Tech Review – OBSBOT Meet 2 AI-Powered 4K Webcam

I’ve had the pleasure of testing several OBSBOT webcams in the past. The OBSBOT Meet 2 is the latest addition to their lineup, and it doesn’t disappoint. This compact and lightweight webcam comes in three stylish colors: Cloud White, Space Grey, and Aurora Green, making it a perfect fit for any setup.

Design and Mounting Options

The Meet 2 features a sleek and solid construction, making it durable and easy to mount. The magnetic mount allows for quick and easy attachment to the top of your laptop, while the optional tripod thread (1/4″) provides flexibility for other mounting solutions.

AI-Powered Imaging Technology

One of the standout features of the Meet 2 is its advanced AI-powered imaging technology. The Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) ensures swift and accurate focusing, making it ideal for live demonstrations and video calls where clarity is crucial.

Ultra 4K Resolution and Low-Light Performance

The Meet 2 boasts an impressive 4K resolution, capturing vibrant and detailed footage that brings your content to life. The upgraded 1/2″ CMOS sensor, coupled with an F/1.8 aperture, ensures exceptional performance even in low-light conditions. This allows you to produce high-quality content in any environment without compromising on detail or clarity.

Audio Quality and Noise Reduction

The dual omnidirectional microphones with Noise Reduction and Auto Gain Control ensure that your voice remains clear, even in noisy environments. This feature is particularly useful for gamers and streamers who often face background noise during their sessions.

Obsbot Ecosystem Integration and Streamlined Control

The Meet 2 seamlessly integrates with the Obsbot Center, unlocking features like AI Auto-Framing, Bokeh, and Beauty Mode for enhanced streaming visuals. It also supports multi-camera setups for smooth transitions between devices, perfect for showcasing different angles during gameplay. The webcam’s compatibility with OSC (Open Sound Control), Global Hotkey, and Stream Deck provides a streamlined user experience, allowing for easy customization and control of your stream.

Setup and Accessories

While the webcam can be used directly out of the box, it’s recommended to download the latest Obsbot software and firmware for optimal performance. The QR code on the box links to tutorial videos and articles, ensuring a smooth setup process. However, the lack of a carry case to keep the unit and accessories safe is a minor drawback

Dual Microphones with Noise Reduction and Auto Gain

Features That Give Gamers the Edge:

OBSBOT Ecosystem Integration: The Meet 2 seamlessly integrates with the OBSBOT Center, unlocking features like AI Auto-Framing, Bokeh, and Beauty Mode for enhanced streaming visuals. It also supports multi-camera setups for smooth transitions between devices, perfect for showcasing different angles during gameplay. Imagine switching seamlessly between your gameplay and a close-up of your reaction – it’s like having a dedicated cameraman for your stream!

Warranty

The 1-year warranty provided with the Meet 2 is a bit disappointing for a feature-rich technology product. A longer warranty period would instill more confidence in the product’s durability and quality.

Conclusion

The OBSBOT Meet 2 is a solid, budget-friendly, and practical webcam with excellent 4K resolution for video calls and live streams. Its AI-powered features, such as Auto-Framing, Bokeh, and Beauty Mode, enhance the overall streaming experience. While the warranty could be improved, the Meet 2 remains a compelling device packed with features.

Workhuman launches recognition app for Microsoft Teams

Workhuman®, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, has strengthened its market-leading Social Recognition platform by launching the all-new Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams. The application, which is now available for download in the Microsoft Teams app store, gives an organisation’s employees full access to all features of Workhuman’s powerful recognition platform from directly within Microsoft Teams, where employees are working, meeting, creating, communicating, and collaborating every day. Leveraging the latest capabilities in the Microsoft Teams platform, this new application allows Workhuman to offer its clients a way to elevate the awareness of and real-time participation in their employee recognition programmes.

