Approaching Debt Collectors Professionally

Few financial situations create as much stress as dealing with debt collectors. The phone calls, letters, and emails can feel overwhelming, but the way you respond can shape the outcome more than you think. Some people end up turning to bankruptcy debt relief when the situation grows too difficult to manage, but for many, the first step is simply learning how to engage with collectors in a professional and effective way. That doesn’t mean giving in to pressure or agreeing to terms that harm you. It means approaching the situation with clarity, composure, and confidence.

Professional communication with debt collectors allows you to stay in control of the process. It helps you protect your rights, reduce stress, and open the door to practical solutions. While it may feel intimidating, there are ways to handle these conversations that keep your dignity intact while moving closer to resolution.

Understanding the Role of Debt Collectors

Debt collectors are not personal enemies. Their role is to recover money owed to creditors, and they operate within laws that are meant to regulate their behavior. Recognizing that collectors are following a job rather than targeting you personally can shift the tone of the conversation. When you keep this perspective, you are less likely to react defensively or emotionally. Instead, you can focus on facts and maintain a professional attitude.

Know Your Rights Before You Speak

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act outlines specific rules about what collectors can and cannot do. They cannot harass you, call at unreasonable hours, or misrepresent the debt. Knowing these rights gives you confidence and sets boundaries for your interactions. Before speaking with any collector, take time to review these protections. When you understand the limits of what they can ask for, you enter the conversation with authority and calmness. Knowledge is your first layer of professionalism.

Clarity Is Your Best Tool

When debt collectors reach out, it can be tempting to avoid the conversation altogether. But ignoring them rarely helps. A professional approach starts with asking for details in writing. Request a validation notice that outlines the amount owed, the original creditor, and your rights to dispute the debt. This ensures accuracy and gives you a clear picture of the situation. Responding with clarity shows that you are taking the matter seriously without rushing into commitments you might regret.

Keeping Emotions in Check

It’s natural to feel frustration, embarrassment, or even anger when speaking with a debt collector. But letting those emotions guide the conversation usually makes things worse. Professionalism means keeping your composure, no matter how the discussion unfolds. Take a deep breath before responding and remind yourself that your goal is resolution, not conflict. By staying calm, you set the tone and keep the conversation from spiraling out of control.

Negotiation as a Skill

Approaching debt collectors professionally also means understanding that negotiation is part of the process. Collectors often have flexibility, especially if you can demonstrate a willingness to work with them. You might negotiate a lower payoff amount, a payment plan, or reduced interest. Treat the negotiation like any other professional discussion: respectful, clear, and focused on a mutually beneficial solution. Taking notes during the conversation and requesting agreements in writing helps protect you and ensures both sides are on the same page.

Documentation Protects You

Every professional interaction leaves a paper trail, and debt conversations should be no different. Keep a record of all calls, letters, and agreements. Write down the names of people you speak with, the date, and the details of the discussion. If something is promised, ask for it in writing. Documentation not only gives you peace of mind but also serves as protection in case there are disputes later. It demonstrates that you approached the situation responsibly and seriously.

Respect Goes Both Ways

One of the overlooked aspects of professionalism is the role of respect. While collectors are required to treat you with fairness, showing them respect in return can go a long way. A calm, polite tone often results in better communication than confrontation. Respect doesn’t mean agreeing with everything they say—it means acknowledging their role while standing firm in your own boundaries. When both sides treat each other with respect, solutions are easier to find.

When to Seek Additional Help

Sometimes, even with professionalism, the situation may be too complex or stressful to manage alone. In those cases, reaching out to a financial counselor or legal advisor can provide valuable guidance. Professionals can review your debt, explain your options, and even step in to communicate on your behalf if needed. Seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a smart move when you need support to stay on track.

Turning a Hard Situation Into Growth

Dealing with debt collectors can feel like one of the hardest parts of financial struggle. But when you approach it with professionalism, it becomes an opportunity to practice resilience, negotiation, and self-advocacy. Instead of letting fear control the process, you are choosing to face it with maturity and purpose. That choice can reduce stress, improve outcomes, and even change the way you view financial challenges in the future.

Approaching debt collectors professionally isn’t about giving them power—it’s about claiming your own. With clear communication, respect, and knowledge of your rights, you create a path toward resolution that protects your dignity and supports your long-term financial health.

