How does NTN work? Discussing the best features of Satellite communication

Communication networks are very important in today’s world because they connect people, companies, and governments worldwide. Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) are one sophisticated system that has attracted much interest lately. NTN is pushing how we remain connected as satellite communication develops, especially in places conventional networks cannot reach. Emphasizing NTN’s importance in satellite communication, this paper will examine how it operates and its finest characteristics.

What is NTN?

Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) is a communication method wherein areas without typical terrestrial networks (such as fiber optics or cell towers) may have internet and network services using satellites, drones, or other aerial platforms. From rural places to even mobile situations like ships and aircraft, NTN provides a way to link far-off or difficult-to-reach locations.

While terrestrial networks run in space or the air, NTN guarantees a wider and more flexible reach, while ground-based infrastructure such as towers and cables forms the foundation of both. This makes military operations, emergency communications, and increasing internet access to underprivileged regions very vital.

How Does NTN Work?

NTN establishes communication linkages mostly via satellites circling the Earth. This is a detailed walk-through of this system’s operation:

  • Communication of Signals

In an NTN system, satellites pick up data signals from a base station—an Earth station. These signals might include video streams, audio chats, or internet data.

  • Satellite Relay

After receiving the signals, the satellite forwards them either straight to a ground-based receiver, such as a remote station, mobile device, or aircraft, or another satellite.

  • Ground Communication

These messages are sent back to Earth by the satellite. Ground stations or individual users can then receive the data, such as a phone call, an internet link, or information about guidance.

Best NTN Features for Satellite Communication

NTN is a necessary instrument for satellite communication as it presents various benefits and characteristics and has become more important in worldwide communication networks. Let’s investigate some characteristics:

Reliability and Fortitude

NTN is quite strong. Unlike terrestrial networks, which could be damaged by physical damage to towers or cables, NTN’s satellite-based infrastructure is resistant to many problems afflicting ground networks. Although natural events such as floods, earthquakes, or wildfires could compromise terrestrial communication networks, NTN operates in these circumstances and provides vital communication for emergency services and rescue.

This robustness makes NTN an excellent option for humanitarian missions, disaster recovery operations, and any situation where preserving communication is vital.

Enhanced Rural Area Connectivity

Building terrestrial infrastructure like fiber-optic cables is costly and time-consuming, so rural and remote locations can lack high-speed internet and other communication services. By beaming down satellite internet services, NTN closes the connection disparity for rural areas.

For those living in these places, this enhanced connection helps to provide greater access to healthcare, education, and economic possibilities. While telemedicine services enable healthcare practitioners to access patients in remote areas, high-speed internet may aid rural schools in providing online learning tools.

Backing for Mobility

One of NTN’s most vital points is its capacity to provide consumers with on-the-go connections. NTN ensures that lines of contact stay available, whether in distant military operations, aboard ships, or aircraft. For example, aircraft passengers may use NTN satellite systems to access the internet when traveling over the ocean or far-off areas.

Similarly, ships in the middle of the ocean may keep in touch with land utilizing satellite-based data and instruction receipts. For sectors such as aviation, marine transportation, and military, NTN is very essential because of its mobility.

Reasonably Affordable Growth

Expanding terrestrial networks to serve sparsely inhabited or far-off locations may be expensive. Laying cables, erecting towers, and preserving infrastructure needed for large financial outlay. By providing a reasonably priced substitute, NTN enables companies to deliver internet and communication services without requiring significant ground infrastructure.

For nations or areas with few resources to create conventional networks yet need high-quality communication services, NTN is thus a perfect choice. NTN may often be implemented as less expensive and quicker than terrestrial alternatives.

Compatibility with 5G

NTN is positioned to complement and improve 5G services as 5G networks are being rolled out. Through integration with terrestrial 5G networks, NTN can access regions beyond the reach of conventional 5G towers. Faster, more dependable internet services in regions where 5G alone may find it challenging to deliver coverage would be made possible by this alliance between NTN and 5G.

