Nikon introduces the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II lens

Nikon introduces a new second-generation S-Line zoom, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II lens. With Nikon’s best AF system to date, redesigned S-Line optics, stronger image stabilisation, improved ergonomics, and a lighter build, this upgraded f/2.8 professional medium-telephoto zoom lens gives photographers and video shooters the edge in more situations than ever before.

Weighing in at a class-leading1 998 g,2 the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II offers a significant upgrade in terms of balance, agility, and stability. A full 362 g lighter than its predecessor, and 12 mm shorter, this new lens is more comfortable to handle when shooting handheld and video shooters using a Z camera on a gimbal will benefit from the balanced internal zoom, which keeps the centre of gravity consistent when changing focal lengths. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II also boasts up to 6 stops3 of in-lens Vibration Reduction, which combines with the fast f/2.8 aperture to deliver every advantage in challenging conditions, and Synchro VR maximises stability at the centre and edges of the frame with compatible Z cameras.

Responsiveness gets a massive boost thanks to the speed and silence of the new AF system, which is equipped with Nikon’s Silky Swift voice coil motors: AF speed is up to 3.5x faster5 compared to the first generation of this lens, and 50% quieter, plus scan time at the telephoto end is reduced and focus tracking is more accurate when zooming. Precision has also improved significantly thanks to the all-new optical formula: with fewer elements used to greater effect, the streamlined optical design takes sharpness, bokeh, and anti-glare performance to new heights while also contributing to the overall reduction in lens weight.

Pro-grade weather sealing protects the lens, and ergonomic improvements include a removable tripod collar, an ARCA-SWISS tripod foot, and a de-clickable control ring.

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Nikon Europe says: “We are excited to introduce another second-generation f/2.8 pro-grade zoom. With ergonomic improvements, a new optical design, a leap in AF performance, and a significant reduction in size and weight, you get a lens with class-leading features and capabilities to work with. It’s the kind of upgrade that can take your whole Z system to the next level of performance.”

The perfectly balanced optical design combines with powerful rendering and precision focusing to capture scenes in masterful detail. From the subtlest colours to the finest textures, contrast and clarity is superb throughout the frame—even if shooting directly into harsh light sources. Bokeh and sharpness are finely rendered, with backgrounds and foregrounds transitioning so smoothly that subjects can be isolated with an almost three-dimensional sense of depth.

Visual storytellers and cinematographers who want to harness the ultra-shallow depth of field can work confidently with the f/1.2 aperture thanks to Nikon’s fast, meticulous multi-focusing system. The slimmest sliver of a scene can be brought into sharp focus against round, smoothly graded bokeh—even when shooting from close range. Whether shooting in landscape or portrait orientation, intuitive and fully customisable controls are within easy reach, and this robust full-frame lens is fully sealed for work in dusty environments or unpredictable weather conditions.

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Nikon Europe says “The 35mm focal length has been cherished by photographers and filmmakers since the early days. Now, thanks to the incredible light-gathering capabilities of the Z mount, we’re proud to release the most refined iteration of a 35mm lens yet. With its masterful optical design and extremely bright aperture, this full-frame S-Line lens is designed for visual storytellers who want the very best. I can’t wait to see how masters of the craft will take the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S into the next era of beautiful image making.”

Classic 35mm focal length, masterful rendering: phenomenal resolving power for detailed, accurate reproduction of scenes at any focus distance. The clarity of colour and contrast throughout the frame is exceptional.

Ultra-fast f/1.2 maximum aperture: for superb aesthetic control in any light. The slimmest sliver of a scene can be brought into sharp focus against smoothly graded bokeh—even when shooting from close range.

Sublime bokeh: the 11-blade rounded aperture and advanced optical design result in beautifully round, soft bokeh with no fringing—even around point light sources.

Precision S-Line optics: the optical formula consists of 17 elements in 15 groups. Specialised ED and SR lens elements work together to counter light dispersion and prevent colour fringing, distortion, and aberrations.

Exceptional clarity: Nikon’s most advanced anti-reflective coatings, Meso Amorphous Coat, ARNEO Coat and Nano Crystal Coat, virtually eliminate flare and ghosting even in challenging backlit locations.

A cinematographer’s favourite: the classic 35mm focal length couples with the fast f/1.2 aperture to let filmmakers shape the narrative with fluid precision. Focus breathing is suppressed, and linear focusing can be enabled for controlled manual focus pulling via the focus ring.

Swift, razor-sharp AF: the multi-focusing system offers incredible precision and speed even when working with an ultra-shallow depth of field. Dual stepping motors make swift continuous adjustments to keep the point of focus sharp.

Effortless handling: two L-fn buttons are perfectly placed for horizontal and vertical shooting. The large, knurled focus ring actuates smoothly, and the control ring is fully customisable.

Tough: the solid body is extensively sealed at the barrel joints and buttons—and a rubber gasket prevents dust, dirt, or moisture from entering the lens mount.

Accepts 82 mm filters: the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S accepts the same wide range of 82 mm screw-on filters as both the 50mm and the 85mm f/1.2 S-Line lenses.

Part of the S-Line f/1.2 trinity: depth of field, colour fidelity, tone, bokeh—shift perspectives while maintaining incredibly consistent image characteristics across the 50mm, 85mm, and 35mm NIKKOR Z f/1.2 S-Line lenses.

Nikon announces the COOLPIX P1100 compact digital camera

Nikon has announced the COOLPIX P1100, a compact digital camera boasting a 125x optical zoom with superior operability. Designed for photography enthusiasts, the COOLPIX P1100 enables the capture of high-quality images whilst providing an enhanced super-telephoto experience.

Building on the legacy of its predecessor, the acclaimed COOLPIX P1000, the COOLPIX P1100 offers improved usability and advanced features. Its 125x optical zoom spans an impressive focal range of 24–3000mm, providing versatility from wide-angle to super-telephoto, while for those seeking greater reach, the Dynamic Fine Zoom pushes the zoom range to a staggering 250x (6000mm equivalent).

In addition to the extended zoom, the COOLPIX P1100 now offers improved flexibility with a selectable AF-area mode in Bird-watching mode, allowing for more precise framing. What’s more, users can assign functions to the Fn1/Fn2 buttons on the optional ML-L7 Remote Control, improving control during remote shooting.

Like the COOLPIX P1000, the new COOLPIX P1100 combines Nikon’s powerful EXPEED image processor and high-performance NIKKOR lens to deliver consistently clear image quality, at extreme zoom levels. Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) provides stabilisation equivalent to 4.0 stops, reducing camera shake and ensuring sharp, detailed results – even during hand-held shooting of distant subjects like birds or celestial bodies.

For video enthusiasts, the COOLPIX P1100 supports 4K UHD/30p recording, as well as superlapse and time-lapse movie options. With its versatile operability and compatibility with a wide range of accessories, this camera empowers users to push creative boundaries and experiment with diverse imaging possibilities.

Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, comments: Building on the success of the COOLPIX P1000, the COOLPIX P1100 offers an expanded 125x optical zoom and improved image stabilisation, supporting photographers to capture distant moments with enhanced clarity. Whether you’re photographing wildlife, the moon, or faraway landscapes, we are proud to offer the COOLPIX P1100 for photographers looking for reliable performance, flexibility, and the creative freedom to explore new frontiers in photography.”
