Tech Review – JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds

The JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds are their latest on offer moving up from the JBL Tour Pro 2 with similar features and looks which unfortunately I never tested but from the getgo I was intrigued by being able to control your music from your earbuds case and how well it would work but these can offer more than one would expect after testing them out now for a few weeks. You can see a detailed first look here.

The presentation is as always excellent and identifiable easily in a store or online and the overall package pretty cool putting up as one of my favourite earbuds case this year so far and that is due to what can be done and how you can use the case and I am pretty sure others will follow in time which in fact some chinese manufacturers have done so with rampant ads on Facebook with a really cheap price so be warned, they most likely will be brutal and cheap knock offs some even using the JBL logo and trying to hide it, yes we seen you….

So the case is excellent and the earbuds are on the small side with small stems LED lights and magnetic points to stay put in your case with subtle branding on the outside of the stem, colour dependent this may stand out more but not in your face.

Of course you get the JBL app to set up the earbuds and you can use the case to do so too however once set up via the app I find you will no linger need to go near the earbuds you can even get message notifications on the earbuds case which is handy and this is also a neat way to keep you away from your phone giving you a little taste of some detox which is not a bad idea. The notifications are not rich however still it is a great idea.

Onto the sound as we go into detail on the case in the video review below and overall it is as you would expect from the brand with their custom sounds and app access you are in control not only from your phone but from the case, with their 10mm drivers highs lows and mids all fine nice bass and after going through my test look everything did really well you can customize the sound to your own needs which is vital on a pair of earbuds an no issues for me no lag latency or tinny sound when maxed out which is how I like listening to my music and movies etc.

Some might find the case as a gimmick however I found myself using it all the time and with some travel I have done I have brought them with me and will be doing so on upcoming tech trips very soon so watch out for some new cool tech coming soon here on the site and YouTube.

Battery life is also solid and you have an IP55 rating and with your ANC and really good ambient sound on tap these certainly should be on your radar and not overpriced either compared to the benchmark offerings from Apple.

OIKLA Launches Perception: A Breakthrough Audio Hearing Protection Algorithm for Remora PRO

OIKLA, a trailblazer in audio technology, proudly announces the release of Perception, a revolutionary audio hearing protection algorithm designed for Remora PRO. Leveraging the advanced capabilities of Sonical’s embedded operating system, CosmOS, Perception marks a monumental leap in preserving auditory health while delivering unparalleled audio experiences through headphones and all other ear-worn products.

Remora PRO epitomises OIKLA’s commitment to innovation, offering users an immersive audio experience like never before. With the integration of Perception, Remora PRO guarantees optimal sound quality and user well-being in any listening environment.  In the light of recent data from the World Health Organisation that brings to our attention the huge number of hearing issues being uncovered, in particular with younger listeners, we believe everyone should be protecting their hearing.

OIKLA’s Perception technology seamlessly blends two powerful features to provide an audio experience that feels louder and more immersive while maintaining safe listening levels. This innovative approach ensures users enjoy their favourite sounds without risking their hearing health. Grammy award-winning engineer and producer Ricky Damian endorses this groundbreaking technology, highlighting its potential to revolutionise audio experiences.

Smart Hearing Loss Prevention

Proactive Threshold Monitoring – The technology monitors listening levels and alerts users or limits audio when safe thresholds are exceeded, ensuring continuous protection against hearing damage. This feature ensures that even as audio levels increase, user safety remains a top priority.

Advanced Loudness Compensation

Dynamic Content-Based Adjustment Harnessing the latest ISO standards, Perception fine-tunes loudness based on the audio content and the frequency spectrum of the headphone acoustics. This ensures that users perceive sound as louder and more dynamic without the need for higher volumes, thereby reducing the risk of hearing damage. Audiologists can provide expert advice and solutions to optimize hearing aids or sound systems for safe and effective use.

Enhanced Spatialization Advanced loudness compensation algorithms amplify spatial audio cues, offering a deeply immersive listening experience. This enhances the perception of sound depth and direction, making the audio experience more engaging and realistic.

“Our partnership with Sonical has allowed us to combine cutting-edge technology with a steadfast commitment to user well-being,” said Luigi Cosi , CEO at OIKLA. “With the launch of Perception for Remora PRO, we are proud to offer users an unparalleled fusion of exceptional audio performance and advanced hearing protection capabilities.”

