Dirac Live Ready Now Available on Select Bluesound Players

Bluesound, creators of award-winning hi-res multi-room streaming players, is thrilled to announce the arrival of Dirac Live readiness, the leading room correction technology, to select Bluesound players. Starting January 14, 2025, owners of the NODE (N132) and NODE ICON (N530) will receive a firmware update enabling compatibility with Dirac Live.

With the added purchase of a Room Calibration Kit and a Dirac Live license, these Bluesound customers will experience enhanced sound quality across any room of the house, regardless of the room’s unique acoustics. Meanwhile, customers of older NODE X (N131), NODE (N130), POWERNODE (N330), and POWERNODE EDGE (N230) players will also receive this feature before the summer of 2025.

Matt Simmonds, Product Manager for Bluesound, explains, “this launch is important to us since Dirac Live has been one of the most requested features from Bluesound customers due to its unique room correction methods that result in more transparent, balanced sound, and tighter bass and enhanced clarity.”

“We have also implemented Dirac filters before the internal DAC, which will allow those who want to bypass to an external DAC the same benefits,” adds Morten Nielsen, Associate Product Manager for Bluesound. “This has also been commonly requested by our customers, and we are happy to be able to deliver the feature in this way.”

Level Up Your Node

Dirac Live Ready means that Bluesound players are compatible with Dirac Live technology, and owners interested in this feature can separately purchase a Dirac Live license and Bluesound’s Room Calibration Kit, designed and approved for Dirac Live calibration.

The Kit includes a high performance omni-directional microphone sensitive to the full audible frequency range (20 Hz to 20 kHz). It connects to any laptop via a USB-A 2.0 connector and features driverless operation for Windows and MacOS, as well as all Bluesound Dirac Live Ready products. Suggested retail price of the Kit is USD 39/GBP 39/EUR 45/CAD 59 and it can be purchased from authorized Bluesound dealers globally, or from Bluesound.com.

Dirac offers three different licenses for Live: (1) Dirac Live Limited, which corrects audio below 500 Hz (USD 159); (2) Dirac Live Full, which corrects the full frequency range (USD 249); and (3) an upgrade license from Limited to Full (USD 99). Licenses are device-specific and are available from Dirac.com.

Rikard Hellerfelt, Dirac’s VP Consumer and eCommerce says, “we know that Bluesound has very passionate customers who love great sound, and we are pleased to be able to introduce Dirac Live to a new device category—streamers—for the very first time. This allows music lovers to elevate their existing audio setups— even those without built-in Dirac Live—by simply adding a Bluesound streamer.”

KLEM is the First AI Act Signed by Irish Record Label

In a landmark music industry moment, Irish independent record label Strange Brew are pleased to  announce that today they become the first Irish based independent record label to sign an AI act, adding  the anonymous act KLEM KolecUv to their roster.

KLEM have also been signed to UK independent record label Alcopop!, and received an undisclosed advance  as part of their deal with both labels. They released their first single ‘Cyberstalkin’ Queen’ independently in  June this year as a free download on Soundcloud where it has garnered some industry aIenJon by clocking  up more than 1 million streams.

Their next single ‘Oppenhaimer’, featuring vocalist Day-V, will be released on Friday 20th September 2024  on all good digital plaUorms plus a limited physical NFT release through Strange Brew.

KLEM KolecJv is a not-for-profit project, and the group have revealed that any profits generated from their  acJons will be donated to Orquesta Juvenil del Sodre Uruguay. The enigmaJc crew have yet to clarify  exactly why profits will be donated to a South American youth orchestra, but all will be revealed in good  Jme.

Whilst they may have a similar approach to some of the AI acts that have preceded them—using varying  degrees of ArJficial Intelligence in the creaJon and producJon process—where KLEM are unique is that  their reason for existence is not to profit from or promote the use of AI tools but, through direct  experience, explore and document the impact of AI on music and art.

The group have been booked for a public appearance at Output Music Conference in Belfast on  November 12th 2024. Here they will reveal their idenUty, describe their process, discuss why they exist,  and display how their observaUons impact music, art, and society.

By remaining anonymous KLEM have circumnavigated the constraints of image and idenJty poliJcs, raising  each release above customary commodificaJon.

CommenJng on their work, the KolecJv say: “Music, stories and art have been the threads that have  bound the fabric of society together since Ume immemorial. Now as we witness the weE and warp of  that fabric change irrevocably, as counterfeit threads are shot through the weave, we observe, we learn,  we create, and now we choose to act. We are KLEM.”

The level of mysJque around the KolecJv is part of their intrigue; KLEM can be contacted through their  social media channels, but none of their label reps have managed to speak to them directly yet. “We’ve  been given a landline number, but we’ve been told that the phone ringer has been disconnected. Someone

from KLEM answers the phone at the same Jme every day, but we don’t know what Jme that is, and we  haven’t called at the right Jme yet. We hope to guess right before the single drops in September.”