“In the modern workplace, no one wants to stop what they’re doing to navigate to another application. We’ve radically simplified the user experience so that employees can participate in recognition where employees already are, natively within Microsoft Teams,” said Jim Drewry, Workhuman VP, Product. “This integration enables enterprises to meet and exceed performance and culture goals by recognising the whole human at any time, from any device with Teams access. Professional contributions, service milestones, and personal achievements are all highlighted and showcased in our Teams app homepage. Ultimately, pervasive recognition creates employees who are motivated to align with company culture and goals because they feel seen and recognised as human beings. This vastly improves employee perception and sentiment, which in turn means better business outcomes.”

Building upon Workhuman’s initial Teams integration, which supports users launching the recognition nomination process within Teams chats and Teams channels, the new app offers:

  • A native welcome page that enables instant recognition and showcases an ‘always on’ awards feed, and a highlight reel of years-of-service awards and celebrations without requiring employees to log into a company intranet.
  • Award notifications within the Teams Activity tab, and the ability to add kudos and congratulations to colleagues throughout the organisation who are receiving recognition or celebrating key life and work milestones, creating a more cohesive company culture experience.
  • The ability to deliver ‘in-the-moment’ recognition within a Teams chat, channel, or even meeting (with a Microsoft Teams meeting extension)– on mobile, desktop, or web versions of Teams.
  • The ability for employees to see their own points balance as a reminder of the recognition they have received from peers, and one-click access the Workhuman Store to browse and redeem for merchandise, gift cards, charities, or Experiences.
  • Teams administrators the ability to centrally permission and deploy the application into the organisation’s Microsoft Teams environment, with granular controls and strong security options.

Research from Workhuman and Gallup explored the impact of recognition on a business. One of the main findings found that one in four employees in Gallup’s global database strongly agree that they have received recognition or praise for doing good work in the last week. However, the study also found that if this number was doubled, businesses could see a 9% improvement in productivity, as well as $91,989,474 in gained employee productivity. Additional research found that when employees experience recognition for life events and work milestones, they are three times as likely to strongly agree they feel connected to culture.

The Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams harnesses all the power of an enterprise’s human resources and employee experience strategy and delivers it to a captivated audience to spark improved employee engagement, connection, retention, and productivity at scale. The release of the Workhuman app for Microsoft Teams is the next step in Workhuman’s evolution of bringing the power of its entire platform through the digital employee experience offered by Microsoft 365; including Microsoft Teams, Viva, Outlook, SharePoint, and more. UNBOXING

  •       Full HD 1080p @ 30fps
  •       Wide angle: 120° field of view
  •       Multi codec
  •       Full Duplex HD audio
  •       Omnidirectional microphone
  •       High-quality CMOS sensor
  •       Dynamic Noise Reduction (DNR)
  •       Echo cancellation
  •       Plug & Play
  •       USB 2.0
  •       3-year warranty

Setup & use:

The Boom UNO is easy to set up and use as required no additional software to be manually downloaded, Once this is plugged into the Laptop USB port the installation of the drivers and software is done in the background. You can then use it with any video conferencing platform such as Zoom, Teams, Webex, Meet, Bluejeans, GoToMeeting, Skype etc.  The device supports multiple resolutions up to 1080p at 30 frames per second and has a plug-and-play feature that makes it compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and Chrome OS.

When in use the green light indicated use,  or the Red light when muted, The lens can be slightly adjusted manually up or down. Once connected to eg a team call the kit defaults on the system to the Audio/video settings. The process of connections worked seamlessly and efficiently.

Once connected which was simple and easy the basic in terms of volume up, down mute worked.

A niggle in terms of the connections was noted in Teams & Youtube, On turning up the volume on 2 separate modern Windows laptops, the volume was increased/decreased but not shown on your tube or Team calls, When the mute was pressed on a team call, the call muted & change to red but again the mute symbol within the team call did change to advise muted. ( Technically this worked as expected but not the indication we have become familiar with )

The Audio when increased/decreased via the Uno up/ down buttons, had an effect of a step down of the volume rather than a liner approach noticeable when going from a low volume to 0 volume quickly, typically the frequency of calls on other devices gradually fade away while with Uno this audio when from low to zero.

