Ireland Well Placed to Influence AI EU Innovation

European Movement Ireland and Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS) UK and Ireland hosted ‘Artificial Intelligence – How will Europe Innovate?’ The event explored the challenges and opportunities ahead for AI innovation, political leadership and the future development of AI across Europe, as the European Union sets out its ambitious agenda to become a global leader in AI.

The EU AI act, which forms part of this vision, is the world’s first act to regulate the use of AI globally. In force since 2024, with some exemptions for high-risk AI until 2027, the EU AI Act will be fully applicable from 2026, coinciding with Ireland’s Presidency of the European Council. Given the presence of multinational tech companies, and leading research institutions in the country, Ireland is well positioned to influence how AI is advanced across the bloc into the future.

Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on EU Affairs, Barry Ward TD said: “As Europe takes bold steps toward responsible AI innovation, today’s discussion underscores the need for political leadership that is both visionary and grounded in our shared values. With Ireland preparing to take on the Presidency of the European Council in 2026, along with our thriving tech sector and academic excellence, we are uniquely placed to help lead this conversation and ensure AI development in Europe is ethical, innovative, and inclusive.”

Noelle O Connell, CEO European Movement Ireland said; “As the global race continues for leadership in AI, I am delighted to hear the statement from Minister Smyth, welcome Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on EU Affairs Barry Ward TD, and listen to the insights from the expert panel today on AI innovation, as it increasingly shapes all aspects of our daily lives and influences decision making.

We are at a pivotal time when trust in institutions is falling, as revealed by EM Ireland’s EU Poll 2025, a majority stated (40%) they do not trust any institution and less than one in three (30%) expressed trust in the EU in Ireland. As the EU seeks to be bold in its vision for AI, it must ensure developments in AI work to serve the public good, and do not erode trust into the future.”

The Minister for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Niamh Smyth TD appeared prior to the discussion with a short video statement. The expert panel was moderated by Noelle O Connell and included Barry Ward TD, Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs, Stephanie Anderson, Public Policy Manager, Meta, Dr. Eamonn Cahill, Principal Officer, AI and Digital Regulation Unit, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Kai Zenner of Office and Digital Policy Adviser for MEP Axel Voss.

Dr. Canan Atilgan, Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS) UK and Ireland said; “The EU aims to become a global leader in AI and has unveiled an ambitious Action Plan — a bold strategy designed not merely to compete, but to lead ethically, with a clear, human-centred vision.”

Artificial Intelligence – How Will Europe Innovate? brought citizens, businesses, and policymakers together to explore the themes of the future of AI, and the regulation of AI in practice. The hashtag #EMIKAS and the handles @KAS_UKIRL and @emireland were used during the event.

Majority Naga 60 2.1 Bluetooth Soundbar Review

The Majority Naga 60 2.1 Bluetooth Soundbar is and ideal piece for kit to enhance your audio experience at home be it for your PC?Laptop and of course a must your TV.

This soundbar is not huge either and can be placed anywhere and with included wall mounted brackets inside this can be wall mounted if you wish to so so for me it is not the case and on the locker where my  TV sits and I get away from it all and turn things up to the max and when you do with this soundbar connected it changes to mood rather swiftly and enhances anything you might be listening to or watching.

With a nice neat remote control you are in control of how this works and what sound to deliver including 3D which turns things up another notch.

There is a small display in behind the front grille of the speaker which you can see and an array of buttons up top of the speaker and on the rear is your I/Os that includes HDMI Arc, aux, optical and USB so you can be sure of multi option connectivity and Bluetooth.

There is end cap tweeters 2X speaker drivers and 1 sub woofer all built in to this compact soundbar which has EQ controls on board to get the perfect sound for you and sit back and enjoy the capabilities on offer.

Coimisiún na Meán awards the Central Bank of Ireland with first Trusted Flagger Status in Ireland

Coimisiún na Meán, has announced the decision to grant Trusted Flagger status to the Central Bank of Ireland. Under the Digital Services Act (DSA), Coimisiún na Meán as the Digital Services Coordinator in Ireland has the power to award Trusted Flagger status to entities established in Ireland who meet certain conditions.

Trusted Flaggers are empowered to identify, detect and notify illegal content within their area of expertise to online platforms. Providers of online platforms are then legally obliged to ensure that notices of the presence of illegal content, reported by Trusted Flaggers are given priority and decided upon without undue delay.

Speaking about the announcement, Digital Services Commissioner, John Evans said: “Coimisiún na Meán is committed to ensuring a media landscape that consumers can trust, and where they are protected from exploitation and fraud. We recognise that financial scams and fraud are a concern to the Irish public, and we welcome the Central Bank of Ireland’s expertise in this area. By granting the Central Bank of Ireland Trusted Flagger Status, we are legally obliging online platforms to ensure that any illegal online content reported by the Central Bank of Ireland, such as financial scams and fraud are prioritised by the platform and dealt with in a timely manner.”