Google Pixel Watch 4 45mm Smartwatch Review

The Google Pixel Watch 4 is arguably the most significant update yet in the Pixel wearable line and coming from the Pixel Watch 3 45 mm I was looking forward to testing this one out and seeing how much it has improved there is some sublte differences and to look at both head on you might find it hard to notice..

The most noticeable improvement is the Actua 360 display, which is now 10% larger with noticeably slimmer bezels and a dazzling 3,000 nits of peak brightness, making it easy to read even in direct sunlight. Performance is snappy thanks to the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip, but the real software star is the deeply integrated Gemini AI, which can be instantly activated with a simple “Raise to Talk” wrist gesture—a genuine game-changer for on-the-go queries and commands. IN short the watch can replace your phone with Gemini AI for anyhting and with that said the watch for me keeps me off my phone and now it helps even more which is a good thing in my book but I still love my Pixel 10 pro.

Crucially, the Watch 4 substantially boosts battery life (up to 40 hours on the 45mm model) and introduces super-fast charging, hitting 50% battery in just 15 minutes via a redesigned, convenient side-charging dock. For the health-conscious, dual-frequency GPS provides exceptional outdoor tracking accuracy. For me I would get a day and a half due to how much I have going to the watch but the fast charging helps and I do not wear a watch to bed however for those that do you will notice the faster charging and the new doc is excellent and welcome.

The Pixel Watch 4 also has fitness in mind with Fitbit inlcuded at a cost after your sub runs out and is now integrated into the Watch app I do take note of my fitness but no a fully fledged fitness freak but there is more than enough here for the fitness and health gurus especially with all the safety and medical alerts now on board.

The Pixel Watch app itself is simple to use and works well letting you customize to your requirements and it is a simple UI to use and navigate making it a comfortable experience all round you can see the screenshots below for exactly what you get and also in the video review.

Overall I am a fan of the watch as I was last years and the display really stands out, notifcations are clear and so are calls and the speaker is also better this time round letting you hear what is being said or for taking calls it is at the higher end with the price point but if like me and have a Google Ecosystem it all just works well and is seamless and if you have and Google cameras at home it is even better and notifications are rich and as you would find on your Pixel phone.

DIY cameras vs professional CCTV installation: The most common mistakes people only notice after a break-in.

In an era where home security is more accessible than ever before, many homeowners are turning to DIY camera systems as an affordable and quick way to protect their property. With online tutorials and affordable kits readily available, it can be tempting to forgo professional installation and handle the setup yourself. However, the harsh reality often only sets in after a security breach, when footage reveals critical flaws that could have been avoided. This article explores the most common pitfalls of DIY cameras compared to professional CCTV installation and offers advice to help consumers make informed decisions. We’ll delve into issues such as improper camera angles, night-time glare from headlights, lack of backup power and incessant false motion alerts — mistakes that leave many regretting their choices after an incident occurs.

The appeal of DIY cameras lies in their simplicity and affordability. Brands such as Ring, Nest and Arlo offer straightforward installation, wireless options, app integration and cloud storage. For under £150, you can have a basic setup to monitor your front door or backyard. However, as security experts often point out, these systems are designed for convenience rather than comprehensive protection. Professional CCTV installation, on the other hand, involves certified technicians assessing your property’s unique vulnerabilities and providing tailored planning. This approach ensures coverage that DIY kits rarely achieve, transforming a reactive gadget into a proactive defence.

Common mistakes in DIY camera setups

Wrong camera angle: Missing crucial details.

One of the most common mistakes when setting up DIY cameras is choosing the wrong angle, which often results in footage that cannot identify faces or details. Homeowners typically mount cameras too high or too low, pointing them towards the ground or sky instead of towards key entry points. For example, a downward-facing camera might capture a burglar’s feet but miss their face entirely. This issue stems from a lack of understanding of field of view (FOV) and focal lengths. DIY kits often have fixed lenses that cannot be adjusted for different distances, resulting in distorted or incomplete images.

