Digital first and simplicity for customers of home and motor insurance

A new survey by Deloitte Ireland shows an overwhelming preference towards purchasing home and motor insurance through digital channels.

When asked what their preferred channel to purchase home insurance was, 60% of respondents showed a preference for online, via mobile (23%) or computer (37%). These results were echoed when respondents were prompted to give their preference for purchasing motor insurance, with 57% stating online channels as their top preference, via mobile (22%) or computer (35%). In addition to online channels, phone remains a popular choice with 31% of respondents citing it as their first choice when purchasing home insurance, and 29% for motor insurance.

Digital is table stakes but concerns around personal data remain

Irish customers have a somewhat conservative view in relation to the level to which they are willing to share more sensitive personal data with insurers to enable value adding or other data-based services, even if there is a potential cost reduction involved. In terms of data types, respondents were most reluctant to share data associated with their social media history (20%) and previous spending patterns (24%).  The survey of 516 participants carried out found that this resistance was less obvious for information such as insurance history (61%), car (56%) and home usage (46%).

Commenting on the survey results, Ciara Regan, Partner and Insurance, Deloitte Ireland said: “Clearly, insurance companies must continue to offer the channels most favoured by their customers, and ensure the services are tailored and personalised. While digital is now table stakes, it can’t be at the expense of customer relationships.  Almost a third of consumers across all age groups prefer to buy home insurance over the phone. Possible reasons for this could include an appreciation for personalised customer service and experience, as well as the belief that negotiating over the phone can yield a better price.

“While the research does demonstrate a clear preference for digital interactions, some methods of communications such as ‘online account notifications’ are of little interest – with only 5% favouring them. This shows how cognisant insurance companies need to be about how they engage through digital channels. The survey shows that younger people (18-24) are more averse to sharing personal data with motor insurers than their older counterparts” continued Regan. “This could be because younger consumers are more aware of the dangers of data and identity theft. Whatever the case may be, the survey results suggest that insurers face a steep hill to climb if they are targeting data-dependent features at the younger market.”

Customers want simplicity, flexibility, and transparency

Customers want products that are simple, easy to purchase and use, respondents favouring the “basic” product as it is “convenient, cost effective and easy to engage with”. Customers also demonstrated a preference towards having the ability to adjust their insurance as their financial and life circumstances change, respondents stating that “paying according to your needs and affordability”, is a key driver in their preference towards the “self-controlled & adjustable” product. Another product you could try out too is Agile Rates.

This is unsurprising, given that 50% of respondents stated they have been working from home since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, as well as 60% of respondents stating that they have driven their vehicle less in the last two years.

“It is therefore important that insurers strike the right balance when designing and delivering new products and propositions to their customers,” said Regan.

“They need to meet customer expectations in terms of offering them new and interesting features that differentiate them in the market but these need to be underpinned by clear and tailored messaging as well as seamless experiences that customers find easy to engage with.”

Value and ease of purchase ranks higher than brand

The way consumers are purchasing their insurance is changing, and as a result reduced levels of brand recognition were evidenced across both home and motor products. Insurers need to have a clear strategy with the right capabilities to deliver differentiated experiences.  A previous Central Bank of Ireland survey showed that 79% of respondents cited price as their top purchasing decision factor, followed by cover/ benefits (53%) and ease of purchase (33%); brand and reputation of the insurance provider rated among the lowest in terms of primary consideration for consumers.[1] From a home perspective, when asked to identify their insurance provider, 60% of home insurance policy holders stated the name of their insurance company, with 22% stating the name of a retail intermediary such as their bank. 18% of respondents did not recall the name of their home insurance provider when prompted.

These results are echoed from a motor insurance perspective, although better recognition was observed for some of the leading brands, with 73% of respondents naming their insurance provider, 21% referencing a retail intermediary and the remaining 6% not naming any provider.