NTN can assist, for instance, distant industrial activities, 5G services for rural areas, or even highway travelers far from cities. This flawless integration guarantees that more individuals might benefit from 5G technology’s speed and efficiency.

Conclusion

Particularly in locations beyond the scope of conventional terrestrial networks, NTN is transforming our communication, Modern communication systems must include it because of its capacity to provide worldwide coverage, durability against natural catastrophes, and support of mobile settings. NTN will become more and more vital as satellite communication technology develops to link the globe and provide a dependable, adaptable, reasonably priced service for both urban and rural areas.

6 surprising things you can learn from playing games

When you hear the word “games”, you probably think of fun, excitement, or maybe even a waste of time (if you’re not a fan). But beneath the surface of all the thrilling gameplay and fantastic graphics, games can actually be incredible tools for learning. And it’s not just about educational games where you match words with pictures or solve puzzles to unlock math equations. Nope, even the most unexpected games can teach you valuable life skills that sneak up on you while you’re busy leveling up.

1. Protecting your privacy

Whether you’re playing on your console, phone, or PC, many games require you to share personal information, which can sometimes put your privacy at risk. Games often collect data about your habits, location, and even your spending preferences, and not all companies handle this data with the same level of care.

For instance, if you love playing casino games, you might choose one of the no verification casinos where you can play anonymously. The thing about these casinos is that they don’t have KYC regulations, so you don’t have to register with your personal data in order to play your favorite games. You can still enjoy gaming, but without unnecessary exposure of your private data, such as financial or ID.

When you learn to value your privacy through gaming, you can also become more aware of the importance of safeguarding your data in everyday digital interaction.

2. Problem-solving skills

Games throw all kinds of problems at you. You could be outsmarting a monster in an RPG, solving tricky puzzles in a mystery game, or finding the best strategy to conquer your enemies in a battle royale. The beauty of it is that these problems often require creative solutions, quick thinking, and adaptability–and all these skills transfer beautifully to the real world.

Let’s be honest: Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and neither do video games. When things go south in the game, you have to think on your feet. Maybe you’ve run out of healing potions, your weapons are on the verge of breaking, and you’re trapped in a corner. What do you do? You adapt. The ability to improvise can help you navigate everyday challenges in a much smoother, more strategic way. Plus, the satisfaction of figuring out a solution to an in-game problem? Priceless!

3. Teamwork and communication

If you’ve ever played a multiplayer game, you already know how important teamwork and communication can be. For instance, games like League of Legends, Fortnite, or even Among Us can show you that if you’re not talking with your teammates, you’re probably not winning. Yeah, it’s not just about shouting “Watch out!” or “Get over here!” It’s about listening, strategizing, and cooperating.

This is the best way to figure out how to best complement your team’s strengths and weaknesses. Are you the fast problem-solver, or the one who can read the game and anticipate what’s coming next?

Once you learn to communicate your ideas effectively and make quick decisions as a group, you’ll have an invaluable skill applicable in any part of your life–from the workplace to your personal relationships.

4. Resilience and perseverance

Have you ever rage-quit a game after losing for the tenth time, only to come back and try again the next day? That’s resilience. Games teach you to keep going, even when things get tough. You’ve probably noticed that failure is a huge part of gaming. You could be dying in a dungeon or missing a crucial jump–it happens to everyone. But you can also learn through these mistakes and push through them.

The cycle of failing, learning, and trying again fosters perseverance. It’s no secret that people who persevere are more likely to succeed, whether it’s in their careers, personal goals, or just getting through tough times.

5. Multitasking and time management

Think playing games is just about mashing buttons and zoning out? Think again! Many games, especially real-time strategy or resource management games, demand you juggle multiple tasks at once. You could be managing a base, gathering resources, and fending off enemies–all within a short amount of time. This could be a serious workout for your brain.

Playing these kinds of games can teach you how to prioritize tasks, balance multiple objectives, and make quick decisions–skills that come in handy for any fast-paced job or even just managing a busy schedule.