Consider the following real-world scenario: a family installs a DIY camera above their garage door, assuming that it provides adequate coverage of the driveway. During a break-in, however, the intruder approaches from the side and the camera only records a shadowy figure, making it impossible to identify them. When the police arrive, the footage is useless for identification purposes. Professional CCTV installation can address this issue by using adjustable mounts and lenses optimised for specific angles. Technicians calculate the optimal height — usually 8–10 feet — to capture faces while deterring tampering. They also use wide-angle or varifocal lenses to cover blind spots and ensure that every frame is of an evidential standard.

Headlight glare at night: Blinding the Lens

In addition to angles, lighting is crucial for effective camera use, and headlight glare at night is a common issue for DIY setups. Many budget cameras lack infrared (IR) cut filters or adequate low-light sensors, which can cause overexposure when car headlights or streetlights hit the lens. This results in footage that is washed out, with details lost in a sea of white light. Users often only discover this flaw after reviewing post-break-in videos and realising that the glare rendered the system ineffective during the hours when intrusions are most likely to occur.

For example, imagine parking your car in the driveway at night. The headlights will beam directly into the camera, creating a blinding effect. Intruders could exploit this by timing their approach to coincide with vehicle traffic. Professional CCTV installation mitigates this glare by placing the cameras away from direct light sources and using anti-glare coatings or hooded enclosures. Furthermore, professionals integrate cameras with smart lighting systems that only activate when needed, thereby reducing reflective interference. A proper CCTV installation takes into account lighting, mounting height, reflective surfaces and storage — things that cheap DIY kits never explain.

No backup power: system failure during outages

Another critical oversight in DIY systems is the lack of a backup power supply, which leaves the setup vulnerable if the mains are cut. Most wireless cameras rely on household electricity or quickly draining batteries, particularly in cold weather. Burglars are aware of this weakness and often target power lines or breakers first, disabling the entire system in seconds. It is only after an incident that homeowners notice this fatal flaw, when they find their cameras offline during the crucial moments.

For example, a suburban homeowner might equip their home with battery-powered DIY cameras, assuming they are foolproof. However, if a thief cuts the power, the cameras, which do not have uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), shut down immediately. There are no alerts or recordings — just silence. In contrast, professional CCTV installations include redundant power sources such as solar backups, generators or hardwired batteries, which keep the system running for hours or even days. This ensures continuous operation, even during outages, providing a level of peace of mind that DIY options simply cannot match.

False motion alerts: Alert fatigue caused by spiders and rain.

Perhaps the most frustrating mistake is false motion alerts, with systems triggering 200 times a night due to spiders, rain, or wind. DIY cameras use basic passive infrared (PIR) sensors that detect any heat or movement, resulting in constant notifications from non-threats such as animals, insects, or weather changes. This ‘alert fatigue’ causes users to ignore genuine warnings, thus defeating the object of the system.

Imagine this: you’re repeatedly woken by your phone buzzing over a spider’s web fluttering in the breeze or raindrops on the lens. Over time, you tune out the alerts and fail to notice a real intruder. Post-break-in reviews often reveal that the system did detect the event, but it was obscured by hundreds of false positives. Professional CCTV installation uses advanced analytics, such as AI-driven motion detection, to distinguish between humans, vehicles and animals. Technicians calibrate sensitivity levels and use weatherproof housings to minimise environmental triggers, resulting in reliable alerts without the noise.

Additional considerations

While these mistakes highlight the limitations of DIY, it’s worth noting that not all professional installations are equal. It is crucial to choose a reputable installer — look for certifications from bodies such as the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) or similar organisations in your region. They conduct site surveys to identify potential issues, such as overgrown foliage obstructing views or weak Wi-Fi signals causing dropouts. DIY users often overlook such issues, which can lead to intermittent connectivity that fails during emergencies.

Cost comparison: Initial savings vs. long-term value

Cost is one of the main factors in the debate between DIY and professional services. While initial outlays for DIY might be $100–500, hidden expenses such as cloud storage subscriptions ($3–10 per month) can add up. Professional CCTV installation, starting at $1,000–$5,000, includes warranties, maintenance and integration with alarms or smart home systems. In the long term, this investment pays off in terms of reliability and deterrence: studies show that professionally installed systems reduce the risk of burglary by up to 300% compared to unmonitored DIY systems.

