AlphaTheta releases in-depth documentary on the evolution of Ibiza’s club scene

AlphaTheta announces the release of “The Evolution of Ibiza,” a new feature-length documentary exploring the evolution of the island’s club scene.

Research conducted by AlphaTheta found that more than 77%* of club-goers see Ibiza as a must-visit destination for clubbers, and over 63%* agree that nowhere else on Earth compares to the unique dance music culture found on the island. But how did Ibiza transform from a 60s hippy hangout to the world’s no. 1 party zone? And with prices higher than ever – for everything from flights, hotels, club tickets, and drinks, to living costs for the island’s workers – can Ibiza stay true to its roots and offer a sustainable scene that’s open to all? Or is the White Isle on course to become a luxury playground for only the richest party people?

Among different topics in “The Evolution of Ibiza,” producer/directors Dan Tait and Laurence Koe team up to explore the impact of commercialization on this world-famous island. Insight comes from club promoters, locals, government officials, and DJs who’ve seen Ibiza evolve over several decades – including Carl Cox and Norman Cook – as well as artists such as Franky Wah and Chloe Caillet, who won’t remember the earliest clubs but are now driving the scene forward.

2022 and 2023 both saw extended summer seasons in Ibiza, when clubs, venues, and hotels sought to recoup the cost of Covid. And over 80%* of respondents to AlphaTheta’s survey said that if money was no object, they would consider visiting Ibiza for a holiday in the future. The question is: how long can it last? “The Evolution of Ibiza” seeks the answers.

“The Evolution of Ibiza” is free to watch on the AlphaTheta / Pioneer DJ Global YouTube channel:

35% of gamers in Ireland say that online gaming is good for their mental health

Pure Telecom, the Irish high-speed broadband company, today announces the results of a survey, which found that 35% of gamers in Ireland believe that online gaming benefits their mental health by providing an outlet for stress relief. The research also found that male gamers are spending almost an hour more on their hobby per day than female gamers.

The survey of 1,006 adults in Ireland was conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Pure Telecom as part of its Connected Lives study. The survey explored the proliferation of online gaming in Ireland and its impact on people’s lives, spending and mental health. It found that 50% of Irish adults identify as online gamers – in other words, those who play video games that require an internet connection. This rises to 75% for those aged 18 to 24.

The survey revealed that the average gamer in Ireland spends €180.30 per year on online gaming. That includes money spent on new games, add-ons, in-game purchases and consoles. Again, this increases significantly for 18- to 24-year-olds, who spend an average of €291.50 per year. The research found that male gamers are also more likely to dig deep to fund their online gaming hobby than female gamers are, spending €260 versus €132.50 per year.

This theme continues with regard to the amount of time being spent on online gaming. On the average day, male gamers spend two hours and 20 minutes playing online games, compared to one hour 26 minutes for female gamers. The average among the entire online gaming community is one hour and 47 minutes per day – a stark increase from the average one hour 10 minutes per day in Pure Telecom’s 2022 survey findings.

Pure Telecom’s research also provided insights into why online gaming has such widespread appeal – and why adults are dedicating significant proportions of their days to it. In addition to the perceived mental health benefits, the survey found that 21% of gamers enjoy the social aspect of online gaming, while 19% believe it enhances their problem-solving skills. Despite these merits, gamers who say online gaming is their main hobby are in the minority, with just 16% saying this is the case.

Paul Connell, CEO, Pure Telecom, said: “The findings from our research demonstrate the significant and multifaceted impact that online gaming is having on our society. Online gaming is not only an outlet for entertainment, but also provides a space for people to build connections, have a chat with other gamers and look after their mental wellbeing. These findings are consistent with recent research* which shows that gamers can perform better and faster at cognitive challenges.

“Many of the most popular video games being played today rely on an internet connection. We see the effects of this in Pure Telecom, with download volumes spiking on days when there are big gaming releases. Knowing the growing popularity of online gaming, we are dedicated to providing the fastest broadband speeds available in Ireland so our customers can enjoy the multitude of benefits they experience from online gaming – uninterrupted.”

Tech Review – QCY MeoBuds Pro earbuds

The QCY MeloBuds Pro are the latest earbuds on offer from the company and the recently reviewed headphones called the H3 have been a great start to their new line-up of products and an excellent pair of headphones.