Strange Brew label manager, Gugai, says of the project: “We’re thrilled and a li_le scared to welcome our  first AI act to the label. It’s a bold step into the future, but with KLEM KolecUv that step is an ethical one  that promises to have a posiUve impact on the music industry in Ireland and beyond. We can’t ignore AI  music, it’s here, it’s not going away, and it’s changing music as we’ve known it. KLEM are the first act to  address this head on, and we’re excited to partner them in that. We all want to ensure that auto-tune  doesn’t develop into an autocracy.”

When it comes to AI music elsewhere in the music industry, the genie is already well and truly out of the  boIle. Kizuna AI is a Japanese virtual Youtuber and performer who built up 4 million followers on the  channel ader debuJng in 2016. Kizuna has performed to both virtual and live audiences, taking a hiatus in  2022.

Capitol Records in the US signed AI rapper FN Meka in 2022. The robot rapper was dropped by the label less  than two weeks ader releasing their first single. A significant backlash to racial slurs in the digital  performer’s lyrics prompted Capitol to sever Jes with the act and publish an apology.

In Autumn 2023 Warner Music Central Europe signed Noonoouri, a virtual influencer and performer.  Noonoouri counts Kim Kardashian among her fans, and has worked on campaigns with Dior, Versace and  Vogue.

AlphaTheta releases in-depth documentary on the evolution of Ibiza’s club scene

AlphaTheta announces the release of “The Evolution of Ibiza,” a new feature-length documentary exploring the evolution of the island’s club scene.

Research conducted by AlphaTheta found that more than 77%* of club-goers see Ibiza as a must-visit destination for clubbers, and over 63%* agree that nowhere else on Earth compares to the unique dance music culture found on the island. But how did Ibiza transform from a 60s hippy hangout to the world’s no. 1 party zone? And with prices higher than ever – for everything from flights, hotels, club tickets, and drinks, to living costs for the island’s workers – can Ibiza stay true to its roots and offer a sustainable scene that’s open to all? Or is the White Isle on course to become a luxury playground for only the richest party people?

Among different topics in “The Evolution of Ibiza,” producer/directors Dan Tait and Laurence Koe team up to explore the impact of commercialization on this world-famous island. Insight comes from club promoters, locals, government officials, and DJs who’ve seen Ibiza evolve over several decades – including Carl Cox and Norman Cook – as well as artists such as Franky Wah and Chloe Caillet, who won’t remember the earliest clubs but are now driving the scene forward.

2022 and 2023 both saw extended summer seasons in Ibiza, when clubs, venues, and hotels sought to recoup the cost of Covid. And over 80%* of respondents to AlphaTheta’s survey said that if money was no object, they would consider visiting Ibiza for a holiday in the future. The question is: how long can it last? “The Evolution of Ibiza” seeks the answers.

“The Evolution of Ibiza” is free to watch on the AlphaTheta / Pioneer DJ Global YouTube channel:

*Statistics are taken from an independent survey of 1,000 regular club-goers aged over 18, commissioned by AlphaTheta and conducted by Censuswide in June 2024.

Pioneer DJ launches ‘deckades’ a limited-edition fanzine to mark 30 years of the first-ever CDJ

Pioneer DJ, an AlphaTheta brand, the world’s leading brand for professional DJ equipment, launches its very own, limited-edition fanzine – named ‘deckades’ – to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first-ever CDJ. Released in 1994, the world’s first CDJ – the CDJ-500 – went onto influence DJ and club culture as we know it, and led to the creation of Pioneer DJ.

Available both digitally and in print, the ‘zine takes fans through iconic moments from the last 30 years of the CDJ. Showcasing the CDJ’s unique history and evolution, ‘deckades’ takes fans back to the beginning when the CDJ-500 was born and why it was created, while exploring how the world’s best DJs honed their craft transitioning from vinyl to CDJs – and how this impacted club culture. Now available, fans will be able to visit blog.pioneerdj.com to claim a free print copy and start enjoying Pioneer DJ’s musical legacy since 1994 or the digital version can be read here.

Split into three decades: 1994-2004, 2004-2014 and 2014-2024, the 42-page ‘zine’ explores the history and evolution of the CDJ recalling how it was born – all from the advancement in technology within in-car audio. It was the anti-skip technology which created the possibility to create a new device that allowed for new ways to rock a party and the ability to mix with CDs – which was radical in itself. This saw the club experience evolve whereby instead of mixing with vinyl in loud and vibrating clubs that made it difficult with a moving needle, now mixing and playing records became more accessible and easier. This new device allowed for scratching, making loops on the fly, executing drum rolls with the Cue button, speed tracks up or slow them down – this was a revelation for the modern DJ and influenced how DJing would evolve. It led to the birth of digital DJing.