“The Trusted Flagger status is a new statutory mechanism that offers empowerment for organisations by placing obligations on the platforms to give priority to Trusted Flagger notifications. Entities awarded Trusted Flagger status are recognised as such across the EU. Trusted Flaggers will also feed into Coimisiún na Meán’s identification of trends and issues via annual reports which will be instrumental in establishing an informed, evidence-based approach to our platform supervisory activities.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel Makhlouf, Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, said: “The Central Bank of Ireland is delighted to be the first organisation in the country to be granted Trusted Flagger Status by Coimisiún na Meán. This accreditation marks another milestone in the Bank’s commitment to protecting consumers and strengthens our efforts to disrupt the activities of unauthorised providers of regulated financial services. We look forward to continuing our work to strengthen the framework of consumer protection in Ireland through this new status.”

Under Article 22 of the DSA, Trusted Flagger status can be granted to entities who meet the following conditions:

• It has particular expertise and competence for the purposes of detecting, identifying and notifying illegal content;

• It is independent from any provider of online platforms;

• It carries out its activities for the purposes of submitting notices diligently, accurately and objectively.

The Central Bank of Ireland have been granted the Trusted Flagger status for three years, from 2 April 2025 to 2 April 2028. Their designated area of expertise is financial scams and fraud, including the provision and/or offer of financial services without authorisation. Upon the expiry of the accreditation period the Trusted Flagger status is reassessed and, where appropriate, re-granted.

Further information on the role of Trusted Flaggers and the obligations of online platforms in respect of notices issued by Trusted Flaggers can be found on our dedicated Trusted Flaggers page on the website.

ROSESELSA EARFREE-i5 Earbuds Hybrid ANC Headphones Review

The ROSESELSA EARFREE-i5 TWS Earbuds Hybrid ANC Headphones are the latest earbuds to cross my desk and for it being a first from the company and looking at the specs on the box alone.

Presentation here is excellent and a great first impression for any brand in my opinion and what you get in the box is also a good start with extras on board they have hit the right notes here.

The Design is a standard affair however the case they come in is a different story it is not a cheap plastic case but a CNC machine finished case that feels premium all round and will protect the earbuds should you drop them.

The fit is great and will not out of ears once the right tips are applied and this is something you should always check regardless and you can also purchase Super NC 200 Memory foam ear tips if you wish though I find the supplied tips just fine after testing for a good period of time.

The sound is the important bit here and it is excellent better than expected to from a new brand here and really impressive with highs lows and mids their EQ app lets you pick the best settings for you and there is gamer mode too so these are for everyone and the volume level is decently loud which is how I like it but I would suggest you go through all the settings and EQs yourself to get the right sound profile for you and you will find it, the controls also work well here to and can be customized to your own taste.

You can pair two devices too with up to 50 hours of battery life and fast charge which for someone like me and many out there who use a phone and laptop all day which is a seamless transfer from one to the other and perfectly suits my needs, and as for the ANC this again is up there with more expensive earbuds out there and will keep you free from outdoor and noise distractions whilst taking in the audio these earbuds offer which is one of the best I have seen at this price.

Check the video below for more and see what you get here with the earbuds and their app it is quite good and something you should put on your list if you are in the market for new earbuds, long is the day now you need to spend over 150-200 quid on them..

Sunseeker X5 Wireless Robotic Mower Review

The Sunseeker X5 is a wireless robotic mower for lawns up to 2000 sqm. It uses AONaviTM Positioning and Navigation System which uses Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) satellite positioning technology and VSLAM visual navigation. All that ensures accurate boundary setting and work routes regardless of obstacles or the unique shape of your lawn.

Equipped with two 3D binocular camera Vision AI System excels in perceiving the surrounding environment and navigating obstacles seamlessly. Supported by our proprietary deep learning algorithms, it consistently enhances its comprehension of landscapes through continuous data accumulation.

This all-wheel-drive model offers an exceptional 60% climbing ability, making it perfect for even the most challenging garden environments and we have been testing this out over the last few weeks when the right weather was available and this has all the bells and whistles.

My back garden is not flat either which gave this its own challenges and worked a treat in the end and even when mapping the garden obsticals where put in the way to test out the 3D binocular camera vision and again it was a piece of cake and getting the job done with and without the obstacles in the way, you can map several parts of your garden to your desire and create work schedules and more within the app which is pretty simple to use overall and you can see all this in the full video review below.

The set-up takes a few minutes I would suggest you put the antenna nearer your router for better signal and Bluetooth sometimes seemed to disconnect within a short range at time especially when mapping the mower however after some app updates which I had three of during my testing periods this seemed to cleared so be sure to get the latest app version, the app was tried on both Android and iOS devices for a clearer picture as we do with all out tech as sometimes there is some slight variants.

Once set up you can choose to move the Sunseeker by yourself via the remote control on your phone via the app or let it go and work by itself and fear not anything that does get in the way purposely will be avoided same as anything recorded in the mapping, you can set boundaries too and basically design your own layout if you have the room to do so as for the basic cut this is a breeze for the Sunseeker X5.

There is plenty of protection on the mower too with bumpers up front all really good suspension and of course it is all wheel drive and it not loud either as you will see in the video below compared to the standard mower which annoys most people especially those who do it early in the morning time which is a pet hate of mine and this will  not annoy your neighbours when it is your turn and gently flows around your garden and is fun to watch. The only obvious caveat is there is no bucket to catch the grass but hey this does the rest for you.