With these earbuds coming in at around 50 euro there is little to complain about here and they have a really good app to go with them that put more expensive models to shame and that say quite a lot here.

The style and fit is like most earbuds here, they sit well in the ears and have a secure fit but be sure to check out the tips for the best seal which yields the best results as I always say.

One stand out feature is the ANC on the MeloBuds Pro at the price they come in for as they have a wide frequency range and offer up to 46db on ANC and 6 yes 6 transparency modes built in so there is options for all here.

There is also 6 mics the most we see these days is two or four but 6 now being the standard and again at the price it is unheard of the features present in these earbuds.

There is dual device connectivity on board so if like me and you use two devices all day this is perfect and seamless and can be controlled via the app which you can see more of below and in the video review where we take a tour of the said app which is great and loaded with features including a decent battery life at around 34 hrs at 75% volume and with a ten minute charge you can get up to 1hr playtime. This will vary per user and EQ/Volume settings as always.

The sound is also where it is at here with the QCY MeloBuds Pro and it is superb for the price and with their companion app there is not much left to say but these are worth every single penny you spend which is little and what is on offer from more well established brands.

Highs lows and mids all great super ANC and transparency modes with a notable difference on switching unlike some others out there, great treble and bass high volume and you can also customise to your requirements with spatial sound.

For the gamers yes they are also covered here with up to 80ms latency when game mode is activated and their advanced spatial audio algorithm enhances the soundstage, offering a 360° Stereo Sound experience. Equipped with a 12mm dynamic driver units if it is music movies or gaming you are center stage.

Vhi celebrates milestone 50,000 free self-service health checks

Vhi today released new health and wellbeing insights generated from 50,000 free self-service health checks over a two-year period.

The on-the-spot health assessment stations provided at workplaces and other sites across the country in partnership with Sisu Health measure blood pressure, body mass index, and perceived stress, as well as screening for diabetes and cardiovascular risks. Participating users can subsequently benefit from lifestyle advice on a range of health issues through an integrated portal, with signposting provided to GPs in cases of identified health risks.

Since the re-introduction of the Vhi health checks scheme in September 2022, over 40,000 members of Vhi corporate health schemes have actively monitored their health and wellbeing using the mobile self-service health stations which visited 540 workplace locations and sites nationwide.

Since the introduction of the health check stations that more than 9,000 people were recommended to contact their GP following a health assessment. These referrals encourage early intervention in cases of health risk and help to reduce the likelihood of developing chronic illness. More than half of those who used the health stations (21,000) had not received a blood pressure check in the past 12 months prior to screening, with 14.3% of those assessed recording high blood pressure.

Other insights include:

  • 16% of all participants recorded high blood pressure, with 49% of all men measuring ‘at risk’ to high.
  • 2002 Health checks triggered a ‘GP call to action’ for high blood pressure (140/90) and or high BMI (35+).
  • 16% of participants indicated that they are a smoker, a little under the 18% national average as published by the HSE.

Professor Charlie Foster, Head of Population Health, Vhi said: Investing in the health and wellbeing of employees is crucial in building happier and healthier workplaces. That’s why we’re delighted to reach this major milestone in the use of our health check services. Encouraging team employees and members to actively monitor and look after their health through regular checks can drastically reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease. Benefits are also seen by employers who see happier, healthier and stronger employees alongside real costs savings in reductions in the impacts of smoking and poor mental health.

“By providing quick and easy access to health checks in workplaces and other sites around the country, we’re empowering members to identify and address health risks early on and help them to achieve better health outcomes. This is one of the many ways in which Vhi is driving innovation in how healthcare is delivered and helping our members live longer, stronger and happier lives.”

Jez Styles, Director of Growth, SisU Health said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone through our partnership with Vhi. Given the increasing burden of chronic cardiovascular and metabolic health conditions on global healthcare systems it is important that new technology should be accessible, convenient and deployed strategically. SiSU believe that people should be able to access health checks in places where they live their lives, with workplaces presenting a prime opportunity for Vhi’s members to identify developing or undiagnosed conditions.”

Vhi provides an extensive range of corporate health and wellness services to support healthier and more productive workforces. Corporate health programmes can be tailor designed to ensure the evolving needs of employees are met and include access to mental health supports and holistic wellness programmes focusing on resilience, sleep, nutrition and movement.