Privacy concerns: Data security risks

Privacy concerns also differ. If not secured properly, DIY cameras, which are often cloud-based, risk data breaches. For example, hackers have exploited weak passwords on devices such as Wyze cameras, leading to unauthorised access. In contrast, professionals prioritise encrypted local storage and GDPR-compliant practices to safeguard your footage.

Maintenance: Ensuring Longevity

Maintenance is another area where DIY falls short. Issues such as dust, weather or software glitches can degrade performance, and without regular checks, problems can go unnoticed until it is too late. Professional services provide ongoing support to ensure that lenses are clean, firmware is up to date, and components are functioning correctly.

Tips for avoiding common pitfalls

To avoid these pitfalls, start by conducting a self-audit: map your property’s entry points, assess the lighting conditions and consider any potential vulnerabilities in your power supply. If you prefer a DIY approach, choose wired over wireless options for greater stability and invest in quality accessories such as surge protectors. However, for comprehensive coverage, it is advisable to consult experts.

In summary, while DIY cameras provide an entry-level security solution, common mistakes such as incorrect positioning, glare, lack of backups and false alerts often only become apparent after a break-in, leaving homeowners vulnerable. Professional CCTV installation provides a robust alternative by blending technology with expertise to ensure true protection. Remember, security isn’t just about having cameras; it’s about having ones that work when it matters most.

A proper CCTV installation takes into account lighting, mounting height, reflective surfaces and storage — things that cheap DIY kits never explain. This highlights the importance of expertise over expediency.

Advanced features and real-world insights

Moving on to advanced features, professional systems often include 4K resolution, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) capabilities and integration with access control systems, which DIY solutions rarely support effectively. This scalability is crucial for businesses, but it also enhances deterrence for homes.

There are plenty of user testimonials: one Reddit user shared how their DIY setup failed due to glare, while a professionally installed system on a neighbour’s property captured clear evidence that led to an arrest. Forums such as HomeSecurityAdvice emphasise the importance of planning over plug-and-play solutions.

Environmental factors: Adapting to conditions

Environmental factors can exacerbate DIY issues. In rainy climates, for example, water ingress can cause short circuits, but professionals use IP67-rated enclosures. In urban areas, interference from neighbouring Wi-Fi networks can disrupt signals, whereas professional wired setups remain immune.

Legal implications: Evidentiary quality

Legally speaking, blurry DIY footage may not be admissible in court due to the lack of timestamps and chain-of-custody verification that professionals provide.

Budgeting and future-proofing.

Budget wisely and allocate funds for future-proofing. DIY might save money initially, but could end up costing more in replacements after failures.

Ultimately, it comes down to your risk tolerance. If you’re tech-savvy and monitoring low-risk areas, a DIY solution is sufficient. However, for high-stakes security, professional CCTV installation is essential.

A proper CCTV installation takes into account lighting, mounting height, reflective surfaces and storage — things that cheap DIY kits never explain. This highlights the educational gap in consumer products.

In conclusion, familiarise yourself with these common mistakes to avoid any regrets after a break-in. Whether you’re upgrading DIY or going pro, making informed choices will fortify your home.

How Technology Has Made Online Gaming More Personalised Than Ever

Online gaming has come a long way from its early days of basic interfaces and generic experiences. Today, technology enables a level of personalisation that was unimaginable a decade ago, making each gaming session unique to the player. Irish gamers, like others around the world, now expect platforms that adapt to their preferences, provide tailored content, and create a more engaging and immersive experience. This shift in expectation has reshaped the way developers design games and how players interact with them.

Adaptive Gameplay

One of the most noticeable ways technology has enhanced personalisation is through adaptive gameplay. Modern games can adjust difficulty levels based on a player’s skill, behaviour, and prior performance. Whether it’s a strategy game, a role-playing adventure, or an online casino title, the system can respond to how players interact with challenges, offering tailored experiences that remain engaging without being frustrating. This keeps players in a state of flow, where tasks feel achievable but still challenging enough to maintain interest.

Adaptive systems are also used in progression and reward mechanisms. Players might encounter quests, missions, or mini-games that align with their preferred play style. This creates a sense of ownership over the gaming experience, as the game feels responsive to individual choices and strategies.

Customised Content and Avatars

Personalisation extends beyond gameplay mechanics to visual and social elements. Players can now design avatars, choose outfits, and customise environments to suit their tastes. In online multiplayer and virtual worlds, these customisations are not just cosmetic; they reflect the player’s identity and style, enhancing immersion.

