More than half of organisations in Ireland now using AI

New research from KPMG reveals the extent to which artificial intelligence (AI) is being deployed in Irish organisations’ finance operations – with compelling levels of ROI and a wide range of benefits including better data and decisions, lower costs, and greater ability to predict trends. Over half of organisations in Ireland (54 percent) are now using AI across their finance function, lower than 71 percent seen globally. Meanwhile, over two-thirds (66 percent) are implementing some level of workflow automation in financial reporting. The report, titled “AI in finance”, covers 2,900 organisations across 23 countries and includes 100 responses from Ireland.

Commenting on the research findings, Keith Stafford, IT Audit Partner at KPMG in Ireland, said, “Our research confirms AI is continuing to have a profound effect on how companies operate, including their systems, processes, controls, and governance over all areas of the finance function, and this is set to accelerate in the next few years. AI will transform not only the technical aspects of financial operations but also fundamentally reshape strategic decision-making and risk management practices. The increasing adoption of AI reflects its critical role in driving efficiency, accuracy, and predictive capabilities, which are essential for staying competitive in an ever-evolving marketplace.

The integration of AI in financial services is not just a trend but a transformative shift. Our research highlights the significant strides companies are making in AI adoption, as well as the challenges they face. It is essential for organisations to invest in talent development and establish robust guidelines to harness the full potential of AI responsibly.”

AI Adoption Trends

The research indicates that AI adoption is most prevalent in Treasury Management, followed closely by Financial Planning, Accounting, Tax, and Operations and Risk Management. This trend underscores the growing adaptation of AI to streamline and enhance financial processes. The research also finds two-thirds (66 percent) of companies have implemented some level of automation in their financial reporting workflows. Additionally, 25 percent of respondents plan to adopt automation in the near future. This shift towards automation reflects the industry’s commitment to improving efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

The top benefits of AI identified in the research include:

  • Enabling better data-driven decisions (38 percent)
  • Lowering operational costs (37 percent)
  • Enhancing the ability to predict trends (36 percent)

ROI of AI Initiatives and Investment

Almost half (49 percent) of those surveyed reported that the return on investment (ROI) of their AI initiatives is meeting or exceeding expectations, compared to 65 percent globally. This highlights the tangible benefits that AI brings to the financial services sector, encouraging further investment and innovation. AI is also now reported to account for nearly 15 percent of the IT budget for businesses, with projections indicating that this figure is set to double within the next three years.

Challenges and Guidelines

Despite the promising trends, the research highlights limited AI skills and talent as the biggest barrier to AI adoption. Companies are facing challenges in finding and retaining skilled professionals who can effectively implement and manage AI technologies. Nearly half (45 percent) of the surveyed companies have established AI control guidelines to ensure the responsible use of AI. These guidelines are crucial in maintaining ethical standards and mitigating risks associated with AI deployment.

Finally, the study also reveals that companies are increasingly looking to auditors in particular to provide more communication and insights about AI. This demand for transparency and guidance emphasises the need for auditors to stay informed and proactive in their approach to AI-related matters.

Dreame Technology H14 Pro Wet and Dry Vacuum review

The Dreame H14 Pro Wet and Dry Vacuum is a one stop shop for keeping your floors clean in the home or office and is now on offer with their Christmas sale now on.

Over the last few weeks I have been testing this out at home and this is not only for use at home but in the office if you have flooring and it does a superb job and brings them up like new.

With a companion app you have more control too allowing you to to select different modes and speeds as you will see in the video review below. There is also a digital display on top of the unit giving you information and works parallel with the app. You can remotely self clean and dry and change speeds with the app.

The unit itself is well built and simple to use and set up it is mainly plastic keeping the overall weight down. The handle has several controls making life easy and the tanks are easy to remove and put back on which is great the same for the roller too, there is a cool light on the roller which can be turned off but it is best to have it on as it picks up the dirt you cant see whilst hoovering the floor.

A great feature about this is the lie flat option which means you can get underneath furniture like presses and tables and chairs and saves you having to move them around which is annoying.

There is 5 cleaning modes here so you are not short of choice and there is a suction mode this also gets right to the edge of your baseboards and walls which many conventional offerings can’t do.

