HERE kicks off Public Beta program to test “Contextual Menu” feature on #Android by @Tiwaash #Beta #Navigation

Want to join hands with HERE in improving the already good navigation app the best?? Well then here is your chance. Starting today HERE is kicking off their public Beta program open to check the latest features and give them feedback for Android users.

HERE wants feedback from users on ‘contextual menu’ feature; a single, long-press anywhere on the map brings up a shortcut menu to quickly see location information, share a location, get directions or start drive navigation. That is super cool. What are you waiting for? If you own an Android device running Android 4.1 and above and has at least 1 GB of RAM, follow the insurrections below and you are good to go.

Steps to Sign up

1) Join the HERE Beta Program Google group.

2) Visit this link on your mobile device and click on Become a Tester. Please note, you must join the HERE Beta Program group first (from step 1) before you can become a tester.

3) Open the Play Store app on your mobile device and install or update the HERE app with the beta version by choosing Update or Install.

4) Use the app as you normally would and tell us what you think or report problems using the Feedback option in the HERE menu of the app or email us directly at beta@here.com.

HERE makes it to the AppStore by @Tiwaash #iOS #HERE #Navigation

HERE has been working tirelessly to offer it’s free offline navigation service to lots of people. In this quest to ease people’s lives, today HERE has take a giant leap forward by rolling out HERE for iOS. It was expected that iOS version of HERE was around the corner ever since the Android version was launched. Screenshot_2015-03-12-01-03-38~2 iOS version of HERE combines saved maps with online information — such as live traffic, scheduled or real-time public transit info as well as photos and reviews for the places shown on the map. You can save maps to your phone so that the whole HERE app can be put into ‘offline mode’ and it won’t use any data. Even if your iPhone is in flight mode, you can still see where you are, search for places and navigate there on foot, by public transport or by car. The all-inclusive route planner on HERE for iOS allows you to compare walking, transit and driving directions including an estimate of how long each will take you – and all of this can be done in ‘offline mode’ too. The offline car navigation on HERE for iOS provides full turn-by-turn voice guidance with spoken street names. HERE for iOS is a completely different app from the one previously available on the App Store – because the old version was based on HTML5, it had limited features and it wasn’t optimized for iOS. This time we’re introducing an experience built for iOS from the ground up with the features and the polished feel that people rightly expect from their favourite map app.

HERE now Available to more Android Phones than Just Galaxy by @Tiwaash

Recently we heard that HERE maps were made available to Android running Samsung Galaxy Smartphones and today this offline map & navigation service has been made available to more Android users than just Galaxy users.

On the website HERE writes ” Recently, we launched HERE for Android on Samsung Galaxy Smartphones. And now, due to popular demand, we’re making HERE for Android immediately avaialble for everyone with a compatible smartphone”. By compatible smartphone they mean any device running Android 4.1 (Jellybean) or greater and with at least 1 GB of RAM for smooth functioning.

User Interface:

HERE for Android has a beautiful UI, clean and sleek as always. It works smooth and accurately on my Google Nexus 7. Scrolling through the map is easy with just small icons on all the corners for dedicated job.

Unlike WindowsPhone the HERE Maps & HERE Drive apps are integrated in one & can be accessed through a drop down menu from the top left corner. It’s easy to switch between maps & drive.

With just simple taps it is possible to switch the view from map to satellite and also the map details to show the transport or traffic status. The USP of HERE has been the feature to use both Maps & Drive offline and it does carry the same legacy to Android too providing the option to download and use maps offline.

Searching for places has always been very easy with categories on HERE and it’s available on Android too (this doesn’t feel Beta version, works fine). I like the interface to conclude, everything is easy to pick and nicely laid out.

How to get HERE for Android?

HERE is currently in Beta and isn’t available on Play Store for download. You can download HERE for non Galaxy phones from here & side load it to run on your device. Make sure under settings, “Allow installation of apps from other sources other than the Play Store” is ticked before you start installing.

Features:

– Offline navigation: Interactive maps and turn-by-turn voice guidance even without an internet connection.
– Maps to download and to use offline for nearly 100 countries.
– Public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities in over 40 countries, also when offline.
– Live traffic info for more than 40 countries.

– Personalise map by creating Collections of favourite places.
– Share location with family and friends in real time via Glympse.

Before I conclude, to use this service, you should create a new account, your pervious Nokia Account won’t work with this.

HERE maps Beta for Android. #Maps #HERE by @jimboireland Get it free today. #TechBuzzIreland

HERE maps is a well known mapping service and it does come preinstalled on some of the latest Samsung devices running 4.0 or higher ,we have given it a quick test on our One Plus one and so far its been impressive,we have been using HERE maps on Windows Phone for  a long time now too and again its as equally impressive.

When you download HERE maps you will get the typical icon to add to your homescreen,(Header image) and with your location switched on it pics up your location very quick..

You can then chose between different views such as Traffic,Transport and satellite..

You need to be logged in to get the full features and of course any maps downloaded can be viewed offline saving you money without having to connect to your data.

HERE maps also gives you all the regular features of most mapping services such as Motorways,Tolls and Ferries as seen below..

HERE maps is very easy to use and of course comes with the DRIVE feature too, same again as windows phone users would be used to..

You can also collect your information and of course share it using email or social networks for example. You will also be given information where possible on your searches which is pretty good.

The benefits of HERE are layered maps, free voice guided navigation and free offline maps, you must be logged in to avail of this feature but those who have used HERE on Windows Phone will be able to use this without hassle.

HOW TO GET HERE apk free 35.5 MB in size..

On your android device you will need to allow unknown sources,to do this go to SETTINGS – SECURITY – UNKNOWN SOURCES and tick the box..

Then download the HERE APK from your device directly..

Enjoy.

Nokia and Samsung join forces to bring HERE maps to Android.#HERE #Maps

If you have not used HERE maps and stick to Google maps you do not know what you are missing,as a user of both i find them both great to be honest but HERE has the edge, often  i would try out the both services and compare them and HERE offers a smooth experience for users and of course off-line as you can save your maps data to your device.

HERE for Android is a free app with fresh maps that truly keeps working even without an Internet connection: your location will be still found via GPS, and browsing the map, searching for places and offline navigation will also keep working, even if you’re not connected.

Forget cumbersome caching of small areas and enjoy the possibility of downloading entire countries or regions.

Can’t search for places or plan routes with your other map when Internet coverage is spotty or unavailable? No worries, HERE has you covered with full map functionality available offline, like when you’re underground or in rural areas.

Keeping your maps stored on your device also means that they are super fast. Because they’re instantly available, you can pan them, rotate them and zoom in and out without any lag. HERE will be the maps app you can always rely on.

When you search for a place with HERE, you’ll have the option to drive, walk or take public transport to get there. You can adjust options to get the best route according to your taste. If you want to take a car, for instance, you can exclude toll roads and you get up to 3 different route alternatives.
