Bleeper Launches LeaseBike Service in Dublin

Dubliners can now get their hands on an e-bike for just €19.99 per week thanks to a new service launched by Bleeper.

LeaseBike is a subscription e-bike service which provides users with their very own e-bike, lock and charger. Unlike Bleeper’s shared public bikes, LeaseBike users keep their e-bike all the time – so it’s just like owning a bike, but without the hassle.

The weekly subscription fee also covers any maintenance or repairs, such as punctures, meaning that you never have to worry about your bike letting you down.

Subscription bike services have been growing in popularity on the European continent in recent years and the new €19.99 service from LeaseBike puts Dublin on a par with other major European cities.

“We have two e-bike models available for €19.99 per week,” says Bleeper founder and CEO Hugh Cooney. “These are city ebikes, ideal for someone who commutes in and out of the city centre. These e-bikes have a great battery range and a powerful motor, so they’ll even suit people living in the foothills of the Dublin mountains!”

Repair or Replace

One of the major benefits of LeaseBike is that the repair or replacement of your e-bike is built into the weekly subscription fee.

If something goes wrong with your LeaseBike, Bleeper will either repair or replace your e-bike at its city centre workshop at no additional cost.

“Nobody wants to lose the use of their bike for a few days while it’s being repaired,” says Cooney,” so with LeaseBike you will receive a replacement e-bike to keep you on the road.”

“E-bike ownership has increased dramatically in recent years, but cost is still a barrier for a lot of people. LeaseBike eliminates the upfront cost of buying an ebike and will give more people the opportunity to use an ebike for their daily trips.”

Thousands of primary school children to descend on RDS for ESB Science Blast from tomorrow

Thousands of primary school children will head to the RDS in Dublin over the coming days for ESB Science Blast. ESB Science Blast, delivered by the RDS, is a STEM-focused education programme involving whole classes investigating the science behind a simple question, such as “how will climate change affect baby sharks?”.

ESB Science Blast will take place in Dublin in RDS Simmonscourt for four days, starting tomorrow, Monday 27th February, finishing with a lá speisialta do Ghaelscoileanna agus do scoileanna Ghaeltachta taking place on 2ú Márta, 2023. Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD, will be at the event at 12.30pm Tuesday, 28th February.

The event starts at 8.30am each day.

Pupils from each class participating will showcase their experiment and discuss their investigation with a STEM expert (Judge/Moltóir). The judging is non-competitive and aimed at growing pupils’ interest and passion for STEM. Now in its fifth year, over 35,000 children have participated in ESB Science Blast to date, making it the largest primary school programme on the island of Ireland.

TEKenable Downsizes its Office due to Success of Remote Working

TEKenable, the digital services company is moving to a smaller office as a result of the success of remote working.  The company has doubled in the last five years and regularly surveys employees about the culture of the organisation and to ask them about their preferred working model.  TEKenable currently employs over 160 staff and the company continues to grow.

“Prior to the pandemic, 50% of our workforce was already remote across our offices in the UK, Ireland, Hungary, Spain, UAE and the Middle East so many of our teams were set up for the format and flexible schedules were the norm”, explains Nick Connors, Group CEO, TEKenable.  “When the pandemic hit, technology was not a problem and the transition for the entire company proved so seamless that we were ready to change course and gave our employees the choice of in-house or remote working.  Remote working won out and our teams are functioning more efficiently than ever before.  It has become increasingly clear that our employees are happiest and did their best work when they had the flexibility to determine where and when they work best.”

“The requirement for attending an office was constraining growth by requiring recruitment from a specific geographic area and with Dublin in particular which meant dealing with the lack of housing or extended commute times,” adds Peter Rose, Group CTO, TEKenable.  “The biggest advantage is access to talent in places where we do not have offices and the benefit that brings.”

In the recent Great Place to Work assessment, TEKenable was recognised as the 15th Best Medium Workplace in Ireland 2023.  This is TEKenable’s first year to be named as a top Irish workplace which is based on direct feedback from employees.

“We as a company really value diversity and a people-first culture,” concludes Nick. “Our values are a part of that foundation, and things like having trust in your employees and knowing that they will make decisions that are the best balance for their life and job maximising both is part of that.”

The new, smaller office will be used as ‘conversation space’ for meetings, collaboration and events.

Netskope expands presence in Ireland with new Dublin data centre

Netskope, the SASE leader, today announced an extension of its NewEdge network with the opening of a new data centre in Dublin, Ireland. Serving millions of enterprise users around the world, and with full-compute data centres in more than 60 regions worldwide, NewEdge is the world’s largest, and highest-performing security private cloud. NewEdge powers the real-time, inline security services of the Netskope SASE platform allowing security to be deployed at the edge where and when it’s needed.

Placing data-centric security as close to the user as possible is a key requirement of a SASE-ready architecture, and the delivery of world-class Security Service Edge (SSE) and software defined networking (SD-WAN) capabilities. As well as improving the experience for Netskope’s local customers, the new data centre in Dublin is a strategic investment for the company given Ireland’s unique position in the data landscape with access to the EU market and close proximity to trans-atlantic internet cables. With companies increasingly demanding choice over where and how their data is processed, having a presence in Ireland gives Netskope’s NewEdge network a strong competitive advantage.

Netskope customer Adam Hoffmann, IT Infrastructure Manager at Mercury Engineering, based in Dublin commented; “We chose Netskope over a year ago to secure both web and cloud applications for our pan-European workforce. They were very clear about the intentions and timelines for the addition of local infrastructure in Ireland and now they have delivered on that promise. Netskope was already improving the experience of our teams, and when the local Dublin data centre came on line it immediately added even further to that improvement for our 1,000+ employees based in Ireland.”

Brian Murray, who leads Netskope’s business in Ireland said; “Its geographical and political location is making Ireland a key strategic jurisdiction for the tech industry and with the opening of this data centre in Dublin, Netskope is well placed to deliver the best in class SASE solution for new and existing customers in the region. Robust SASE solutions backed by local data centres are important for all organisations that require clear oversight over their data, wherever it goes, in order to meet stringent data policies both inside and outside the EU.”

To support the new data centre, Netskope is actively recruiting in Ireland for both Irish and flexible pan-European roles in engineering, sales, marketing and HR, with the aim of doubling its headcount in the country over the coming year. The new centre coincides with the expansion of Netskope’s Irish customer base, which already includes major customers in the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and retail sectors.

Netskope’s NewEdge architecture ensures there are no performance trade-offs when implementing security features.  A crucial part of the infrastructure that underpins a SASE security and networking architecture, balancing security and user experience reduces the risk of users working around security controls, productivity being negatively affected, or business processes being slowed down or impeded.

Every NewEdge data center is extensively peered with the most commonly used web/content-delivery networks, cloud, and SaaS providers to deliver fast, optimised access to the content, apps, and data enterprises most care about. For example, every NewEdge data center is directly connected with Microsoft and Google, plus other peering relationships in key regions with Amazon, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Box, and Dropbox, among many others.

As the infrastructure underpinning the Netskope Security Cloud, NewEdge delivers real-time inline and out-of-band API-driven services spanning Cloud Firewall (FWaaS), Secure Web Gateway (SWG), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Cloud and SaaS Security Posture Management (CSPM/SSPM), Borderless SD-WAN and more.
