Expleo, a global engineering, technology and consulting service provider, today announces research findings which show that 31% of businesses in Ireland reserve budget to pay ransoms in the event of successful cyber attacks. The survey also found that despite most organisations tackling multiple cyber-threats on an ongoing basis, only a small proportion expect to fall victim to a cyber-attack in the next 12 months.
In anticipation of the launch of its Business Transformation Index 2024, Expleo’s analysis surveyed medium- to large-sized businesses across the island of Ireland, uncovering the impact and prevalence of cybersecurity threats. It found that the payment of ransoms, and the expectation of paying them, is embedded in many organisations’ cybersecurity strategies. In the last 12 months alone, 33% of businesses have paid a ransom to cyber-criminals.
The research found that one-third of enterprises have been severely impacted by an incident within their organisation in the last 12 months, while 31% have been severely impacted by a cybersecurity incident in their supply chain.
Given the devastating impact that cyber-attacks have on business operations and customer trust, the research found that businesses are preparing for significant investments in cybersecurity in the next 12 months. Expleo’s research found that the average enterprise in Ireland will spend €1.18M on cybersecurity in the next 12 months with one in seven spending more than this. Signalling what this could be spent on for some, a sizeable proportion (27%) of organisations reported that their security technologies and processes are outdated. Meanwhile, a quarter of businesses admitted that they do not invest enough in cybersecurity.
Overall, the survey pointed to an acceptance among businesses in Ireland that they will fall victim to cyber attacks, with 29% saying they anticipate this in the next 12 months. However, this is far lower than the proportion of businesses who fell victim to cyberattacks in the last 12 months. Half of all businesses admitted that their defences were breached by a ransomware attack in the last 12 months, rising to 53% of businesses who fell victim to social engineering attacks. In fact, of the 89% of businesses who said they were targeted with social engineering attacks in the last 12 months, 60% reported that the attacks resulted in a security breach.
The majority of businesses have also been targets of voice-cloning, phishing, whaling (phishing attacks on senior figures in the organisation), malware and AI-powered attacks in the past year, with success rates of between 40% and 50% across all cyberattacks.
Rob McConnell, Global Solutions Director, Expleo Group, said: “Given the high success rates of known cyber-attack attempts, our research shows that if businesses have avoided falling victim to one type of attack, they have probably not been so fortunate with another. We have reached the point where it is not if you will be targeted, but when and how often. Every single business should expect to be targeted by sophisticated attacks on an ongoing basis. It is only with this level of pragmatism that they will be able to deploy the defences needed to combat or detect these advances.
“At the most basic level, enterprises must be confident that they are investing enough in cybersecurity and that their systems and processes are constantly being updated and reinforced. But that will only go so far in protecting them. Organisations must adopt zero-trust frameworks which mean even the CEO is not trusted by the network.
“This is the reality of doing business anywhere in the world today. Businesses that accept this can adopt a culture of openness that will remove some of the blame game associated with cybersecurity. In doing so, they will be able to work proactively towards a more robust organisation with the mindset and infrastructure needed to mitigate risk.”
New research from PayPal unwraps consumer expectations and beliefs relating to Christmas shopping and spending during the festive season.
PayPal’s 2023 Festive Spending Snapshot – conducted by Censuswide and polling more than 1,000 consumers who celebrate the holiday season across Ireland revealed that 71 per cent of people actively establish a budget for the holiday season. However, despite their best intentions, 74 per cent of these budget-setters often overspend during the holiday season.
Budgeting plans for the holidays
Perhaps unsurprisingly, more than half (57%) of people get stressed when it comes to planning their Christmas budgets and 37 per cent would like better control over their holiday expenses.
Popular tips and trends among Christmas shoppers across Ireland included:
Ringing the bells for budgets – Out of the shoppers who actively establish a budget for the holiday season, 36 per cent allocate budgets per person that they need to buy for. Just under a third (32%) say that having a budget makes them less stressed/more relaxed and some 26 per cent set one to prevent them from dipping into their savings.
Jingling rather than mingling – A quarter (25%) of people in Ireland are forgoing their work Christmas parties to make their budgets stretch further this Christmas. Furthermore, attending New Year’s Eve parties are off the list of 24 per cent of consumers to reduce costs.
