Recently we attended the official launch party for the all new Nokia 6 (2018) Nokia 7 Plus and the much hyped refreshed banana phone the 8110 4G which could be seen as a detox type phone with limited access but sports a hotspot which people tend to find odd, This is a nice phone and one to use perhaps if you want to cut down on your phone usage…
7 PLUS VS NOKIA 8/6
However the flagship device the Nokia 8 Sirocco will NOT BE on sale in Ireland at all which might come as bad news for some fans and potential buyers, With the 7 plus taking the limelight and its a fantastic looking phone especially in ceramic white one might understand why and what market the Sirocco 8 is intended for after all its a limited edition device but nonetheless it’s also a nice one. So if you want to purchase the device the old reliable channels will of course be available and of course the Nokia online store. Ireland is also not the first market to be left without this device.
Today we attended the official launch of the all new Nokia range recently announced which are the Nokia 8810 4G ,The Nokia 6.1 2018, Nokia 7 Plus which are due to launch next month, The 7 Plus will also be available from Vodafone May 1st, Three and Carphone Warehouse, Harvey Normans from the 3rd . All devices where on show today and we had some hands on time with the lot and also Zeiss Optics where present at the event showing us how their camera lenses are today compared to old and the difference is quite amazing on how things have evolved over the last few years when we last me them in Abu Dhabi at Nokia world..
First up the much-loved banana phone the Nokia 8110 4G which goes on sale for €79 Late July/ August which is not a bad price and on par with the 3310 when it launched last year, the device comes in two colours Yellow and Black and no mention of a Blue variant the device in hand feels really light and will be easy to one-handed and whilst using the phone the contour is just perfect and fits nicely on your face and like most we are custom to the flat phone feel, this will be a notable difference and much more comfortable to boot.. Recently we also spoke to TRT WORLD about the much loved 8110

The Nokia 6 2018
The Nokia 6 2018 is very well priced again this year and like last years model its built like a tank, One thing though this will BE EXCLUSIVE TO THREE IRELAND at €229 just like last year, this is not something everyone will want to hear but it’s confirmed, the device goes on sale next month and will also be available via the Nokia e-commerce store sim free the device feels good in hand and has a better spec sheet than last years and you can notice this even with the time we had with it.
The Nokia 7 Plus
This device will probably the one that people will go for,its stunning looking at it from any angle and there was two colours on show today ,with a ceramic feel backing it really feels nice to hold the Black is a fingerprint magnet but a case will fix that and the White version is just stunning and not a fingerprint magnet, with its 6 inch full HD 18:9 ratio.
Android One is onboard to and Nokia OZO spatial and not forgetting Bothie which we found first on the Nokia 8. With a ZEISS 12MP and 13MP telesensor that delivers 2 X Zoom photos are bound to be great for a point and shoot. The 7 Plus also goes on sale May 1st with operators and will cost just €399 SIM FREE.
ZEISS OPTICS
ZEISS where present at the event and told us of how they have progressed over the last few years since we first spoke to them at Nokia World in 2013, they are also delighted with the partnership and also spoke of how things are looking in the future and also (SIC) really excited about future products which obviously made my ears wag but that is all the information available today on show was camera parts new and old and an old Nokia N90 and 2520 check out some images below.

Over the last few months and perhaps more smartphones have been the talk of the day when it comes to safety with our kids, Internet access is available on many cheap phones today but this Nokia 106 keeps it simple and would be an ideal way to keep in touch with family or your younger kids and it has no internet access at all.
Some might find this a bit cruel but lets be honest its safe and simple and there is a radio built in too and has some games, its plenty for those younger children who insist on having a mobile without the frills.
The Nokia 8110 was quite a surprise announcement at MWC this year and it was the second retro phone to be brought to us by HMD Global and Nokia last year being the 3310 which has several iterations now due to its popularity. Dubbed as the banana phone many tech fans welcomed the move though some say it was another marketing trick by HMD Global and Nokia as they did before with the 3310 but the general public beg to differ on that and sales of the 3310 have been good and proven popular.
The 8810 reboot with 4G which will be in the region of €79 and is to hit the shelves later this year and at that price be it a nostalgic purchase or buying the phone to use as a main device it is cost-effective given its more a feature phone and not a fully fledged smart phone with its striking looks coming in Black and Yellow and there was a hint of a Blue version it surely will sell on its own merits.
I spoke to Kamali Melbourne at TRTWORLD about the Nokia 8810 and what I think of the device and what is happening. Watch their news bulletin or you can Skip to 10.25 for my discussion on the Nokia 8810. Watch out for more soon..
There was no shortage of handsets announced today at MWC 18 but for those who where expecting more such as many leaks suggested like the Nokia 8 pro and Nokia 10 will feel left out and perhaps will learn a lesson today, dont believe everything you read. Moving on though we did get 5 new handsets including a revived Nokia 8110 which looks really cool.
There is phones for evey pocket now from Nokia and HMD Global and a really strong partnership with Google and all devices from the Nokia 3 up will get Android ONE. Also there was talk about their partnership with ZEISS optics which is now on several devices and they also promised to improve their technology even more only 7 months after teaming back up with Nokia..
First up is the 8810 with 4G – €79 ships in May.
This device will start shipping in May at an average cost of 79 euros and I really like this one, dubbed the banana phone from its days of old it will come packed with features and include a WiFi hotspot Google Maps and Assistant and of course all your social media apps, the device comes in two colours Black and Yellow..

Only in 2016 Nokia purchased Withings and now its up for review which some might find either too soon or perhaps a good idea. I own a few of their products myself and use them daily and it would be sad to see them go but business is business.
From what I have seen the Withings Brand was not widely available here and when it changed the Nokia branded health prodcuts did not replace them anywhere,Some pharmacies sold withings scales and again they where not replaced but it is good as a BRAND to see the NOKIA name on shelves in stores so people are aware.
One avenue that could have worked which was seen in the UK was to bundle products with the purchase of a Nokia 8 and they could continue to do so in the future but that remains to be seen and only time will tell. Currently on offer with the Nokia 8 now here is a free printer from another company with Vodafone and if you buy direct you could get the ZEISS VR ONE headset which is also a nice piece of kit we recently reviewed.
In the short press release Nokia said…
Nokia today announces that it has initiated a review of strategic options for its Digital Health business, which is part of Nokia Technologies. Digital Health’s business portfolio includes consumer and enterprise products, and it manufactures and sells an ecosystem of hybrid smart watches, scales and digital health devices to consumers and enterprise partners.
The strategic review of the Digital Health business may or may not result in any transaction or other changes. Any further announcements about the Digital Health business will be made if and when appropriate. The Patent Business, Brand Partnerships and Technology Licensing units in Nokia Technologies are not in the scope of this review.