6. Cultural awareness and historical knowledge

Games set in different time periods or in various fictional worlds can really teach you about cultures, history, and geography. For example, the Assassin’s Creed series leads you through historical events and periods, from Ancient Egypt to Renaissance Italy. While the games take creative liberties, they still introduce you to important historical figures, events, and locations.

Even games like Civilization or Age of Empires can give you insights into how different societies evolve, expand, and interact with one another. Sure, you won’t become a history professor by playing these games, but they can definitely broaden your horizons and make history a lot more engaging than it was in school.

Alexion and DHL sign Ireland’s first pharmaceutical sustainability partnership to decarbonise freight of medicines

Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease and DHL Global Forwarding Freight today announced a new partnership to commence Ireland’s first sustainable fuel deliveries using Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for the pharmaceutical industry.

By converting to HVO fuel, the two companies are aiming to reduce annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) from road freight by up to 90% compared to GHG emissions associated with deliveries using diesel. The partners have identified multiple transport routes within Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Europe, which will all convert from diesel to HVO to deliver medicines manufactured in Alexion’s sites in Athlone and Blanchardstown, Dublin. HVO will be used in DHL’s vehicles on more than 500 deliveries, on an annual basis to 10 countries.

Produced from biomass such as used cooking oils and waste from food manufacture, HVO is a drop-in fuel, meaning it can be used within existing vehicles without compromising operational performance, removing the need for new infrastructure or fleet.

Reducing the GHG emissions associated with the transport of medicinal products is an important part of AstraZeneca’s wider sustainability strategy. This includes a focus on partnerships across the healthcare sector to accelerate the delivery of net-zero health systems, including supply chain decarbonisation. AstraZeneca has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 98% from 2015 base year.[i] From 2030, the aim is to halve the entire value chain footprint (absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions), from a 2019 base year, on the way to becoming science-based net zero by 2045.

Sylvia Kiely Vice President – Global Supply Chain and Product Strategy Lead, Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease said: Today’s announcement with DHL to move from Diesel to HVO fuel is another milestone in our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, and dependency on fossil fuels within our global supply chain in relation to Scope 3. By working with our partners to extend eco-conscious practices to our full freight network, we can further minimise our environmental impact and dependency on fossil fuels within our global supply chain.”

Maurice Meade, Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding Freight, Ireland, said: “This is another step in the right direction as we strive to run more sustainable operations for

our customers that reduce the inherent Greenhouse emissions in transporting goods. We are delighted to see Alexion be one of the trailblazers to make this significant switch in approach and thereby follow-up on their sustainability goals with clear actions. This initiative perfectly aligns with our sustainability strategy at DHL Group, whereby our aim is to reduce all logistics-related emissions to net-zero by 2050.”

Drivers of electric vehicles more likely to be at fault in road traffic crashes than drivers of petrol and diesel cars

Drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) are more likely to be involved in at-fault road traffic accidents than drivers of petrol and diesel cars, a study by researchers at Lero, the Research Ireland Centre for Software, and University of Limerick reveals.

In a paper to be published in November in the journal Accident Analysis & Prevention, the Lero researchers analysed insurance claims and data from onboard sensors and revealed a number of key findings:

  • Electric and hybrid drivers exhibit different behaviours than drivers of traditional vehicles.
  • Electric vehicles record more at-fault claims than traditional vehicles.
  • Electric vehicles are 6.7% more expensive to repair than traditional vehicles.

Lero researcher and co-director of the Centre of Emerging Risk Studies the Kemmy Business School, Dr Barry Sheehan, said EV drivers have a higher chance of experiencing an at-fault claim than drivers of cars with internal combustion engines (ICE).

“Our research finds that despite their lower average mileage than internal combustion engines, lower road exposure for EV drivers does not reduce their risk of experiencing an at-fault insurance claim. When analysing at-fault claims, we find a 4 % increase in crashes from EVs and a 6 % increase for hybrids (HYBs) compared to internal combustion engines.

“However, when tested with statistical models, hybrids do not display any further concerns of increased at-fault claim risk. These results indicate that EVs have a higher risk profile than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.