Sleighing with saving – Thirty-two per cent of consumers plan to pay for goods using loyalty points or rewards, while 28 per cent will compare prices using apps to cut back on spending this year. Moreover, 21 per cent will use a digital wallet (like PayPal) to track online purchases and 18 per cent will shop online this year.
Festive shopping habits
When it comes to online shopping, respondents cited main benefits which included saving time (48%), helps them to avoid crowds (44%), better offers (36%), more competitive prices (33%), greater variety (31%) and it enables them to complete their shopping earlier (27%).
On timing, 57 per cent of consumers expect to have their Christmas shopping finished by the 12th of December. On the other hand, the county with the highest proportion of last-minute shoppers – those that wait until after 20th December – is Monaghan (50%). This was followed by Offaly (29%), Kerry (28%) and Carlow (27%).
Looking beyond Christmas, 60 per cent of survey respondents usually shop in the January sales, with just over a third (34%) picking up presents for the following year. The expected average spend in the coming January sales is €248.
Are Irish people rationalising spending?
The study revealed people’s concerns when buying Christmas presents. These included delivery/arrival times (62%), overspending (61%) being scammed (57%), shopping on unfamiliar websites (49%) and filling in financial details when making purchases (46%).
However, despite the concern around excessive expense when Christmas shopping, more than three quarters (77%) of people have justified spending over their budget. About a quarter (28%) agree that ‘buying one and getting one free’ means they can treat themselves to the free item.
Meanwhile, 27 per cent typically spend enough to get free delivery so that they don’t lose money and 23 per cent believe that getting something for half price means they can make their budget go further.
The leading reasons for rationalising spending during this time of year were found to be that it is a means of relaxation (27%), gift-giving fosters emotional connections (25%) and it makes people feel less guilty (23%).
As for what’s driving this spending over their budget among consumers, more than a third (36%) cited much higher prices this year.
Speaking about the findings, Maeve Dorman, Senior Vice President, PayPal, commented: “It’s clear that people in Ireland are conscious of the cost associated with Christmas, with many justifying the expense and others overspending. But this is where “festive maths” comes in. It means planning and sticking to a budget, while being smart with spending. From tracking transactions and using Honey for discounts or using PayPal at Checkout, festive maths enables people to take better control of their finances and enjoy the holiday season.”

The XGODY X18 is a cheap Android device and one of many from the brand that is on offer saving you money they also have an array of other products to pick from and again affordable such as tablets theatre dash cams and GPS equipment so go check them out afterwards. The device we had came in a nice stand out colour and looks more than you would think it costs which might be a good start for some but pretty common with these type of phones. And true to fashion you get a case and a screen protector and a charger in the box which is a win to begin with.
The device is light to hold and does not feel so cheap either in comparison to other devices I have tested in the past that comes in cheap, the spec sheet rings out many specs and it does scream iPhone in some departments but this is how it goes today and it is down to real life testing that matters to see if all is executed.
The screen is a decent 6.3 with a teardrop camera in screen but I found it dull in comparison but you have to remember the price paid here and corners will be cut with any manufacturer boasting all the specs as it does cost money to make a phone and so does the BOM which is the bill of materials and the screen is one area where you can see the first case here.
Having said that it does the job and again it is a budget phone so do not expect the bells and whistles like you might come to expect it is fine for watching movies and doing your social media and so on.
XGODY X18 mobile phone rear
When it comes to power it does the basics I had no issue doing my social media emails and browsing and not a hitch to be seen and this is what most people do today and do not need higher end devices with power consuming apps etc so it gets a pass here from me, it comes with 2GB RAM and 16 GB ROM with 256GB storage via sd card which by today’s standards is low but plenty for those who just want the basics.
The audio is not great as you will see in the unboxing it has a single firing speaker but it will do the job again for those on a budget..
Battery life however is decent and I easily got a day out of it using in full capacity as a daily driver so for those who want juice you have it here and you have to take into account it is using Android Go which is a stripped down version of the latest and greatest and designed for low end phones and this works well.
