Selfie sticks are a craze right now and also a pain in the ass for some, personally I hate them, they are annoying and pointless in most cases, with mobile phones getting better and devices that have cameras with good front facing cameras like Lumia phones there is no need for them and eventually we hopefully will see the craze slack off.
However people still carry them around like a spare limb and they annoy people with them, quite similar to folks who carry umbrellas and carelessly wave them all over the place..
There is now a site that can tell owners if they are allowed bring their weapon of annoying destruction with them or not, over the last year many places have imposed bans on them which is welcome in my book..
CanIBringMySelfieStick.com lists more than 100 attractions around the world, and whether selfie sticks are permitted are not.
Users can search by name, city or country and the website will list relevant locations with either a Yes or a NO.. As seen below we have a few Yes votes here in Ireland…
The website also gives more detailed information where needed, for example, Alton Towers says ‘yes’ to selfie sticks, but not on the rides.
While selfie sticks are the affordable tech gadget of the moment, their increasing use has led to a backlash with many finding them annoying and obstrusive, as well as potential safety concern.
Created by online ticket company AttractionTix.co.uk, the website will soon be adding the ability to submit new attractions.
Selfie stick restrictions are becoming increasingly common and have already been banned from numerous locations including several sports ground, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London’s National Gallery, and all of Disney’s theme parks.