In online casinos, personalisation can manifest through tailored game recommendations. Platforms may suggest poker tables, slot machines, or roulette variants based on a user’s past activity, favourite themes, or preferred betting patterns. Online casino players may find personalised recommendations when playing on local domestic sites, which follow the UKGC’s rules and regulations, like GamStop, as well as when playing on offshore sites that operate outside of these rules. Recently, offshore sites have become a top choice for many at-home bettors. When playing at the best casinos not on gamstop UK bettors often find lucrative promotional offers and unique game titles. These perks have made offshore platforms a go-to option for many in recent years. When playing on either local or international sites, personalisation ensures that players spend more time engaged with content that appeals directly to them rather than navigating a one-size-fits-all interface.

Data-Driven Insights

The rise of data analytics has been central to personalisation in online gaming. Platforms now collect anonymised data on player behaviour, preferences, and patterns of engagement. Developers use this information to create more relevant experiences, optimise game balance, and improve overall satisfaction.

For Irish players, this can mean seeing offers, challenges, or events that reflect their interests. It could be a bonus in a preferred online casino game, a new level unlocked that aligns with past successes, or a notification about a live event that matches the player’s schedule. Data-driven personalisation ensures that every interaction feels curated and meaningful.

Cross-Platform Personalisation

Modern gamers often switch between devices, playing on desktop computers, tablets, or smartphones. Technology ensures that these experiences remain seamless and consistent across platforms. Cloud-based saves, synced progress, and adaptive interfaces allow players in Ireland to pick up where they left off, no matter the device.

Online casino players also benefit from cross-platform convenience. Whether they are at home or on the move, personalised dashboards, favourite game lists, and remembered settings create a continuous, tailored experience. This level of convenience strengthens engagement and satisfaction, encouraging longer and more frequent sessions.

Social and Community Features

Technology has also enhanced the social aspect of online gaming, allowing experiences to be tailored based on social connections. Friends lists, guilds, and multiplayer matchmaking systems consider player skill, location, and activity level to provide optimal gaming partners. This ensures that interactions are enjoyable and competitive rather than mismatched or frustrating.

In online casino platforms, social features like live dealer games or chat functions allow players to connect with others in real time. These features can be personalised by choosing dealers, table limits, or themes that match the player’s preferences, offering a hybrid of social engagement and individual choice.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

Personalisation in online gaming extends to accessibility. Games increasingly offer options that cater to different abilities and preferences, such as adjustable text sizes, colourblind modes, and simplified control schemes. Technology allows these features to be automatically suggested or applied based on user settings, ensuring that players can enjoy a comfortable and inclusive experience.

This inclusive approach also contributes to personalisation by recognising the unique needs of each player. Whether someone has specific accessibility requirements or simply prefers a different interface layout, technology ensures the platform adapts rather than expecting the player to conform.

Conclusion

The role of technology in personalising online gaming cannot be overstated. Irish gamers now enjoy experiences that adapt to their skill, style, and social connections. From adaptive gameplay and customised avatars to data-driven insights and cross-platform consistency, every aspect of modern gaming is designed with the individual in mind. Online casino players benefit from personalised game recommendations, tailored rewards, and interactive social features, ensuring that their experience is both engaging and unique.

As technology continues to advance, personalisation in online gaming will only become more sophisticated, creating experiences that feel uniquely tailored to each player. The result is a gaming landscape that is more immersive, enjoyable, and attuned to the needs of modern players. For anyone in Ireland or beyond, the future of online gaming promises unprecedented levels of convenience, engagement, and personal connection.

New research reveals that 75% of Irish teenagers use YouTube for education with 84% of teachers using YouTube content in their lessons

New research reveals YouTube as the leading platform for kids education across Europe. The study, conducted by Livity on behalf of YouTube, explored how children aged 13-18 use different platforms for learning.

Video content plays a central role in the daily digital lives of teens across Europe, helping unlock creativity, discovery and learning. Livity’s research, part of the upcoming “Future Report” from Google and YouTube, asked over 7,000 children aged 13-18 in seven countries across Europe, including Ireland, how they use digital platforms to learn for both school and fun.