Gary Spittle, CEO of Sonical adds “Sound level monitoring and hearing protection are among the most requested features that end users ask us to support.  Oikla’s solution comes from the professional plugin community and is a fantastic addition to the CosmOS enabled ecosystem”.

Remora PRO, equipped with OIKLA’s Perception audio hearing protection algorithm is poised to revolutionise the way users interact with audio content, setting new standards for immersive and responsible listening experiences.

Edifier D32 tabletop speaker – Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified, AirPlay compatible and high-capacity built-in battery

Edifier International, the award-winning audio design house, has announced details of their new retro-inspired D32 Tabletop Wireless Speaker. Producing high quality audio playback, the D32 is precision manufactured to satisfy savvy audiophiles and design lovers alike.

Edifier have become known for marrying premium production quality with flawless audio experiences and the D32 is no exception. With a hand-made wooden housing, the speaker is acoustically treated to reduce excess resonance and distortion, whilst dual bass reflex ports enhance lows without overpowering mids and highs. Fitted with two 1″ silk dome tweeters and one 4″ long-throw mid-low driver, the speaker is capable of producing a frequency response of between 52Hz – 40kHz and has earned the prestigious Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications.

Elsewhere inside, the D32 includes dual Class-D audio amplifiers from Texas Instruments, capable of providing enhanced end-to-end high resolution audio processing. Importantly, this is done via a two-way active crossover, which separates the audio signal during processing to ensure it remains as pure as possible. Additionally, the D32 has in-built dynamic range control (DRC) that reduces the difference between the loudest and quietest aspects of an audio signal, overall producing a more balanced, detailed and consistent audio fidelity when listening between different genres.

Together, with support for SBC, AAC, LDAC, and ALAC (Apple AirPlay 2) codecs and an 11-hour battery life, the Edifier D32 TableTop Speaker places a premium on outstanding audio whilst maintaining, at its core, multi-use functionality. Featuring multiple input options, including Bluetooth V5.3, USB-C, Wi-Fi (Apple AirPlay) and AUX, the D32 weighs just 3.04Kg. Measuring 250mm x 162mm x 179mm, users can enjoy the D32 in a range of home and on-the-go settings, whether enjoying the latest podcast on the couch, singing to a favourite song in the bathroom or entertaining friends in the summer sun.

Quintessential to this multi-use functionality, Edifier place particular importance on the visual language of their products. The D32 sports a unique mid-century modern feel; built using the most advanced production techniques and materials, it combines the sleek and minimal lines of the Bauhaus design movement with subtle nods to timeless 1970s radio design. Delivering in both form and function, the warm and sophisticated appearance has a tactile-yet-luxe character, complete with a textured, braided grille, satisfying accordion-style keyboard buttons and smart metallic detailing. Available in both white and black walnut colour ways, the aesthetic versatility of the D32 truly sets it apart – making this an unrivalled choice for the decor-conscious consumer who values a balance between elegant award-winning design and industry-leading audio technology.

Together, Edifier has produced another defining product for the market. A perfect fit for modern life, the D32 achieves impeccable sound whilst maintaining a distinct and eye-catching presence. Finally, the D32 is compatible with the Edifier ConneX App, allowing users to sculpt their sound to taste, including a source switch, various playback controls, sound effects switch and EQ customization.

Jabra Unveils Second Generation of Elite 8 Active and Elite 10, Taking Sound and Streaming to the Next Level

Jabra, a global leader in true wireless sound and hybrid work solutions, is unveiling the Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2 and Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 earbuds. Building upon the same great design and success of their predecessors, these next-generation earbuds come with enhancements that strengthen the audio experience.

This includes the world’s first LE Audio smart case, enhanced spatial sound powered by Dolby Audio for a better music experience, and enhanced Natural HearThrough for better awareness when outdoors. Jabra’s Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) has also been made even stronger with improved mid- and low-frequency noise cancellation.

Streaming anywhere

Jabra has looked beyond the earbuds themselves with this next generation by engineering the world’s first LE Audio smart case. With an innovative design featuring dual USB-C and 3.5mm jack compatibility, the Elite 8 Active and Elite 10 Gen 2 prioritise universal streaming and connectivity at the press of a button.