Open to new purchasing channels

When asked the level of desirability towards different purchasing options, respondents showed they were open to new purchasing channels through point-of-sale models such as car manufacturers, motor dealers as well as through mortgage lenders.  Almost four in ten (39%) of those surveyed would consider buying home insurance through their mortgage lender while almost two thirds agreed it was either – extremely (11%), very (25%) or somewhat (31%) – desirable to be able to purchase motor insurance through their car dealer.

“Insurers must have a clear strategy of who they want to target, leveraging the right data insights to deliver relevant value propositions to their chosen segments as and when they need them,” Regan said. Those that are winning the market are differentiating themselves by maximising the touchpoints they have with customers, creating new and more meaningful opportunities to drive engagement while enabling end to end experiences, underpinned by digital.”

GoCar announces €1 million investment in national expansion

Ireland’s leading car sharing service GoCar, today announced an investment of over €1 million in the expansion of its car sharing fleet across new locations nationwide this year. The investment will primarily fund the provision of a new fleet of cars and vans in line with growing demand for GoCar car sharing services among the general public since the covid-19 pandemic.

By the end of 2022, the company forecasts a 15% increase in car sharing locations throughout Ireland compared to 2020. In total, GoCar will have more than 700 car sharing locations nationally this year, with more than 900 vehicles available to rent by the hour and more vehicles expected to be added in line with rising public demand.

Over the past two years, GoCar has been growing beyond its traditional urban centres in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway – this is part of the company’s strategic commitment to make car sharing more accessible to drivers across Ireland as a sustainable and flexible alternative to private vehicle ownership. The car sharing service has already begun its regional location rollout with car sharing now available in multiple locations throughout counties Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Mayo, Wicklow, Westmeath and Kerry.

Demand for car sharing services remained buoyant following the pandemic outbreak in 2020 and public interest began to rise last year with GoCar expanding its fleet of vehicles by almost 10% in 2021, with a total of 860 vehicles available to users across the country. The company also experienced a 5% increase in car sharing trips booked in 2021 compared to 2020.

Paul McNeice, Head of Country for GoCar, said: “It’s fantastic to see demand for car sharing among the general public on the rise and as a result we are determined to make it as accessible as possible for consumers across the country.
For many households, GoCar presents a reliable and important alternative to car ownership and is a really cost-effective solution for daily transport needs including commuting, shopping, recreational trips, staycations and more.

“National preference and attitudes towards private car ownership and sustainable transport are constantly evolving, and now, more than ever before, people are re-evaluating their individual transport requirements and considering flexibility, cost and importantly, environmental impact. To this effect, we hope that our investment in the national expansion of our car sharing fleet will provide an effective transport solution for more people looking for alternative transport options.

GoCar enables customers to rent cars and vans from just €10 an hour, with corporate customers using the service to meet work-related transport needs and reduce fleet costs. Registered users can easily book via the GoCar app, then unlock the vehicle with their phone; the keys are inside the car, with fuel, insurance and Dublin city parking all included in the rental price.

Auto Loan Solutions: How To Buy a Car Online?

Purchasing the car of your dreams might be expensive, but different financial institutions make it easier for you by providing auto loans. Auto loans are usually offered by the banks and other lenders, with a specific interest rate percentage that has to be given back with the installments of the original amount.

Interest rates may vary from lender to lender, so you have to complete your research before opting for one. Unfortunately, this research might take days and a ton of effort before you can conclude it. This is where auto loan comparison websites come in handy.

Comparison websites surely make the process of buying a car with an auto loan much more convenient, and it can also save your precious time while doing so. Moreover, the next step after choosing the ideal auto loan option for you, you have to find good car insurance. For this, there are specific insurance comparison websites where you can compare car insurance and select the best option for you.

A step-by-step guide on how to buy a car online with an auto loan is given below.

Budgeting

Setting your budget accordingly is the first and foremost step in the process of buying a car online. You have to carefully determine the budget that you can spend on the new car that you are planning to buy. You can set your budget while keeping your current assets, monthly income, liabilities, and everyday expenses in mind.

Narrowing Down Your Options

Once you have set your budget, you can only move further in the process by selecting the car you can buy in the set price range. You may find several versions of the same cars online, so you just have to skim through the characteristics you need in your car and select an option.