The Brand: Boom Collaboration is a company that specializes in video conferencing and collaboration tools founded in 2020 with their  Headquarters in Austin, Texas, they also offer a range of high-quality cameras for video conferencing. Their logo boasts “We are on a mission to make Meetings Better. Simply.” Their Specialties include Videoconferencing, Collaboration Hardware, Video conferencing cameras, Webcams, Hybrid work solutions, Work From Home Solutions, All-In-One devices, PTZ 4K cameras, Distance learning, Telehealth, Huddle rooms, Intelligent AI solutions, Audio Visual Installations, NDI compatible cameras,

Warranty:

Boom Collaboration have got this right in terms of a 3-year warranty and an optional 5-year Boom Care plan which is an indication of their confidence in their brand.

Conclusion

The Boom UNO is a compact all-in-one high-quality audio and video device for use in small meetings, home or setting that required a video conferencing option. The kit is compact and I would like to see an option of a USB C cable and an option to connect to a phone, Bluetooth or via the USB C cable to increase the flexibility/option of the kit. The extension cable is excellent allowing to extend of the distance of the cable as required,

The colours of the screen are great to see in terms of Green and Red, but on testing on a team’s call, the mute does as required on the call but does not change the software mute icon to show mute. Similarly, the volume up/down features works but again the software does not show the increase on eg YouTube or MS Teams.

The setup and use are easy requiring no technical skills in this area with the extension cable a bonus to facilitate the placing of the kit further away from the laptop.

The audio experience in terms of moving away from the mic a distance worked quite well for calls where users did not experience a major deterioration  of the call quality as I moved further away from the 360° omnidirectional microphone, This was superior to many tested before due to the dynamic noise reduction and echo cancellation features.

The camera has a View angle: of 120° with a Resolution: of 1920 x 1080. This gave a good quality picture while when tested with one person on the call or a team the autofocus of a team’s call did not appear to have much of an effect.  The camera can be manually slightly tilted up and down while not a PTZ camera nor does it zoom in out to focus on an area. The camera cannot be manually blocked out rather have to do this via the laptop etc The quality from the  CMOS  Image sensor ( (1/2.8)) gave a good quality picture at @30fps.   The kit works as required with a simple-to-use setup with clear features colour coded for effective calls and audio

Tech Review – Jabra Evolve2 buds

The Jabra Evolve2 buds are the ideal partner to have if you work from home or in the office and use more than one device and if you are into meetings which is more common than ever these days these earbuds is what you need and if you like your music too well then these solve all these problems in one go and the thing is they are portable and can be brought anywhere and it is a super simple set-up with the dongle to switch between two devices which for me is key and a multipoint connection is for me something that is a must and again for those who work in either closed or open office space environments.

The design of the earbuds is familiar with their current range and for me is fine they work well and fit perfectly with the right tips and again this is something I always point out when using earbuds to get the best out of them and these also come with the MyFit option to ensure you have them set up at optimum levels which will benefit you in the end so do not skip the process, you can if you life however you will not get the full performance they offer if not, it only takes a few minutes and is worth it, trust me.

The App

The app as always is excellent although this time around it has being tailored towards the use of teams we have covered the app multiple times here on site but we do take a look in more detail in the video review below.. As expected the app is full of features and allows you take control of what you want and need with a nice UI and it is simple to navigate.

The sound

OK well what more would you expect from Jabra then? They sound great from all aspects of use be it connected to PC or phone and the same applies for using teams on both, there was some lag latency noted at first but an updated chimed through during testing and seems to have fixed it, like any other pair of Jabra earbuds I have used the I was confident these would not disappoint and that they did not given they are geared for Teams and UC platforms. In short these Evolve2 buds are a one stop shop for those who want to still enjoy their music and spend much of their day on Teams calls with no issues at all noted and drop outs during my testing.