Integrated seamlessly into the case, the built-in chip enables users to effortlessly connect and stream audio from a variety of devices directly to their earbuds. With lower latency than standard Bluetooth connections from case to buds, users can experience better audio and video sync, alongside Hi-Fi sound quality, courtesy of the LC3 codec. The 2-in-1 cable transforms the smart charging case into a versatile adaptor that can be plugged into any device. Whether on a flight, treadmill or at home watching TV, users can simply plug in the case to enjoy spatial sound streaming directly to their earbuds.

New dimension of audio experience

These earbuds offer a new dimension to the audio experience, with improved spatial sound tuning and Dolby Atmos support, as well as new spatial sound benefits across a wider range of content, including podcasts. In blind tests, 95% of respondents preferred the spatial sound tuning delivered with Gen 2**.

Jabra’s next-generation earbuds also offer an improved call performance with 6-microphone call technology and enhanced AI call algorithms. The microphones distinguish which sounds are background noise and prioritise the spoken voice. Effective noise-reduction algorithms are automatically switched on to provide a clear call performance depending on activity or location to ensure high speech clarity.

Jabra has also improved the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which can block up to twice as much noise as previous generations. The noise reduction performance of the internal feedback microphone has been increased to provide a better ANC effect for noises in the mid- and low-frequency range.

Furthermore, the Adaptive ANC algorithms have been enhanced to maximise the adaptive effect for more users. The result is stronger noise cancellation in multiple scenarios, including aircraft and gym background noise.

The next generation earbuds also provide increased situational (or outdoor) awareness with new Natural HearThrough which is optimised for wind noise reduction and is twice as effective as the previous generation. Thanks to smart algorithms that increase the frequency range of HearThrough, the surrounding ambient sounds now appear clearer and more natural, while wind noise and whistling are noticeably reduced.

Ehtisham Rabbani, Chief Executive of the Gaming & Consumer Division at Jabra said, “With these next generation buds we’ve stepped up those features which we know matter most – improved noise-cancelling and enhanced situational awareness – whilst for the first time bringing innovative LE Audio streaming functionality to the charging case, making it possible to connect to just about anything, anywhere.”

Tech Review – Creative Zen Air Plus Earbuds

The Creative Zen Air Plus Earbuds are one pair of a duo recently announced and of course we have both which is the Zen Air Plus and Zen Air Pro to check out just like the Aurvana Ace duo recently reviewed here on site and YouTube.

The Creative Zen Air Plus comes in a really nice case which is a good start and is a creamy hue color and comes with wireless charging and the flip top lid has a unique opening compared to others. It will fit in any pocket has a matt finish to the touch and just looks really nice. There is a USB-C charge port LED light and reset/connect button.

The earbuds themselves have a really nice fit and give a great seal straight away and these will not fall out of the ears either once the right tips are applied as I always advise people to do. The better the seal the better the sound and this is all before you even touch ANC mode.

You have the choice of two apps here these are SXFI ready and with Creative this has been a favourite of mine some years now, you also have the standard Creative app and there is where you find all your functions and features to get things going and set up to your personal requirements.

The controls are touch controls on the earbuds and work really well and as expected from the brand if you are familiar with the company you will already know there touch control game is on point and still is.

Creative Zen Air Plus – techbuzzireland

You have all the features you would expect to find here like skip and reverse tracks volume and call controls and voice assistant access plus more which you will see in the video review below.

Highs lows and mids are fine with decent volume and nice bass no lag latency or tinny sound or disconnecting during my testing and overall a pleasing sound which anyone would enjoy, battery life is quite good to for such small earbuds and overall there is little to complain about here and they come in a fantastic case and colour.

Tech Review – Majority MP3 Player Pro

Majority Audio recently launched the Majority MP3 Pro and we took a first look at it here if you want to check that out before we move along where we took a good tour of the UI and what to expect inside.

As stated in that article it has been a bit since I actually used an MP3 player and I went through some amount of those back in the day, like most if not all we now use our phones to consume music which is fair but for me this is like a dumb phone to an extent as it has taken me away from my phone and all the notions and not listening to my music to its full extent also this has been good for testing earbuds headphones and speakers too along the way.

The build quality is excellent here and it does remind me of how good some MP3 players did look and feel like, this also comes with plenty of on board storage and you can add your own via Micro Sd card which was ideal for me as I had a pile of music stored one from years ago but the album art was out of kilter however all the tracks still in place but then check my old laptop which gave me some more music with album art in most instances which never really bothered me however when you have a display it of course looks aesthetically better than a random image.