Almost all car manufacturers have a breakdown of the specifications of all their vehicles on their websites. You just have to narrow down your options here so you can finally select the model of car that suits your needs the best. Comparing the specs side by side can make this process easier for you. Moreover, don’t forget to find customer reviews from people already using the car.

Auto Loan Comparison

As stated before, there are various loan companies providing several kinds of auto loans. Of course, you have to compare the options for car loans in Brisbane and check the interest rates being charged by all of them. But before this, you have to decide the time in which you are planning to pay back the loan.

Once you have a clearer picture of your budget and the payback period, you can compare the options thoroughly. The best thing is you have several options to compare car loans for free online. You just have to provide your budget and payback time to the website, which can show you all of the options you have on the table.

Pre-approved Auto Loan

Pre-approval of an auto loan always speeds up the process of buying your dream car. Contrary to this, the in-person car buying process can take up to days, if not weeks, as you have to find the exact car you want, spend precious time negotiating the price, and get quotations from the financial institutions.

For a pre-approval of an auto loan, the lender usually reviews your credit report thoroughly. This is done to determine the loan and interest rate you would have to pay over it with the type of installment plan you are willing to opt for. For this, you have to maintain a good credit score by paying your bills on time.

Another plus point for having a pre-approval loan letter is that you can then also leverage it by checking if any other company can provide an auto loan at a better rate than the pre-approved one.

Finding the Car Online

Once you have the pre-approved auto loan, you can easily search for the perfect car online. For this, various search engines are available online with the best options. Also, most of the dealerships have updated websites where you can check their inventory and the prices they offer.

With this, several dealerships provide their financing options for you as well. You can check their financing options as well to make a well-informed decision. This ensures that you have plenty of options online, taking into consideration that you are not experiencing an internet breakdown and looking out for an overview of internet problems.

Buy Your Car and Drive Away

By following the steps described above, you can easily find your dream car online and drive away in style. The most important step that you have to ensure is to get pre-approval for the auto loan, as it provides you with much more ease while finding the best car option that suits all your needs.

With a pre-approved loan, you don’t have any constant worry hanging on your head for any unexpected turn of events.

Non-Fungible Motors: You Can Now Get An NFT Of Your Car, So You Can Love It Long After It’s Gone

A new service has been launched by Scrap Car Comparison that gives car lovers the opportunity to get their hands on a one of a kind NFT of their prized motor, so they have the ultimate keepsake of their car which will last for eternity.

Partnering with NFT artist Amy Kilner to make the service possible, the UK-based scrap comparison company has opened up the opportunity to give anyone who’s said goodbye to their beloved car the chance to have it immortalised on the blockchain. Motorists simply need to register their interest on the Scrap Car Comparison website by Sunday 22nd May 2022.

We reminisce fondly about our first cars, the ones that gave us our independence and got us on the roads, and often had a lot of character too, but unfortunately, there’s always a time when we’ll have to say goodbye. While we’d previously wave our cars away as they got taken off into the distance, with only photos to help us take a drive down memory lane, this unique opportunity will give car lovers the virtual ownership rights, as well as the physical.

And so that potential owners have an idea of what their Non-Fungible Motor will look like, Scrap Car Comparison has created two examples inspired by two of the UK’s most driven (and scrapped) cars.

To gauge interest in the new service, one lucky car owner will be given a unique NFT of their car, with the opportunity for full personalisation – from pesky scratches that have gone un-repaired to missing hubcaps or other accessories such as stickers, personal registration plates, favourite air fresheners and more. The artwork will then be recorded on the blockchain, registered to its rightful owner forever – or at least until they decide to trade or sell.

Dan Gick, Managing Director of Scrap Car Comparison comments:

Thousands of cars go to the scrap heap each year, but more often than not, our customers are extremely sad to be saying goodbye to their cars. We’ve all sat around with a group of friends and swapped stories about our first cars, and often their quirks and niggles, but don’t always have photos of them to share. In many cases, people will also personalise their vehicles, either with personal registration plates and more expensive modifications, or smaller meaningful accessories that are significant to them. Although we may have photos, the essence of our favourite vehicles is something that has historically been hard to capture.

