Hidden data risks: how ChatGPT at work could expose your business.

Legal Island, one of Ireland’s top compliance specialists, has issued a stark warning to employers: your staff could be feeding confidential business data straight into the public domain; and you, or in fact they,  probably don’t even know it.

Before using ChatGPT, users can disable its training mode, a setting that, when left on, allows OpenAI to store and use input data to refine future responses. It became apparent to Legal Island that many employers are allowing the use of ChatGPT without any proper training, and without making their employees aware of the importance of turning off the training function before using the tool.

A new survey of 100+ organisations, conducted by Legal Island, found that just 4% of users knew how to disable ChatGPT’s training function, the simple privacy toggle that prevents OpenAI from reusing sensitive data.

Barry Phillips, Chairman of Legal Island and author of a new book, ‘ChatGPT in HR’, put it bluntly: “When the training feature is left switched on, OpenAI can capture the information entered into ChatGPT and recycle it to improve future outputs. If your staff are using ChatGPT with the training function left on, you’re potentially leaking commercially sensitive data into a giant AI engine. That data could pop up in someone else’s prompt next week. It’s a legal, reputational, and regulatory mess waiting to happen.”

Phillips continued: “While it’s encouraging that employees are embracing ChatGPT and teaching themselves how to use it, the lack of formal training is alarming. Our research shows a worrying knowledge gap as most employees in Ireland don’t even know the tool has a training function, let alone how to disable it.”

To address this compliance crisis, Legal Island has developed a free 10-minute e-learning module for employees, showing them exactly how to use ChatGPT safely, including how to switch off the training function before entering any data.

Without proper training, it’s a data breach in the making. This issue is too important to ignore, so we’re encouraging employers to take action today and avail of the free compliance training.”

Dublin City Council and OpenAI Announce Partnership to Show the Potential of AI to Support Europe’s Tourism Industry

Dublin City Council and OpenAI are today announcing a partnership that leverages the power of artificial intelligence to support Europe’s tourism industry. This collaboration comes as Dublin proudly accepts the title of European Capital of Smart Tourism for 2024, underscoring the city’s commitment to innovation in tourism.

The partnership aims to set a new standard for smart tourism innovation across Europe, showcasing the potential of AI to enhance the visitor experience. Key initiatives include:

-Co-development of a Dublin Itinerary Planner Proof of Concept “A Day in Dublin”: Leveraging the advanced capabilities of GPT-4, this innovative tool will showcase how bespoke travel recommendations can make Dublin’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant city life more accessible to visitors. This prototype has been designed to show the potential of generative AI to support unique, bespoke experiences for visitors instead of generic to-do lists.

-Supporting Tourism Across Europe: A hands-on workshop will be held for leaders of smart tourism destinations across the EU this September in Dublin. This session will explore how AI can be utilised in various aspects of tourism, including city promotion, destination branding, tourism engagement, and itinerary planning.

Zoom Announces Zoom IQ Expansion + Use of OpenAI

Today at Enterprise Connect,  Zoom Video Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZM) announced the expansion of Zoom IQ, a smart companion that empowers collaboration and unlocks people’s potential by summarizing chat threads, organizing ideas, drafting content for chats, emails, and whiteboard sessions, creating meeting agendas, and more. The company also announced it will use OpenAI to bolster its unique federated approach to AI based on flexibility.

Zoom’s federated approach to AI leverages its own proprietary AI models, those from leading AI companies– such as OpenAI –and select customers’ own models. With this flexibility to incorporate multiple types of models, Zoom’s goal is to provide the most value for its customers’ diverse needs. These models can also be customized to perform better for a customer, based on their vocabulary and requirements.

  • Zoom IQ meeting summary: Generate a summary, capture next steps, and share via Team Chat, Zoom Calendar, and email without recording the conversation, so those who didn’t attend will no longer have to sit through lengthy recordings.

  • Zoom Huddles (formerly Zoom Spots) is a new video-enabled virtual coworking space designed to foster ad-hoc discussions and relationship building, to replicate the “working alongside” aspect of an open office and encourage free-form video-first conversations.   • Zoom Scheduler makes it easy to find the perfect time for meetings by sharing the host’s availability so others (even external participants) can conveniently book appointments. Zoom Scheduler reduces the back-and-forth hassle of manual scheduling by placing a meeting on the host’s calendar with a Zoom Meetings link already included, saving both participants time. Zoom Scheduler works seamlessly with Zoom Meetings and Zoom Mail and Calendar, and integrates with Google Calendar and Microsoft 365, so hosts can use their preferred calendar.
