Pinergy partners with EnergyCloud to deploy smart tech that minimises energy waste and tackles energy poverty

Pinergy, the energy transition company, has today announced a new partnership with EnergyCloud Ireland, aimed at deploying smart tech to minimise energy waste, and tackle energy poverty to power a fairer energy transition in Ireland. Through this collaboration, surplus renewable energy generated will be distributed to fuel poor households via EnergyCloud, by providing a free tank of hot water.

EnergyCloud Ireland is a social enterprise company that works with utilities and wind energy producers to divert unused renewable energy to Irish homes experiencing fuel poverty. Fuel poverty impacts over 550,000 households every day in Ireland, yet since 2018 according to EirGrid, well over 5,000 GWh of zero carbon energy from wind generation went unused and ultimately wasted.

EnergyCloud’s mission is to create solutions to divert surplus renewable energy, which would otherwise be wasted, to Irish homes, with a primary focus on those in fuel poverty. This partnership aligns Pinergy’s desire to help customers understand their consumption to reduce energy waste today for a better energy future for all.

Commenting on the partnership, Enda Gunnell, CEO of Pinergy said; “At Pinergy we are on a mission to power energy transition in Ireland and support the move towards cheaper renewable energy. However, we are committed to ensuring that the inevitable energy transition is fair for all in society and that any waste of precious renewable energy is minimised. Our partnership with EnergyCloud can help us achieve these goals and enable us to play a small part in addressing energy poverty.”

Participating households are equipped with EnergyCloud enabled smart technology which allows surplus and otherwise wasted renewable energy to be used to heat immersion tanks, at no cost to the household occupants.

John Mullins, Chair of EnergyCloud said: “This partnership between EnergyCloud Ireland and Pinergy commenced a number of months ago and already families are benefiting from the scheme. EnergyCloud works with partners to fulfil our mission of using surplus renewable energy to help tackle fuel poverty. For the families involved this is really great news and illustrates how we can collectively use smart technology to lessen the impact of fuel poverty. EnergyCloud is proud to partner with Pinergy as part of their commitment to power the energy transition and support greater use of renewable energy in Ireland.”

Pinergy SolarElectric announces a 13.5 per cent discount on solar installations in advance of Government VAT move

Pinergy SolarElectric, one of Ireland’s fastest growing solar energy businesses, has today welcomed the planned abolition of VAT on solar energy installations, and announced that it will give its residential customers the benefit of the VAT reduction from today with a 13.5 per cent discount on the cost of installations.

This planned move by the Government should see the cost of installing solar panels reduced by as much as €1,000, based on the cost of an average installation falling from €9,000 to €8,000. It is expected that the VAT will be formally removed from domestic and public building installations in early July, as part of the Spring Finance Bill.

Commenting on these latest developments, Ronan Power, newly appointed CEO at Pinergy SolarElectric said: “We very much welcome the Government’s plans to abolish VAT on domestic solar installations, representing a major positive step in Government policy around meeting our climate action targets as part of the energy transition. This is a very positive move. From today, we are delighted to announce that our customers will be able to benefit from the reduction in VAT with a 13.5 per cent discount on installations. Our discount will offset the VAT costs for our customers until they are removed by the Government, later in the summer.”

He added: “We expect that the Government’s abolition of VAT for solar installations will go some way towards encouraging more homeowners to consider investing in solar energy this year and into the future. We urge homeowners to consider Solar Energy now to make sure they can maximise their generation of electricity in their homes in the key months of May and June when solar generation is at its peak. Solar Panels have a lifespan of over 25 years and we expect the payback to reduce to about 5 years with this latest cost reduction.

“Together with the Clean Export Guarantee payments from suppliers like Pinergy and generous SEAI grants, there has never been a better time to consider solar energy for your property.”

The new 13.5 per cent discount on domestic Solar Energy installations are subject to a successful site survey which is a free and no obligation service from Pinergy SolarElectric.  Pinergy SolarElectric will continue to charge VAT on domestic installations until the effective date of the reduction of VAT with the 13.5 per cent discount on installations meaning homeowners will get the benefit of the VAT reduction from today.

Businesses struggling to monitor and report on key sustainability metrics

Businesses in Ireland are currently struggling to comprehensively measure, monitor and report on the range of metrics that they contribute to as part of the energy transition and in taking positive climate action.  According to new independent research* conducted on behalf of clean energy supplier, Pinergy, by iReach, 27 per cent of SME’s, employing less than 100 people, do not currently have any tools for effectively measuring, monitoring and reporting their consumption/contribution when it comes to energy, waste, water, air quality and carbon footprint.