The only thing noted was the ANC is not up to par at this price-point however these are a more targeted pair of earbuds towards the office if you will rather than a whole music experience but they overall as mentioned still are a one stop shop for those who are in the environments and you have a nice widget you can use on your phone to swap between modes also giving you the stats at hand for reference.

Key features of the Evolve2 Buds:

  • Certified for Microsoft Teams and leading UC platforms – for enhanced collaboration experience
  • MultiSensor Voice technology – ensures professional call performance by using multiple mics and Jabra algorithms to block out noise
  • Plug-and-play USB adapter for enhanced connectivity – 20 metre/65 feet range allows users the freedom to move around their work environment
  • Advanced Multipoint connection – connect to two devices at one time
  • Adjustable Active Noise Cancellation – filters out background noise allowing for increased focus
  • HearThrough and single earbud use – allows the user to hear surrounding sounds through the earbuds whilst wearing them
  • Increased battery life – with 33 hours of battery, including the case and wireless charging
  • Ultra-discreet design – for ultimate comfort and a professional look

New Name To Enter UK Conferencing Arena As Part Of Global Expansion – Boom Collaboration

A new name is aiming to shake up the video conferencing sector with plans to enter the UK market as part of a major global expansion programme.

Boom Collaboration was born in 2020 by founders Fredrik Hörnkvist and Holli Hulett, in a bid to disrupt the sector and stand out from the crowd – creating high performance, high value advanced products.

The ambitious Texas-based business has quickly developed an extensive conferencing portfolio and operates in 20 countries, with plans to extend to 30 more, as well as the UK. Many new product innovations are in the pipeline too, along with the development of a Boom training academy.

“Through these interesting, challenging and evolving times, from lockdowns to hybrid working, conferencing has been at the fulcrum of dramatic changes in daily and working life; how people interact and communicate, almost from anywhere,” Hörnkvist explained.

“We might still be a relatively new kid on the block but we’ve already made big strides forward with much more to come. Over the last few years we’ve been laying strong foundations for sustained growth so that Boom can really start to boom in the UK and beyond!”

Missing piece of the puzzle

Boom Collaboration aims to help plug a knowledge gap in certain areas of the market, from audio and video technology to meeting etiquette.

“We work across all sectors of the industry from AV integrators to traditional telephony resellers and accredited partners such as Zoom and Barco. We’re completely agnostic though and sales continue to rise by around 45% year-on-year.

“There’s definitely a knowledge gap due to the fast transition of people working from home and an explosion in software-based solutions such as Teams and Zoom.  We aim to be the piece that’s missing in the sector.”

Hörnkvist added: “Our goal is to emphasise the vital role hardware plays to improve the meeting experience. We are a trusted advisor about the best end points to drive the end user experience. It’s about matching the right equipment to the right rooms and helping organisations to transition at whatever stage of the journey they are on.

“Many resellers used to sell traditional telephone systems then IP handsets but now cloud-based full unified comms systems are taking over with video at their heart. So resellers have to adapt to maintain their revenue streams and that’s where we come in with our knowledge and expertise.

“Our forthcoming Boom Academy will teach not just how to connect multiple cameras and different systems but showcase our domain overarching knowledge. It’s about giving something back. We recognise some resellers will have to learn quickly or they are out of the game. This is where we can help a lot who have come from the traditional ‘voice’ space. Live demos, meeting room design overviews and how to embrace the latest trends, for example.”

Disruptive force

Co-founder Hulett agrees with the importance of building long term relationships. “We are young and fresh with new ideas, backed by years of personal experience that already makes us experts in this field. We are not afraid to stand out, be bold, brave and loud and do things a little differently.

A disrupter to take on the field.” Hulett concluded: “The Boom support team offers both pre and post sales support, available for the life of a product. All Boom products come with a standard three-year warranty with an optional five-year Boom care plan for complete peace of mind.

