Gaming Trends: What should we be able to see throughout the industry in 2024 and beyond?

With technology continuing to have an impact on the way players game and the sessions that they are able to experience, there should not be any surprise that the industry is still looking to create new ways in which this form of entertainment is enjoyed.

Various technologies have been created over the years that have each managed to enhance any gaming session that generations of gamers have enjoyed, but developers know that it is an unforgiving industry as demands continue to be made.

Among those is the desire for immersive and realistic experiences. For many enthusiasts, there would be nothing better than to feel as though they are part of the title that is being played. While there have been advancements and strides made to make this happen, it is yet to be made available fully.

However, that should start to change in the near future, especially if technology continues to do its thing and create new ways in which we game and enhance any session that we enjoy to new heights.

What trends can we expect to see in 2024 and beyond?

Gaming technology continues to develop at an incredible rate; however, gamers know there are already technologies they can take advantage of and expect improvements over the course of a year or longer.

Mobile gaming has experienced tremendous growth over recent decades since smartphones and tablets came onto the scene, giving gamers access to apps or web browsers on mobile phones to download or access and enjoy their favorite titles while on the go with an internet connection.

5G internet continues to be advanced and further developed, meaning players will get better gaming sessions when connected to the internet. This should result in better experiences when playing mobile internet games, whether that be in the form of downloaded titles or the iGaming options that have been provided by a platform with an expert opinion on the sites that are available.

Elsewhere, we should expect to see drastic changes be made to the realism demands that gamers continue to have. This includes reality technologies, including virtual and augmented. These have been spoken about for years, and we should be getting even closer to being able to experience these more so in the years to come. These technologies promise the potential of taking the gaming industry to its newest heights and giving gamers something they have craved.

Cross-platform gaming should also continue to emerge and become more developed throughout the industry in the near future. There have been big games to already contain this feature, but with players likely to demand it as a standardized function in the future, game developers are likely to incorporate it within their newest releases to ensure they satisfy consumer demands.

Verdict

There is certainly a lot to look forward to in 2024 and beyond for gaming enthusiasts. Technology has long been a driving force for the industry, and it always will be. Most of these technologies are already available, but the years to come should allow them to finally realize and reach their potential, thus benefiting gamers all over the world.

EA SPORTS FC™ 24 Takes In-Game Realism to the Next Level
EA SPORTS has changed the way people play and enjoy football, and new, cutting-edge technologies will see EA SPORTS FC™ 24 deliver unparalleled realism in every match. EA SPORTS FC™ 24 will include:

  • HyperMotionV* is our biggest leap forward in realism to-date, translating the rhythm and fluidity of real-world football into The World’s Game using volumetric data from more than 180 professional men’s and women’s football matches that allows us to reflect real-world movement in-game more than ever before.
  • PlayStyles optimised by Opta dimensionalises athletes, going beyond overall ratings to bring to life the on-pitch abilities that make players special. Each PlayStyle gives players unique capabilities you’ll see and feel that make their way of playing more authentic.
  • An enhanced Frostbite™ Engine delivers The World’s Game in lifelike detail, bringing a new level of immersion through redesigned player models, smoother animations and visibly unique characteristics that make each player special. Kits now move like real-world materials, reacting to a player’s stride, shifting as they change direction, and flowing along with them as they play.

EA SPORTS FC launches on mobile

Today, Electronics Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) celebrates the launch of EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile, marking a new beginning for the future of football on mobile platforms. EA SPORTS FC Mobile is available now to download on the App Store and Play Store across iOS and Android devices. For the existing mobile community of 100M+ active users, EA SPORTS FC Mobile will be available as a free update without need to redownload to devices.

EA SPORTS FC Mobile provides an unrivaled authentic football experience on mobile devices and features more than 15,000 fully licensed players across over 650 teams and over 30 leagues – including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, LALIGA EA SPORTS, Bundesliga, and many more. True Player Personality is at the core of bringing this authenticity to life in-game, reflecting player characteristics with distinct strengths and weaknesses that diversify gameplay and team building.

“As we enter this new era with EA SPORTS FC, we are intent on meeting our global player community where they are to deliver on player choice and create the most immersive and authentic football experiences available,” said Nick Wlodyka, SVP & GM, EA SPORTS FC. “EA SPORTS FC Mobile is key to unlocking a new level of engagement to enrich the FC ecosystem for our players and continue our path into a fan-first future.”

Mobile Gameplay with High Impact and Speed

Bringing balance to pace and dribbling, Dynamic Game Speed manifests itself into a composed, mobile-friendly gameplay, providing players with more time on the ball to make decisions and diversify build-up play style. With the Elite Shooting System, shot types are crafted to feel unique and rewarding, each having their own character and purpose to put players in a position to score.

EA SPORTS FC Mobile introduces a new level of immersion to command the pitch with new Impact Controls, focused across three areas:

  • Power Shot: The Power Shot is the fastest shot type in the game, but comes with a risk vs reward mechanic. The animation length of a Power Shot is much longer than a regular shot and puts the player at risk to be tackled during the shot wind-up. Successfully unleashing a Power Shot not only looks great, but is immensely satisfying to score.
  • Hard Tackle: Hard Tackles are a powerful and far-lunging stand tackle, allowing players to crush attackers or make a last second shot block. Defenders can perform faster and more powerful tackles with Hard Tackle.
  • Knock On: Unlock full speed while dribbling and break away from defenders or create space to step into a shot. Knock On and also the newly added Hard Stop have been added to FC Mobile as Team Skill Moves, which allows for customization of the swipe direction control as desired.