The research also highlighted the top three actions businesses are citing to take in reducing their carbon footprint in 2022 are a focus on reducing electricity waste (43 per cent), reducing landfill waste and increasing recycling (40 per cent) and reducing water waste (34 per cent).

Despite a growing demand and trend among businesses to play their part to become more sustainable, without the tools to monitor and measure their contributions, many will continue to struggle to effectively manage and implement these stated actions and targets.

In response, Pinergy has now developed a new measurement as a service proposition whose aim is to make measurement and reporting accessible to all businesses regardless of size with their simple to use technology.

Through this new service, Pinergy will give businesses the ability to measure the performance of their premises or buildings under various metrics.  The objective is to ensure that ‘what gets measured, gets managed’. Pinergy will install a series of meters and sensors in the building of its customer, that will enable the business to measure electricity & gas usage (regardless of supplier), water usage, waste usage (with select waste companies) and most timely of all, the quality of the air in their buildings.

In terms of measurable performance indicators, Pinergy will be able to offer businesses real time data, automated reporting, target and benchmark settings, carbon reporting and various other sustainability measurements across each of the categories covering energy, water, waste and air quality. For Property Management firms in particular this information can really help in delivering on key ESG goals.

Companies are already using Measurement as a Service to streamline their reporting; John O Donovan with the JLL Management Agent team at The Tio North Dock One & North Dock Two building in Dublin said: “This is a service that is very important to us, for monitoring energy and utility usage which reduces cost and saves time by bringing together a number of different reports into one portal.”

Commenting on this latest development for Pinergy, Colm Foley, Channel Manager, Business, said: “At Pinergy, we are constantly looking for new ways that our customers can make the most of not only their energy usage but how they can most efficiently manage their buildings and premises. Not only can we now give our customers the ability to measure sustainability KPIs such as their carbon footprint, but we can also show how well utilities such as Electricity, Gas and Water are being used across their property portfolio.”

“Delivering our Measurement as a Service offering is empowering our customers with data and insights to make more informed decisions that are better for the business and better for the environment.”

* Research was conducted nationwide as part of the iReach Business Decisions Omnibus Survey Q1 2022. Over 200 SME businesses responded to the survey, delivering a high level of statistical accuracy.

Pinergy and climote partner to market smart new immersion controller #Pinergy #Climote

Pinergy, the smart energy supplier delivering clean electricity has today announced an energy efficient partnership initiative with climote, one of Europe’s leading brands in the home energy technology sector.  The partnership will see the soon-to-be-launched climote Smart Immersion Controller available as part of a ‘Pinergy Lifestyle H2O’ plan supporting the sustainable energy needs of families with smart meters.
The Pinergy Lifestyle H2O plan enables Pinergy’s customers to avail of an attractive discount unit rate of 5c per kilowatt-hour (kWh) between 4am and 7am, when using electricity to heat the water in their immersion tank. This plan is both more affordable and environmentally friendly than many existing carbon-based alternatives in the market as it fully utilises Pinergy’s 100% renewable energy supply.
Commenting on this latest innovation partnership for Pinergy, Enda Gunnell, chief executive at Pinergy said: “At Pinergy, we are driven by leveraging smart technology, deep partnerships and a passion for empowering everyone to play their role in creating a sustainable energy future.  The introduction of our Pinergy Lifestyle H2O plan and its integration to the new climote Smart Immersion Controller is another game changer for consumers looking for a better and more carbon friendly way to heat water.”
The new climote Smart Immersion Controller replaces the traditional sink/bath switch with a more sophisticated wall-mounted controller that is linked to sensors placed on the water tank. The product, which can be fully installed in less than 90 minutes, visually displays how much usable hot water is in your tank, allowing you to boost supply at the touch of a button and easily manage the clock settings to avail of the most competitive electricity rates over a 24-hour period.  The climote Smart Immersion Controller can also be operated via the climote Smart Immersion App, so you can view and boost your hot water from anywhere and at any time.
Eamon Conway, CEO at climote said: “Hot water heating typically represents 20% of our home energy usage, generated mostly from a fossil fuel source such as an oil or gas boiler. From our research many customers highlighted that they would like to contribute to a clean energy future but are unsure where to start. Teaming up with Pinergy with this new H20 tariff means that consumers can now heat their hot water with renewable electricity, allowing them to both reduce energy usage and to get started on their decarbonisation journey.”