Of those surveyed, 72% of teens said they watch video content at least a couple of times a week to help with learning for school or fun.

In Ireland, 75% said they use YouTube to learn something new for school (significantly higher than TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, or other platforms). 75% also use YouTube to learn something new for fun or outside of school – again, more than any other platform.

In qualitative research conducted by independent youth consultancy Livity, teens expressed the joy they found in discovering new interests and passions through video. Whether it’s exploring important topics around the world or looking up a video to help with algebra homework, YouTube is a place for them to learn, explore their passions and express themselves.

A separate study by Oxford Economics spoke to over 10,700 parents and 2,400 teachers across the EU27 and the UK about how they view and use YouTub. The research shows that parents and teachers also turn to YouTube to help kids learn, build creativity and understand the world around them:

  • 80% of parents who use YouTube agree that YouTube, or YouTube Kids, provides quality content for their children’s learning and/or entertainment

  • 71% feel confident in their ability to guide their child on how to use the platform responsibly

  • 84% of teachers who use YouTube report that they have used YouTube content in their lessons and/or assignments

  • 67% of teachers who use YouTube agree that YouTube helps increase student engagement.

Responding to the reports, Dr Garth Graham, Director and Global Head of Healthcare at YouTube said: “We recognise the important part we play in young people’s lives – so it’s great to see YouTube recognised as a place for young people to learn and explore their passions. We work closely and continuously with child development and digital wellbeing experts to make sure YouTube is an asset for kids – with their safety, privacy and wellbeing at the forefront”.

Pedro Pina, Head of YouTube Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “Age-appropriate, enriching and engaging content is helping kids, parents and teachers across the EU: helping inspire curiosity, imagination and celebrate diverse perspectives. YouTube is one of the first platforms to offer experiences designed specifically for young people. Our products for youth, YouTube Kids and Supervised Experiences, are developed under guidance from independent experts and reach over 100 million active logged-in and logged-out users every month.

YouTube Kids is a separate app designed specifically for children, where age-appropriate content, smart filters and parental guidance come together to create an appropriate, enriching and more controlled experience for your child; while Supervised Experiences – made for tweens and teens – gives parents control to select content that limits the videos and music that children can play, including setting suggestions in line with their age, as well as to view and change the features your child can use, their default account settings, and the ads they see.

Maxol announces online delivery service & American style conveyor car wash

The Maxol Group today announced the launch of a new, freshly prepared  meal delivery service, designed to support the growing evening economy.  The latest tech-driven innovation will initially be trialled at three Maxol locations, Donabate, Ardbrae, and Longmile Road. It’s a significant development that will see Maxol evolving its fresh food offering,  meeting changing consumer lifestyle trends through smarter, more connected retail experiences for every time of day.

Using a leading delivery aggregator to fulfil orders, Maxol has signed an exclusive 18-month deal with restaurant platform, Noahs to digitise meal solutions that can be ordered online alongside some of the forecourt convenience retailers’ most popular convenience grocery lines.

Noahs will provide Maxol with leading chefs to advise on new menus,  assist in the design of kitchens and provide comprehensive operating systems to offer a best-in-class solution available from a phone app, online or instore using touch screens.  “We already offer an extensive range of freshly made meal solutions, but this takes our offering to a whole new level and potentially, to a whole new set of customers,” said Brian Donaldson, CEO Maxol. “Our fresh food offering is primarily focused on breakfast through to lunchtime but starting 2026, customers can enjoy cooked-to-order, high quality meals such as pizza, Mexican bowls, burgers and much more, that will be delivered straight to their door.”  This move underscores Maxol’s transformation into a leading convenience food retailer, with non-fuel sales accounting for around 40% the company’s gross profit.

Car Wash – critical to success of the business

With an estimated 784k cars passing through a Maxol car wash in 2025, Maxol is taking steps to redefine what it means to deliver for customers beyond fuel. Car wash has become a critical and growing part of the operation, with Brian Donaldson explaining that it is a core service that strengthens customer loyalty and reputation, while driving repeat visits. Recognising the evolving expectations of motorists, Maxol is rolling out an American-style conveyor car wash technology representing a major leap forward in speed, quality, and customer experience.  This innovative car wash system is already operational at two Maxol stations in Dublin, following the company’s acquisition of sites in Spawell and Coolquay earlier this year.