Running time may vary however this will depend on how you use it and overall battery life for me being around 35- 40 minutes is enough to get all my floors done.

All round the Dreame H14 pro brings some new innovation and features if you are invested in such products and want something new and offers allows you to get the job done efficiently and saving you time with the features on board.

The App

Features

All-Arounder for an Unparalleled Cleaning Performance

The H14 Pro is the perfect solution for cleaning large areas. Thanks to its improved battery capacity (6 x 5,000 mAh), it has an impressive running time of 40 minutes, which allows large living spaces of up to 300m² to be cleaned without interruptions. The H14 Pro also comes with a generous 880ml water tank.

With its 180-degree flat design, the H14 Pro offers enhanced manoeuvrability, allowing easy cleaning under furniture and around tight corners. This stick vacuum can compress to a height of 14cm (8.5cm with the brush head) and boasts an impressive suction power of 18,000Pa, effortlessly removing even large particles.

The innovative Liquid Separation Motor™ ensures powerful cleaning, even when the vacuum is parallel to the floor, and prevents the backflow of used water for smooth operations during intensive cleaning sessions. Powered by a high-speed motor (14,000 RPM), the brush rotates an incredible 520 times per minute during wet vacuuming. This speed ensures that the floor is thoroughly cleaned and streak-free.

In addition, its dual edge cleaning function means the brush head penetrates deep into corners and along the baseboard, combating dirt and deposits. This design can be used to clean the edges of the walls and corners to give hard floors a spectacular shine.

Effortless and Effective Cleaning with the H14 Pro

The H14 Pro utilises 60°C hot water to remove stubborn liquids in as little as five minutes. The dual-rotating brush prevents hair tangles and keeps the brush cover clean, which after washing, uses 60°C hot air to dry the brush, minimising the chance of odours and bacteria.

There are two drying modes that users can choose between. In super-speed mode, the brush dries within five minutes and is then ready for use again. Alternatively, there is a quiet mode for users who prefer a more relaxing atmosphere while cleaning, drying the brush at lowered decibel levels within an hour.

Unlock a World of Personalised Control

Users can customise their cleaning via the Dreamehome app in which they can adjust the output of the cleaning solution, the suction power, and the water flow according to their preferences. Users will also be notified about upcoming maintenance. Additionally, the H14 Pro has an LED display, voice control and LED lighting in the brush head to make dust and dirt more visible.