This does not look cheap and looks more premium than what you will pay for it with its color screen with buttons on the right side and a navi wheel on the front which at times for me took a while to get use to using being so long since I last used such a device.

The earphones that came with the device are not the greatest in the world but decent and give you great crisp and clear audio however you can connect to your own or even a speaker to really get things going, you can also use the built in speaker on the device but connecting it to a speaker is better but then again if you only want low volume or personal use the speaker is fine you can also use this to record audio on the go which is handy for taking notes they can be done in wav or MP3 files. You can also watch stored movies on this which is kinda cool so if you have any ensure to transfer to your SD card.

When it comes to sound it does a great job but I would also check source of music as many of my songs are on an SD card years old and I think partially corrupted when I added new music it sounded great with my own choice of headphones and earbuds this is not to knoch the earbuds that came with the device which are find for anyone not to hooked up on fantastic audio and the price you pay overall here you should not expect insane quality audio but with decent earbuds you will be fine and it is nice that they gave you earbuds in the first place as they are a dying item now with phones and other products normally shipped with such.

For the price you pay though today you are getting a sound robust quality product with a color screen and many other options not seen on MP3 players and good sound and also a distraction from your mobile phone with the ability to connect to external speakers.

Key Features of the Majority MP3 Pro:

  • 5.0 Bluetooth Connectivity
  • 4hr Charging Time
  • 65GB Internal Storage
  • Compatible with SD cards up to 128GB
  • Earphones included
  • Integrated Speaker
  • Dimensions: 4.2cm x 6.6cm x 1.8cm

Boom Launch Videobar Audio Expansion Combo Kit

Fast-growing video conferencing manufacturer, Boom Collaboration, has launched a new version of its innovative HALO videobar that features expandable audio.

The Boom HALO Business Edition includes a high performance videobar plus an additional microphone/speaker to dramatically increase the audio range in larger rooms.

Launched earlier this year, the standard HALO delivers crystal-clear audio and 4K video with enhanced AI facial framing and speaker tracking. Multiple additional microphones/speakers can be daisy-chained too.

Now to accelerate further demand the company has created a dedicated dual combo package, for added value and convenience.

Co-Founder Fredrik Hörnkvist says the Business Edition overcomes traditional acoustic limitations of standard videobars. It is ideally suited to a wide range of use cases where extra audio reach is required, such as flexible rooms, dedicated tasks and growing teams.

Game-Changer

“Our flagship Boom HALO videobar already features a 4K UHD camera, six beamforming mics and high fidelity speakers for a seamless collaboration experience,” he emphasised. “But as videobars are generally installed at the front of room there’s often limited flexibility for additional audio pick-up especially on a large scale.

“With the additional speaker/microphone, audio can easily be extended by a further three metres for each device. This is useful in many ways such as for legal depositions which are already proving very popular, or a quietly-spoken CEO who often sits at the far end of a boardroom and struggles to be heard. It’s a bit of a game-changer in terms of total audio capacity.”

Available in white and black colours from UK distributor Westcoast, the HALO boasts many advanced features such as intelligent noise reduction.

Fellow founder Holli Hulett explained: “There’s little doubt the popularity of videobars will continue to grow this year and the Boom HALO Business Edition will add more fuel to the fire.

“With 120° wide angle field of view, 10x zoom and smart mic array, the HALO detects both participants and speakers in real time locking in on attendees. Six array MEMS microphones and a superior 4K lens with an eight megapixel CMOS sensor combine to create a superior solution for a variety of spaces. The additional speaker enables much greater audio pick-up for a truly exceptional and optimised meeting experience across a wider range of meeting spaces.”

Lossless Audio

She highlighted the videobar’s in-built audio quality. “High-fidelity audio with a 48kHz sampling rate and dual 10W speakers provide lossless audio and full spectrum sound for meeting participants. Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Automatic Gain Control further enhance the meeting experience and work to ensure full duplex quality at a distance of six metres.”

Bluetooth 5.0 allows for easy pairing with mobile phones and other devices. A user-friendly remote control is included too whilst an automatic privacy shutter is combined with the ability to disengage wireless connectivity for added security.

Hörnkvist concluded: “Our whole ethos is to create better meetings. Simply. The Boom HALO Business Edition is another example of this continual vision.”