Initial Hygiene Launches Luna Dry a Futuristic Plug & Play Hand Dryer

Initial Hygiene, one of Ireland’s leading providers of washroom hygiene, vending, and floor mat solutions, has officially launched its latest innovation, the Plug & Play® Luna Dry hand dryer in the Irish market. This cutting-edge hand drying solution is set to revolutionise washrooms across Ireland with its ease of installation, efficiency, and durability.

The Luna Dry’s HEPA Clean Air intelligent filtration system removes at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria, and airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. Initial Hygiene’s Luna Dry hand dryer represents a significant leap forward in washroom technology, combining advanced features to ensure high standards of hygiene and environmental sustainability.

The Terra 4 Docking Station enables replacement or upgrade of the hand dryer within seconds, and eliminates the need for an electrician once the docking station has been installed.

A study* conducted by Initial Washroom Hygiene in the United Kingdom highlighted that inefficient hand dryers could be costing UK businesses over £200 million per year in wasted energy and contributing to an extra 133 million kilograms of carbon emissions annually. The study, which analysed 689 hand dryers, found replacing outdated models with modern, low-energy hand dryers like the Luna Dry could significantly reduce running costs and emissions.

Sian Walkling, Head of Marketing, Initial Hygiene, says: “Hand dryers have a lifespan of 5-7 years, but they are an item which is typically out of sight and out of mind.  As long as they are working then very often, they will be left on walls for 10 or 15+ years.

“Not replacing outdated hand dryers may appear to make good business sense, but is it?  Modern hand dryers have evolved to be more efficient at drying hands quickly, as well as being low energy and low noise.

“At Initial Hygiene, we are committed to innovation and sustainability. The Luna Dry hand dryer offers superior performance and aligns with our mission to provide environmentally responsible washroom solutions, with annual running cost of circa €22**. We are proud to introduce this product to the Irish market and support our customers in enhancing their washroom hygiene standards.”

The Luna Dry model includes ION PURE antimicrobial metal ions, providing an added layer of protection against bacteria, mould, and viruses. This innovative feature prevents the build-up of offensive odours and helps to ensure a hygienic environment. The antimicrobial metal ions are incorporated into the hand dryer shell during manufacturing, creating a germ-resistant finish that releases ions gradually in the presence of moisture.

Tech Review – QCY H3 Wireless Noise Cancelling headphones

The QCY H3 Wireless Noise Cancelling headphones are an affordable pair of headphones that have been a delight to use the last while and offer plenty for those who want something new, the brand name might not be familiar with everyone but it is one to check out.

The presentation is a standard affair here kept simple like the headphones themselves which are light, clean and kept simple. They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time and come with a gaming mode so for those who listen to music and game will be fine.

The controls are all on one side here too and kept simple with a dedicated ANC button and all other features present and the ANC is quite good here considering the price point.

ANC is something many like to take on board when buying new headphones and for new it was quite good here in comparison to other more expensive headphones tested and this for me is a good selling point and once this is activated you can forget about anything going on outside.

There is multipoint connection and good call quality which is most helpful these days and if you are like me and work on a laptop and phone it is ideal and with a good battery life of up to 60 hours depending on your settings again good solid points here.

Not only this there is other features to look at such as adaptive mode transparency mode you can also adjust to indoor noisy commuting anti-wind noise and commuting and not only that those modes are adjustable.

The sound is also great here and these are loud with 40mm drivers which is how I like it no lag or tinny sound on testing and generally hit the notes well be it on movies music and even gaming there is also sound channel balance built in, highs lows and mids good and direction and with access to their app which is excellent gives delivery of a real solid pair of headphones and should be check out.

Dev Kit Leak Sheds Light on Nintendo’s Plans for Switch 2

As the pioneer of gaming innovation, Nintendo is poised to take another quantum leap in the world of gaming consoles. Recent leaks hint at the imminent arrival of its next-gen gaming hybrid, the Nintendo Switch 2. This time, the gaming giant seems to be shaking things up a bit with some surprising spec choices. In this article, I’ll delve into the details of what this new gaming hybrid might bring and why it’s generating such a buzz. Read on!

