#RiskIQ Reveals Digital Footprint Snapshot – On-demand, Cost-Effective External Asset Intelligence Report

RiskIQ’s new digital footprint snapshot which provides organisations with an automated, on-demand intelligence report of their internet-facing digital assets. Snapshot reports offer a quick, easy, and cost-effective way to discover and understand the diverse, distributed, and dynamic set of digital assets connected to an organisation outside the firewall. This is a really cool addition to the RiskIQ armoury..

RiskIQ, the leader in digital threat management, today unveiled RiskIQ Digital Footprint Snapshot, which provides organisations with an automated, on-demand intelligence report of their internet-facing digital assets. Snapshot reports offer a quick, easy, and cost-effective way to discover and understand the diverse, distributed, and dynamic set of digital assets connected to an organisation outside the firewall. Enterprises can incorporate this digital footprint intelligence as part of their integrated risk management program aimed to reduce their attack surface and protect their business.

For a no-cost preview, organisations can log into RiskIQ Community Edition. Here, companies can access RiskIQ’s entry-level products, such as Digital Footprint, and view a free high-level snapshot. Users simply log in with their corporate email address to obtain an immediate glimpse into their external asset map and inventory.

According to Forrester Research, digital footprints are incredibly vast and chaotic. “A firm’s digital footprints encompass every touch point, mention and affiliation that links to the company. Given the large number of social networks, mobile apps, and websites where this activity can occur, the number of associated corporate accounts, sites, apps, and ads can easily rise into the thousands for large organisations. When you account for the unowned but associated digital elements – including those owned by affiliated third parties, associated with current and former employees, and created fraudulently– manual tracking becomes untenable.”1

As organisations embrace digital channels to enhance products, promote business, and extend customer and employee engagement, their digital presence and attack surface grows. This attack surface is comprised of known, unknown, unsanctioned, poorly maintained, and lost internet-facing assets that may contain vulnerabilities susceptible to attack by external threat actors. Given mounting breach, reputation, and privacy compliance risks, security teams must have the ability to map, inventory, and monitor business-relevant assets outside the firewall. Digital Footprint Snapshot offers a convenient and economical starting point to understand an organisation’s digital footprint and facilitate means to improve its security posture.

“RiskIQ Digital Footprint allows organisations to more effectively discover, map, and monitor their internet-facing digital assets that may be susceptible to exploitation or compromise. Now with the release of Snapshot, enterprises can obtain an on-demand report to account for often hidden and vulnerable digital assets, and use this report data to enrich their integrated risk management program,” said Steve Ginty, senior product manager at RiskIQ.

RiskIQ Digital Footprint Snapshot allows any enterprise to readily discover and inventory external web assets and infrastructure across diverse domains, IPs, hosting providers, service providers, and affiliates that are connected to an organisation. Snapshot leverages RiskIQ’s continuous internet reconnaissance, vast internet data sets, and advanced analytics to deliver an interactive Snapshot report comprised of a filterable graph and inventory details of connected, internet-facing assets.

Threat defenders, such as those who manage vulnerability assessment and penetration testing programs, can interact with visual aids and insights to uncover and account for external assets and pinpoint potential security and compliance exposures that require attention.

The online Snapshot report advantages are:

  • On-demand – Extensive, active internet reconnaissance capabilities allow RiskIQ to package cost-effective, point-in-time external asset intelligence reports for all organisations
  • Automated – Automatically generates a list of external assets that are connected to an organisation, derived from keystone, owned assets and RiskIQ’s observed internet data sets and advanced algorithms
  • Extensive – Drill down into assets and see details like IP address, hosts, ownership information, and server type, as well as components and frameworks running on the asset
  • Actionable – Online report can be shared internally and allows for external asset data export via CSV into popular vulnerability, GRC, and asset management solutions

Availability and Migration Path

RiskIQ Digital Footprint Snapshot is available today. Through RiskIQ Digital Footprint Community Edition, users can readily see a preliminary external asset map and inventory at no charge. RiskIQ Digital Footprint Snapshot, point-in-time digital footprint intelligence, can be purchased as a single, one-off report starting at $6,250 or a set of four scheduled, quarterly reports starting at $20,000. Users can upgrade to RiskIQ Digital Footprint Premium Edition to gain a full, curated inventory that is continuously updated and actively detailed to identify new assets and possible component vulnerabilities (CVEs). RiskIQ Digital Footprint Enterprise Edition offers active monitoring of selected assets to alert on changes to assets or indications of component compromise, such as phishing or malware.