“We recognise quality makes a huge difference. It really matters. That’s why we went straight into 4K picture resolution for example. 4K is the future. It’s about continually raising the game and raising the bar.

“Equally we want to show personality, fun and passion. It’s not just about making money but helping our customers, building a good organisation and enjoying what we do. We are continually learning and evolving.

“We are young with lots of ambition to grow. We have agility, like to be different and the future is bright. We want to bring in dedicated in-house R&D and product teams and continue to build our distribution network all over the world. I’d say we are at a tipping point to accelerate much further forward, based on sustained, controlled growth. 2023 will be a big and exciting year for us in the UK and around the world.”

Jabra and Lenovo Expand Collaboration to Deliver First Full Microsoft Teams Rooms System

Jabra and Lenovo are expanding their collaboration to offer a seamless, easy to use meeting room system optimised for use with Microsoft Teams Rooms – the Jabra PanaCast 50 Room System. The purpose-built, modular room kit provides companies looking to upgrade their meeting room technology for the hybrid working world with enhanced business productivity and collaboration capabilities. The plug-and-play full room system is a first from Jabra and is certified for and preloaded with Teams Rooms software.

The system features the Jabra PanaCast 50 and Lenovo ThinkSmart Core Kit. The PanaCast 50 offers innovative 180-degree Panoramic-4K video and works seamlessly with Microsoft Teams Rooms’ front row layout to make hybrid meetings more inclusive and engaging. Lenovo’s ThinkSmart Core Kit includes the ThinkSmart Core and the ThinkSmart Controller, a 10.1inch, 10-point touch HD display that allows users to initiate and control meetings, as well as share content and work with colleagues working remotely.

“The typical meeting is not what it used to be, and it’s time for meeting room technology to catch up,” said Aurangzeb Khan, SVP of Intelligent Vision Systems at Jabra. “We’re delighted to unite the PanaCast 50’s unique capabilities with Lenovo’s innovative solutions to equip offices with solutions to foster inclusive and interactive meetings for everyone, regardless of where they are. The system works at the touch of a button and can connect employees seamlessly whether they’re in-person or connecting from home.”

“The shift to hybrid work has undoubtedly led to more demand for video enabled conference rooms, which is why we’re working with companies like Jabra and Lenovo to develop purpose-built Microsoft Teams Rooms,” said Albert Kooiman, Senior Director of Microsoft Teams Devices Partner Engineering and Certification. “Bringing together Jabra and Lenovo’s hardware with Microsoft Teams software allows users to experience key Teams features such as front row and Intelligent Camera, both for those in the meeting room and remote.”

The new product bundle provides everything needed to set up a Teams Room. The Jabra PanaCast 50’s 180-degree view allows for every attendee to be seen, no matter where they’re sitting. This is further amplified by Dynamic Composition, an intelligent camera technology Jabra co-developed with Microsoft and released earlier this year. It helps to bridge the gap between in-person and remote meeting participants by providing a close-up view of in-room participants when they speak.

Lenovo’s ThinkSmart Core is powered by an 11th Gen Intel® Core™ vPro® processor and delivers connectivity to support any meeting room configuration. Its understated yet stylish design means it can be placed discreetly, and it has ports to support multiple audio and visual accessories, along with integrated cable management. The ThinkSmart Controller’s easy-to-use Teams Rooms interface makes it ideal for meetings and collaboration.  It has Integrated Infrared sensors that detect when participants enter the room and automatically turns the system on and off.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Jabra to provide businesses with a way to bring their conference rooms into the hybrid work era,” said Shannon MacKay, General Manager of Worldwide Smart Collaboration Business, Lenovo. “Combining the power of our ThinkSmart Core solution with the Jabra PanaCast 50’s intelligent video system and Microsoft Teams Rooms technology will allow us to empower users to have more productive and inclusive meetings no matter where attendees are located.”

Building on the initial offering made available in EMEA last year, this joint-offering will be the latest full Teams Rooms system from Jabra. It will be available to order from September 15th 2022
