A new survey by Codex Office Solutions, Ireland’s leading B2B office supplies and solutions provider, reveals the growing challenge of workplace distractions in the era of hybrid working. The study, conducted among 500 Irish office workers, sheds light on how interruptions impact productivity and what employees are doing to maintain focus.
The Codex survey highlights the main culprits of workplace distractions:
Receiving phone calls topped the list, distracting 42% of office workers
Background noise (41%) and colleague interruptions (40%) also cause major work disruption
Receiving emails (28%) and social media notifications (27%) round out the key disruptors
While the majority (67%) of hybrid workers still experience the most distractions in the shared workplace, they also face unique challenges when working remotely. Household chores such as laundry and cleaning topped the polls as the biggest disruptor for 41% of hybrid workers, followed by looking after children or pets (30%), and cooking or preparing meals (30%).
62% of workers admit to spending more than 15 minutes every day on non-work-related activities during office hours. Nearly half (46%) of respondents report that workplace distractions at least slightly affect their productivity, while 38% say they moderately or significantly impact their workflow.
Personal technology such as smartphones can also be problematic for workers’ productivity, with 74% admitting to being distracted by devices at least once in the working day: 1 in 5 lose focus at least once every hour while 1 in 10 admit to being distracted by personal technology multiple times an hour.
To combat distractions, Irish workers are turning to various strategies:
Taking regular breaks (57%) and changing work environments (19%) help many regain focus
Noise-cancelling headphones (20%) and time management apps (12%) are popular anti-disruption tools
Setting boundaries with colleagues (34%) and using ‘Do not disturb’ settings (41%) on personal technology are also effective measures
Codex’s findings highlight the importance of dedicated spaces for focus in Irish offices. 56% of Irish workers report a lack of access to quiet spaces, with 28% saying that a quiet space would boost their workplace productivity.

HP Inc. today issued its latest Threat Insights Report, highlighting how threat actors are using malware kits and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to improve the efficiency of their attacks. Such tools are reducing the time and skill needed to create attack components, enabling attackers to focus onexperimenting with techniques to bypass detection and trick victims into infecting their endpoints, such asembedding malicious code inside images.
The report provides an analysis of real-world cyberattacks, helping organisations to keep up with the latest techniques cybercriminals are using to evade detection and breach PCs in the fast-changing cybercrime landscape. Based on data from millions of endpoints running HP Wolf Security, notable campaigns identified by HP threat researchers include:
Malware-by-numbers kits: HP threat researchers observed large campaigns spreading VIP Keylogger and 0bj3ctivityStealer malware that leverage the same techniques and loaders, suggesting the use of malware kits to deliver different payloads. In both campaigns, attackers hid the same malicious code in images on file hosting websites like archive.org, as well as using the same loader to install the final payload. Such techniques help attackers circumvent detection, as image files appear benign when downloaded from well-known websites, bypassing network security like web proxies that rely on reputation.
GenAI helping to create malicious HTML documents: Researchers also identified an XWorm remote access trojan (RAT) campaign initiated by HTML smuggling, which contained malicious code that downloads and runs the malware. Notably, similar to an AsyncRAT campaign analysed in the previous quarter, the loader bore hallmarks that indicate that it may have been written with the help of GenAI, for example, including a line-by-line description and the design of the HTML page.
Gaming cheaters never prosper: Attackers are compromising video game cheat tools and modification repositories hosted on GitHub, adding executable files containing Lumma Stealer malware. This infostealer scrapes victims’ passwords, crypto wallets, and browser information. Users frequently deactivate security toolsto download and use cheats, putting them at greater risk of infection without isolation technology in place.
Alex Holland, Principal Threat Researcher in the HP Security Lab, comments:
“The campaigns analyzed provide further evidence of the commodification of cybercrime. As malware-by-numbers kits are more freely available, affordable, and easy to use, even novices with limited skills and knowledge can put together an effective infection chain. Throw GenAI into the mix to write the scripts, and the barriers to entry get even lower. This allows groups to concentrate on tricking their targets and picking the best payload for the job – for instance by targeting gamers with malicious cheat repositories.”
By isolating threats that have evaded detection tools on PCs – but still allowing malware to detonate safely – HP Wolf security has specific insight into the latest techniques used by cybercriminals. To date, HP Wolf Security customers have clicked on over 65 billion email attachments, web pages, and downloaded files with no reported breaches.
The report, which examines data from calendar Q3 2024, details how cybercriminals continue to diversify attack methods to bypass security tools that rely on detection, such as:
At least 11% of email threats identified by HP Sure Click bypassed one or more email gateway scanners.
Executables were the most popular malware delivery type (40%), followed by archive files (34%).
There was a notable rise in .lzh files, which made up 11% of archive files analysed – with most malicious .lzh archive files targeting Japanese-speaking users.

“Cybercriminals are rapidly increasing the variety, volume, and velocity of their attacks. If a malicious Excel document is blocked, an archive file in the next attack may slip through the net. Instead of trying to detect rapidly shifting infection methods, organisations should focus on reducing their attack surface. This means isolating and containing risky activities such as opening email attachments, clicking on links, and browser downloads to reduce the chances of a breach.”

The TCS Future-Ready eMobility Study 2025, released at the Detroit Auto Show reveals new insights in the EV ecosystem
A new study by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, reveals that more than 6 out of 10 (64%) consumers are likely or very likely to consider an electric vehicle (EV) for their next purchase. The TCS Future-Ready eMobility Study 2025, a comprehensive report on how EVs are shaping the future of sustainable mobility, also highlights that while 60% of consumers said charging infrastructure was a major challenge, 56% were ready to pay up to $40K for an EV.
This study surveyed over 1,300 anonymous respondents across North America (USA, Canada), United Kingdom & Ireland, Continental Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland) and APAC (China, India, Japan, ANZ). The respondents for the survey included transport manufacturers, charging infrastructure players, fleet adopters, consumers and EV adoption influencers.
Sustainability and lower operational costs were key factors driving EV adoption, according to the study. While consumers and influencers highlighted a clear motivation for EV adoption as ‘environmental sustainability’, the environmental benefits did not match the expectations of many EV influencers. Nearly 48% EV influencers said EVs increase the overall carbon output just as much as they reduce it, with 10% even saying EV adoption is negatively impacting the environment. Commercial fleets maintain a positive outlook towards electric mobility, with a sizable percentage—53%—pointing to reducing operational costs as a primary motivation. Fleet adopters were willing to pay a premium for EVs than for traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Despite the growing interest in EVs among consumers, significant challenges remain, particularly in the areas of charging infrastructure and technological advancements. While 74% of EV manufacturers said the lack of appropriate charging infrastructure remains the biggest obstacle limiting growth in the EV market, 55% have already started investing in innovation for battery technology advancements. Nearly 78% are making investments to reduce vehicle costs to cater to growing demand for EVs.