“Our research shows drivers’ driving behaviour changes significantly when switching to hybrids or EVs. These results mean EVs are more likely to experience an at-fault claim than internal combustion engines,” added Dr Sheehan, Associate Professor in Risk and Finance at UL.

Lero researcher and lead author Kevin McDonnell said their analysis of each fuel type shows that EVs and hybrids have lower average mileages than internal combustion engines.

“This suggests that internal combustion engines should have a higher probability of incurring an at-fault claim than alternate energy fuel-type vehicles. However, the claims data contradicts this assumption by providing evidence of increased at-fault claim occurrences in EVs through predictive modelling and risk analysis,” he added.

Lero’s Professor Finbarr Murphy, Executive Dean of the Kemmy Business School at UL and co-author said that, given the increased likelihood of incurring an at-fault insurance claim with less mileage, significant first-party damages, and battery costs, alternative energy vehicles are riskier and have a higher financial burden than petrol and diesel cars.

The study used telematic data from 125 million commercial fleet vehicle trips involving 14,642 vehicles recorded from January 2022 to October 2022 in the Netherlands. It also used an insurance claims dataset during the same period.

Lero, the Research Ireland Centre for Software, is based at University of Limerick and funded by Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland, formerly Science Foundation Ireland.

The paper is co-authored by Lero and UL’s Kevin McDonnell, Dr Barry Sheehan and Professor Finbarr Murphy as well as Professor Montserrat Guillen of Universitat de Barcelona and is available to read in full at: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001457524003063?via%3Dihub

Tech Review – HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones

The HyperX Cloud III wireless headphones are a much improved and welcome update to their previous model and look the part whilst keeping it clean and simple.

The build quality is excellent here with a robust finish and fit and look premium they are comfortable to wear for hours on end and do not sweat the ears and this is after testing on gaming and using for general music which you can do with these and they do not sound bad either on that front.

The cups are a soft leatherette finish as is the headband one one cup you have a volume wheel and the other is where all the other action happens with a port for the mic a USB-C port for charging and software updates the power key and a mic mute/monitoring button and all buttons tactile. The mic is is excellent this time around but could have been slightly longer however the sound is excellent and you then have the software to get your personal tailored sound, these are not on the bassy side so if you like bass perhaps a miss here but also remember you can customize. Sound is subjective and everyone’s ears different.

When gaming these capture sounds you may miss with other gaming headphones like footsteps and have a great soundstage overall and giving you a more immersive feeling compared to other gaming headsets out there. Vocals are good and so is dialogs with highs and lows well balanced overall.

Overall these are decent and well priced given I do not game that much I have reviewed many gaming headsets and earbuds and these did a good job overall and can be used for general music too and sound good so a bargain to be had if you want to use for both gaming and general music.

Employing a mining mechanism similar to Bitcoin and Litecoin, Beam has quickly gained traction among privacy advocates in the crypto community.

TAGRY XO8 True wireless earbuds review

The TAGRY XO8 True wireless earbuds are an affordable pair of earbuds with a clean look and have all the features you would expect at this price point.

Coming in a cool case too with wireless charging and a LED display on the front adds to the price factor here letting you know on the fly what battery power is left and speaking of power you can get up to 60 hour of use with these depending on your own settings, there is no app for these however they do well out of the box with no app and sound good.

Sound comes from 13mm speakers and triple-layer composite diaphragms which packs a punch with decent highs lows and mids and nice bass to them and and no lag latency noted either with bluetooth 5.3 on board.

These also work separately allowing you to double your battery life which is good and a feature often left out on more expensive earbuds.

With high volumes on my testing all was good with the odd tinny sound in some genres on the right side only but other than that they sounded great and also great on calls with not much interference with wind etc.

The controls worked really well and you can play/pause skip and reverse tracks and control your volume levels too and of course access to your voice assistant.

Overall a clean looking pair of earbuds with an IPX5 rating making them ideal for the sports enthusiast too and giving you decent sound with good battery life.