The cameras is another area which did not shine to much but does the job and in brighter conditions you will get better snaps depending on what you aim for there is not all the features you find in higher end phones or some mid tier devices for that matter present so it is just a basic camera with a HDR option on it to improve the quality of your snaps and videos which again you can see below in the review. You get a 5MP front camera and 8MP rear camera with AI and this actually worked quite well.
You also get face unlock with this phone and it works quite well and not something you see in this price range so convenience is there if you want it rather than using pin numbers etc.
Overall this is an ideal phone for young teens or someone on their first phone as it is affordable and has plenty on board to keep you going for anyone looking for more I would move on but it gets the basics done OK and that is plenty for many and a huge market for it and again the price is what you have to take into account here and it is worth the money.

Integrity360, Ireland and the UK’s largest cyber security services specialist, has today announced findings from a Twitter poll gaining visibility into the value of managed detection and response services (MDR). The poll, with 2,000+ responses and conducted between 8-10 March, highlights the pitfalls of existing detection and response, with the skills shortage and low budgets cited as the biggest challenges when it comes to managed detection and response – 28% respectively.
Furthermore, a third (33%) of respondents believe that threat detection is lacking most when it comes to cyber security and incident detection and response. This was closely followed by training and testing (27%). Meanwhile 26% of respondents said slow response times and 18% selected lack of visibility.
Richard Ford, CTO, Integrity360, comments:“Preventative measures, to protect and prevent threats targeting our critical systems and data are important, but not enough in this increasingly sophisticated cyber threat landscape. Organisations need security solutions and services that are effective peri-incident, that can detect, analyse and respond to threats that have bypassed preventative controls – threats both internal and external. Training and testing of these solutions, including platform tuning and training employees, is equally critical to maintaining a strong security posture.
“There remains a huge skills shortage in the cyber security industry, and particularly in high value skills and experience such as threat detection and incident response. MDR helps close the gap. In fact, organisations bridging the skills gap and utilising MDR services have a 62% reduction in the average number of security incidents per year”.
The poll did reveal that respondents look set to take action to address issues around incident detection and response, agreeing that MDR should be prioritised and highlighting that they will allocate the most cyber security budget to managed security (29%). A further twenty five percent noted that cyber security testing (25%) would receive a budget boost.
This is positive given that four in ten (40%) believe cyber security testing is best outsourced over handling in-house. Additionally, over a third (35%) believe a service provider better manages cloud computing security.
It appears in-house approaches may also require investment or improvement with the poll revealing that almost a third (31%) of respondents said that thirty percent of their cyber security budget is allocated to tools and solutions that are not used to their full potential.
When it comes to what people see as the most damaging impact of a cyber security breach, financial loss came top of the list (46%), followed by loss of trust (28%). Meanwhile, reputational damage was selected by twenty percent of respondents.
Ford adds:“We’re currently experiencing a time of economic downturn, when cyber security budgets are tight, and risks are heightened. However, slashing cyber security budgets can put a company at risk of losing their cyber security professionals which are already in short supply and can result in gaps in an organisation’s defences. Organisations are visibly assessing the value and efficiency of their security solutions and it’s great to see that they are looking to put budgets to good use by investing money and trust in service providers.”
Further, the poll found that over a third (36%) see increased defences as the most significant benefit of cyber security collaboration, with (36%) also seeing faster response times as being the biggest benefit of a managed detection and response service.
Integrity360’s MDR offering delivers real-time threat detection, proactive threat hunting, incident containment and response, security incident analysis and threat intelligence, compliance reporting, and 24/7 monitoring to businesses across Ireland and the UK. As well as enhancing organisations’ detection and response capabilities and enabling the protection of systems and data, the service provides businesses with access to on-demand and proactive support via Integrity360’s experienced security team.
Integrity360 leverages the latest threat intelligence and state-of-the-art solutions to deliver its MDR service to identify new threat actor Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) across networks, endpoints, servers, and the cloud.
Ford added:“As cyber threats continue to evolve in frequency, sophistication and efficacy, companies must roll out a comprehensive service to meet their security needs. That’s where MDR comes in. Through our offering we aim to deliver even deeper technical expertise and innovative technologies which enable companies to secure their operations and allow us to serve as an extension of their team.”
Finding a life insurance policy that fits into your budget is easier than ever.
