The Irish Aviation Authority, today launched the ‘Drone Safely This Christmas’ Campaign, supported by Drone Innovation Partnership and Dublin City Council. If you’re thinking of getting a drone this Christmas, you need to make sure you register as an Operator on the IAA website and that you know the rules before you fly. This advice comes ahead of the busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas.
Drone use is on the rise and the number of drones and operators registered in Ireland has risen exponentially over past number of years. Safety is paramount, and so since 2021, the IAA has registered over 8,000 drone operators and trained over 21,500 drone pilots. This year has seen a 24% increase in the number of pilots trained.
Consumers who own a drone that is over 250gr or has a camera, are legally required to register as a drone operator. If you are a drone operator, drone safety is your responsibility. You need to ensure you are always in control of the drone and that you remain compliant with the law.
Jim Gavin, Chief Operations Officer of the Irish Aviation Authority commenting on drone safety said:
“Drone use has increased significantly in recent years. Piloting a drone is fun but it comes with responsibility to fly it safely while respecting people’s privacy. Remember a drone is not a toy and can have very serious consequences if it collides with a person, an animal or another aircraft. So, if you do get a drone this Christmas, remember it’s your responsibility to know the rules and fly it safely.”

“As drones top Christmas wish lists, it’s crucial to remember they are not toys. Fly responsibly by checking current regulations and following safe practices. The Drone Innovation Partnership (DIP), a collaboration between the Irish Aviation Authority, Dublin City Council, and Maynooth University, is working to ensure drones enhance public services and support emergency responses while keeping our skies safe through active stakeholder engagement, including citizens.”
“Thankfully the vast majority of drone users are compliant with the regulations. However, we are concerned, with the rapid growth of drone usage, that not all new pilots may be aware of their responsibilities which can lead to unsafe flying. If you see anyone not complying with the regulations, we encourage people to contact the IAA. Reckless use of a drone or inappropriate use of a drone camera may result in prosecution,”Enda Walsh, UAS Manager/Drones Manager from the Irish Aviation Authority added.

Workhuman®, the company revolutionising the way employees celebrate, connect with and appreciate each other in the workplace, today announces new findings from its Human Workplace Index, which found that 1 in 4 (27%) of employees expect they will be responding to work emails over Christmas. While work pressures are getting to employees, more than half (58%) of employees in Ireland say they are also stressed about the financial burden of buying Christmas gifts this year.
The survey of 1,000 full-time employees in Ireland was commissioned by Workhuman and conducted by Pollfish to gain insights into attitudes and expectations around the holidays, including how work cultures support employees during the season, as well as gifting and giving habits.
The research suggests that many find it difficult to take a break over the holidays. Some 22% of employees say they will not be able to fully switch off from work over their Christmas holidays while 28% admitted that their large workload would prevent them from taking as much time off as they would like over the holidays.
The survey also found that, though the spirit of the season is alive and well, many employees may find this a stressful time of year. Per the research, employees expect to spend an average of €974 each on Christmas gifts this year. More than half of employees (54%) responded that they feel stressed out about buying holiday gifts— however this doesn’t seem to be hindering the amount of people they shop for, with nearly a quarter of employees saying they will buy holiday presents for up to 10 people.
Workhuman’s survey found that as people get into the festive spirit, the majority of employees who receive end-of-year bonuses are using them to pay for Christmas presents. More than a quarter (27%) of respondents who receive end-of-year bonuses say they are essential for affording Christmas presents, while a further 53% said they alleviate some of the financial burden. Despite this, over half (51%) of respondents would prefer to receive smaller spot bonuses throughout the year rather than one larger lump sum at the end of the year.
Many employees expressed an interest in employee recognition as a means of supplementing their Christmas budgets. Workhuman’s survey shows that 66% of employees would like to use points from an employee recognition programme to buy gifts. Employees are using Workhuman’s recognition platform in this way, with smartwatches, air fryers and headphones among the top purchases for those based in Europe.
When it comes to gifting trends in the workplace, 44% of employees receive Christmas gifts from their colleagues and 27% do a ‘Secret Santa’ at work. Some 32% get presents from their employer or manager and, of these, 95% say they usually, or always, like them. However, 12% admitted they usually re-gift them to someone else.

The festive season is well and truly here and we have a range of tech for the home indoors and outdoors to brighten things up and show off to your neighbours and it is already heating up on the street here but I have some cool lights here for both inside and out to let them step back and enjoy.

First up is their new Candies candles. they come in a few styles and we picked the candle shaped version, you can also get pearls, stars and hearts. There is a cable colour choice too which is clear Green or Black, we picked the clear cable.
The presentation is nice and inside the box you get two separate bundles of candies wrapped up to make life a bit easy as you have 2X 19.6 ft of cable to deal with so there is plenty to get creative with, you do not have to have them on the tree as the box suggests but you can create designs or wrap around current items in your home and so on.

Setting up is simple and takes a few minutes once you have planned how you are going to execute you grand design or put on your Christmas Tree. You have a USB-C plug which is great and there is a control on the plug for the simpler things that changes the colours and how they operate but the app is where it is all at.