With this in mind, we want to try and bring car ownership into the digital age, by taking the step into NFTs and web3, and giving car fans their own piece of art that will be forever available for them to see online. It might not be for everyone, but we’re sure that some people would love to have their car with them virtually, as well as physically, so we’re very excited to offer this opportunity to the market!”

The Non-Fungible Motors service will initially be available to one lucky car owner, with the registration form open until 23:59 Sunday 22nd May 2022. To find out more and register interest in the service, visit: https://www.scrapcarcomparison.co.uk/blog/non-fungible-motors/

Driven to Distraction: Garmin Reveals What’s Really Taking Our Attention Off the Road. #RoadSafety

With attention turning to road safety this week, Garmin, which has a rich heritage in automotive products created with safety in mind, is taking the opportunity to highlight the profound impact of distraction on driving.

The Department for Transport reported that 117,536 accidents took place in 2019 (that’s 1 in every 326 cars on Britain’s roads). The main reasons for these include drivers failing to look properly (39.9%) and driving carelessly, recklessly or in a hurry (15.5%). With traffic increasing to pre-pandemic levels on the road, this Road Safety Week, Garmin and Emma Kenny want to draw attention to some of the biggest distractions to be aware of when driving and some tips to combat these.

Listening to loud music and changing radio stations
While it may be tempting to think music helps you concentrate; loud music is distracting. A research study discovered that loud music delayed people’s reaction times by 20%, Your favourite songs provoke a sense of nostalgia, which can result in daydreaming.

  • “Opt for soothing piano sounds and classical soundtracks. These have been proven to help produce a state of mental flow which will mean you are relaxed and focused,” said Kenny. “Travelling quietly will give you an important solitude that we rarely achieve in modern life. Use this space for mindful practice where you attend fully to the task at hand and allow yourself the gift of the present, a technique that reduces stress and anxiety and promotes a sense of wellbeing.”

Children in the car
We are hard-wired to both protect our children and attend to their needs. Even playing games on their smart technology introduces noise distraction.

  • “Encourage your children to use earphones with their digital devices and suggest they listen to audiobooks. This will relax them whilst engaging their brains in divergent thinking, which is excellent for their brains and for promoting a peaceful journey,” said Kenny. “Plan rewards for long journeys as this will help children focus on their behaviour positively. Agree on the reward before you set off, so you have a common goal in mind.”

Eating and drinking
A study by the University of Leeds found that when people consumed food while driving, their reaction time was 44% slower than normal. Concentrating on opening sandwiches or trying not to spill the coffee means you’re not fully concentrating on the road ahead.

  • “Factor in time during your journey to stop and enjoy your meal – perhaps even choosing a nice view or park to sit and unwind in while you eat.”

Rubber necking
This is a human trait associated with morbid curiosity. There are several distracting elements at play here – you and the drivers around you slowing down to look (which is dangerous on a busy road) and less people paying attention to the road ahead.

  • “When approaching a crash site, drive defensively. Be aware of your surroundings and assume other drivers will break the rules. If you must reduce speed, do so with awareness, use turn signals and be prepared to manoeuvre away from distracted drivers. The key is to concentrate on what you can control as opposed to what you cannot,” said Kenny.

Feeling disorganised

Feeling disorganised can impact our levels of distraction. Struggling to remember an address, locate a wallet, or having a sudden realisation that an important meeting has been forgotten is highly distracting.

  • “Plan, and prepare before you leave, as this will mean you feel in charge of your journey and at ease with how you are going to arrive at your destination. Execute the extra 15 rule where you leave 15 minutes earlier than you need so that you are not worried about being late and if you need a break you have factored these into your route. Also try writing a travel checklist list before you start your journey and tick these off before you start your engine” advised Kenny.

Mobile Phone Usage
Perhaps obvious, but still important to address. Phone use by drivers has been legally regulated for some time. But more surprising is the extent of their impact – to the point where a drunk driver is more aware of their surroundings than an individual taking a phone call.