Life insurance is one of the best ways to find peace of mind in knowing that your family would be financially supported if you were to pass away. The money received by beneficiaries can help pay off any outstanding bills and debts, pay for final arrangements, and even act as an inheritance for your children. While the benefits are clear, if you have a tight budget, life insurance may feel like a luxury you cannot afford. But, if you shop around for the best rate possible and do a little bit of repositioning in your budget, you might be surprised at how affordable it can really be.
4 Tips To Find Affordable Life Insurance Rates
Finding an affordable rate will make it easier to fit your premium into your budget
The first step in finding a life insurance policy that can work within your budget is to find an affordable rate in the first place. There are plenty of ways that you can save money while still finding a policy that gives you the coverage you want.
1. Get Your Health In Order
Your health is one of the biggest determining factors when a life insurance company considers how much coverage you can get and how much you will have to pay for it. When you apply for a life insurance policy, you will be asked quite a few questions about your health, and you should do your best to provide as much information as possible.
Specifically, your height and weight can play a big part in determining your premiums. Your body mass index (BMI) can make the difference between your rate class, so, if you have a higher BMI, you’re likely to pay more. On top of that, things like your blood pressure and your cholesterol can do the same to your rates. Add in any smoking habits, and you can say goodbye to affordable rates. If you have started to notice some issues with these health vitals or if you are a smoker, you may want to get these in check before applying for a life insurance policy.
Let’s say that you need a life insurance policy sooner rather than later, but you don’t have the time to wait to work on your health. You might get locked into a higher premium rate at first, but there are still ways you can get a lower price. If you’ve quit smoking and have made major improvements to your health, you can always ask your life insurance policy carrier to re-evaluate your health to see if you can get a better rate. Normally, you have to provide some medical records to prove that you are not only in better health now, but you have also maintained better health for a certain period of time. If your carrier does not give you the opportunity for a rate re-evaluation, you can always shop around for a new policy. Chances are, you might find a policy elsewhere for a better price.
2. Find The Right Type Of Coverage
When trying to get a life insurance policy for the most affordable rate possible, the type of insurance you get will have a big impact on how much you pay monthly. The two most popular types of life insurance are term and permanent, but you’ll pay a vastly different amount for each.
Out of the top two, term life insurance tends to be the most affordable. This is because term life insurance is the most basic type of life insurance you can get, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great way to get coverage. Term life insurance covers you for an agreed-upon period of time for a certain amount of coverage. If the policyholder were to die within that time, then their beneficiaries would receive the death benefit.
Nowadays, the internet has made it so much easier to find life insurance online. Whereas traditional approaches to life insurance policies require applicants to undergo a medical exam, you can now find great rates for life insurance without a medical exam through accelerated term life insurance. Not every company offers this type of insurance, but it has been popping up more and more in recent years. While you will still have to answer some questions about your medical history, you won’t need to take time out of your busy schedule to get a medical exam. Instead, companies use the information provided on your application and use algorithms to determine if they can approve you for coverage as well as how much you will pay for the coverage. All in all, it’s a much simpler and quicker process and you will still be able to get a great rate for the coverage you need.
Permanent life insurance, on the other hand, covers a policyholder for their entire life rather than a certain period of time. The death benefit also has some additional benefits as well. As the policyholder pays their premium, that money accumulates and translates into a cash value that can be used while the policyholder is still alive to borrow against. With this added benefit of guaranteed coverage over the course of life as well as the cash value, permanent life insurance can be very appealing until someone sees the price tag.
3. Ask About Discounts
You should always ask the carrier if they offer any types of discounts. In a lot of cases, there are ways that you can unlock even more savings.
The most common way that people receive discounts on life insurance is by paying their premium payments in full for, let’s say, a year. If this is something you are financially able to do, your provider may offer anywhere from a 2-8% discount. Before you get a life insurance policy, ask to see if your carrier provides any discounts such as this one. On top of that, some carriers will provide a certain discount if you have a certain job or profession. So, if you are in the military or are a teacher, there could be even more saving opportunities.
Now, another very popular way to save money on life insurance is to bundle it with other insurance you may need. Most commonly, people will bundle their life insurance with their home or auto insurance. Especially if you need these insurances, why pay a higher price to get your insurances separately when you can bundle and potentially save even more money?