‘deckades’ opens with a visual timeline of the CDJ, from the CDJ-500 through to the latest model – the CDJ-3000, spanning 23 models over 30 years. It features exclusive and never-released interviews with world-leading DJs such as Fatboy Slim, Fabio from Fabio & Grooverider, Anna Tur, Kikelomo and TSHA. Each recalls their introduction of the CDJ, how it was initially received, how it influenced their DJing style and what it meant for DJing, with anecdotal stories remembered. For example, Fatboy Slim recalls the first time he came across CDJs in a set: “The turning point was a night where I was playing on a lorry at Carnival in Salvador, Brazil for five hours back to back with David Guetta. He was whupping my ass because his CDJs were louder and didn’t jump every time we went over a pothole…He absolutely blew me off stage that night and it hurt!”

While jungle and Drum ‘n’ Bass innovator, Fabio (from Fabio & Grooverider) tells how the CDJ changed the game for him and a whole generation, “…they’ve advanced so much even in the past five, six years. It’s incredible what you can do now. Now you can be a showman. And you couldn’t do that before, because you really had to concentrate on vinyl. Now, you know what you’re doing, you got all your cue points, everything organised and ready to go—that’s a revelation, basically.”

As well as exclusive DJ interviews, ‘deckades’ takes a deep dive into how the technology evolved, making Pioneer’s CDJs the best in the business and as Fabio says the ‘standard procedure’ for DJs to use. Gearheads can also enjoy new interviews from the designers and engineers behind the CDJs. Within the ‘zine, ‘meet the maker’ sections are integrated throughout which includes a rare interview with the creator of the CDJ-500 – Kou Atsumi. Early concept designs and drawings are featured which provides a nostalgic look at the world’s first-ever CDJ. Other interviews include Naoto Takase and Yoshinori Kataoka – the creative force behind the CDJ-2000 and CDJ-3000.

As the ‘zine expands into the 2004-2014 decade, stories are remembered around how digital technology was fundamentally changing the way people DJ’d. The ability to DJ off a USB stick was introduced in 2007 with the CDJ-400 which brought about a progressive change. Fabio talks about a ‘sliding doors’ moment where he was stunned to see Pete Tong turn up to a club in Brazil he was DJing at with nothing but headphones and a USB stick, which didn’t seem real to him. ‘deckades’ then recounts in the last ten years how, evolving digital technology, and how DJing evolved from the clubs to the bedroom, creating new opportunities for more people to get into DJing and the sense of community it creates.

Mark Grotefeld, AlphaTheta EMEA General Manager, said: “It’s always been part of our mission to bring innovative music experiences through our products and this won’t change with our AlphaTheta and Pioneer DJ brands. The fanzine charts the evolution of such an important instrument which was a game changer for DJing and club culture. The CDJs have become a mainstay in clubs all over the world and the planet’s best DJs have been influenced by this technology. I expect DJ technology to continue evolving down an AI-software-driven path as well as VR and AR experiences becoming more widely available. But we’ll remain focused on ensuring it empowers DJs to deliver the human experiences we’ll always crave.”

The brand new fanzine is now available for free, with only 1,000 print copies up for grabs or alternatively, the digital version can be enjoyed here. To find out more on claiming a print copy, head to blog.pioneerdj.com or register here.

RoEx Automix Introduces New Product Feature to Enhance the Live Music Recording Experience

RoEx are proud to announce a significant development addressing the unique challenges of live music mixing. RoEx’s newly launched product, Automix, an AI-assisted audio mixing and mastering tool, has just taken its next step in enhancing the processes of live performance recordings within the creative community. Enabled by a £50,000 Innovate UK grant, this advancement transitions from the controlled studio environment, to the vibrant unpredictability of live performances, marking a game-changing moment for creators and innovators in the music industry.

The authenticity and spontaneous energy of live music often brings challenges such as inconsistent acoustics, ambient noise, and microphone bleed. These issues traditionally require hours of meticulous manual editing, hindering the production of resonant live recordings.

RoEx’s latest feature, powered by enhanced AI technology, tackles these complexities head on. Automix refines audio whilst maintaining the distinct feel of live performances, offering a new approach to how live music is mixed and enjoyed.

This development came from thorough research involving machine learning and audio signal processing techniques. Based on user feedback, RoEx’s team adjusted algorithms to improve audio quality, while keeping the genuine momentum of live performances.

The new feature will equip artists and producers with the ability to transform their archived live recordings into enhanced, clear-sounding tracks. This not only enables them to save time and studio fees, but also breathes new life into their live recordings.”

David Ronan, RoEx CEO comments: “We are so excited to launch the first AI multitrack studio mixing software capable of mixing live music, and we can’t wait to see how our community will resonate with it. We remain committed to ongoing innovation, driven by user feedback and experiences. That’s why we developed this new feature – to provide our community with a tool that can quickly enhance audio quality while preserving the authenticity and energy of their live performances.”

Automix, RoEx’s new feature, once again underscores their innovative approach. By streamlining the mixing and mastering of live performance recordings, it democratises the world of music creation, fostering talent growth and broadening opportunities.