Leaked Nintendo Switch 2 Dev Kit Details

Source and Credibility of the Leak

Recently, a new leak surfaced from a well-known gaming insider, “Im A Hero Too”. They’ve previously been active on the gaming platform ResetEra. After getting banned there, they turned to Reddit, revealing some interesting information. Although both of their accounts have been disabled now, the accuracy of their past leaks adds credibility to their claims. The previous information dump about Persona 3 Reload and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been fairly on-point.

Overview of the Leak Specifications

According to the latest leak, Nintendo’s partner studios have been tinkering with Switch 2 development kits for a while. The next-gen gaming console is backwards compatible, accommodating at least some older games. It also features a new cartridge system along with a built-in camera. The leak also hints at the arrival of Final Fantasy 7 on Switch 2, promising a visual performance quality comparable to a PS5.

Leaks Breakdown: Predictions & Speculations

I’ll let my imagination run wild with the leaked information below:

1. Potential Late Summer 2024 Release

While concrete details about the release of the Switch 2 have been scarce, leaked information indicates that Nintendo’s partners, like Square Enix, have been actively testing the dev kits. Not to forget, Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo’s president, revealed last year during the annual financial report release that there were no plans for new hardware until the fiscal year (ending March 2024). These developments suggest a late summer release for the Switch 2 might not be far off.

2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake: A Possible Launch Title?

One intriguing tidbit revolves around Final Fantasy 7 remake. The leak implies that the Switch 2’s hardware might be robust enough to run the game as smoothly as the PlayStation 5. Reportedly, porting the game to Switch 2 dev kits “took no time”. Does that mean Switch 2 will come with Final Fantasy 7 Remake as a launch title? Can it really be that powerful?

Personally, I’ve confidence in Nintendo. Running games like FF7R could be within Switch 2’s reach, especially with specs that make it better than PS4 Pro Docked version and PS4 Handheld, boasting architecturally superior hardware and an Nvidia machine with DLSS 3.1.

3. A built-in Camera feature

The revelation of a built-in camera feature doesn’t surprise me, given Nintendo’s history with camera technology from the DSi to the 3DS. What intrigues me more is whether this feature will be geared towards AR, VR or a specific video game. This new nugget of information aligns perfectly with an earlier rumor suggesting that Nintendo intends to go big on VR for Switch 2.

4. Backward Compatibility

Regarding backwards compatibility, the leaked information indicating compatibility tests on a few games is promising. Earlier, other leakers like NateTheHate have been giving some pessimistic updates, but I don’t see why backwards compatibility is even a discussion point. Nintendo has had great success bringing older N64 to Switch, and they can easily do the same for newer platforms. If the Switch 2 lacks backwards compatibility, it would genuinely shock me.

5. A New Type of Cartridge

The mention of a new type of cartridge for physical games on the Switch 2 is also intriguing. I wonder if Nintendo is taking inspiration from the 3DS cartridges. Moreover, considering the current gaming demands, increasing the onboard storage beyond the original Switch’s 32GB seems like an obvious step forward. My only question is: Can they make 512GB cartridges?

6. Usable Internet Browser

Switch users have been asking for this for a long, long time. Although there’s a way to access a hidden browser, it’s rather a nuisance than a feature, plus it doesn’t have a full-blown feature set like any proper web browser. This would also open up a new gaming venue for players looking to play casual table games on websites that are online casinos or similar niches. Having the flexibility of just starting a web-based game and getting it up and running in a matter of seconds is not to be neglected, be it you just want to have a quick round of poker or a chess match to practice your Réti opening for gamers, additional options are always a welcomed bonus.

Can Nintendo Switch 2 Challenge Competition?

Switch 2 has three powerful competitors – PS5, Xbox S, and Xbox X. However, all leaks and rumors suggest that Nintendo’s upcoming gaming console could outshine its counterparts. It has one ace up its sleeves – Nvidia’s DLSS support. It’s the latest upscaling technique that uses AI to improve the performance of a game. Nintendo Switch 2 will, in fact, boast the latest DLSS 3.1, a technology currently exclusive only to RTX graphics cards.

Fingers Crossed for More Concrete Details

As I eagerly dissect these leaks every now and then, I can’t help but feel a mix of hope and curiosity. Hope for the innovative leaps Nintendo might take and curiosity about the concrete details that will emerge eventually, settling these speculations into facts. Whatever the future holds, it’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo enthusiast right now. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for what wonders Nintendo might unveil. The game is certainly on!