4. Shop Around
The best way to get the most affordable life insurance rate possible is by doing your due diligence and shopping around. Luckily, the internet makes it so incredibly easy to get quotes from multiple providers, compare your offers, and pick the option that makes the most sense for you. Not all companies will give you the same rates for the same or similar coverage amounts, so it is always in your best interest to get a healthy amount of quotes to compare. It may be tempting to automatically select the policy with the lowest monthly premium price, but you should always weigh the coverage amount and the price so that you are getting the most for what you are paying.
How To Adjust Your Budget To Fit Life Insurance Costs
Now that you’ve found a great rate, it’s time to re-evaluate your budget and make any necessary adjustments
With an affordable life insurance policy rate locked in, now it’s time to see how it plays into your budget. By reviewing your current budget and making some adjustments, you will have a better understanding of what you need to change about your spending habits in order to afford your rates.
Review Your Budget
The first step in adjusting your budget to fit life insurance costs is to review your current budget. It’s good to do this from time to time anyway so you can make sure your budget still works for your needs.
When reviewing your budget, first start by comparing your planned spending and your actual spending habits. Using a budgeting app or going through your bank statements, you can get a better idea of where you are aligned with your planned spending and where you may be missing the mark in actuality.
With a better understanding of your spending habits in mind, you will next want to consider any new expenses. In the case of life insurance, you may want to test how your budget may change if you decide to pay your premiums in full for the year or if you decide to pay monthly.
Looking at the bigger picture, keep your financial goals at the top of your mind as well. This may impact how much you need to modify your spending habits if you find that you don’t have enough room in your budget to realistically achieve your goals.
Determine What You Can Cut In Your Budget
Now that you have a better idea of where you would like your money to go and how you have actually been spending, you can then start to modify your budget. If you have crunched the numbers and have determined that you can realistically fit your life insurance into your budget without needing to make any significant changes, then you may not need to modify your budget very much at all. Or, the solution may be to simply move planned spending budgets from category to category.
However, if you have noticed that your financial priorities have changed and you don’t have the wiggle room to accomplish what you need, then cutting back on your unnecessary spending is a great place to start making changes. While this will look different for everyone depending on their own habits, some popular ways to cut back are as follows:
Cut back on going out to eat.
Plan nights in rather than nights out.
Audit your subscriptions and cut back where you can.
Even simple but consistent changes can add up and make room for your new financial priorities.
Life insurance policies are a great way to ensure that your family will always be financially supported, even if you were to pass away. With that in mind, know that life insurance isn’t a luxury that only a few can afford. With a little bit of research and some adjustments in your budget, a life insurance policy is well within reach.

There is plenty of Android tablets on the market and as disgussed before most sub 100 euro tabs just dont do it,they are just a waste of money and more hassle than they are worth and for me a steer clear buy even though they are cheap and cheerful they will quite honestly irritate you in the end.
Windows tablets are now catching up on with several types available but for the money again they fall into the same issue with Android tablets again you could say its you get what you pay for but there is some both in the Android world and Windows.
The Linx series tablets are newish enough but seem to be getting popular due to the build quality and options available on them such as HDMI,something you do not see on many tablets today..
1 / 8
The Linx tablet line have decent specs all round and a good quality build which give them a good headstart over other tablets in the sub €120 price range.
On the Linx 7 which we will look at today we have the following.
12 month subscription to Office 365,Windows 8.1 OS,1GB RAM,7 INCH IPS TFT LCD DISPLAY,2 MP FRONT CAMERA,2MP REAR CAMERA,HDMI OUTPUT,43 GB INTERNAL STORAGE,MICRO SD SUPPORT,3,500 MAH BATTERY,BLUETOOTH,WIFI.
Firstly the 2 MP camera is poor but tablets are not really for taking pictures either but you have a camera there just in case, also the 1GB RAM is not impressive but plenty for running tasks,Battery is quite good but again the persons usage will again yeild different results, overall its battery life is quite good..So far the tablet seems to run quite smooth and fast with only the wifi causing issues with connection it seems to loose connection quite often so hopefully this will be sorted out soon enough with an update, others have reported the same issue..
Check out the video below and if you have any questions just ask.