Planning applications for the conveyor car wash system that combines advanced automation with precision will be lodged shortly for five of Maxol’s existing sites in Limerick, Cork, Dublin, Belfast and Derry.

Looking ahead, 2026 will further mark the next stage of Maxol’s innovation journey with the planned launch of a car wash subscription model, giving customers unlimited access for a simple monthly fee. This approach not only delivers convenience and value for drivers but eliminates individual payments and will offer access to even more loyalty rewards through the Maxol loyalty app. Car wash is one of a number of areas where Maxol is setting new benchmarks for service and innovation within the forecourt sector and Brian Donaldson said: “This expansion underscores our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction and I believe this will help position Maxol at the forefront of the next generation of forecourt retailing.”

emporia TOUCHsmart.3 Review

The emporia TOUCHsmart.3 is not a flagship smartphone, nor is it a basic “talk and text” feature phone. It carves out a unique and necessary niche: a clamshell (flip) phone that combines the simplicity and tactile feel of a physical keyboard with the modern connectivity required today, primarily instant messaging and flip phones are back with a bang and this one looks nice and is well built only the front display could have had some use but not this time.

It is clearly targeted at the senior market or those seeking a “dumbphone” experience who still need essential smart features like WhatsApp which is like other massaging apps more commonly used now and a growing trend with senior users of smartphones.

The TOUCHsmart.3 is built around a “best-of-both-worlds” design philosophy, blending hardware and software elements for maximum accessibility.

The most distinguishing factor is the flip design coupled with dual input:

  1. Physical Keypad: Features large, clearly labeled keys that are easy to press, making dialing and basic texting straightforward.
  2. Touchscreen: The internal 3.47-inch display is a full touchscreen, allowing users to navigate apps like WhatsApp and maps just like a small smartphone, you would be forgiven to forget it is actually a touch screen which I forgot several times but its cool and you should avail of it.

This combination addresses the common frustration of needing a full keyboard for dialing but a touchscreen for modern app interaction. Flipping open the phone also automatically answers a call like the good oul days with flip phones.

Unlike many basic feature phones, the TOUCHsmart.3 supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. Crucially, it runs on a simplified Android OS, giving it the power to run essential modern communication apps.

Emporia highlights the dedicated shortcut key for messaging (WhatsApp, Signal, or Telegram), recognizing that staying in touch often means more than just SMS and voice calls.

Yays

  • Ease of Use: The large buttons and the charging cradle are highly praised by the target audience (seniors).
  • SOS Function: The dedicated emergency button offers peace of mind by contacting up to five designated contacts instantly which is a key USP with emporia devices all round
  • Build Quality: It has an IP44 rating and generally feels sturdy and well-built.
  • Accessibility: Hearing aid compatibility (M4/T4) is a thoughtful inclusion.

Nays

  • Performance: The hardware (2GB RAM, MediaTek P35) can lead to some lagging especially when using complex apps or trying to multitask but this device is not targetted at such a user but tested anyway.
  • Battery Life: The 1,400 mAh battery capacity is relatively small for an Android-based device, possibly needing to charge it daily, particularly if using messaging apps frequently.
  • Limited Customization: Being an adapted Android device, it can be restrictive in accessing deeper settings or using alternative launchers.
  • Internal Storage: The 16GB internal memory is limited, although it is expandable up to 64GB via MicroSD.
  • Camera Quality: The 8 MP main camera is functional but delivers only basic photo quality, which is typical for a device in this segment but perfoms well in daytime scenarios.

The emporia TOUCHsmart.3 is an excellent choice for a very specific user: someone who values the tangible simplicity of a flip phone and physical buttons but cannot live without a key messaging app like WhatsApp to stay connected with family.

It’s the ultimate compromise phone—less complex than a full smartphone, but far more connected than a standard feature phone.

If your priority is simplicity, ease of calling/texting, safety, and a dedicated WhatsApp button, the TOUCHsmart.3 is a highly recommendable device.

However, if you require a phone for heavy internet browsing, demanding apps, long-lasting battery life without daily charging, or taking high-quality photos, you might find the performance and battery limitations frustrating but previous flip phone users of old will feel comfortable as they where the same before and again aimed at a targt demographic.