“By honing in on what makes mobile gameplay special with our refined controls, we’ve created a football experience that’s approachable to all players and skill levels,” said Lawrence Koh, VP, EA SPORTS FC MOBILE. “With True Player Personality bringing authentic player characteristics in-game, we encourage our own community of players to discover their own style of play and celebrate the joy of glory alongside their favorite football stars.”

Experience the UEFA Champions League

Enjoy an authentic experience with the new UEFA Champions League Tournament mode. Take control of one of the qualified clubs, play to come out on top of the Group Stage, advance through the Knockout Phase, and compete to lift the trophy in the Final!

A New Look and Feel

An immersive matchday experience in EA SPORTS FC Mobile will bring the player community closer to The World’s Game than ever before with new visual and audio updates, including an all-new broadcast experience with match intro scenes and a wide camera that replicates the stadium atmosphere. A whole host of new set piece camera options, paired with enhanced audio featuring dynamic commentary and team-specific chants, will make key moments on the pitch come alive.

The Locker Room will also offer more options for fans to customize their team and players to fit their preferred style. Options will include adjusting their star players’ kit numbers and kit appearance including the length of their socks, sleeve length, and shirt tucking style. Elsewhere, in Club Identity, fans can add their own personal touch in Ultimate Team with their choice of Club Crest, User Logo, Ball, and Emotes.

The entire user interface has also been reworked to reflect the EA SPORTS FC Mobile brand. From background imagery to animations, icons, and fonts, the visual journey will feel fresh and modern as players build excitement before they take to the pitch.

Esports & Gaming Federation of Ireland and Northern Ireland Esports Join Together

A strategic alignment between Northern Ireland Esports and the Esports & Gaming Federation of Ireland signals a bright future for esports players on the island of Ireland. The new entity will operate under ‘Ireland Esports’ represented by a new combined logo.

Going forward both entities will now operate as one registered not-for-profit organisation. The combined all-Ireland entity, respecting all communities, has the common goal to empower talent and provide pathways to compete on the international stage.  The alignment will share resources, facilitate education and develop domestic tournament initiatives over time.

Ireland Esports will be a member of the Global Esports Federation (GEF), the International Esports Federation (IeSF) and is committed to retain its existing close alignment with the British Esports Federation, Esports Scotland and Esports Wales.

Speaking at the announcement, Chair of Ireland Esports Steve Daly said, ‘The need to support pathways for esports athletes to compete on the international stage continues to evolve at pace. By adopting an all-Ireland approach, as has been seen in community and education initiatives as well as traditional sports and sporting federations, this strategic alignment is a significant step forward’.

‘Both entities have been successfully working together for the past 12 months and have achieved so much. Bringing them together in a more formal fashion will help accelerate opportunities for esports talent and implement professional structures successfully. Much of this hard work was seen earlier this summer as we travelled to the European Games Esports Championships to showcase the talent we have discovered on the island of Ireland’ said Michael Smyth, Ireland Esports board member, who has acted as Team Manager for both Esports NI and Ireland Esports over the last 12 months.

Athletes from Northern Ireland will have the option of participating for Ireland Esports or for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for international events, as is the case within the Olympic movement.

The Ireland Esports logo takes inspiration from the existing NI Esports stag logo.  The Irish stag has been a symbol, dating back centuries in Irish folklore, representing strength, power, courage, and maturity. The stag is combined with a modern interpretation of Ireland’s symbolic Shamrock motif.  The mission statement for the new entity is ‘To manage and enhance the performance of Team Ireland at international competitive tournaments whilst developing domestic competitive and educational pathways”

The hub, the first of its kind at a third-level institute in Ireland, is located in SETU Waterford, the first third-level institute in Ireland to launch an esports scholarship. Synonymous with esports and gaming throughout the world, Red Bull has long since been a pioneer in the industry, supporting esport athletes and student gaming tournaments across the world.

This latest initiative represents Red Bull’s most significant esports venture in Ireland as the brand expands its footprint on the Irish gaming scene. The Hub will also host national gaming tournaments, interactive workshops and live stream events, while Irish gamers will also have the opportunity to qualify for global esports tournaments via events hosted in the Red Bull Gaming Hub.

We are now delighted to further set the standard in the Irish third-level sector by opening our new Esports Gaming Hub. Our goal with this is to create a sports community where all students, current and future, who participate in Esports can receive the same support and facilities as all our sports teams. We would like to recognise that without the guidance and support of everyone at SETU, Esports Ireland, Collegiate Esports, and Red Bull, this vision would not have been possible.”

The hub is kitted out with a casual gaming area equipped with Xbox consoles, an immersive sound system and comfortable gaming bean bags. The facility also includes a chill-out area where students can bring their own laptops, connect to the high-speed network and work on their own creative projects with a cold can of Red Bull in hand. A unique custom-made 10-sided gaming table sits at the centre of the hub and allows for 5v5 gaming sessions on top-of-the-range gaming PCs.

Four outstanding partners have come on board, helping to bring the latest and greatest hardware to gamers. Intel NUC, SteelSeries, AGON by AOC and Backforce have worked with Red Bull to bring this unique gaming facility to life.
