Here is what your EU Digital Covid Certificate looks like. #EUDigitalCovidCertificate

Yesterday the all new EU Digital Covid Certificate started rolling out to those who had their test in a mass testing centre and today my own arrived which is impressive and it is via the good old QR code which most of us are familiar with today. As it stands if you have been vaccinated you can expect your digital cert by email next Thursday and if at a GP/Pharmacy or Hospital you should have it by next Tuesday in the post all going well below is what to expect if you get the email which is sent in English and As Gaeilge. Obviously for protecting my own information certain elements have been covered here and the QR code is where my logo is and it comes in the form of a PDF so it can be printed then folded and as you will see some items are upside down with instructions to fold on the bottom left.

You can scan the barcode however no information is available to you as to what’s on it.

Dear Jim,

Please find your EU Digital COVID Certificate attached to this mail.

The certificate is proof that you have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

This is an important document and should be kept safe.

Almost Half of adults in Ireland have broken COVID-19 local restrictions. #Covid19 #Level3 #WearAMask

Esri Ireland, the market leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), today announces findings from a new nationwide survey which showed that during COVID-19 restrictions, 44% of adults in Ireland travelled outside the imposed 2km, 5km or 20km restricted travel radius for reasons other than essential journeys. Alongside this I myself have observed we seem to be forgetting there is a virus out there and mask wearing is also now becoming less visible and we need to take a long hard look at ourselves.

As further lockdown restrictions are mooted by government, the survey of more than 1,000 adults in Ireland – conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Esri Ireland – discovered that the top three non-essential reasons for people breaching local travel restrictions were to meet family members (17%); get more exercise (16%); and gain access to a wider choice of shops (14%).

In terms of overseas travel, the survey found that almost two-thirds (64%) of people in Ireland postponed or cancelled holidays abroad in 2020, with nearly a quarter (22%) opting for ‘staycations’ around the country in place of their original plans. It was also found that despite the impact of the coronavirus, respondents aged under 25 were twice as likely as those over 25 to still travel abroad in 2020 as planned.

Esri Ireland commissioned the independent research to better understand how people in Ireland are navigating the new realities of life during the pandemic. The survey highlighted new means of keeping up to date with COVID-19 developments, with 62% of the public using online mapping resources to view updates about COVID-19 and 93% of these finding maps a helpful way of staying informed about the virus.

Looking to future methods of managing and planning for other unexpected events or pandemics, the majority of respondents agree that geography and science will play an important role. 55% of respondents believe that geography and science lessons are more important following the outbreak of COVID-19. Having been removed as a core Junior Certificate subject in 2018, 59% believe that geography should be reinstated as a mandatory subject for Junior Certificate students.

Paul Synnott, Managing Director, Esri Ireland

Paul Synnott, managing director, Esri Ireland, said: “Our day-to-day lives have been dramatically impacted by the outbreak of coronavirus and this survey sheds some light on how the Irish public has collectively approached the imposed travel restrictions. Location, place and geography play a key role in terms of containing localised outbreaks, limiting the spread of the virus across borders and helping the public to understand and visualise these restrictions.

“It’s reassuring to see the majority of people recognise the importance of geography and science in modern education. Geographic knowledge empowers us to think critically, see the big picture and solve problems. Mapping and geography are essential for today’s policy-makers requiring detailed and accurate information to manage this crisis, but also for tomorrow’s leaders seeking to build a stronger public health policy and enact the changes that our world needs to address future challenges.”

Here is a walkthrough of the Irish Covid Tracker App Now over a million downloads. #CovidTrackerApp #HSELive

UPDATE..

Now downloaded over a million times we still need more.  So straight away you should download it and ignore the conspiracy theorists on social media and help out in these challenging times. Get it HERE on Android and HERE on iOS

First of all on both stores the app does not ask for permissions I have it downloaded on both Android and iOS and done so last night, Next up the people complaining about it are the same ones that most likely use Facebook Twitter and other social platforms so if you are worried about privacy concerns you have long missed that boat folks regardless. See below. The app is decentralised and cant access any other apps on your device, have a nice day!!

In short if you use the app you will

  •  be alerted if you have been in close contact with another app user who has tested positive for coronavirus
  •  be able to track any symptoms you have and get advice on what to do to protect yourself and others
  •  be able to anonymously warn other app users that you were in close contact with, if you test positive for coronavirus

I will not bore you with an “all you need to know” section but here is all that information HERE all you need is a smartphone on Apple’s iOS 13.5 ( iPhone 6s or higher or Google’s Android 6.0 or higher and you download just like any other app like any social media app, the app just uses your bluetooth and for now has had little or no effect on my battery which also has been a concern for many on social media this morning. You will ultimitley need to allow Exposure Notification on your device and fill in the information provided during the set-up just like you are the one that decides to hand over your phone number. Another point to mention it states you must be over 16 to use this app however how many teenagers out there today have a mobile phone, the same ones that hung around in groups during the height of the pandemic are we missing something here, these are the very people on social media too.

Below is a quick walthrough of the app and what to expect.  Again see The HSE website here for anything else. My first notable observation so far is no effect on battery life but it does seem to delay bluetooth connections.