  • “Complex phone conversations affect visual scanning and reduce a driver’s ability to detect, discriminate among and respond to visual targets by as much as 30 percent.”

Many of us use mobile phones in our cars for navigation, but having your phone set up on a mount puts potential distractions in plain view. By using a dedicated Sat Nav, like the Garmin Drive series, you will still be able to have your journey planned for you, but without the notifications. Features such as live traffic and weather, and alerts for sharp curves, speed changes and school zones also help to increase your awareness of what’s going on around you. And, with voice control, you don’t even need to look at your sat nav.

Discover the Garmin automotive range at https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/c/automotive and see how Sat Nav and Dash Cam products can remove a layer of distraction and help you concentrate on the most important job – getting to your destination safely.

Tech Review – Vantrue N4 dashcam

Dashcams are a must have and it is one thing every time I drill into peoples heads when I check out a new dashcam yet they ignore it and some I know have seen the bad side of this but then went on to purchase on later on when it was too late, it is never to late to own a dashcam and the N4 is one of the latest on offer from Vantrue, this is very similar to the N2S we did before and has no app support so it is the old fashioned way to get the information from it via cable and PC.

This is companies latest dash cam Vantrue N4. It is a 3-way triple car camera, comes with IR night vision, 24 hours parking mode.

The key features of N4:

  1. Three channel front inside rear dash cam
  2. Infrared night vision with Sony STARVIS.
  3. 24*7 Hours Parking Mode (collision detection parking mode+ motion detection parking mode)
  4. Super Capacitor instead of the lithium battery.
  5. Advanced technology balances in all areas of exposure, reduce a bright screen and enhance the darker videos.

Set Up

Setting up is simple and is similar to most dash cams on the market and if you have never done one that requires putting cable in the rear of your car the tools are in the box to do so it is not hard and a simple process and once put in place you are good to go and just leave it there and let it do its job, the rest then is done on the front main camera unit and we go through all this in the video review below..

What you get

The N4 offers 155° front camera, 165° inside camera and 160° rear camera to record front, inside cabin and road back simultaneously at 1440P+1080P+1080P at 30fps, which gives you all-round protection when you’re on the roads. Dual recording mode captures a crystal clear 2560x1440P in the front and 1920x1080P 30fps inside cabin or rear. The front camera can seamlessly record up to 1520p when use alone, enabling clear capturing of license plates and road signs.

Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor, a big F1.4 aperture 6-glass lens observing road front, F1.8 6-glass lens observing rear, this car camera is able to increase exposure automatically in dark situations for capture clear videos footage; 4 IR LED lights facing the car cabin, which can accurately capture the driver and passengers even when the cabin is completely dark, perfect for rideshare drivers such as Uber, Lyft and Taxi.

Who is this for

Everyone in short, the motorist in Ireland is shafted by cartel insurers and false claims and this is ideal to cover you from all angles front, rear and inside so there is no excuse not to have one and it is an investment too so if you do not have a dashcam get one now.

24 Hours Motion Detection or Collision Detection

With the energy saving motion detection parking mode, the dash cam will be on standby mode until motion is detected, the dash cam will wake up and get ready to record once detects movement in front. With collision detection, If an impact is detected when car dash cam is off, it will auto on to record the impact. The 3 channel dash cam always be connected to hardwire kit(buy extra ASIN B083XB8T7T) or external battery for parking mode.

Variable sensitivity G-sensor emergency lock videos to event folder following impact, loop recording auto overwrite the oldest file when card is full, auto LCD off avoid distracting, capable of housing up to 256GB of external memory(not in the box, recommend Vantrue sd card), firmware updates for continuous improvements and new features, optional GPS (need to buy separately B083XBS88L) to track route, location and speed.

Is it worth the money

Yes, it is a more expensive dashcam however you are covered from all angles here and it is a simple to use gadget and no smarts involved like an app here, most folk have just the front window dashcam this is much better and covers you full stop

See the video review for more below and the company sent us this to review with no compensation, editorial input and is seeing the review the same time as you..
