-made ERP applications on the market, many organisations choose to hire an ERP development company to develop a custom solution that precisely caters to their business needs.

What are the benefits of getting an ERP?

Now that you know what an ERP system is, let’s talk about what it can do for your organisation.

  1. Improved efficiency. ERP helps your company save tons of time (and consequently, money) thanks to the automation of routine and repetitive tasks.
  2. Less paperwork. ERP makes generating reports much faster, and generally streamlines the process of submitting all kinds of paperwork.
  3. Data-driven decision making. ERPs facilitate more informed decision making by having all the relevant data easily accessible, on top of providing auto generated reports and analytics.
  4. Centralised information storage. Instead of being scattered across several different databases, all the data is conveniently gathered, processed, and stored in one place, which removes the need for regular checks and synchronisation.
  5. Compliance made simple. Every business must maintain regulatory compliance, and ERP systems help with that by keeping track of the latest industry regulations with built-in compliance features.
  6. Great scalability. ERP software is very flexible in adjusting to different kinds of situations, as the systems can be easily expanded and reduced depending on your needs.
  7. Superior collaboration. Having all data stored in one place ties the many departments together, even if they are kilometres apart. This makes for a more productive work environment, promoting fast and accurate communication.
  8. Enhanced customer service. ERP can greatly increase the quality of your customer relations with smart customer behaviour analysis, customer history, and all the order and service data available at the click of a button.

Suffice it to say, ERP systems are incredibly useful and are irreplaceable when it comes to managing sizable businesses. But the available market solutions won’t always have the exact array of features your company needs, which is why you may want to create an ERP system of your own. So, how does one do that?

How to develop an ERP?

Building an ERP system is a complex process that can nonetheless be broken down into a number of simple steps. Let’s start from the beginning.

Step 1. Carry out a goals and requirements analysis

To develop a high-quality product, you must have a concrete aim in mind. Try talking to different employees to figure out which tasks of theirs could be improved with an ERP system. Do industry research. This will help you solidify a set of goals and requirements for the project.

Step 2. Select a development partner

Your development partner can make or break the project. Consider your options very carefully, and go for reliable, industry-savvy companies. A good partner will always provide relevant guidance, advice, and, of course, high-quality service.

Step 3. Consider UX/UI design

The UX and UI of an ERP system should be informative and user-friendly. Explore what elements and features are common in ERP design and prepare a blueprint of your own – this will be very helpful when creating mockups and the final UI.

Step 4. Choose a technology stack

Think about which platform you want to develop for and select the technology to build the software on accordingly. C++ or C# are the common choices for Windows devices, while Swift or Objective-C are typical for Mac OS. If you want to create a web-based application, consider Node.js, Angular, JavaScript, or Bootstrap.

Step 5. Decide on the integrations

Third-party integrations are more or less unavoidable when creating an ERP solution. The services ERPs can connect with often include CRM, e-Commerce, customer service modules, office suites, and even other ERPs.

Step 6. Focus on communication

Over the course of the development process, you will have to regularly contact the development team to catch up on the latest updates and happenings in the project. Timely communication will help adapt to changing situations in a way that will minimise extra costs, so make sure to report all the changes in plans, deadlines, design, budget, and other features to the developers as soon as possible.

Step 7. Test the software

Before the product is released, it needs to be reviewed. Firstly, check if the ERP meets all the security, functionality, and integration requirements, as well as follows industry compliances. In addition to testing within the development company or your own organisation, you can employ focus groups to get a broader QA coverage.

You’re done!

Now that your solution is fully tested and compliant with industry standards, it’s ready to be released. While it may take some time to adapt to a new managerial system, the benefits will make themselves apparent very fast: you will enjoy smoother and more effective business processes, and your customers will appreciate a faster, better service.
