Transpoco’s 2025 Report Exposes Alarming Distracted Driving Trends in Ireland

Transpoco, one of Ireland’s leading fleet management solutions providers, today released its highly anticipated 2025 Distracted Driving Report, the first national survey of its kind, revealing that distraction behind the wheel is becoming one of the most significant road safety threats in Ireland.

The report, based on insights from over 1,000 drivers across all 26 counties, highlights the scale and impact of distracted driving, providing a stark reminder of the dangers facing Irish road users.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Frequent Risky Behaviour: 65% of drivers identified mobile phone use as the most distracting activity, while 45% admitted to experiencing near misses due to distraction.
  • Everyday Distractions: 73.1% adjust music, heating, or other vehicle settings while driving, and 41.3% eat or drink behind the wheel — showing that distractions extend beyond just phone use.
  • High-Risk Groups: Younger drivers (aged 25–34) are more confident but also more prone to risk, often underestimating the dangers of multitasking while driving.
  • Calls for Action: 51% of drivers support stricter enforcement to tackle the issue, and many are calling for simpler in-car technology and stronger workplace policies to reduce pressure on professional drivers.

“We’re at a critical point where distraction has become as dangerous as drink-driving, and the data clearly shows that urgent action is needed to protect lives,” said Jack Manning, CEO. “We need to simplify in-car technology, enforce stricter policies, and encourage safer driving habits to address this growing crisis.”

The report calls for a comprehensive approach to tackling distraction, including tougher penalties, smarter vehicle design, and better workplace support for commercial drivers.

Be vigilant with your new mobile phone, mobile phone theft is up. #mobiletheft #ireland

As christmas is approaching a new mobile phone is one of the top gifts this time of year.

We like our phones and they are part of our lives now and most cant live without them, these phones can range from cheap entry level models to high end expensive ones, and we would not like to loose them so here is some news and tips.

Over 12,000 mobile phones worth €5million have been stolen in the past year, Gardai have revealed.

New stats show that the number of stolen phones, the majority of which are smart phones, has increased by a third.

Gardai released the figures to highlight Crime Prevention Day of Action, which is promoting how people can avoid having their phone stolen.

Sgt Alan Roughneen, of the National Crime Prevention Unit, said: “Mobile phone theft is on the rise as gangs target high-value smart phones.

“These are expensive items and people should take the same care of them as they would any item that costs up to €500 and more.

“Smart phone owners need to be more vigilant, particularly when we are coming into a time of the year when they are more likely to be out socialising.

“All too often we see smart phones worth hundreds of euro being left out on tables in bars, nightclubs, café or restaurant tables while people chat and this makes it very easy for criminals to simply walk past and steal them.

To combat phone theft, Gardai recommend:

  • Register phone with service provider
  • Take note of unique IMEI number on mobile and store in location other than your phone. This number can be used to disable phone if it’s stolen
  • Enable PIN security feature and keep phone locked at all times
  • When out and about, keep phone out of public view
  • Never leave your phone behind in an unattended vehicle
  • Property mark your phone with unique letters or numbers
  • Avoid making calls or texting while crossing the road
  • If you have a smart phone, consider downloading a location finder App
  • If making or receiving a call in public, always do so with your back up against the wall or a shop window etc so that you can see around you and reduce the opportunity to be attacked from behind
  • If your phone is lost or stolen, immediately report it to An Garda Síochána and contact your Service Provider with your IMEI in order to have your number blocked

Nokia fan from slovakia @RusnakCOBRA talks to Nokia News Ireland #nokia #ireland

Nokia fan Peter Chomanic is a nokia fan and seen my collection on nokia connects and we got chatting via twitter and email.
He wanted to tell us his story so here it is.
Q1- Hi your a man of many talents, tell us about who you are and what you do.
– I’m mostly a support guy, so I’m working as a server support for one of major players on that market. Aside of that, I’m a huge mobile fan (unfortunately, had no luck to work for Nokia), so from time to time I’m reviewing phones, testing apps, repairing phones for me & friends, collecting phones, sometimes modding some parts of Symbian, MeeGo e.g.: one of alphanumeric keyboards is mine, same as “CzechoSlovak edit of N9’s keyboard.
Q2- You are a nokia fan, what is your current daily driver.
– I’m using N9 (too afraid to use N950 as my daily phone) and I really love MeeGo OS and I have 2 more of them, as the first one is almost completely damaged now. Secondary phone is a BlackBerry Z10, as its OS is currently the closest to MeeGo (you know, swipes, no buttons…). Not fully satisfied with that. The third phones is curretnly being reviewed, it’s a Nokia Lumia 925. Used it to make some really good pictures on SAAB car meeting in Slovakia (https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/107175620946963824496/albums/5933961450698254625) and some trips in local forests (https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/107175620946963824496/albums/5939543106473240769). Well, Windows Phone in version 8 + GDR3 (developer update) is fine, but still, if that phone had MeeGo, I’d love it much much more 🙂
Q3-Your a blogger, tell us some more about your blog
– I was active on many forums about mobile phones, especially about Symbian, later Maemo & MeeGo, but I finally landed on Symbianmania, later renamed to SmartMobil.sk (http://smartmobil.sk) as we added all systems to it. We also started a blog there, publishing some news, guides (e.g. how to downgrade your Symbian phone), some App tis, phone reviews… Simply a voluntary work & support of smartphone users.
Q4- You claim to have alot of nokia devices, tell us about your collection.
– Well, I had few my older phones, I was given some from my friends and family too (as everyone knows how passionate I am about phones), some people donated some too when were grateful for my help on forums, so I started to collect them. Currently, I have 2138 phones in my collection, 820 various models. Nokia, of course, is the biggest part of my collection: 648 phones, 191 models. My dream is to make a Mobile Phones Museum (facebook.com/MuzeumMobilovtwitter.com/MuzeumMobilov), where you can go, see old phones in working condition and remember the the times when you lived with them, or wanted to have some of them. You know, now, most of the phones I ever wanted to have are cheap enough 🙂 I can have all the “toys”
Impressive collection there.
Thanks for requesting us to share your story and show us our collection peter.