Cloud CIX breaks ground on ambitious €6m expansion plan #CloudCIX #Data

Cloud CIX the largest commercial data centre outside Dublin, has announced ambitious plans to expand its capabilities by 500%, which will be a game changer for the Cork and Munster region.

The development, located in Hollyhill, will be completed in April 2018 – to coincide with Cloud CIX’s tenth anniversary – and will nearly double the footprint of the site to 32,000 square feet.  More significantly this extension allows CIX to extend capability from 500kW to 3 MW, making it a significant facility by international standards. The technical specification for the new build is one of the best in the world, allowing clients achieve both high power density and low and industry leading energy efficiency.

Cloud CIX is the EU data centre with the lowest latency (the transit time for a message to reach its destination) to North America, and the Irish data centre with the lowest latency to London, which arguably makes it the best single data centre in the world from which to serve digital assets. This will provide Cork and the Munster region with a competitive advantage for many sectors including Financial Services.

This €6million investment with an expected follow-on investment of a further €6million in IT infrastructure, is the second major expansion since Cloud CIX was established in 2008, and follows the opening of a second data hall in 2014.

With ISO27001:2013 and ISO 9001:20015 registration, Cloud CIX more than 150 small and large clients including Dell EMC, Masterlink Logistics, Bon Secours Hospital Group, Populo, Viatel, and the PM Group. It continues to enjoy rapid growth due to the expanding service offering and the superb connectivity, low latency and a highly resilient network, which are now essential for modern businesses.  With the new expansion plans not only will Cloud CIX have enhanced capacity but its team will be able to provide a one stop shop, full suite of turnkey IT services for clients.

Commenting on the expansion, CEO and owner, Jerry Sweeney said

“Since opening the business in 2008, we have seen an amazing increase in the sophistication our customers’ demands from us. Initially we were focused on networking, power and cooling but soon our customers needed managed services. Cyber Security and Cloud Services are the challenges today. At Cloud CIX we anticipate the demands of the marketplace and we continue to invest and deliver capability to match these demands”.

This significant development is big news for Cork and beyond, as it further strengthens the region as an IT power centre, helping to attract even more businesses in the sector to locate here.  Jerry Sweeney has also adopted a policy of ‘shopping local’ and has worked with Cork based companies and suppliers wherever possible in the expansion process.

Speaking about Cork, Jerry added

“I really believe Cork has the potential to be a major connectivity centre similar to Marseilles. With twelve major subsea cables, Marseilles connects Europe to Africa across the Mediterranean and via the Suez Canal to the Far East. Cork should focus on becoming a switching centre with connections to North and South America, mainland Europe, and the Far East via the Arctic. With Cork’s existing renewables focused power infrastructure and ever improving subsea connectivity, Cork will attract more data centre business. Cloud CIX continues to lead the way on this path for the region.”

CEO of Cork Chamber of Commerce, Conor Healy said

“We warmly welcome this announcement as we see the enhanced and expanded facility as being a huge asset to the region. Superb online connectivity is an essential ingredient for all businesses today and Cloud CIX have played a significant role in delivering this to the region. The enhanced offering will make the region even more attractive and we will use this as a key selling point when marketing the region to businesses who looking to open new locations”

#HBAN wins Best Business Angel Week Award at EBAN Awards 2017 #EnterpriseIreland

HBAN, the all-island group responsible for the promotion of business angel investment in Ireland, today announces that it won the Best Business Angel Week Award at the EBAN (European Business Angel Network) Gala Dinner Awards Ceremony held in Málaga, Spain on Thursday, 8th June.

HBAN, a joint initiative of InterTradeIreland and Enterprise Ireland, won the prestigious European accolade based on the success of its Business Angel Roadshow that it ran in November last year. The roadshow took place over the course of 48 hours in four locations: Waterford, Dublin, Cork and Galway. The programme raised a total of €6 million in new angel funding, recruited 35 new angels and raised the profile and awareness of HBAN. In addition, two companies – Rubicoin and Glofox – both closed investment rounds following pitches at the roadshow.