Prices and Availability

The H14 Pro is now available via the Dreame UK Store and Amazon

Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) have announced an expanded long-term partnership in the UK and Ireland, broadening their collaboration to bring the very best of Warner Bros. Discovery television and movies to Sky and NOW customers in the UK and Ireland.
Building on the award-winning WBD content available today on Sky Cinema and the existing franchises on Sky Atlantic, the new agreement will now include the ad-supported version of Max, WBD’s premium streaming service bundled for Sky customers at no extra cost, when it launches in the UK and Ireland in early 2026. Sky customers will continue to find shows such as House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us, and any new series aired before the end of 2025, on Sky Atlantic and through Sky’s On Demand service.
Together with Max, this agreement ensures Sky customers will enjoy an even broader range of WBD content, including HBO and Max Originals, and other series that will be exclusive to Max, including forthcoming series of Harry Potter. This content will be available alongside Sky’s unrivalled lineup of Sky Originals, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Netflix, Universal, Sony, Paramount and much more.
In addition, NOW UK and Ireland Entertainment members will also receive bundled access to the ad-supported version of Max, seamlessly integrated into the NOW experience alongside other premium content.
This agreement follows news that 2024 was the best performing year for Sky Originals drama, including the recording-breaking The Day of the Jackal, Sweetpea and The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
Sky has recently secured long-term renewals of most major sports rights to near the end of the decade, and Sky customers can also now enjoy an unrivalled range and volume of sport, thanks to recent rights renewals. This offers Sky Sports customers an expanded lineup of sport including, the Premier League, EFL, women’s football, Formula 1, cricket, golf, rugby league, tennis, and more. With Sky Sports+ introduced earlier this year, customers receive 50% more sport at no extra cost.
Dana Strong, Sky Group CEO, commented: “This deal builds on our remarkable achievements this year. We have secured most major sports rights through to the end of the decade, extended our content partnerships, and progressed our transition from satellite to IP, with 9 out 10 new customers choosing Sky Glass or Sky Stream. This partnership solidifies Sky as the ultimate TV destination and the preferred partner of choice for streamers, rights holders and content creators alike.”
Strong added: “This new partnership provides an expanded range of content for our customers to enjoy Warner Bros. Discovery’s popular storytelling through Max. The combination of content from our partners, alongside our slate of Sky Originals, and Sky’s leading aggregation of the UK and Ireland’s best content apps gives us an unrivalled entertainment proposition and an exceptional line-up of the world’s best shows.”
Andrew Georgiou, President & Managing Director for WBD UK & Ireland and WBD Sports Europe said: “Today’s announcement is hugely exciting for everyone who loves award-winning scripted entertainment and movies. Arriving in early 2026, the market-wide launch of Max in the U.K & Ireland is a significant step in its global roll-out, and will be the place where audiences find incredible new shows, including the future Harry Potter series from HBO.
“Our new agreement will continue Warner Bros. Discovery’s long-standing collaboration with Sky and deepen our relationship across distribution and now the bundling of Max. This will enable Max immediately at launch to be available to millions of passionate video subscribers, and separately be available to the more than 20 million other broadband households in the territories through Max direct to consumer and other partnerships.”
The deal also sees Turner Kids content on channels including Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and Boomerang remaining part of Sky and NOW’s comprehensive offering for years to come. Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery already enjoy a long-term carriage agreement for a wide range of WBD’s other television channels.

Google ‘Year in Search’ results reveal what Ireland searched for in 2024

As 2024 comes to a close, Google’s Year in Search results give us a snapshot of what caught the country’s attention over the past year and had people turning to Google for answers.

In a year of elections both at home and abroad it’s no surprise that searches related to elections and referendums feature strongly throughout the results. The US Election was the second most searched term overall and Donald Trump was the tenth. US presidential candidates featured in the most searched people list, with Donald Trump in second position, Kamala Harris in seventh followed by Joe Biden in eighth. Closer to home ‘How to register to vote’ was the most searched ‘How To’ question and ‘What is the referendum about’ featured on the ‘What is’ list.

2024 was also a big year for sport, the Euros 2024 topped the overall search list and the Olympics was the fifth most Googled search. The Olympics also had an impact on the most searched people list, in a record year for the Irish Team two of Ireland’s medalists featured; boxing Olympic gold medalist Kellie Harrington is the third most searched person and swimming gold medalist Daniel Wiffen was the fourth most searched person. Repechage may not be a word many had heard of before 2024 but thanks to the Olympics many people turned to Google to find out what it meant, it was the second most searched term on the meanings list.

The Top 10 Most Googled recipe list gives us a glimpse into what Ireland has been trying to create in the kitchen this year. The viral Marry Me Chicken recipe topped the list, with Rice Krispie Square, Tanghulu and Patatas Bravas also featuring. Two cocktails featured in the recipe list, the Pornstar Martini and the Hugo Spritz.

Google Search is often the place people turn to when they need help deciding what to watch on TV or in the cinema. Baby Reindeer was the most searched TV programme, followed by Fool Me Once and The Perfect Couple. In the cinema it was the year of the sequel as Inside Out 2, Dune 2 and Gladiator 2 all featured on the movies list.

Every day, millions of people turn to Google to ask questions, look for help or find the meaning of words. Topping the most searched meanings list in 2024 is a word that is very reserved, very quiet- its Demure, the word that went viral thanks to a TikTok by lifestyle and beauty influencer Jools Lebron. ‘What is PMDD?’ topped the ‘What is’ list and other trending questions asked by the Irish public were ‘What is cloud seeding?’ and ‘What is brat summer?’.

Search can help you find a world of information – and the way people use Search can be a window into the world. Take a closer look at this year’s trending lists at Google.com/2024

Nokia launches world’s first 5G 360° camera for industrial use