HBAN’s Business Angel Roadshow raised a total of €6 million in new angel funding and recruited 35 new angels in just 48 hours last November. The initiative was awarded the Best Business Angel Week Award at the EBAN (European Business Angel Network) Gala Dinner Awards Ceremony held in Málaga, Spain on Thursday, 8th June. Pictured at the Awards are (L to R) Francisco de la Torre, the Mayor of Malaga; Julian Seymour, HBAN Consultant; Paula Finnan, HBAN Team Member; Candance Johnson, President of EBAN.

HBAN saw off robust competition from other national European bodies to win this major international award.

HBAN set a very strong objective for itself in terms of delivering an extra €6 million of angel investment and running roadshows in four locations right around the country in just 48 hours. Moreover, the initial objective of attracting 27 new business angels was significantly surpassed, with 35 new angels coming on board, and some of these have invested already.

John Phelan, National Director of HBAN said, “We are delighted to have won this European award that recognises the success of our Business Angel Roadshow campaign.

“Our business angel week – with the roadshow as its centrepiece – was a huge success for us in terms of building awareness of angel investing in Ireland. The campaign was successful in helping us to recruit new business angels throughout the island of Ireland and we also raised incredible value in new funding for high potential Irish start-ups. There was a particular focus on PR and a major media campaign was executed around the Roadshow that included radio ads, radio interviews and news articles in national, business and regional media.”

Since 2007, HBAN angels have invested €73 million in 362 separate deals. When the €113 million invested by other funds in those deals is added, this is an overall total of €186 million invested in Irish start-ups in the last 10 years.

Cyber-Attack on the UK parliament- James Romer EMEA at SecureAuth comments. #cyberattack

Following the news that there was a cyber-attack on the UK parliament, James Romer, Chief Security Architect – EMEA at SecureAuth Corporation says..

It’s worrying that members of our parliament do not seem to be clued up on the security risks of weak passwords. The hackers specifically probed for those who were not following government protocol, and only updating passwords by simply varying letters and numbers. This leaves the door wide open for hackers. Individuals, especially those in governmental positions, need to have security more front of mind and realise that even the most minute security weakness can be exploited to gain access.

“Liam Fox, International trade secretary, hit the nail on the head by saying, “warning to everyone, we need more security and better passwords”. The way organisations approach authentication and securing credentials needs to be rethought. Simple two-factor authentication is no longer enough to safeguard against today’s attacks. It is important to deliver a form of authentication which feels low effort for the user yet has enhanced layers of protection working in the background. Adaptive access control techniques and identity based detection work invisibly to the user but work to protect, detect, and ultimately remediate attacks essentially rendering stolen credentials useless.”

Irish astronomer leads international team to make stellar discovery #Astronomy #Space

Irish Research Council Scholar and Astronomer at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Dr. Eamon O’Gorman led an international team of astronomers to make the most detailed image of the surface of a star (other than the sun) that has ever been created at radio wavelengths. The image was made using ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimetre Array), the world’s largest radio telescope.

The image was taken of Betelgeuse, the famous Red Supergiant located in the constellation Orion, and resulted in the discovery that the temperature in its inner atmosphere is not uniform. This could help explain how the atmosphere of these stars are heated, and how material from these stars is transported to the instellar medium.

Commenting on the discovery, Dr. Eamon O’Gorman said: ALMA now provides us with the capabilities to image surface features on nearby stars while also directly measuring the temperature of these features. We have known for decades that the visible surface of Betelgeuse is not uniform, but ALMA has now shown us in detail that the temperature in its inner atmosphere is also not uniform. It looks like these temperature fluctuations could be caused by magnetic fields, similar to what we see on the Sun, our nearest star.”

Also commenting on the image was Dr. Pierre Kervella, astronomer at the Paris Observatory and member of the team, “Located about 650 light years away, Betelgeuse is certainly not the closest star to our solar system, but its sheer size makes it an ideal target to image directly with ALMA. When we look at the night sky with our naked eyes, we see bright stars everywhere, but because they are so small, even the most powerful telescopes in the world struggle to image their surfaces. Our results show ALMA has the capability to image the surfaces of the largest stars in detail.

In terms of size, Betelgeuse is approximately 1,400 times larger than our Sun, and more than one billion times larger in terms of volume. As stars like Betelgeuse evolve, they expel an enormous amount of themselves back into the interstellar medium via stellar winds.  These winds contain crucial heavy elements that the stars have manufactured and are vital ingredients for the next generation of stars and planets.

The team’s results have recently been published in the journal ‘Astronomy & Astrophysics’.
